Initially I thought it was the one I ordered, the staff were kind enough to replace it with a margarita but that one was bad too. The sauce is definitely off. It's really bland. I couldn't get through more than a slice or two, it's so expensive I really tried to like it too. Oh, Mary! Definitely get the signature dish at Mary's Bistro: the crispy chicken tenders. It's a lotta beige on one plate -- breaded chicken tenders, fries and coleslaw -- but sometimes you need to embrace a monochromatic meal every now and then. The chicken tenders come with a creamy mustard sauce (also beige) that is delicious all by itself. The chicken fried chicken is also great, and comes with a bacon-corn gravy smothered on top. The chicken fried chicken is served with mashed potatoes and green beans. It's a comforting dish. They have a small kids menu at Mary's: a cheeseburger, chicken nuggets, grilled cheese and mac & cheese. All of the kids entrees come with fries, except the mac & cheese. One of my children ordered the kids' mac & cheese, and I'm happy to say that the mac & cheese is house-made, and not Kraft mac & cheese. I like when a restaurant makes an effort to make their own mac & cheese for kids! The location is great -- right on the beach, with patio seating. We visited during the fall, on a chilly day, so we sat inside, but we still had a nice view of the beach. After we ate, we were steps away from the sand. I visit the island every summer and I usually frequent this place twice while visiting. This summer will be my last time to visit though. For over $30, I had baked chicken. In the past, it's been served with nice seasonings, mashed potatoes and a vegetable. Now, it comes with this awful sauce on it on a plate of french fries that were all soaked with the sauce. It was a disgusting meal that I couldn't get through. The waitress didn't ask how anything was. There was no manager that came around to ask either. For a family of five, I spent over $200 here. There are better options on the island and I will frequent those places from now on. read more

It started off great then slowly went downhill. We were seated immediately by the window which gave us a wonderful view of the deck and waters. The server was really nice and took our order but we didn't see her again until later when we were done with the food. No checking in so we weren't able to ask for things like extra sauce or another set of silverware. In terms of food everything was a little off. The mushroom pizza was too lemon forward. Maybe they should use truffle oil instead of lemon. The Nashville chicken sandwich was dry and ended up being tough/overly fried. For the entrees we had to pay $5 to add fries to our sandwiches, which I think becomes overpriced for what you get. The truffle fries didn't really have any truffle flavor. The only saving grace was the grilled cheese sandwich with caramelized onions. Overall, the "bistro" didn't really live up to the name. It has a great pub house feel. My girlfriends said the drinks were as fantastic as the ambiance. I had the avocado toast. The bread was too tough so couldn't cut thru it w/a steak knife and definitely not w/abutter knife. It's the type that shoots across the table. The topping itself was quite a bit of onion. The avocado mash itself was okay. It could have used some additional vinaigrette. Let's talk about the homemade potato chips. Not sure when they were made but I would've taken some Cape Cod deep russets, they would've been better. We had an enjoyable meal here yesterday Even though the prices are a bit high. But considering that this is a tourist destination and that they are cooking real, actual food here, it's understandable. Max J was our server and he was friendly and helpful and checked in on us often. We ate outside on the back deck and that was lovely as well and the food shined. I got the soba noodles with edamame, avocado and green onion. I added grilled chicken and it was just so very good. You know, when you are on vacation and eat too much fudge and ice cream, so it was so great to have a meal cooked from scratch. The avocados were perfectly ripe, the chicken was well seasoned and cooked well. The soba noodles werent quite as hearty as other I've had but still great. We also ordered a bbq chicken pizza (on a gluten free crust-we were told that they are the only place on the island with that option), a mushroom pizza (which I tried And didn't care for the texture of the mushrooms but my sister loved it. I made the mistake of getting the baked chicken. It is ruined by this nasty sauce they put on it. Tourist trap! Food is bland and expensive. First off I don't mind paying more for good food. But this chicken salad was chicken and mayonnaise with a few cranberries sprinkled on it. It only cost $32 for a sandwich with fries and side salad. Kids ordered chicken tenders and they were as the should've been. Hard to mess that up. Beer is cold but not served in cold glass. They have a great bar and love their screens that shows you what's on tap and how much is left of a product. Staff are friendly and attentive and quick to service you at the bar. Food wise there are great options. From appetizers, pizza, and entrees. This visit we went with the chicken tenders which comes with coleslaw and fries. I went with the half order and my husband got the full. Great crunchy fries and the batter on the chicken was delicious. The coleslaw is more vinegar based. Great portions and we left feeling full. Conveniently located near the pier by the ferry station. Great outdoor patio to wait for your ride while sipping drinks. We enjoyed everything. The "fish and chips" had a nice whitefish dipped in beer batter, and I had the house sald in lieu of fries. The pizza is more like a flatbread by crisp and tasty. They also have a children's menu. You pay a bit more for the fare in this touristy zone. I wish the portions were a bit larger. We had one filet of fish per order. It was such a treat actually dining in a restaurant. Mary's Bistro has a lot going for it: the patio has a nice view of the water. They allow pets. There's a very good selection of beers on tap, and a number of really good options on the menu. It's just a damn shame that everything we got was served lukewarm. The pizza was excellent, with a nice cornmeal coating under the crust that I really love. And, I like cold pizza as much as the next guy, but it's not my choice when I go out to eat. The fries have skin on, which is also terrific, and are nicely salted. But, again, it was lukewarm. And, the burgers are nice and beefy, and again they were served lukewarm. If the prices weren't so steep, this wouldn't be as much of an issue. But, I don't think it's unreasonable to except my food to be warm. The curious thing is that the service was pretty good. We got our food in a reasonable amount of time. I do want to come back here again, since food was tasty. But, I really need to do something about the time from the being done to the food hitting the table. read more

We had our dog with us and they brought a water bowl for her right away. Service overall was very friendly and quick. The hubby had the pulled pork grilled cheese and I had the rueban. Both solid and hit the spot after a long bike ride. Since we're on our first trip since shelter in place, I appreciated that all the servers and everyone who worked there was wearing masks and all the tables were well spaced. My husband and I visit the Island annually for my October birthday. On numerous occasions we've stopped by Mary's Bistro Draught House for an evening drink. We have had a few weird interactions over the last couple years at MBDH, but we often get the same bartender. I do not recall his name, but recognize his face. We walked in at 10:18 pm and seated ourselves at the bar. My husband asked what time they close and the bartender said "It depends, probably around 11 pm tonight". My husband replied with "I bet you cannot wait for the night to end, so you can get a drink yourself and relax". The bartender replied "I don't drink" sarcastically and walked away. Which was weird and off putting. Maybe he recently quit drinking, because I know for a fact we watched him take shots with other island employees last October. We shook it off and ordered our drink. My husband and I continued to talk amongst ourselves and enjoy our drink. The entire time, the group at the end of the bar attempted to make us feel uncomfortable. It was quite obvious that they did not want customers hanging around. They were clearly drinking and partying together with other island workers. At this point we finished our drinks and left the payment on the bar counter. The bartender was preoccupied with the local group at the end of the bar. Not only did this place go downhill in the service department but the drink prices are astronomical compared to anywhere else. A 10oz. pour of my favorite cider was $9. We get a 20oz pour of the same cider for $7.50 anywhere else. They say buy local and support local but MBDH takes that to a whole new level. This was a great spot with tons of beer on draft! It was pretty big. We came in and sat at the bar and were immediately greeted by a friendly bartender. They had a ton of beer on tap. We've always loved our servers and their bartenders are ADORABLE. - I see some complaints about staff from yesterday. I was in the pub and I can honestly say that the staff was wonderful, personable and hilarious. Some customers came in with bad attitudes and the "holier than thou" vibe. It's a real issue on the island. I can honestly say that anyone who complains about the staff here are probably snobs. read more
