enjoyed the Whitefish Fingers so much, we ordered a second order! Hubby and I split a Bison burger and the house cut french fries, both were delicious. All dining is on the deck, offering everyone a view of the waterfront. Our wait time for table was approx. 45 minutes so we took the opportunity to walk across the street to the park/marina area to enjoy the beautiful lakeshore views. Service was great. Today was our third time visiting the Gangplank. Every time we've driven north and south so far! The whitefish fingers are excellent, the whitefish sandwich is also great, and the Hot Lips Houlihan is like no other sandwich we have ever had, anywhere! Delicious. Today we tried the ghost pepper cheese curds, and had to get a second order they were so tasty!! If ever there were a reason to go off your diet, do it at the Gangplank. It's worth it! The place is small and breezy, the view is nice, and the service has been super every time. Definitely recommend if you're in the area. read more

The deck dining room is really fun and the service was great. We went at lunchtime and it was super busy. It was really nice that you can get a drink while you wait. I enjoyed my whitefish fingers and fries but they were ok. Because it was so busy, I think they sat for bit so the fish was not crispy. The dipping sauce for the fish was really good. When i first walked up i was greated quickly and with a smile which set a great mood and feeling it was goig. To be a good time which it ended up as....The food was delicious and made right the fries are FRESH cut, and the bison burger was amazing and for the appetizer i went with the cheese curds and house made ranch absolutely delicious! The mains here are pretty decent. I got the Greek pita and was very impressed with the flavors, the tzatziki, the freshness of the onion and tomato. It kinda falls apart after this. There are three side choices for most mains: chips and salsa, fries or cottage cheese. None are really healthy or different from what anyone else is doing with the exception of cottage cheese, which also is a no for me. The fries were a little too salty and on the limp side. The wait time for a Saturday night is about an hour which we saw some people leave from that but there's only 12 tables. The wait staff did not really having it together so we only really got our order in and the check and didn't get a second round of drinks. Overall 3/5 would recommend to friend for the views and the mains. read more

First, the hostess are extremely welcoming which gives you the feel that you "came to the right place". The service was amazing...the servers have personality and make sure "all is well". Smaller sized restaurant that is covered outdoor seating which is amazing. The quality of food is outstanding...we tried the shrimp tacos and Hot Lips Houlihan sandwich...both were great! It's was so good, we went there the next day for a burger (they are huge) and Cuban. Again, neither were a disappointment and service was great!! My family & I went out for a drive and we saw the restaurant. It was very busy with a smaller dining area. We sat down to eat after a small wait and the food was great! Let me start by saying that Jen was our server and she was AWESOME. Very personable and attentive. We were with a group of 6, and were excited to try this place after driving by several times during the weekend. The setup is nice with all tables on a patio that has plastic sides for when it gets chilly. We were seated quickly and had our drinks fast. I understand that it's a scratch kitchen, but I don't think it should be close to an hour between ordering and getting our food, which it was. When the food did arrive, some of us were happy and some of us were very much not. We had also noticed a table of 4 near us arrive after we did, order, eat, and leave before we had our food. That was a bit disappointing. They hand cut their fries for each order and they are yummy, but I'd have liked to have more than 8 fries total. I also ordered the whitefish sandwich and it had zero taste. I ended up seasoning it with more salt and pepper and it was tolerable. Our friend loved the vampire burger and ribs. My husband said the whitefish tacos were good but again would have liked more fries. It's pricey - about $60 for 2 entrees, 2 beers, and a cocktail. I'd like to go back and try it again to see if 40 minutes is standard for food delivery and to try something else as their menu featured some good suggestions. The Gangplank was our lunch pit stop on our way up to Camp Seven Lake. There is a small attached parking lot and a public marina across the street. Our friends who were towing their camper had to park a few blocks away but otherwise I think parking is pretty readily available. We only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, but there was a steady line while we were there. The enclosed patio area has a nice view of the water but it started to get a little toasty when the sun came out. The menu is pretty basic with salads, sandwiches, burgers, and dinner entrees. I was hoping to get the whitefish fingers but they were out. We got an order of boneless wings to start while we waited for our friends to park. This ended up being a great idea because after we all ordered food, we waited for over an hour to receive our meals. It was a bit of a bummer but luckily we weren't in a huge hurry. Just know that they are understaffed and things might take a little longer. I ordered the whitefish tacos and my boyfriend got the shrimp po'boy. The tacos were decent but I felt they could have used more flavor on the breading of the fish. The fries were a little lacking as well - just needed more seasoning. The shrimp po'boy was great! I would get that again. Our server was very sweet but super slammed. There is a~3% service charge if you use a credit or debit card. Overall a cute spot for a leisurely lunch! read more

This has been our favorite restaurant to eat at in the entire UP for the last 10 years....and I travel the UP through Marquette regularly. The food is incredible. Always fresh, from scratch ingredients and put together with care. I've never had a bad meal and I've been here at least 30 times over the years. For any people here leaving bad reviews, nothing but a bunch a Karens with nothing better to do or to complain about. They should probably take their opinions down the street to the Mackinaw Grill where most the food is bland, regular, and microwaved. The Gangplank doesn't need you. It's packed all the time because the food is great and the view is just as awesome. If your service wasn't perfect, it's probably because the staff have to hoof it up and down the stairs for hours at a time. How friendly would you be? Is life so hard that you can't just sit back and enjoy the gorgeous view of the Island while you wait for your food? Pro Tip: order extra sides of Dill Mayo to dip your fries in. The atmosphere is unique to any Restaurant we have eaten at in Michigan. Every table has a great view of the Straits of Mackinac. The service is prompt, friendly, conversational, down home and it compliments the menu which is intentionally unique. The owners have brought creativity to the menu in design and flavor. My girlfriend and I recently visited St. Ignace and the island and we both said that The Gangplank has the best food (out of about 12 restaurants)! All their food is insanely delicious and I would be a regular everyday (and about 20lbs heavier lol). It did take, however, 2 hours to get our food from the time we put our name in the hostess booth. We went in knowing the wait would be long but decided to wait it out. We used the first hour to walk around the town but once we were seated we just had to sit for an hour. For me the food was worth it. This place had great ambiance. You can look out over the lake and it's wonderful. It's a patio situation. There is only one toilet for the restaurant. The service was great. The food was mid. I ordered the chicken waffles. It came with a maple syrup that was apparently maple bourbon butter. I am not sure I believe that. The waffles came from plastic if I'm not mistaken. They were good, just not fresh prepared. The chicken was fried and tasty, but note it wasn't a thick piece of chicken. I liked it that way but the waffle to chicken ratio didn't work with the waffles being used like a bun. Now, I'd like a fresh waffle with fried chicken and a gravy. But that's my preference. This was lovely. It was a fair amount of food in this dish. The other plate we ordered was a garlic burger which sounded great in the description. Might be the vampire burger. The problem with this option was the frozen burger. Pass on frozen burgers. What kind of tourist zone food establishment can stay open when they're serving frozen burger pucks? I recommend serving fresh meat, like the chicken said it was. The price was $4 too high for everything (food) on the menu. Drink prices were acceptable, but pushing the upper limit. They charge these rates at restaurants then ask customers to pay their workers wages, absolutely unacceptable. read more

Once inside and seated...We ordered the basket of cheese curds and I got the fish tacos with a side of chips and salsa and BF got the fish sandwich w/fries The wait staff worked their butss off the entire time we were there...no complaints at all. Food - 2.5/5 Mac burger and Bison burger were decent. Fries are quite possibly the worst French fries we've had, they are nothing more than warm potato slices....or underdone fries. Chicken fingers for the kids were awful, hard and barely any chicken. Service - 0/5 after receiving my drink the server didn't come back to check on us for nearly 35 minutes and by that time we were irritated. Food didn't come for nearly an hour for 2 adults/1 child. Server wasn't too bothered, barely touched base with us, blamed the wait on his two larger tables - that isn't an excuse to give us a very poor experience.
