I love me some good popcorn, and Mary's Popcorn Shop absolutely delivers! I'm a butter-flavor purist -- and honestly, the simple flavors are both the easiest and hardest to get right. I've tried popcorn from many different shops, and not all of them nail it... but I'm happy to report this one is a winner! The butter popcorn was fresh, perfectly coated, and full of flavor. I went in with a group and we all picked different varieties to share. The Chicago Mix was a big hit with the kids since they got to enjoy multiple flavors in one bag. The maple syrup pecan was also super unique and delicious -- such a great sweet option! On top of that, the staff were friendly and welcoming. They let us sample flavors so we could choose our favorites, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend if you're a popcorn lover like me! read more

As we were walking by the shop, we was droven in by the delicious looking popcorn that was in their front window. Upon entering the shop were quietly greeted by a friendly young lady, who offered us some samples to help narrow down our selections. They had like 5-6 different flavors of popcorn, which made our decision very difficult. Popped in for some popcorn because - well I love popcorn! There wasn't too many flavours- about 6,which is fine- if they're done right. I tried the Banff mix since I was in Banff, and it was ok- maple popcorn mixed with white cheddar. The popcorn was fine, nothing memorable but not bad either. What turned me off what the service, when you ask them what the Banff mix is because it's not noted anywhere- the cashier didn't know and almost seemed annoyed... They also only take cash- not sure if it was just today (as the sign made it seem) or ongoing. It was 7.00 for a small bag- sad to say Kernals is better. read more

Mary's Popcorn Shop is popular in Canada and you can smell it while walking passed it. Freshly made and flavored popcorn in the store, you can watch the workers work tirelessly throughout the year. I had to give it a try since I love popcorn. I got the Banff mix (white cheddar with classic caramel) and the Chicago style (cheddar cheese with maple syrup pecan). I wanted to try all of the flavors. Both salty and sweet mix. Reminds me of the popcorn in the cans that we used to get during the holidays. Great for travel and they taste somewhat fresh. Worth a visit and try when you're in the area. Service is quick, I went when there was no line and walked out with tons of people in line. It's a small store front only for purchase, not much parking on the Main Street but there are parking garages around. We were walking around Banff as tourists do and discovered Mary's Popcorn Shop and after some generous sampling offered by the nice and welcoming staff, we left with many many bags of popcorn which were devoured by all. Maple, caramel, cheese... delicious intense flavours. Nothing cheap here. read more

Classic caramel - perfect! Sweet. And if you tell them not to close the bag, you get just a liiiiiiitle bit more. Cheddar cheese - pass. It just wasn't cheesy enough in the taste. It was about 3/4 of the way there to great tasting. So I'll give this place a four instead of a three since the caramel was great. Staff was friendly. And the cheese ALMOST got a good rating. If I can give this spot a negative review, I will. The asian lady who charged my elderly folks for popcorn said that the worth of the popcorn bought in canadian dollar should be charged the same ecact amount but in US dollar. Meaning if the popcorn was worth $20 CAD, they also charged my senior folks $20 in USD... plus tax. She even said that it's the store policy. If it is, that's a REALY BAD policy and an EVEN WORSE PRACTICE! Swindling older people who do not know any better now. We will file a complaint with the tourism office here in Banff about this! read more

I could live on popcorn! I ran across this little shop and purchased regular popcorn to take back to my hotel when visiting Banff. Popcorn is awesome and a good selection of flavors to choose from. $10 will get you an elegant sufficiency to share with 2-3 people. They have cotton candy as well and it's a good portion of sugar garbage for about $6. Service can be slow as they're suffering labor shortages along with the rest of economy, but it's polite and professional and they seem intentionally trained. Popcorn smell is a trigger for me. I can be so full I'm ready to pop but as soon as I smell that delicious popcorn smell I crave it so bad and will eat it to the point of discomfort. This is what happened to me when coming across Mary's Popcorn Shop while walking around downtown Banff after a late lunch. I smelled it on the street. I walked by, trying my best to resist, but made it about 5 feet before turning around and getting a small buttery bag to go. I didn't even wait before tearing into that bag. I had no chill. It was so good, so buttery, so delicious. I wish I had gotten a bigger bag (heads up--the smalls are SMALL). I can't speak to any of the other flavors but the plain salt and butter, fresh out of the popper, is bangin'. read more

I am so American, my mindset was "When in Canada try anything Maple flavored!".... and that is exactly what I did. They had numerous flavors, and my favorite flavor has always been Chicago (cheddar caramel mix), but I knew I had to try something that's usually not offered where I am from, and the Maple Pecan flavor caught my eye! I asked which flavor they were making in the window too, and they said Salted Caramel. But I went with Maple Pecan anyways and it was delicious! They have small, medium, large sizes you can choose from. They are kinda expensive so I went with a small and it was plenty! The medium was too pricey and big in my eyes. They really jam it in the bag and for a small bag it's enough to share, depending on what flavour you choose it can be quite rich. I really wanted to like this place. I have had Garret's popcorn (in the US) in the past and had throughly enjoyed that so I was excited when this shop opened up in Banff. Their products are very similar and even their branding is close so I wasn't way off base in thinking they might be similar. I had the Chicago blend popcorn (cheese and Carmel blend, if you are unfamiliar) and I was disappointed. The cheese popcorn In the mix tasted old and the Carmel popcorn was pretty hard. My friend had the white cheddar which also tasted old and for the cost ($9+ for a medium), I expected better. If you are looking for a sweet snack and are in the area, A) find out if the popcorn is fresh of B) hit up Beavertails next door, those things are AMAZING! If the proprietor is to read this review, you should try keeping the popcorn warm, Garret's does that and it's pretty awesome warmed slightly. read more

This is really more so a 2.5 star review but we can't put half stars. The popcorn in the window the person was making looked soooooo good we had to stop and try some. There was a limited amount of flavours, I don't know if this rotates or not but it would be nice to see some other flavours maybe, if I got a flavour I wanted more the review would probably be better. Only flavour I wanted to try was the white cheddar, and I was kinda disappointed in the fact it seemed like old popcorn: soft with very little crunch, like it was left open all night. The flavour was good, but I didn't want to finish the bag I got, smart food would of been a better choice, or maybe I should of just got the freshly popped popcorn. read more

Got 4 small bags of popcorn: cheddar cheese, maple, Chicago style, and chocolate. The girls that worked there stuffed the bags full and they put labels on the bags so we would know which flavor was which. Both were friendly but they were kind of slow. I haven't tried all the flavors but I did have some of the cheddar and man is it good, so I anticipate the rest being good too. The inside is really small and can get cramped but it was clean and smelled good. It's kind of expensive but everywhere I went in Banff was expensive. I would most definitely recommend this place if you're a popcorn fan. read more

Umm yes please. This place offers fresh and delicious popcorn. Initially tried the Chicago Mix but came back for more cheddar to bring back as a gift for the kiddos because it was so damn good. I didn't have a chance to try all the flavours but can attest that the caramel flavour is actually better on day two if your bag can make it that far. read more

Oh man, this place has good popcorn. They only have a few flavours (I think there were 5 when I went in) but all of them are so good. Seriously, just walking by this place on the street & smelling the delicious popcorn smell wafting out the door is enough to make you stop lol. I am always a little bit hesitant in buying "boutique" popcorn. Mostly because I find it tends to be overpriced for what you get. However, the smell of popcorn on the streets of Banff made me decide to try this place. The price wasn't too bad and I ended up getting 4 small bags to share with my family. I got maple pecan, white cheddar, cheddar and Chicago mix. I loved all flavours. I would definitely try it again. The only constructive criticism would be to focus a bit more on customer services as the attendants seem to not really want to be there/enjoy their job and that made for a little bit of an unpleasant experience. read more
