More options, like the traditional combos you expect that the other location lacked, as well as cocktails! For me, the details were more ethnic. Most notably, the hand painted coffee cup that reminds you of Mexico. As always, the food was excellent. We all had leftovers. Unfortunately, my son dropped his fish taco trying to open the door to the parking lot. The ventilation system is so strong, you have to really give it some effort. This resulted in him having to put some muscle into it. In the end, it's too bad Las Mananitas is so far from home now. If I had to guess, it's also not the hit it was back in the hood. However, the menu remains mostly the same, highlighted by their signature Menudo (traditional Mexican soup prepared with tripe), Mexican breakfast (Desayuno), and lunch plates. Dine-in guests are offered complimentary chips and salsa. My first visit here was two weeks ago when it was still called Don Louie. I ordered the taco and two enchiladas lunch combination plate, for $12.99. The taco was prepared with a hard white corn tortilla shell. It was more milder tasting and had a thinner shell. I ordered mine with shredded beef. The meat was well-seasoned and juicy. It was topped with diced tomato, chopped lettuce, and shredded cheese. I chose chicken for my meat filling (as I usually do with enchiladas). I was impressed with how firm the tortilla shells were but soft enough to cut through with a fork. I did wish they were filled with more meat but what I got was tender and juicy. Each enchilada was covered with sauce and generously layered with melted shredded cheese and crema. The enchilada sauce was delicious: savory, tomato-based. I was disappointed that the server did not provide additional salsa options. All lunch and dinner plates are served with beans and rice. They did not serve significant portions, hence the prices. I came back today and noticed changes in the menu, personnel, and quality of service. A sweet lady named Maria is the new owner. They said most of the dishes remain the same with some slight modifications. The prices are a bit higher too. I ordered the quesa birra taco plate for $16, which includes 3 tacos, and served with rice and beans. The stewed beef (birria de res), cooked in a spicy broth, was delicious and tender. Each taco was covered with melted (queso) soaked in the broth and then grilled, making them super soft and giving them that distinct reddish-orange hue. A small cup of the consomme is served alongside for dipping the tacos. It is gooey, chewy, savory goodness. The first time I visited, I felt service had room for improvement. My server was friendly but did not focus on attentive and efficient service. She also did not know what the daily specials were. Service was better today. My server was more engaged and helpful with suggestions. Dine-in guests must inform the server when they want to pay their bill. The server will then meet you at the counter to pay. The interior is dated but clean and spacious and can accommodate large groups. There is a lot of competition regarding downtown Mexican restaurants, but many offer limited seating. The restaurant seating capacity is 55 people (including 10 booth tables that seat 4 people in each one, and 3 center tables with 5 chairs per table). They have a parking lot in the back of the restaurant that can accommodate 8 cars. There are 2 additional spots for handicapped parking.
