Unfortunately, they forgot an item I had ordered for takeout. when I came back to pick it up I looked at the menu again and realized I had been seriously overcharged: I was able to show this to the server based on my receipt and after using a calculator they agreed (and blamed "the computer"). this would fall under the category of "honest mistake" if not for the fact that they were not really willing to fix the bill (I was finally handed $9 from the till (less than what I was overcharged for). So, if you get takeout be prepared to get overcharged, not get what you ordered, have to go back, be forced to go over the receipt with a fine tooth comb, and then deal with someone very reluctant to fix their own mistakes (even when they admit that they were overcharged by a quite a lot). The was most unpleasant experience at a restaurant I have had in a very long while. read more

In the Strip-mall plaza of the La Montanita Co-op: Quiet, neighborhood spot - nice for a really low-key mellow, don't-want-to-cook night out. Favorite dishes: asparagus roll - 4 asparagus tempura rolled maki-style with a big outer covering of sesame seeds yellow tail roll - basic, but very respectable edamame - basic again, but good and not overcooked I'm not into the minced fish or mayo maki rolls, but that doesn't seem to be the norm for most customers - most folks seemed to like theirs. Now, if they added a bit more background music (something odd and quirky.. Japanese techno and Thai pop?) it would instantly make this place a favorite. read more

So terribly disappointing and we'll never order from them again as the ingredients and recipes have changed incomprehensibly. We knew the business was sold but had decent meals on the occasions we'd ordered during the pandemic. It's always a good thing to support local restaurants and we generally choose the same items: Santa Fe rolls are a somewhat common dish here in town at a few local sushi spots and is always our first choice here because I am not a raw fish fan. Apparently this recipe has suddenly been changed by the new owners from green chile tempts within a California roll to something that is now wrapped in raw fish. I was happy to be ordering for delivery and found the Halloween themed menu items funny but apparently shouldn't have allowed myself that distraction because when I opened the boxes I couldn't recognize dinner. I called and was told this is how they make the dish now. Having delivery from a third party is already leaving us left in some gray area of where to complain, but we are also trying to support the local delivery folks as well. This was so expensive and I ended up left eating appetizers that are the same as those available from Sams club and tasted just as one would expect from there: newly ubiquitous coconut shrimp breaded in sugar and egg rolls with nothing healthy about the vegetable filling. We hear so much about restaurants struggling but so is everyone else now. Sending off bad food doesn't win sympathy, and I'd rather have heated up a frozen dinner from the dame discount store instead of paying $90 for a frozen dinner delivery from the same origin by way of a formerly wonderful restaurant. . read more

A loyal customer for years is treated despicably when asked about being charged a different price for same exact fixed priced sushi! Asked to leave! "You enjoy? Then go somewhere else if you don't like what we charge you!" These owners are outrageously rude except when you shut up & they're taking your money for years! Boycott this restaurant! They only want you to shut your mouth & pay whatever they want to charge. AVOID! Never again. We Santa Fe'ans should never tolerate such unprofessional, rude conduct - ever. Take a stand - for all of us. So nice until you politely ask a general question, and then WATCH OUT! Sam turned on me after years and for no legitimate reason. Shame on you! Boycott this establishment & perhaps they'll finally learn that this type of conduct is unacceptable. Who do they think they are? WHERE do they think they are? I have never in my life been treated with such disrespect - anywhere. The fact that I'm a woman must have had something to do with Sam's outrageously disrespectful response, because if I were a man, or was with my boyfriend, I sincerely doubt that he would have responded the way that he did toward me without dire consequences. While at the register still in shock & obligated to pay my tab, I informed the waitress that they will never see me again. She LAUGHED at me! About 4 years prior to this, I was a steady, happy customer - until the sister/co- owner was incredibly rude to me bec I politely mentioned that their green tea ice team tasted old & had clumps of green gook throughout it. She replied, "you complain about everything", & stomped away, when I had never once complained about ANYTHING. She also refused to take it off of my bill. $3? The only words ever uttered by this nasty woman are insults, but she'll gladly take your money while staring at you with her hateful eyes. I took a 4 year break from this place, & decided to try it again, then the above happens with Sam. My mistake for ever giving them another chance. Despicably unprofessional! To all men & women who are contemplating dining at this establishment, do us all a favor, and don't. Owners such as these give Santa Fe a VERY bad reputation. Who would ever speak to a polite customer this way? Especially one that has spent thousands of dollars over the course of years, and I always was polite, friendly, & happy? Do us all a favor, Sam, and go treat nice customers like dirt somewhere else. You appear to be this nice guy, but clearly your utter disdain for your customers finally reared its ugly head. You clearly also have ZERO respect for women in general. You're just plain NASTY, but on the surface seem so nice! It's a facade. Good acting... Support good businesses here, not horrid ones such as this. Or better yet, ask 1 of the owners a question about your bill, or point something out that seems off, if it indeed is, and watch what happens... They'll go NUTS on you, even if you're a steady customer for years. They don't CARE about you or your experience. Just keep your mouth shut and give them money, bec that's really all that they DO care about. Both owners, as well as the server just don't give a darn, but on the surface, they seem to be fooling us all. Don't be fooled & take a stand for ALL of us, otherwise, they'll think that this conduct is quite alright, and continue with their horrid behaviors, just as they have for years. Anywhere else they would've been forced to shut down years ago! The sushi is bland & overpriced, previously frozen, & sometimes slimy. Nothing on their menu has any flavor to it whatsoever. Watch your bill! They'll raise prices for you alone out of nowhere. Yes, bring their attention to this and watch what happens! They'll insult you & throw you out. Never again. As a woman, I am just disgusted by Sam's bullying, rude conduct. Some day, you're going to mouth off to the wrong man or woman, and it won't end well for you. Karma... I am not a sushi person, but I recognize a great presentation. Everything looks beautiful. For someone like me who accompanies sushi folks there are great options. Quiet little restaurant. In fact, dead silent for most of the meal. Good service and very quick prep. The sushi rolls and tempura appetizer were ready in just a few minutes, and the food was good but not exceptionally flavorful. We always bring my mom here for her birthday, she enjoys coming to eat their sushi. One of the plates we got on our table was, well, infested with a baby cockroach. I work in the service industry, so I get that there are critters in these old buildings whether you want them or not, but this was on our plate...so a four star review it is. Based on some of the reviews of this place, I decided to try it. Sushi is very fresh and good value; as good as anywhere in California. Especially liked the special tempura asparagus avocado roll and would order it every time. I had lunch there yesterday with a friend. My salmon bento box was mediocre, but my friend's mackerel bento box was not good. The mackerel was so salty she couldn't eat it. When she told the waiter this a woman came out from the back and started yelling at my friend. I think she was the owner. We just sat there. Later the waiter did take her meal off the check, but the experience was very unpleasant. Also the ladies room had no usable sink. The sink had fallen on the floor and was tilted so if you used it it drained onto the floor. Not sanitary! read more

Tonight was my birthday and of all the Japanese Cuisine places to pick in Santa Fe I chose Masa Sushi....It was very sweet. A quiet, small personal touch with excellent service I am always excited to go there. I have had no problems with staff, service or quality especially with the current owners. My wife and I favor sushi & Japanese restaurants and go to them regularly when we travel. We have Japan as our next vacation destination. But, we live in Santa Fe, and there's not much we can say about the Japanese restaurants here. Of the 7 or 8 we have tried in Santa Fe, this one is the best we've tried so far in terms of food. The sushi servings are generous. But, the prices are MUCH higher than we would expect in Colorado, or Oregon, where we travel regularly. The interior of the place, and location in a strip mall [off the tourist track], is at best mediocre and does not justify the price for a meal, which is high compared to places in Colorado, particularly Boulder, where we frequent the most. As with ALL the sushi restaurants in Santa Fe that we've tried, this one also charges waaay too much for sake. Given that this liquor is mass-produced from an easily grown crop [ie rice], to charge their rates for a 4 oz glass is not worth it. This place, like all the others in Santa Fe, act like Sake is some carefully produced Cabernet, or fine bottle of Scotch. Hey, people just want to relax with a reasonably priced drink and have a nice, healthy meal. In short, we'd say, if you have an impulse for sushi go here, but stick to the bottled beer. read more

I've been going to Masa's ever since it opened in its current location, and I've always left satisfied. The fish is fresh, servings are generous, and, while service can be slow (small staff), they're always courteous and eager to please. I like the cucumber salad, which includes lettuce and seaweed with a light sesame dressing, not the sticky glop that some Japanese restaurants put on their salads. The nigiri are topped with big slices of fish, and the rolls are amply stuffed. They offer interesting and unusual "special" rolls, not just the same old combinations, and recently they've improved their sake and wine options. I'm a fan. read more

Masa Sushi located at 927 W Alameda St Santa Fe, NM 87501 is a great place to dine in and eat, the fish was fresh and the rolls are great too. My son and I were there last night (2/13) celebrating his birthday...., unfortunately the waiter we had was actually waiting outside - he confronted me as though he was going to get physical! Who knows why - my son and me are still trying to figure that out. On the other hand I am still struggling with going to the police to report his aggressiveness - before he hurts a customer. Anyway this was my first time eating at Masa Sushi - this waiter ruined a good meal by his behavior - Next time I am in town I will check to make sure he is not there before I go back. read more

We are locals, live nearby, and have been coming to Masa a couple of times per month for years. It has usually provided a balance between value and quality - not the best sushi available in Santa Fe, but decent for the price. This evening we took several friends for an impromptu celebratory night out and ordered a couple of mid-range bottles of sake for the table. When the check arrived, we noticed that we had been charged for significantly more expensive bottles. When we questioned the charge, we were told that the server had delivered the wrong bottles and we would have to pay for them. I spoke with the owner and he blamed the server before getting hostile and refusing to discuss the issue any further. We paid the bill, and those are the last dollars we will spend in this establishment - not worth arguing with people who don't care about the customer experience. Having spent a lot of time in the service industry, I was absolutely shocked and consider this a horrible response to an easily-solved problem requiring minimal flexibility on the part of the restaurant to keep regular customers happy, and it has forever soured me on this neighborhood hole in the wall. After this incident, I'll never take my family back for a meal, and you shouldn't either - a decade of patronage means nothing in this place. read more
