Needed to change my GMC Yukon's Hybrid Batteries. (4 years ago) I called around and everyone referred me to Masaki's. The only Certified Hybrid/EV Repair Shop. The service was professionally done! They installed 2 brand new Prius batteries in my Yukon and told me that I have a 12 month warranty. I asked so many questions before the service, some of them annoying, but He patiently explained their policy and how tedious the installation was going to be. I was asking if I could buy my own battery for them to install? Of course he said No then I asked for a 5 year warranty. He almost laughed at how ridiculous that was. It's been 4 years now and No issues whatsoever with the Electric Batteries. Looking back in hindsight, I realize how unreasonable that was. Yet He did not get upset but gave me straight answers. I respect that! I highly recommend this shop, parking is a little tight, but their work is top quality! They also check your safety and registration to make sure your vehicle is legal and up to date. I've been taking my personal vehicles to brothers Daryl and Dave Masaki for over 25 years, and they've consistently delivered dependable, high-quality service. Most recently, I brought my car in for an oil and filter change along with a safety check. As always, they went above and beyond--clearly communicating current maintenance needs and giving me a realistic picture of what to expect on my next visit. They also noticed something with my brakes, took the time to adjust them, and checked the wear. Everything turned out fine, but I appreciated the extra attention. They also gave me a heads-up that my tire tread is getting low and I'll need to replace them soon. While they carry a variety of tire brands, they don't stock the specific brand I prefer--but they made it easy by offering to mount, balance, align, and dispose of the old tires if I have them shipped in. Not sure if there even good for pricing as we did a battery change and it was within the warranty year come to find out we have to pay shipping and tariff fees wasn't aware of any of that warranty is warranty. Took my 2001 Toyota Tacoma in because the SRS light came on on the dashboard. When I went to pick up the truck after completion, Darryl explained to me what was the problem and said to bring the truck back in if the same problem pops up and there will be no charge. Well; the light came back on the following day and I made an appointment to have the problem checked again. Darryl made it a point to personally check what the problem was when I brought the truck back to the shop the following week. He called me and explained that the the computer for the air bag system was defective and that the replacement part was quite expensive and to think about it if I wanted to have the job done. He also explained to me that with the defective computer, the passenger side air bag would not deploy in the event of an accident and that if I didn't get the computer replaced, I would still be able to get a safety check. I hardly have any passenger in the truck with me so that was not a great problem but I just couldn't stand the warning light on the dash. So I told Darryl to go ahead and complete the job. Although the replacement part was quite expensive I am a very satisfied customer based on Darryl's superior customer service in explained in detail what the job entailed. I had been a loyal customer here for a year, with friendly service in the past. This week I booked an oil change and timing belt replacement. After dropping my car off, I got a call delivered in a rude tone saying extra repairs were needed, far above the original quote, and my car would need to stay for days. I declined asking to send me the formal quote (did not receive it), approved only the oil change, and asked about rescheduling since I would be picking up the car today. When I arrived, the same man who called me loudly asked another customer "ARE YOU HELENA?" in front of me, served her first, and was extremely rude again to me. They charged me $200 for a "diagnostic", refused to give me the report (I had to write notes by hand), and made no offer to rebook. They also left my car unlocked on the street despite claiming they're "not responsible" for damages to vehicles parked outside. Sadly, this experience has cost them my trust. I was disrespected, uncomfortable, and unsettled by this man's hostile behavior. read more

Hi gang! This place never fails me in getting my eleven year old car squared away! I've used this repair shop for my quarterly or every 3,000-5,000 miles oil changes using synthetic oil because it's an older car and more than 125,000 miles. And never really broke down all these eleven years. I needed to do a wheel alignment, but put it off because of changing my top of engine gasket, alternator, new spark plugs, oil change, and brakes which were getting mushy, but not scraping. However, the biggest thing was a possible electrical or IPU module problem became something minor after extensive diagnostic testing saved me $829.19 IPU module part! Let me tell you that this a big savings and relief. Whew!!! My favorite mechanics are Dennis and Daryl! When entering the office, wear your mask required with hand sanitizer available. They have a plexiglass barrier. Waiting area is outside with chairs spaced far apart. Normally, they work on their jobs, do not interact with customers, not allowed in their three work bay areas, and do not wear masks. Normally, customers don't wait at the shop for their cars. Excellent and HONEST auto repair shop! I have a 2005 Prius and the check engine light came on. Knowing that we've maintained our car, I needed to know what the problem meant and if reasonable to fix due to the age. My family calls it the beach car as it's perfect for them when visiting from the mainland! The engine looks better than the exterior! I've never used Masaki's but heard great things for their knowledge on hybrid cars. So I called and despite how busy they are, they were able to take my car in the following week. I had a friend put a diagnosis meter on the engine so I knew what the fault recorded so it was legitimately needed a professional to quote and repair. After dropping off the vehicle, Daryl called to lmk what the problem was, part cost and labor hours to fix. The part was available and only through Servco Toyota. Daryl was so good about explaining and not just saying what it will cost. They fixed it the same day! He also took a look at the condition of the car and battery due to its age and all is good. Waste of time! I called to see if they would be able to fix our car. Advised them of the issues and someone told the lady on the phone yes you could do it. We set up an appointment, went down and they immediately told us no they aren't able to do it. We drove all the way from west side to town only for you to not even look at it and tell us no. Next time if you aren't even going to look at it say that. Don't be wasting my time taking off of work to go there and get denied. DO NOT GO HERE! I have a 2000 Ford Pick-up which I don't drive every week. It's been a dependable truck for over 4 years. Several months ago starting the truck was not consistent, I had the computer changed, which had to be reprogrammed and purchased a new factory ignition key to no avail. I recalled passing by Masaki years ago when I arrived on island and overheard Darrel explaining to a young lady how to keep her Prius battery healthy, his explanation was simple and complete. Fast forward 8 years, last week (3-25-25) I took my truck to Masaki after several trips to another mechanic. Prior to Masaki servicing my truck, I invested approximately $800.00 plus several subsequent trips at a cost of over $100.00 each trip (not counting the cost of the tow.) Each time the previous mechanic explained he could not duplicate the issue, and billed me. The first week of March I spoke with Darrel from Masaki whose knowledge of my truck's systems was impressive, he placed my truck on his schedule. The third week of March 2025, my truck was at Masaki Auto. Darrel made several attempts to "duplicate" the truck not starting. Several times during the week, Darrel called to update me on his diagnoses or report he could not duplicate the truck not starting, on the 4th day he asked me to bring in the other key, he determined the cause and presented me choices. My confidence driving the truck has been restored. Masaki's bill was fair, not what I was expecting after several days. It's comforting knowing honest, businesses who operated with integrity as a core principal exist. The staff at Masaki from billing to helping exit the lot were all friendly, helpful and patient during my interaction. I was having car troubles and they diagnosed the issue for me and said the car part I needed was discontinued but I could find it online. I went by the part name they gave me and even sent them a link to the over $400 part I was going to buy to make sure I got the right part. They said yes so I bought it, The part came in and I brought it to the shop and it was the wrong part, didn't fit in my car, and was not refundable. So I'm stuck with a $400 car part I can't use or refund. Only after all this trouble did they give me the part number... that they should have given me from the beginning. What a find. They have a lot of pride in their work. Honest and will not sell you something that you don't need. Gave me options that made sense all based upon results. They called me every step of the way. They are the best repair shop that I have ever used. Smiling and welcoming not intimidating like a lot of other shops in town. I've owned my Prius since 2012 and it's been relatively trouble free. However, getting an appointment has been problematic at Mapunapuna because of the size of the service department. Someone suggested Masaki's in Moilili and I went there when I couldn't get an appointment at Servco Mapunapuna. They are certified Prius mechanics and know exactly what do to keep your Prius running. Today I needed a pandemic delay safety check and they had me in and out quickly. I can't say enough about how well they handle all the work they have to do. Call or e-mail them if you have a problem with your car. A bit of any update on Servco Mapunapuna. Since just before the pandemic hit, Servco expanded their service depart to another building, so appointments are no longer a problem. Credit to them for taking care of a long standing problem. My 2014 Prius V needed a new Hybrid Battery so I chose Masaki's Auto Repair to do it because they are certified for hybrid repairs and good reviews on Yelp. They put in a new battery. At just over a year one of the battery cells failed. Returned to Masaki's for another fix. Although it was out of warranty they fixed it at no charge. I was very pleased as the new hybrid battery was quite costly. They are busy so you will need to schedule your repairs. Only downside for me is they are in Moiliili and I live in Mililani. read more

After checking the battery quality, it came to 45%. I am getting 36 Mpg average, just 3 better than before when my battery was bad. I basically paid $2,000 for a bad battery and for them to turn off the check engine light. They solved one part of my problem but not the other. I talked to the owner and he said they cannot do anything unless the check engine light comes on. I wish I did not go in the first place at this point. read more

I had a car that had an air bag light display and they said that they fix those type of problems. All they did was use an SRS scan tool that reads the codes and told me to take it to the dealer. I was charged $210. I believe they should have said all we do is scan no repairs. I was misled am not ever going back!!! Poor business practices. read more

We saw some negative reviews but went there anyway. My daughter's Prius C needed a new hybrid battery (according to message on monitor and codes off my reader). They confirmed the diagnosis and replaced the battery. I thought they would use a refurbished battery but they used a new unit (aftermarket). It came with a 2 year warranty. The car needs to be driven at least 500 miles a month for the warranty to be valid, to ensure that the battery is charged/discharged and kept in good condition. The price was waaay lower than it would have been at Servco. Keep in mind, as far as i know, Masaki is the only certified hybrid repair shop other than the new car dealers. I found another shop that said they could do it but they weren't certified, no thank you. I won't mention the name but they are located in Waipahu. If we ever need service on one of our hybrids outside of warranty, we'll go to Masaki read more

This Kawika Masaki lied about the part I ordered and I paid in front of him and he said come in 2 days we'll have the part , I called 2 days later asking is it there and should I come , he paused , murmured something ... I realized he forgot , I asked if he forgot about placing the order , he replied it's coming Finally it came 4 days later ... it took the guy to fix it for almost a week and a half . The work was to change hose and draing gas tank because there was a water ... literally 1 hour job !!! My other mechanic told . Finally came to the office and this guy presented me the bill $839 , I'm like ok ... and I see this tried to charge for the same part twice , I'm like dude I already paid for that part !!! You trying to scam or what ? He replied, let me speak to the owner ... haha You are the owner I said , aren't you ? I paid 600 Also guys , they charge $180 for labor which is outrageous. Masaki's rep was not at the shop when I arrived for my 7am appointment made in advance by phone. This person who wasn't at the shop and didn't hear the conversation or witness my convo with the owner, Mr. Masaki continues to accuse me of lying but was not at the shop so knows nothing. I made an appointment in advance with Masaki's over the phone for a free inspection. This was offered by AAA of Hawaii on their website and advertised via individual email sent to my personal email address by AAA in July. AAA mistakenly advertised Masaki's as offering a free 40 point inspection. I have reported Masaki's to the BBB and the state Attorney General's office for dishonest business practices. They lure customer's in by promising a free inspection. When you arrive for the appointment they say they don't offer that. The owner, Doug Masaki was aware of this business practice. It is a dishonest business practice. I stand by my review. read more

Being a Prius owner and using this car on Uber, I've had to take my car to a fair share of mechanics and decided to try someone new and stumbled across of Masaki's. Used their google forms to request a service/appt and Dave called about a few hours later. Could already tell over the phone that Dave was extremely polite and friendly. He was able to work on and finish my car the same day it was brought in, thoroughly explained everything and gave a few recommendations that he was honest about and said could wait in the future for. Other shops may have a bit cheaper price but I'd hands down pay a little bit more for the service I was just given! Will for sure be taking my prius (and future ones) here from now on!! read more

I never stated that they should be "cheapest option", yet i feel as though experts in the hybrid business should be knowledgeable in local prices.
