We recently went here for my dads birthday with a large group. Masala Art was very accommodating being that it was Saturday lunch time. We had provided a pre selected menu beforehand so that we wouldn't have to worry about taking orders for the group (~15 of us). The restaurant was a great spot to host my dad's birthday- they didn't rush us at all and created an environment in which everyone was able to talk to each other easily. The food itself- - paneer tikka: delicious! A favorite, although there was fewer paneer pieces and more onion pieces. It was very yummy but I wish it was more balanced. Even a better balance between the onion, pepper, and broccoli would have been better. -samosa chat: great! No notes on this one. Was very yummy. - sag paneer: wasn't my favorite, there wasn't anything wrong with it, I just liked other dishes more - dum aloo: this was great! Very tasty. However, we had to keep asking the staff to bring more out instead of them keeping an eye on what dishes needed refilling. Given that we had provided a headcount beforehand of how many people were coming, it was frustrating that not everyone got to try this dish. There was lots of gravy, but not enough aloo. - Methi malai matar: was very tasty! Overall the food was very good and I'd recommend trying as many dishes of theirs as possible. The service itself was frustrating since we had to keep an eye on what needed refilling and inform the staff, instead of them bringing more food out (we were the only group in the restaurant). But that being said, other restaurants are not nearly as accommodating as masala Art. We had initially asked Chand Palace if they would be able to accommodate us and they had told us that we would only get the table for a set amount of time and we weren't allowed to bring decorations or anything like that. I got the goat vindaloo and my wife got something makni. Her dish was tooo salty! I was surprised that my goat dish had a lot of goat meat! Usually Indian restaurants give more potatoes over the meat. The goat is a must have! I wish it was more spicy. The inside was nice, but empty. Nice service. Will return for the goat!! read more

Went here with my husband last week for dinner. Was pleasantly surprised by the food and service! We ordered malai kofta and asked for the Medium spice level. This taste was so unique since malai kofta we are used to is usually sweet or bland. We loved it. Perfect spice level. We also ordered the garlic chilli paneer (which wasn't in the menu but recommended by the waiter - medium spice) and dahi wada. The food was flavorful, not too spicy, but good overall! Service - I was surprised how friendly all the waiters were (regardless if we were their table or not). We talked to our waiter pretty often and he came to check in on us to make sure we had water and that we liked the food. Ambiance was nice/romantic. We will be coming back! read more

This place has really great food and a great buffet. There lunch buffet has a great selection Of food like hawla, butter chicken, paneer, and even sometimes dosa and South Indian food. The service and ambiance is also fantastic. The white table clothes inside the restaurant provide a really great atmosphere. The service is good (nothing to rave about) but all the employees are kind and friendly. My only thing is when ordering naan in the buffet, it takes a little while so try to time naan orders accordingly. Really recommend if in the area though! read more

My family and I stop here often to take food home to enjoy and are never disappointed. Some go-tos are the samosas and the goat curry. And since we are creatures of habit, that is really all that we tend to order, but we order them alot. We have one or two other spots in the area for good Indian food, and goat curry specifically, but Masala Art is easily the best. The meat isn't fatty, the sauce is delicious and has just the right amount of minimal kick. If you are on the hunt for something tasty, I highly recommend! I have been eating and enjoying Indian food around the world decades ago. Masala Art is one of the best all around Indian restaurants I have ever eaten at. Excellent food, excellent service. I often find myself trying to convince many servers at the indian restaurants that I want true Indian spicy but have been disappointed to find that they give me a mild dish. Well not Masala Art. I cannot wait to go back for some real Vindaloo (Legitimately spicy as it should be). Great Chili chicken, excellent crispy garlic naan and there was no hesitation when I asked for red onion chutney. Love this place! This place never fails us - and we have been here several times. Classic North Indian fare, and almost everything cooked and prepared with care and attention. Plus they will dial the spice level. Obviously, very veg friendly. Here are some of our favorites from a recent high school graduation celebration family dinner: (1) Chilly paneer - homemade cheese cubes cooked with scallions and/or onions and green peppers. Uses red chili sauce as a base. No grading on curve here - it's an A- (2) Yellow daal (lentils) - classic recipe, always perfectly executed. Can't even imagine a meal without this. Top of the class with A+. (3) Ghobi Aloo (cauliflower+potato) sautéed in a curry sauce - quite aromatic. Consistently good. A solid A. (4) Mango lassi (yogurt drink with real mangoes). Can't stop at one (actually you can if you count calories). Makes the cut with an A- (5) Baigan Bhartha - mashed eggplant roasted and smoked. Yummy but the smoky taste not always evident. Commendable performance and a grade of B- (6) The bread should not dominate the taste of entrees. Go for plain Rotis with no butter. Tandoori Rotis here are above average and fully deserving of a B+ (7) If eat Naan (flat bread) you must, go for the garlic naan. Cooked to perfection - A- The place is in a small strip mall - a bit dark but well decorated. Friendly wait staff will certainly brighten the experience tho. Soft Indian vocal music usually in the background; no big screen flat tv with gyrating Bollywood hips here - it's classy enough to have your anniversary dinner. Tips: (1) Watch out for some yelp deals when you checkin - only valid for the lunch buffet tho. (2) They do have dinner buffet on Wednesdays - if you are into sampling. However, you will have to live with the buffet spice level. Trying their buffet is next on our list. read more

What a great meal. Had been meaning to try this place since I started getting coupons in the mail but never got around to it. Was craving Indian food so we finally went. Everything was delicious. We loved our takeout dinner from Masala Art. We started with the flavorful Mulligatawny Soup. Entrees included Baingan Bhurtha (roasted eggplant) and Kashmiri Dum Aloo (filled potatoes). They were both delicious. We ordered them medium spicy and they had some zing! The garlic naan was garlic forward! We finished our meal with the Gulub Jaman (fried cheese balls in syrup). Indian restaurants in central NJ had better be pretty damned good in order to compete. Well, Masala Art might be the best that I've had in the whole state. What do I know? Well, I used to live here. I also know my way around homemade vegetarian Indian food. Trust me: if you like Indian food, you'll like Masala Art. We shared all vegetarian items when we visited. Nothing to complain about. They started us off with papadum that came with a tasty onion chutney and a green chutney. We all shared roti, aloo paratha, garlic naan, mulligatawny, saag paneer, chana masala, dal special, and mattar paneer. Oh, almost forgot raita. We finished everything and we were quite satisfied. For the record, we were three Indians and myself. They said that they have two versions of mulligatawny: with or without chicken stock. Be sure to specify when you order. BYO! Agreed that salmon was used but it appeared that it was taken out frozen thawed and some red color put on and over cooked in tandoor. Secondly they did not keep up to the delivery time.
