We had eaten here once before and loved the food so much that we stopped by on this visit to Oregon City. from our home in Sutherlin before even checking in to our hotel! Yes the menu is small, but the food is wonderful. We had samosas, shrimp vindaloo and a chicken aloo dish along with the most tasty naan bread. I recently moved into this neighborhood, so this is the closest store to my place. I'm not a huge fan of Indian food, but this place smells incredible. The owner/Operator is very nice. He took the time to explain some of the dishes that he prepares himself. I love the Samosa. They are awesome. The best part, is he carries my Mike's Mango Punch. He doesn't charge a deposit on cans, but he doesn't return them either, so save your cans and take them in somewhere else. Don't go to the strange cig shack next door for any reason, EVER! He ripped me off. I think he is an awful person and I will never return, for anything. But the Masala Box is wonderful and I can't wait to try my next adventure meal with them. read more

I only ever get the chicken curry. I have never tried anything else except that and the samosas. BUT it is because the chicken curry is SO good and you get a good portion for what you pay. The chicken and potatoes are sooo tender(every time), the rice is soft, and the flavors are great. There hasn't been a week that's gone by that I didn't want the curry for lunch or didn't go and get it since I first came here. Service is friendly and prompt. I like to call ahead for take out. This place is not fancy and is by all means CASUAL. Menu is limited but simple. It is small inside and has two tables to dine on. I just love that about this place though. I LOVE Masala Box. This is a small place with a smallish menu, but everything is exceptional. All the basics are covered. Great naan, veggie samosas, curry, saag, mango lassis and madras coffee, etc. Super reasonable prices. Super generous portions. Maybe not great for large groups since there are only three or four small tables. It's more like a delicatessen vibe, but with quality restaurant food. We always get takeout and have enough leftover for lunch the next day. I don't think anything on the menu is more than ten dollars, so it's a good value. Also, it's pretty good for vegetarians since they have veggie options. The owners are the nicest, most courteous people you'll ever meet. I know I'm going overboard with praise but I really love that I don't have to drive to Portland for Indian food again. read more

My husband & I legitimately feel like we've found a hidden gem. We live so close up the road and can't believe we are barely finding out about this place. The food is so delicious and it feels as if you're eating a homey meal. The owner is so nice & was always checking up on us during our meal, which we really appreciated. The naan bread was extremely good & the MANGO LASSI was to die for too. We shared a meal with our toddler and it was the perfect amount of food. We have visited twice. Both times quite amazing. Dined there the first time, take out the second. Dine in is a little sparse, but interacting with the owners is a real treat. They love what they are doing and they take the time to do it right. The saag is great and the curry is also just right. Now days when we want Indian Food, Marsala Box is at the top of the list. Oak Grove & Gladstone are such a wasteland for interesting food if you want something other than fast food or greasy Asian-Americanized food so it was such a lovely treat to find this tiny place serving up authentic Indian food. From the street, the appearance of Masala Box is a bit daunting - I hesitated going there for 6 months to a year. I am glad that I didn't wait any longer - the food is DELICIOUS and the owners are very nice. I discovered this place on Yelp and ordered take out for the first time yesterday. I tried the chicken masala, shrimp vindaloo, chicken aloo paratha and the samosas. Everything was delicious. I ordered the masala and vindaloo mild. The flavor was great but I will probably get it medium next time. I was just being cautious since I hadn't eaten there before. The paratha came medium and was excellent. The portion sizes are large and our family is eating the food for another meal today. The owner was friendly and helpful, answering any questions I had. Don't be fooled by the less than appealing location! They are set back from the road and easy to miss, especially if you're staring at the neighboring shop that looks like a scene from hoarders... But the masala box is clean and bright and the man and woman (husband and wife I presume) are just as amazing as their food. They have a beer section like a mini mart and then a little dining area that's brightly lit with basic tables and chairs. Now let's talk about the two things that make this place amazing, the food and the people! The food is fantastic! Some of the best Indian food I've ever had. The saag is delicious! Tangy with tons of flavor and a little heat. The samosa's are to DIE FOR honestly, the masala box samosa would be part of my last meal on this earth if I had any say (but I can't because I'm stuffing my face with them!) obviously this couple has found their calling and their love and passion for what they are doing is apparent in the taste and flavor of their cuisine.
