I have a theory that the better the ethnic food, the more haphazard they are with the spice level. I asked for a suggestion and was grateful the server offered his advice for the madras. Then I ordered medium to which he says "why didn't you ask for my spice suggestion" then he says "I cannot eat the medium". Point taken so I got the mild. My friend got the tikka also mild. I started to eat mine and was like "whoa that is actually a little spicy". Then I tried hers and it was much spicier than mine. Not intolerable spicy but certainly not mild. Lots of spice but the flavors did not remind me of Indian food I've had in the past. Much more assertive much less sweet. I liked the bread. Went with a group of 5 at lunchtime, and we ordered butter masala, khorma, vindaloo, and garlic cheese naan. The food was simply delicious. Every dish we ordered was extremely flavorful and well-received, with generous portions. I wish every Indian restaurant offered garlic cheese naan like this and the vindaloo was quite spicy (as advertised!) The service could have been a bit more attentive--we had to remind about our naan and call them over a few times to ask for boxes and the check, but there was only one server during a slight lunch rush. The interior decor is serviceable and clean, just not fancy. Absolutely worth a visit, and I'll be returning to try more dishes! read more

Overall rating would be a 3.75 Went with 2 friends for lunch on a weekday. The place was not very busy at 11:30, but got busier closer to 12:00. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and there is a lot of parking. We started with an order of Pappadum's and we all liked them. I liked the mint chutney sauce better than the Tamarind sauce. I ordered the butter chicken masala which had great flavor and was really good. We also ordered some plain nan and white rice came with the meal. One friend ordered the Tikka Masala and liked it. My other friend ordered the Mango Chicken Tikka Masala which was our least favorite. Service was okay, but really slow. The bathrooms need more attention. I ordered the lamb vindaloo, and it was probably the best I've ever had. I was not able to get a photo because I ate it too fast. The picture I included was of the mango tiki masala my mom ordered, which was just as amazing. I also added a pic of the garlic naan, which was really great too. I placed the order, and the staff were super friendly. It was ready in about 25 minutes. I didn't dine in, so I can't say much about the service beyond a friendly phone call when I picked it up, but everyone seemed pretty nice. The vibe of the place looks pretty much like other Indian restaurants. I didn't eat there, so I can't say much about the atmosphere, but it looked comfy. Food~We were are craving Indian Cuisine (we could no longer go to our normal spot anymore) and, we looked a few places the first one we chose we had to wait for another hour and half. Zaiqa~Butter Masala the meat was tender and, had a good flavor but, it's not butter chicken (I am not a fan of masala). Matai Kofta (it reminds of egg foo young taste and texture). It was good but, we will not order again) Mixed Grill, veggie samosas, lamb biryani, and garlic naan were absolutely delicious and piping hot. Service~Our waiter was extremely helpful and gave exceptional service. We are allowed to seat where ever we are greeted with very cold water, plates, napkins, and silverware. Ambiance~It's in a small strip mall but, it has plenty of parking in the front and, on the side. The restaurant is very clean and, it's a restroom in the back. This is some really solid Indian food for this part of town. My husband and I ordered pakoras, samosas, butter masala, and tikka massala along with some garlic naan and a mango lassi. One, might be obvious to most but butter masala is definitely not to be confused with butter chicken- it was fantastic but definitely on the more spicy side (even ordered mild) and I consider us to have a fairly high spice tolerance. The naan and tikka masala were perfect. The pakoras were heavily battered, not the best I've had but decent. The mango lassi felt lacking, it had an odd taste that almost felt like fake sweetener in it, it was the only thing I probably wouldn't order again. Otherwise, really solid overall and feels like a bit of a hidden gem for lake Oswego. We will definitely be back to try more. read more

We had the Karahi with Tofu, Methi Curry with Paneer, Garlic Naan, and Punjabi Batura. This is a decent restaurant. The downside is that their flavors are not as rich and complex as I have had elsewhere. There were no unpleasant tastes, but not as interesting as elsewhere. This is a big negative. This restaurant didn't serve some of my favorites (for example Palak Paneer), this is a negative and also a positive. On the downside, I didn't eat my favorite dish. On the upside, this prompted me to try some new stuff that I would not have tried otherwise. In fact, I would say that this restaurant has some interesting offerings not available elsewhere. This is clearly a positive for people with an adventurous spirit! One thing that we liked was that dishes in the "custom entrees" section can be ordered with any protein. This is nice for vegetarians and vegans. The menu's description of Karahi includes the word "Capsicum". I confused this with "capsaicin" and expected it to be spicy. It was not. The Karahi was decent, but not exciting. The vegetables aren't cooked as fully as we have seen in other Indian restaurants, so they still have some crunch. This is good or bad depending on your preferences. (I didn't prefer it this way) The methi and garlic naan was tasty. Nothing to remark on. The Punjabi batura is a fried bread. It was very tasty and I have not seen this elsewhere. We laughed at the restroom situation. The soap dispenser had come off the wall and was lying on its side on the counter. The restaurant provided a free-standing pump dispenser, but they left the nonfunctional wall-mounted dispenser sitting on the counter anyway. They noticed the nonfunctional soap dispenser, so why not get rid of it. The seating was very uncomfortable. They have some booths to the left of the door (as you enter), but the backs are so severely straight that they're uncomfortable. We ultimately moved to the other end of the room which has regular chairs, but the backs are mostly absent, so they're uncomfortable too. I think that the chairs aren't as bad as the booth seating. read more

I've been on tiffintok for a while on TikTok so that creator has really gotten me craving some Indian food. Just getting back from a music festival and wanting something nourishing and delicious. Zaiqa really hit the spot for one of the first curries we will have this fall. Their vindaloo has so many warm spices and paired with the lamb that was super tender and delicious. They said it was spicy but my tolerance is pretty high so you can be the judge on your own but it's definitely tasty. My husband had the tikka masala and it was really great. He makes it a bunch at home and I know when he makes it next time it's going to be even better because he can add in the notes that we really enjoyed here. Of course we had to enjoy it with their garlic naan which the waiter helped us decide the best tandoori bread to go with it. Such a nice and perfect meal. Definitely will come again and get some Mango Lassi too. (Side note - they're also on DoorDash and do a happy hour special so you can get a delivery discount too). read more

TLDR: slow service, reheated food, actually inedible pakora, overall very poor quality food. They 1000% need a better chef. Pros: gluten free and vegan options were super clearly labeled on the menu which is great. Plenty of gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, and omni options. Cons: the food and chai were awful. I am not a picky eater, if I can dip it in tamarind chutney I will eat it, but the onion pakora was absolutely inedible, it was bitter and almost tasted rancid. My husband's samosa was so hard he couldn't break through it to let the steam out. It had clearly all been made much earlier and reheated. The chai my husband had took 25 minutes to come out and was obviously some powdered mix with way too much milk and he decided it wasn't worth drinking. The service took a long time despite being a very slow day with only 3 tables. Also the music was horrible. I love most of the music from India that I have heard and this was just awful hip hop type Punjabi music according to my husband but it just was not the vibe. The food is definitely "5-STAR" - the ambience is okay - the location is meh...but set aside all your judgements and go here for some amazing Indian cuisine. Recently opened Indian bistro off Bangy Road packs nice flavors into its familiar dishes, although somewhat haphazard ambience leaves something to be desired. Tucked in the back of a shopping center also featuring a Christian bookstore and Sesame Donuts, this establishment didn't have a sign up for a number of months. Luckily, that didn't deter us from having both lunch and later dinner there. We generally order the same array of dishes when trying a new Indian restaurant, and we did the same here--Samosas, Chicken Tikka, Saag Paneer, Tandoori Chicken and Naan. In short, Zaiqa delivered in flavor and preparation. Especially good were the Samosas and Tandoori. Portions were average. Service was friendly and competent--basically one guy running the front of the house. The dining room itself is small--maybe 9-10 tables at most--and with Bollywood videos on TVs, airbrushed art and fluorescent lights, it's a bit odd. But if you're looking for no-fuss, solid Indian food, this place is recommended. (4.0 stars). read more

To preface this review, we have been to Zaiqa before and had a great experience. This time my wife, son and I came expecting the same experience. We ordered seven items on the menu and the server began to repeat them. After mentioning two of the items he said, okay I got it. There were two other customers in the restaurant at the time as we came before the dinner crowd. The service was slower than expected, however, the music was lovely and the ambiance was spare but clean. The food was delicious, however, we noticed that my entree of chicken tikka masala was missing, as were my son's French fries. The server quickly repaired the situation and apologized. The rest of our meal was delicious and thorough. We ordered the vegetable pakoras, the madras curry stew, the paneer pakoras, the gulab jamin, and a couple other delicious menu items like the chicken tikka masala. We visited Zaika during our road trip and were looking forward to a nice dinner with family. We arrived around 8:10 PM and were promptly reminded by the front staff to place our order quickly as the restaurant closes at 9 PM. While we understood the closing time, we were a bit surprised by the urgency since there was still plenty of time left. Our food arrived promptly and tasted good. However, just as we began eating, the staff started sweeping the floors right next to our table, and by 8:30 PM they began mopping with extremely strong-smelling cleaning chemicals. The smell was overwhelming and made it difficult to enjoy our meal. We had no choice but to pack up our food, pay, and leave early. We believe the management should consider training the staff to wait until customers have finished dining before starting the cleaning process. Alternatively, they could allocate cleanup time after closing hours to ensure a more pleasant dining experience for guests. read more

We first found out that it reopened with a different name, and were immediately excited, so we decided to go here for dinner. When we entered, the waiter greeted us nicely, and led us to our booth. He took our order after he brought us water and extra plates. All the food came very quickly. For appetizers, the papadums were very yummy and the veggie pakoras were absolutely delish. This terrific restaurant recently opened in the space where a previous Indian restaurant was, next to Hush Hush, Pizzacato, and Hunan Pearl. It is absolutely terrific Indian and Pakistani food, as good as any in the Metro region. I'd given up on finding great Indian food in SW and was so happy and surprised to discover this! Extensive menu, fresh ingredients, authentic recipes and preparation. I've tried all the go to items - masala, vindaloo, tandoori, saagwala, garlic naan - and each was exquisite, the real deal. I've gotten carry out twice. It was easy to order online and quick. They cleaned up and refreshed what was a tired and uninviting room, and I now wouldn't hesitate to eat in. Incredibly pure food -- and very kind! The chef/cook explained how they use a special flower (roasted and ground) to tenderize the lamb, no chemicals. Then, they prepare the halal lamb in the most delicious curry; flavorful, spiced just right. While I was there (about a month ago), a construction worker who travels heavily shared how he loves the food so much, he goes to their other restaurant clear across the state...and rushed to get here before they closed.
