I almost forgot to leave a review for this little gem. This is a no-frills authentic place to get some Indian food. There are two tables (outside the grocery store) where you can eat a piping hot (temperature) Indian meal that's a bit spicy but not too spicy. Coming over here feels very hygge on a rainy day in the Pacific Northwest. I recommend the vegan vindaloo made of soy "chicken." The owners (a couple who worked in the corporate world for decades, retired, and then started this grocery store and restaurant) are very nice. Superior customer service! Unfortunately, I always came here after a long day of "working from home," so I didn't feel particularly chatty or inclined to interact much with them. They got the hint and left me alone. My only suggestion would be to incorporate some green vegetables into your meals. That's the only reason why I didn't come here very often. Oh my goodness, this is legitimate Indian food! Best in Oregon, best I've had in years! Not filled with creamy sauces... fresh and light. Naan and paratha both fresh and delicious. Went here on a whim. Small place. It is a small convenience store, with damn good Indian food. It is ran by two amazing people that seem to love their jobs and are happy to see you when you walk into their store. We ordered the medium spicy level of the curry, I love spicy and cans handle some real spice. But the way they prepared it was great and had the perfect level of spice. This was a really good meal. Although you can eat in, it's like eating in the middle of a 7-11, so recommended for take-out only. There are only about 8 items on the menu. Since this was my first visit, I asked the owner what his specialty was. I got a very long non-answer about all the things he wished could be on the menu, so I switched tactics and asked what two dishes he recommended for two people to share and again got a non-answer. I heard a similar routine with another customer about samosa ingredients, so it definitely wasn't just me. Home cooked and authentic! Very small menu but, if you want real Indian food this is your stop. I have tried several vegetarian dishes as well as the chicken masala and they are all absolutely wonderful. Over salted because the food had been reheated over and over despite the owner talking our ears of on how he prepare his food fresh to order including showing us the tomato and onion that he said he is going to cook with. Turns out from reading other reviews he did the same act of showing the Veg to everyone! Wow. Quite an act there sir. lol. When we received the food no way that the potatoes have developed the color of the dish if it's only cook 30 minutes ago. I understand that stew type of food is better the next day because all the flavor will marry beautifully, but in this case because it's been reheated for God knows how long, all we can taste is salt. salt. salt We also ordered naan. Who would expect a super small convenient store to cook such delicious food? I certainly hesitated when Google maps told me that I have arrived. I gave the place a chance because of the high ratings on Yelp and I've been back multiple times ever since! This little convenient store only has 3 tables inside and 2 tables outside. Most customers take their food togo when I come during dinner time. The couple who owns and runs this place is extremely friendly and cooks delicious food! Ordered the Chicken Curry, the saag, and 2 naan breads. The chicken in it was fantastic, but the sauce and rice are TOGETHER in the box. Tons of rice underneath the curry. I prefer to add my own amount of rice, like when they are served separately. These were not, and it diluted both Curry and Saag. So very disappointing. And for $60??? The guy in there is EXTREMELY nice, but the rice needs to be separate from the curries. Will never go here again. read more

Indian food can be difficult to find in the suburbs so we were excited to stumble upon this place when looking for take out in the Gladstone area! It's not much to look at from the outside, in fact we accidentally drove right past the first time by. It looks more like a mini mart but does have it's own parking lot. We ordered the Chicken Masala Curry, Vegan Samosas, and a side of naan. The total cane to a little of $40 which seemed a bit steep for take out for 2 people but when we got home we realized we had over ordered and had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. The size options they had given us for the Chicken Curry was not the same as what we had seen listed on menu pictures so we just said Regular size which ended up being the $20 order, we would have been fine with the smaller order which we now know. The food was flavorful and tasty. We picked medium spicy and I might try hot next time as I did not find it particularly spicy. I wished the chicken had a bit more sauce but overall it was great. The side order of naan came with only one piece which we didn't realize and were a bit surprised at given the large portions of the other items. This is a locally owned tiny Indian food takeaway spot kinda not really located by the highway. While they do have a limited number of not very comfortable seats inside should you so be inclined the true focus of this spot is take out food. It's not really all that much to look at from the outside, and the inside decor is early convenience store. They do have a range of beer, wine and other soda/juice things to go along with what is pretty good cuisine. The menu is subject to change depending on all sorts of factors but will typically include three veg and three meat items, along with samosas, lassi and coffee. Be warned that Indian filter coffee is heavy on chicory. Not a bad thing but some folks aren't expecting it. We went with chicken biryani and chana masala along with (of course) samosas. The birayani was excellent. I like how when we placed to order they asked us what we wanted for the spice level. Not every place does that. the portions are pretty big. We had enough leftovers to make lunch the next day. They were abundantly friendly. They gave us extra chutney's for the samosa's without us asking and at no charge, and if you don't know a lot about this style of cuisine they are more then happy to explain things. Pricing is reasonable-you are looking at ten dollars a plate ish. It's not perfect by any means-the chana masala was just average in quality, and while I totally enjoyed the biryani this may not be food that will be world changing for you. The Masala Box is a very small mart with some simple homemade food. We entered with various others coming and going to pick up cold drinks and be on their way. The gentleman who recently took over the building explained the food carefully, gave us a history on the businesses there before him and was very obliging. We were excited to stop in and try the food. His kitchen was newly repaired from the previous tenants. Everything behind the door was shining and clean. As most locals know, Indian food is hard to find in this area. We were crossing our fingers that the Masala Box would be a place we could get our frequent Indian food fix. Crossing our fingers paid off. We will be regulars for pick up dining from now on. Do not be deceived by the mini mart exterior in a not so pretty area of Gladstone. This is a homemade family kitchen. I felt rather honored to be there (trust me when you taste this food, you will agree). No false pretenses. Simple, pure, honest Indian food. There is not a Sysco food truck in sight and thank the universe for that. The menu is small and staple. We tried two very common dishes. The Chicken Curry, the Saag, a Vegetable Samosa and some Naan. The Chicken Curry was good. It was very traditional and the chicken was not dry. I would put it up as a solid contender. Now the Saag was simply a winner. It was perfectly seasoned. The spiced spinach, tomato and zucchini melted into the fluffy basmati rice. It was rich and creamy without the presence of dairy. No cream and no butter, it did not disappoint. It exceeded all of my expectations. I will be eating this dish from Masala Box from now on. Everything about this Saag was brilliant. I can see why he has been making his Saag this way for forty years. The Naan was pillowy and crispy with fine flavor. The Samosa was delicious. He let us sample his special for the day, Paratha Bread, which he did not charge us for. If he has it in the future, get it. It is like a thin, flaky, buttery biscuit. Ridiculously good. There is nothing on the menu over ten dollars (and those that meet the ten dollar mark are family sized seafood portions such as shrimp and salmon). You can walk out with a stomach full of good food, and most likely some leftovers for less than five dollars. Twelve dollars fed two grown adults and a child with enough leftover to take home in a box. Quality and quantity fit in here at Masala Box. Certainly try this Indian kitchen for local, delicious Indian food and a very sincere gentlemanly owner. read more

I'm so glad I got Two naan because there was enough curry for three full meals! There were 5 full chicken thigh and two big potatoes! Along with about 4 cups of basmati with sauce!!! I got the medium spice and it was perfect!! What I got was the 'regular' size thinking it would be enough plus a tad of left overs.... man oh man!
