This is some of the best Thai food we've had in Alabama and well worth the drive. We had the cashew chicken, pad Thai and masaman chicken! The staff was friendly and made sure we enjoyed what we were eating and the facility was clean and inviting. read more

If you live in Vestavia or drive past here on your way home from ANYWHERE and you haven't eaten here then you are doing it wrong. I haven't actually eaten in the restaurant, but I get takeout from here about once a week. Better than Surin or other local Thai joints. Seriously. The panang curry, masaman, pad Thai, basil rolls, crab angels, all of it is incredible! The spicy coconut soup here is the best I've ever had, hands down. So flavorful and they don't skimp on the ingredients like chicken, mushrooms, or tofu. I don't know what they do to their tofu, but it actually tastes good, by itself, which is rare. If you're in the area, TRY THIS PLACE. It's a hole in the wall, but the food will leave you satisfied. Also, the lady that works the front counter is soooo nice! Firstly, the decor is very cold and uninviting. I don't like having to order at the counter before we site down. There is no large menu to step back and read, just a menu on the counter. I felt like we were holding others up. Also, get a nice menu with some great color photos. I would have liked to have more time to look at the menu. I feel I made a rash decision and I was not satisfied with my meal. I ordered the pad Thai and although the rice noodles were cooked well, I hated the sauce. It was so sweet and too orange colored for my taste. I hate sweet pad Thai. I was rushed when ordering and totally forgot to ask if they made their sauce sweet. Anyway. I also ordered a munch crunch sushi roll in yet another rushed and bad decision. I really thought this could be prepared quickly and sent to the table as an appetizer. Not the case. It came AFTER we finished everything else. Very disappointing. Apparently this thing has to be deep fried and then baked. It's greasy and dripping with some sauce and crunchy things on top. The fish inside was cooked, everything else was blended and cooked together. So nasty. Hot sushi is awful. Big mistake. On a good note, my wife enjoyed her beef salad which was very fresh and good. Also, her coconut soup was pretty good. It was dinner time and we were the only ones in there. Maybe they do a lot of takeout. With the decor, I can see that. It's not comfortable at all. Get a decorator, spend some money, have a nice menu printed and have sit down table service. That's all I got. Last thing: They don't have Sriracha sauce. I picked up food to go and was really excited to eat here because I had heard great things about it but was not impressed by their Pad SeeEw which is one of my favorite things to order but I found their take on it dry and lacking in flavor. I also ordered the Masaman curry which had some Indian influenced spices which was not bad however this was my first time trying it and didn't have anything to compare it to. I wanted to like their food but maybe I ordered the wrong items. I was also surprised to see they didn't have Papaya salad on their menu (another fave of mine). read more

I'm not sure why this establishment has an over 4 star rating. I've eaten at many different Thai restaurants all over the US this by far was one of the worst. I would rank it last of the ones I've eaten at locally. I ordered 2 lunch specials and the portion size was small and only came with soup. I adore Thai food - everything from rich curries to light basil rolls, I love it all. After reading the incredible reviews for this place, and realizing it was just up the road a bit from my office, I decided to try it. I chose the Masaman Chicken lunch special - how could I not?? It was a VERY generous portion of chicken, velvety-delicious sauce and rice. The coconut soup was very refreshing - perhaps more lime than other local Thai places - but that was PERFECT for lunchtime. Just for fun, I ordered basil rolls - I love them and find they are a good indicator of the rest of the food. Masaman Thai's basil rolls were some of the best I've had - light and fresh, with each flavor speaking to you - filling, but fresh. Finally - feel the love, guys. The couple who runs this place loves doing this and you can taste that happiness in every scrumptious bite. They are friendly and welcoming and hella-talented in the kitchen!! This new restaurant is just OK at first try. I'd give it a 3.5 but 4 is much too generous. First the positives - the food quality is excellent and the restaurant is clean. The menu has good variety and I do want to go back and give it at least one more try. The Pad Thai was a bit too sweet and strangely lacked flavor. The potstickers/dumplings were very good. The eggrolls were OK. The portions were somewhat small for the price tag and the food is served in to-go Styrofoam boxes. If it was all a few dollars cheaper, I might bump it up to four stars because of the friendly service and quality but the price point makes me feel like I'm not getting what I paid for. read more

This is great place for Thai food. The price is reasonable and the food is good. This is the second time in this restauant and the first time we ordered Thai Larb, roasted duck w panang curry and Rack of lamb W / garlic chili, which are all very good. This time I ordered Namtok Beef and it is good also but not as good as the other dishes I ordered first time. I highly recomemdn the roasted duck w panang curry. read more

This is probably the best Thai food I've had since moving to Alabama. There are a few decent Thai places here and more have cropped up which is fantastic, but Masaman has got to be the best one for quality, consistency, and price. I usually order the Pad Siew Ew and the spicy chicken soup. You can tell them to make it Thai hot and believe me, they make it Thai hot. The beef in the PSE is always very tender and tasty and I love the broccoli. The spicy chicken soup is exactly how I remember it from Thailand. I'm really very happy with this restaurant and I highly recommend it to anyone in the mood for delicious, authentic Thai. read more

Stopped by here after a movie and chose the Thai classic fried rice, I asked them to add some basil and make it as hot as possible. The chef said he had some ghost peppers he would add to give it a real kick. It was delicious!!! And flavorful!!! Customer service was excellent too. This place is one of those tiny, unassuming hole-in-the-wall spots that I love discovering! There is not much to say about the restaurant itself. It's a very small parcel in a Publix center, with on 3 or 4 tables. But as soon as you walk in, you know you are in an authentic Thai restaurant. The smell is the best selling point you could have. I ordered the chicken masaman and the panang curry, as these are my two favorite Thai dishes. If you can get them right, then I have faith to order anything else and it will. E good. The masaman was some of the best that I've had! The sauce was rich and flavorful and I love it when the recipe includes avacado! The panang had that slight hint of peanut and a great spice. I stopped here for an early dinner. I'm not a fan of ordering and paying at the counter, as I'm tipping in advance for the level of service I hope to receive. Here the service consisted of bringing out my soup and entree at the same time and stopping by my table once to ask "is it too hot?" That was probably prompted by seeing me get up to refill my iced tea (you serve yourself tea here). I ordered tom yum soup and the green curry chicken. The soup had good sized shrimp, but instead of the hot/sour I expected, it was hot/salty. It also had a slightly soapy aftertaste (maybe from the dishware). I ended up picking out the mushroom and shrimp to eat and leaving the broth. The green curry was very good - tender chicken and well cooked vegetables. read more

I love this place. Birmingham has a good many nicer Thai restaurants, but what we have been missing is places similar to this. Sometimes it's nice to get Asian cuisine without getting Chinese takeout. Their curry dishes are delicious and my favorite is the pad "see-you" & They also have that delicious coconut soup that is well known at Sarin in the area but is also equally delicious in other Thai restaurants. It's located next to the new Fuji hibachi express and Publix in the Publix shopping center on 31 in vestavia, so it's easy to get to from Homewood cutting through the neighborhoods or even from Hoover. Highly recommend for a great lunch or dinner take out. read more

I am so happy this restaurant is here! Even though it's mainly a take out place, it has more authentic Thai food than Surin or any other sit down Thai restaurant in the Birmingham area. Since it is mostly a take out place, the food is brought to the table in styrofoam containers. What lacks in fancy decor is made up in the amazing flavors in the food. I ordered the Chili eggplant with chicken which was excellent!! It had an amazing bold flavor with a kick of spice since it's cooked with chili paste. I can't wait to order it again! My husband ordered the Pad Thai with chicken which he loved since it wasn't too wet or sweet. The people working there were so sweet and I felt like I was being served home cooked food. Yep, this place is great! I have had Masaman Curry a few times already, and it is delightful each time. I also tried a bit of pad thai, and I believe most dishes they make are going to be great. Super friendly and fast service. The Panang with Chicken was delicious! I tried my friend's Pad Spicy Noodle with Chicken and it was pretty good but the Panang blew it out of the water. I gave the Pot Stickers a shot and was not disappointed; great texture, flavorful filling with a kick and served with that incredible Panang sauce. Not the kind of place you want to sit and eat, more of a to go place, which is fine. Ordered masaman curry, beef Thai spicy noodles, and fried rice. Masaman curry was DELICIOUS and the portion was generous. Noodles and fried rice were good, but not as great as the curry. I would keep going back to get the masaman. Also, we eat spicy, so we got everything Thai hot, which wasn't the best idea. Stick to just hot, that way you can still taste the food and not have the sniffles :) read more

Tried it for the first time tonight, getting take-out. So flavorful, and the chicken panang is spicy! My mouth is on fire and I'm sweating - this is a good thing! Looking forward to trying other items. Snagged a menu so I can call ahead next time, but the wait wasn't bad at all, and since it is next door to Publix I picked up a few things while I waited.
