Interesting take on fusion. Asian-Mexican favorites all come together in some yummy tacos and burritos. Service was friendly and the vibe is super casual. Ordered the Rick Roll and was pleasantly surprised. A great take on a surf and turf burrito. Would come back next time I'm in Birmingham!

A nice take on fusion cuisine (Mexican and sushi) that is a hole in the wall. The service is pretty quick. I usually grab mine to go and head over to the brewery for an adult accompaniment. The sticky rice that takes the place of the tortilla is what makes the whole thing work.

First time here and tried the sushi nachos. Such a great dish that you can't get just anywhere! The flavor was incredible but the value wasn't so great. I spent about $15 a piece for my meal and for each of my son's meals. They got the sushi burritos and rated them a 6/10. One of my sons immediately wondered aloud about their profit margin. I would definitely go back but hope they increase the amount of food for the price.

Food is consistently good. Normally get the Destin but wanted to try the rainbow roll this time - definitely worth it. Love all of the UAB support. Interior is small but doesn't feel that way. Service also consistently quick and nice! My go to lunch or dinner place when I want something fun!!!

This was my first time getting try a sushi burrito and it did NOT disappoint. Service was so good and they were so kind. Great little place to stop at if your just driving by or in town

Here's the 4:20 reference for those wondering.

My sister & I made a quick trip to Birmingham and she mentioned that she'd found a questionable gluten-sensitive restaurant. She questioned it because it was an Asian-Mexican fusion restaurant. I was intrigued and figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. The restaurant lives in a very low key center with a barbershop and brewery. The inside was relatively small but had enough room that you could enjoy your meal without hearing everything the table next to you is discussing. The menu was pretty straight forward considering the combinations weren't anything you'd successfully make at home. Service was quick and friendly (I think it's family-owned). Food was everything that I didn't know that I needed! I had the 4:20 nachos, Ceviche taco & Avondale taco. My sister even gave me a bit of her Samurai burrito. *chef's kiss* I can't wait to come back for my own sushi burrito!

Wasabi Juan's never disappoints! The freshness & burst of flavors are always on point, & the portions are always just right. The menu is marked gluten free (GF), & there are plenty of apps, burritos, & tacos to choose from. You can order online, & there are two locations + a food truck to satisfy your Mexican/Sushi cravings. Suggestion- Indicate dairy free options on the menu or have a separate menu for dietary restrictions (GF/DF/SF).

Cute intimate restaurant. Reasonably priced. Very unique flavor combinations. Vegetarian options: 1 entree & 5 sides. The nachos had tuna on them. I ate around the tuna. I liked them most. The slaw was not what expected. I expected to taste more mango but barely tasted any. The edamame was as expected slightly spicier than I thought, but my husband liked them. I won't be a regular, but the nachos or edamame would be a good snack while drinking a brew at District.

Our neighborhood has been inviting food trucks to come to the local school to provide options during the COVID 19 pandemic. We've been requesting Wasabi Juan's for a while, and this past week they were finally on the schedule! Yay!! Knowing how much of a demand they were in, I told my husband we needed to get there early/right when they opened. We were the 4th order in line, and by the time we left, the line was wrapped around! Ordering/paying was easy, and given their order demand, I felt they were turning them around at a fair pace. We ordered a lot (for multiple meals)... I got the 420 nachos with chicken for dinner and the cowboy for the next day. The nachos were spot on.. just like I had remembered them! Super filling too! The cowboy was good the next day, and the chips and salsa were spot on! My husband doesn't like salsa, so I got his as well! Yum! Hopefully the truck will be back in Trussville area again soon!

IKKO Japanese Fusion…read more IKKO Japanese Fusion was a pleasant culinary surprise! We ordered delivery one night and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We tried both the Salmon and Beef Poke Bowls. The Salmon was outstanding -- fresh and flavorful, easily my favorite. The Beef version was a bit bland and dry for my taste, though. The sides really shined. The Takoyaki (octopus dumplings) were delicious and unique, topped with Takoyaki sauce, tempura scraps, and perfectly cooked. The Gyoza, Japanese Egg Rolls, and Shrimp Tempura were all light, crispy, and excellent. The Squid Salad was also very good and made a nice addition. Overall, a tasty experience with some standout items. We'll definitely be back soon!

My friends and I also love stopping in just to grab boba at the front to-go counter. The boba always comes out very quickly and they have a large menu of fruit teas and milk teas to choose from. Service is always quick and friendly and I usually am able to be seated immediately. Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for Japanese cuisine, or just to gather at a restaurant where there is something everyone can enjoy!

All servers made sure drinks were filled and each table had what they needed. Food is always great but I did try something new and everything was excellent. The batter on the green beans were so crunchy and perfectly salted! I dipped mine in soy sauce but it also comes with a pretty tasty and mild sauce. My cocktail was so light and refreshing! Not sweet and very nice sake! Highly recommend! The bulgogi was good as well! I'm not a huge fan of kimchi but this was good! Lots of jasmine rice and carrots! Only critique for the entree would be to add a little more flavor. Maybe a tempura crunch, or a roasted nut, or each some green onion to give an added flavor. I did add soy sauce on it and it was pretty good! No complaints and a happy belly here! Great atmosphere for date or family night. I have a hard time refusing any brussel sprout dish when dining out, and this one did not disappoint! The Brussels were perfectly crispy and had a perfect sweet & spicy flavor. This one was more rice-heavy, but it's still packed with flavor. We then ordered the Beef Wrapped Asparagus, along with the Bangkok Sushi Roll and the Suteki Roll. My favorite was the Bangkok Roll, which was topped with matchstick potatoes. The Suteki Roll was super unique, filled with sliced apple, cream cheese, avocado, and salmon. The Beef Wrapped Asparagus was a good addition, but I'm most impressed with the rolls we ordered. The menu is unique and comprehensive. There's detail put into every dish! There was clearly an overstaffing of servers. There were about 6 or 7 servers for about 4 takes that were in there. Meanwhile the sushi makers were trying their hardest to push out the rolls. And the single bartender was overwhelmed. The sushi was pricey (18-20$ for 6-8 pieces) and EXTREMELY underwhelming. Didn't seem like high quality fish or anything special. Could get similar quality for much cheaper elsewhere. My favorite sushi place that is about the same price point is Bamboo on 2nd. I've been going there for years and never had a bad experience. They have much higher quality sushi, better service, and food in general. (No I'm not affiliated with them)
