Interesting take on fusion. Asian-Mexican favorites all come together in some yummy tacos and burritos. Service was friendly and the vibe is super casual. Ordered the Rick Roll and was pleasantly surprised. A great take on a surf and turf burrito. Would come back next time I'm in Birmingham!

A nice take on fusion cuisine (Mexican and sushi) that is a hole in the wall. The service is pretty quick. I usually grab mine to go and head over to the brewery for an adult accompaniment. The sticky rice that takes the place of the tortilla is what makes the whole thing work.

First time here and tried the sushi nachos. Such a great dish that you can't get just anywhere! The flavor was incredible but the value wasn't so great. I spent about $15 a piece for my meal and for each of my son's meals. They got the sushi burritos and rated them a 6/10. One of my sons immediately wondered aloud about their profit margin. I would definitely go back but hope they increase the amount of food for the price.

Food is consistently good. Normally get the Destin but wanted to try the rainbow roll this time - definitely worth it. Love all of the UAB support. Interior is small but doesn't feel that way. Service also consistently quick and nice! My go to lunch or dinner place when I want something fun!!!

This was my first time getting try a sushi burrito and it did NOT disappoint. Service was so good and they were so kind. Great little place to stop at if your just driving by or in town

Here's the 4:20 reference for those wondering.

My sister & I made a quick trip to Birmingham and she mentioned that she'd found a questionable gluten-sensitive restaurant. She questioned it because it was an Asian-Mexican fusion restaurant. I was intrigued and figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. The restaurant lives in a very low key center with a barbershop and brewery. The inside was relatively small but had enough room that you could enjoy your meal without hearing everything the table next to you is discussing. The menu was pretty straight forward considering the combinations weren't anything you'd successfully make at home. Service was quick and friendly (I think it's family-owned). Food was everything that I didn't know that I needed! I had the 4:20 nachos, Ceviche taco & Avondale taco. My sister even gave me a bit of her Samurai burrito. *chef's kiss* I can't wait to come back for my own sushi burrito!

Wasabi Juan's never disappoints! The freshness & burst of flavors are always on point, & the portions are always just right. The menu is marked gluten free (GF), & there are plenty of apps, burritos, & tacos to choose from. You can order online, & there are two locations + a food truck to satisfy your Mexican/Sushi cravings. Suggestion- Indicate dairy free options on the menu or have a separate menu for dietary restrictions (GF/DF/SF).

Cute intimate restaurant. Reasonably priced. Very unique flavor combinations. Vegetarian options: 1 entree & 5 sides. The nachos had tuna on them. I ate around the tuna. I liked them most. The slaw was not what expected. I expected to taste more mango but barely tasted any. The edamame was as expected slightly spicier than I thought, but my husband liked them. I won't be a regular, but the nachos or edamame would be a good snack while drinking a brew at District.

Our neighborhood has been inviting food trucks to come to the local school to provide options during the COVID 19 pandemic. We've been requesting Wasabi Juan's for a while, and this past week they were finally on the schedule! Yay!! Knowing how much of a demand they were in, I told my husband we needed to get there early/right when they opened. We were the 4th order in line, and by the time we left, the line was wrapped around! Ordering/paying was easy, and given their order demand, I felt they were turning them around at a fair pace. We ordered a lot (for multiple meals)... I got the 420 nachos with chicken for dinner and the cowboy for the next day. The nachos were spot on.. just like I had remembered them! Super filling too! The cowboy was good the next day, and the chips and salsa were spot on! My husband doesn't like salsa, so I got his as well! Yum! Hopefully the truck will be back in Trussville area again soon!

Wasabi Juan's is always delicious! I love the different menu options. I wish there was a little more seating inside but I get it.

Not sure what the big deal is here. Not impressed at all. The salsa was Pace or equivalent. Yuck.

In fact, I'm getting warm feelings right now just thinking about my time here. Their vegan option is a nopal taco (tender, marinated cactus). It's excellent, but what makes it next level is that SALSA BAR with the best salsas I've ever had. It reminds me of taquerias in California. I drowned my taco in all of the sauces. In fact, I could probably be happy eating tortillas and salsa here. Because, yes, the tortillas are that delicious. As is that guac. Again, some of the best I've ever had, gimmicky tableside guac included (never felt that was such a great thing anyway). Here, you get a generous portion of the creamiest quality guac you can imagine. I can't report on the margaritas other than to say they look gorgeous. The wine pours are also generous and the prosecco is damn good.

Also the guacamole, the cheese dip and the tacos. They do have a full bar and can do frozen drinks. I loved that you can add your own toppings to your tacos. The tacos come with just meat. You can add onions, limes, cilantro and pickled onions and pickled jalapeños as well as sauce. They had a Verde sauce as well as regular salsa, and a Salsa Borachja sauce with onion, garlic and Mexican beer. It was spicy and delicious. They have plenty of counter seating, a few tables inside and several tables outside. This is a tapas bar more than a testaurant.

When we got seated outside by the friendly staff, we were given menus and free chips and salsa. As I nibbled on the chips and salsa which were just okay I browsed the drink menu. There's a full bar here and plenty of options. Over the course of the afternoon I tried the Frida's Rita and the wonderful rabbit. Both drinks weren't in your face with the tequila mezcal, they were mixed nicely and had a well rounded flavor. I much preferred the Woderful rabbit though as it tasted less watered down and the ginger beer paired with the mezcal was almost quenching. Overall if you're looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy Mexican cocktails this is a good spot! We did feel rushed to get out of there, and maybe it was because we weren't ordering food. Overall good experience however.

What we ordered: -Taco Salad (added steak) -Shrimp Tacos -Rumba Bowl (added shredded chicken and substituted white rice for Mexican rice) I can only attest to how the Rumba bowl tasted, but everyone's food came out incredibly fast. The bowl was a decent portion. It wasn't a ton of food, but it was the *right* amount of food- a fair serving that I would've made for myself at home. The bowl was good and my friends liked their dishes too. My overall consensus: Frida's is your typical Mexican restaurant. If I lived in this area I may eat here more often, but it's not necessarily something I'm likely to drive too from the outskirts of Hoover. I can probably get slightly cheaper and similar Mexican food closer to home. I'm happy to have tried it!
