Wow, what happened to Mascoutah Steak House? Yesterday we had the worse meal there. They didn't bring all the salad we ordered and the Ribeye steak ordered was not cooked correctly twice. And, the manager didn't seem interested in customer feedback disappearing during this proceds. The most unfortunate thing is they didn't comp the meal but only wanted to send a steak home to- go after all their mistakes and everone else had finshed their meals. I guarantee that will be the last time we visit Mascoutah Steak House. It's sad since it's one of the restaurants I look forward to when visiting the area. But, never again. Customers should leave feedback before the restaurant fails. So sad. read more

​I don't expect a five-star dining experience from a small-town spot, but I do expect basic hygiene and a shred of customer service. Neither was present when a group of six of us dined here yesterday. ​Let's be clear: Mascoutah Steak House is a "steakhouse" that only serves one actual cut of steak (a ribeye--and no, Salisbury steak is not a steak). We already had low expectations. The food itself was mediocre at best. The ribeyes ordered by our group came out looking grey with absolutely zero sear. I ordered the Cali salad; it looked fine, but it had a bizarre, sour flavor that was completely unidentifiable. ​While the food was disappointing, it isn't why I'm writing this review. ​The real issue was the glass of red wine I ordered. As I finished the glass, I discovered a huge fly sitting at the very bottom. I understand things happen, and I wasn't even going to make a scene. When our server took the glass back to the bar, I watched her. She looked into the glass with visible disgust. We made eye contact, and I mouthed to her, "Yeah, I drank out of that." ​Instead of apologizing, addressing the situation, or simply removing the drink from the tab, she avoided our table entirely. When the bill arrived, the wine was still fully charged. ​When I went to the bar to calmly explain the situation to another employee, I was met with total indifference. I was essentially told it wasn't their problem, though they generously offered a insulting 10% discount on the glass. ​This isn't about a $6 glass of wine. It's about basic human decency and food safety. I shouldn't have to argue to get a bug-infused drink taken off my bill. If you value decent food, basic hygiene, and staff that actually cares about their customers, skip this place. read more

Made a return visit today and happy to report they got things right this time. Food and beer was on point. Owner and manager were chatting up the guests. They keep this up and we will be back and recommend others come for a nice dining out experience. read more

Updated Review Had a craving for incredible fried chicken; this establishment serves the absolute best around this neck of the woods! Every table was full, which makes me smile, it being a small town business!! Such a difference in this visit from a few months ago! Our waitress, Lexi, catered to our every whim without hesitation. She was friendly, explained items on the menu, and we had 5 star service from her!!! Every single thing we ordered was cooked to perfection! Fried chicken, moist with crunchy seasoned coating, not greasy at all! We also had top notch, hand breaded mushrooms and zucchini. Wow!! To die for!! Service was great, fast and super friendly. Love the down home, country feel of the restaurant/bar. Fresh bread and butter was great way to start. The homemade lumpia is a must have, so good, and a great surprise to see on the menu. I had the shrimp and lobster scampi, which was good. If I had time to go back I think I would try a steak or the burger. I was too full to have dessert but they looked good. So that you know I'm not a habitual complainer. My wife, myself and her family used to LOVE this place!!! But, Superbowl Sunday and Mother's Day ruined this for us. 1. Superbowl Sunday: We took advantage of the low crowds in the restaurant and celebrated my Mother in Law's birthday. There were 8 of us. The taller young lady was rushing us the second we got seated and during the meal as well. That's all I'll say about that...the real issue was this past: 2. Mother's Day 2024: We took my Mother in Law to MSH and arrived close to 6:45pm. The server was super nice and helpful. This time, it was the food! The first bit of bread was pretty good. The 2nd round for the 3 of us was stale....like "I could sand my deck down with it" stale. We asked her if we could get some fresher bread, and I swear as God as my witness, she said, "I'm sorry we don't have any more bread and this one was actually from yesterday, but they made me bring it out anyway." WOW. Then when my Pork Porterhouse showed up....it was cooked so much, it was LIKE the wood on our deck. It was so white in the middle, it was literally like wood. I couldn't cut it parts. Same server, saying the real truth. She said, "I'm sorry, they always have a hard time with that pork!" So, I ordered a NY Strip instead. That came out raw (Blue). The manager came over, apologized, and had them cook it a bit more which was fine, but it was a really bad cut of meat...gristley and stringy. But, I was too hungry to care at that time. We were offered a dessert to take home. I don't think we will be visiting any day soon sadly.....it really used to be so much better and their Breakfast on the weekend is amazing. The restraunt is decorated to look like an old barn. It's confusing on where to enter as there are two different entrances with saying one way is handicap accessible. Service was just OK. Waitress kept reaching across the round table instead of walking around. We were never asked if we wanted dessert. 2 people in our party got the Prime Rib. They said it just tasted off and wasn't all that great. The pulled pork sandwich, spaghetti, and mac n cheese were enjoyed by my kids. Another got the Champignon Roast with Mushroom Cream Gravy, Spatezle and Red Cabbage. He has assumed it would be a beef roast, but the pork was tender and the Gravy was good. Said the Spatezle lacked flavor, the Cabbage was sour, but delicious. I got the 10 ounce Ribeye, with Fried Bacon wrapped Brussel Sprouts and Loaded Mashed Potatoes( both sides were considered premium and had an added up charge) . The steak was good, and cooked perfectly. The Brussel Sprouts were lacking seasoning and were very mushy. The Loaded Mashed Potatoes were also lacking seasoning, and for the up charge should have had more the 5 little slivers of chopped bacon and a handful of melted Cheddar. We are glad we tried it, but most likely would not recommend or return. read more

We enjoyed our evening at the Mascoutah Steak House. And we enjoyed our meal. It was by no means below average. But I expected better based upon the recommendations I got from Mascoutah residents. Don't go for the ambiance. There really isn't any. Well ... there is a door to nowhere. (See pictures.). So that was unique. But it's about the food. Right? And that's something they have in abundance. The menu stretches from steaks to chicken to pasta to pizza to German. If you can't find something you like here you aren't trying. I had the pasta con broccoli with coral sauce. And it was good. The sauce was very... fluid. That was my only complaint. It was not nearly thick enough. It was good. But wet. Others in our party had spaghetti bolognese, smothered chicken, and the Monday special, flat bread pizza. The only complaint I heard was that the chicken was a bit dry. My friend loved her pizza. The salads that came with the meal was basically C- salad. My wife had roasted pepper soup instead of salad and she said it was very good. Go for the soup. The pre-meal loaf of bread delivered to the table was excellent. There isn't a great variety of restaurants in Mascoutah. Im guessing this one is the top rated restaurant. What a gem!!!! Not from the local area, but stumbled upon this place trying to find a good hometown restaurant that wasn't a chain or fast food. The food was impeccable, the service was top notch, I was absolutely impressed with everything this place had going on. Really wonderful small town feel where everyone clearly knew everyone, but they were very welcoming to an out of towner. I will absolutely be back when I am in town next. read more

A nice place for a family dinner! They were accommodating to my mom's food allergy. My brother had the Jager Schnitzel and loved it! I had the pecan crusted salmon and the glaze sauce was good, not too sweet, and it was perfectly cooked. We both would recommend those dishes to others. The ambiance is not really that awesome but it's I think supposed to replicate a German beer hall perhaps? Not sure but I would go back next time I'm in town. read more

This place has the worst prime rib I have ever had the misfortune of paying for. The meat is pre cooked and packaged before it arrives at the restaurant. It is heated in flavorless au jus so no matter how you order it will be served medium to well done. Our prime rib steaks were served gray in color mushy and without flavor. I requested au jus in hopes of giving the meat some flavor because oddly enough it doesn't come with it no help. The $32 bottle of Merlot I ordered turns out retail for $8. Most restaurants double this one quadruples the cost. The staff were polite and courteous I wish they would just worn you of the disappointment about to be placed in front of you. My wife next birthday will not be celebrated here. I just wish the owners of this place had some remorse for serving such substandard food. What a disappointment. read more

Found this on a whim looking for a steakhouse around Belleville. I wouldnt really call this a "steakhouse". My hubby ordered the prime rib, loaded mash, and corn. He said it was OK- the au jus was good. I ordered the ribeye with bleu cheese and bacon- i ordered it medium. When it came, it was RAW- i sent it back. The soup WAS delicious- very hearty. The brussel sprouts were meh. I was expecting mashed with bacon on top- not whole brussel sprouts wrapped in bacon- which doesnt allow them to cool very well.......... Mascoutah steakhouse...you've outdone yourself. First time eating from here and did not disappoint. Ordered the prime rib special with loaded baked potato and green beans. The steak was cooked grilled medium rare. And boy it was juicy. Very tender and excellent taste. Loved it. Baked potato was good. Green beans were ok. A little bland but who cares. I didn't order for the green beans. They even threw in a half loaf of bread too. Everything together was amazing and it got delivered super fast. Excellent food. Job well done read more

People come on if we just keep accepting everything as status que they will keep hiking up charges. I personally think Mascoutah steak house is mediocre at best. I have been there twice since they moved from main street and was not impressed at all. I will drive to Road House and put up with the noise. Bottom line I tip according to service period. Bad service, bad tip. Great service great tip. And that does not include how long the food takes to arrive because that is not the servers fault it is just how long it takes the food to cook properly. read more

This restaurant has changed hands a couple of times and moved locations from Main Street Mascoutah to a side street near the high school. They serve both steaks and other American food and some German dishes that were their bread and butter in for several years. The location and size of the restaurant are great for parties with a large parking lot and ample room inside. read more

What a pleasant surprise! Tonight was schnitzel Saturday, and it did NOT disappoint!! I had the Jager Schnitzel (mushroom cream sauce) and it was very authentic with spätzle and red cabbage. We started with the pretzels and beer cheese and that was really good too! So many choices on the menu from steaks, to chicken and dumplings, and their German fare. Went in for my first time tonight, it was an absolutely horrible experience. We had to ask another server to get refills and he was extremely rude. The steak was absolutely disgusting, but I went ahead and ate it because being in the military, I have definitely had worse. After I finished, we figured out that the steaks smelled rotten. Another couple had the same issues with their steak as well and didn't have to pay for their steak. Also, we did not dine and dash, we didn't pay for the food that wasn't eaten. I will say the toasted ravioli was good but that is about it. Also to add, the manager wouldn't talk to us and when she finally decided to talk to us she said to have a goodnight. Absolutely no dine and dash involved. Also nobody ate 3/4s of their meal except for me who ate it all. If our server would have returned to check in on us, then the manager would have known sooner. We told our server who didn't seem to care and was also told we could get 10% off the steaks but why should we get that when we said something and the food wasn't eaten? read more

11 years ago today, my husband and I had our first official date on Friday the 13th. Had prime rib at a small mom and pop shop, then drinks with dueling pianos and meeting up with friends later. The original restaurant is closed so we looked for another one. 11 years later, we attempted to partially recreate that night and found a gem of a restaurant! I have been here for lunch and Sunday breakfast. Both times the food was hot and delicious. The dinning room and patio areas are open and pleasant decor. 11 different flavored mimosa's unique and delicious. Well I've tried the passion fruit, prickly Pear, pomegranate , and Mango. One of our favorite places to eat. When the weather is good, we love to eat on the wonderful covered patio with our two dogs! My favorite is the baseball cut steak made "Portuguese" ... topped with an egg and lots of garlic and butter. Add sautéed mushrooms, wash down with a beer: absolutely heavenly! I'm confused about how this has better reviews. The service was great, staff was super friendly. The food was atrocious. The steak was flavorless, the water was yellow, and the baked potato could've been better out of the microwave.
