It's a great spot in a small town serving fantastic food in good portions at amazing prices! When you walk in you can see the care they take in cleaning and polishing everything, so you get a turn of the century vibe and that feeling that it's been around for a long time. Staff immediately seat you with a menu with the usuals for Illinois farm country AND there's always a few fish items of the menu (fish fry every Friday in German Catholic communities!). I stopped I. For lunch and had an amazing Reuben on toasted rye with house chips for $8.95! Perfect size, the meat wasn't fatty, and a surfeit of chips! My companion had their pulled pork on brioche; the sauce was was the right mix of tangy and sweet, and the pork was tender and juicy! (Lots of places have dry pork dressed up with a ton of sauce.) Steaks were perfect, sweet potato too! Green beans were fine, husband liked his asparagus. My husband got the regular salad and it was good but I got the ceaser - it had a lot of the bottom of the stalk in it, not that great. Service was great! Our server was very kind and efficient. Nice date type spot to dress nice and feel fancy but noticed people in more comfortable clothes too. Great portions too. I'll have my steak for two more meals! We'll be back for sure... We went here on a weekend in December, rather than trying to eat in the craziness that is St. Clair County. If you live in O'Fallon/Fairview and haven't ventured east to Clinton County, you're missing out. Trenton House is one of many tasty options. I had the pork tenderloin sandwich. One of the largest pork producers in the world is HQed in Carlyle, which is just down the road. The sandwich was really good. Unfortunately, I didn't get to finish it. My son swapped me halfway through. So, I ate the rest of his burger. It was also excellent! I'd be hard pressed to choose between the two. Service was good. We stumbled on this hidden gem last week and really enjoyed it. It was a bit in the pricey side, but I had a 14 oz ribeye that was perfect and they even cooked it Pittsburgh style for me. It was a $40 steak but melted in my mouth. My fiancée had a huge pork chop with an apple chutney too. Yummm. The flash fried Brussel sprouts were good but a little dry. Great service and the owner roams the room when he's not busy and talks with everyone. I could tell it was mainly locals and we live about 20 minutes from there so...I guess we fit in. Haha. Well i don't know what has happened since our last visit. We went for lunch Sunday and everything we ordered was horrible. The onion rings were pale, almost white, and chewy. I had the potato cheese soup. It had an odd flavor and the potatoes had a strange texture, like I've never tasted before. Meatloaf was very bland. Corn was straight out of a can and had zero flavor. A friend had a pork chop and it was greasy and probably undercooked. Another friend had the tortellini with chicken. Tortellini was bright yellow and overcooked. Chicken looked odd and greasy. I guess I could chalk it up to a bad day, but I'm not sure w Ed want to go back and see. read more

But at this restaurant, the owner is an absolute terror. He's mean to his employees-literally yelled at his own employees in front of us, for making some silly mistake that didn't even matter (like they forgot a napkin or something). And apparently the townspeople say this is something that happens often!! WHAT!? I thought my life in LA was a movie, but I guess mine's sorely lacking if this type of thing happens in real life. Because, let me tell you, it was the craziest thing I've seen in real life, I mean seriously?? Treat other people with respect--especially women you jerk--like hellooo it's 2022. Hubby and I were heading to Breese, to see a play. Trenton House seemed like it might be a happy medium between Wally's and Popeye's. We both enjoyed our meal VERY much. I had a Bloody Mary to start with, which wasn't fancy, but was tasty. We ordered the BBQ Shrimp appetizer. The flavor was good, though it didn't seem BBQ flavored to me. We decided to split the Grilled Sea Scallops meal. That included a salad, a HUGE sweet potato, and mixed vegetables (zucchini or squash?). Everything was very good and this was PLENTY of food! Tthere were those bread rolls with the AWESOME flavored butter too! Price-wise, much easier to take than Popeye's and the food variety was definitely higher quality than Wally's. My family went to Trenton House for Thanksgiving for a 3:00pm reservation. We were seated immediately and our drink order was taken as we were seated. The drinks arrived promptly and they were ready for our order. Even though the restaurant was packed, the food arrived way before I was expecting it. I orders the pecan encrusted tilapia, which was excellent. It came with the best sweet potato fries I've ever eaten. They were wide flat crinkle-cut fries that had a satisfying crunch which is difficult to do. The cherry pie was a nice finisher. All the while I was able to look at Trenton House's nostalgic decor, pictures, photographs, and furnishings that invoke a sense of timelessness. We stumbled upon this place after the Chophouse was overbooked. We were seated right away and our server came by a few minutes later. We ordered drinks, from a small but distinguished wine list. The Caymus was delicious. We also ordered our salads, which were great. It was the Trenton salad. Then for our entrees we both ordered steaks, me the filet and him the ribeye both served with your choice of potatoes. They were perfectly cooked and we were both really happy with our selections. Overall it was a great dinner, but we didn't have room for dessert. If you're out that way, i highly recommend the Trenton House! read more

First time here. Came for Valentines date with my husband. We love Popeyes so decided to give this one a try because we heard they were sisters. We had the Thursday prime rib special for two. I ordered prime rib med rare and on first look it seemed to be just right but when I cut into it it was not med rare. It was very pink on top but had been grilled on a flat top on the bottom so that it was brown:(. It totally changed the texture. Prime rib should melt in your mouth. That being said, my spinach salad was great, the asparagus were grilled perfectly and the service was good for a special night. We would definitely try again but would not order the prime rib. read more

Has been a couple years since I've been back to this restaurant, I was visiting family. My cousin ordered a chicken sandwich and I the pork shank dinner. Both chicken and shank were over cooked.. the shank to the point that it was dry with a crust. The chicken needed a steak knife to cut. My order was also incorrect. I ordered the creamed spinach along with the shank. Mash potatoes and some over cooked mixed veggies were added. Very disappointing. My other guest ordered hamburgers with fries and onion rings, both looked appetizing. read more

I was at the Trenton House over the holidays for a holiday party. There were approx. 50 in our group. I arrived a little too late to try out the appetizer station they had set up. the restaurant was packed as well. For dinner we had 6-7 choices. I picked the Prime Rib, most others at my table picked steak (Sirloin I think?). Usually with lots of plates to fill like that, the food isn't going to be all that, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Prime Rib was excellent, had a good horseradish dip with it, and a baked potato I think (can't remember the sides bc I liked the main best). For dessert we were again given options... turtle cheesecake or red velvet cake. I got the red velvet and it was good but not great (wasn't cream cheese frosting). The only thing that was really strange and sort of bad about the night there was the mix-up in drink orders. I ordered a cranberry vodka and a friend did as well, they looked like 2 totally different drinks. Later a friend ordered a dirty martini and got what we thought was a glass of olive juice. Then he ordered burbon, but they brought him gin. Since it was a company dinner and it was their drink tickets we didn't really care, but I'm not sure if that was a mix up between the wait staff or bartenders. Wait staff were attentive and quick for refills and taking plates, though! Either way I want to go back now and have a 'regular' dinner there! Oh - the parking is strange.. in the small town of Trenton this place gets packed and all the street parking is taken, plan to walk a little if you go on a busy night. read more

Every time I come here I leave full and extremely satisfied. They have a long list of specials daily as well as a menu full of fantastic selections. The Memphis Nachos appetizer is amazing. Usually you end up with a lot of chips with no toppings left. Here I was left with a ton of pulled pork and cheese after all the nachos were gone. A great steakhouse hidden in a small town. Their steaks are all very good. Their sides are ample and usually include baked potato, veggies and fresh rolls. It's a pleasant surprise to get such a well prepared steak in such an out of the way location. The decor and ambiance makes you think Elliot Ness is going to come walking through the door any second. We have been coming to the Trenton House now for 15 years for our annual Employee Christmas Party. Todd and his staff are great and we get excellent service. They are equipped to handle a large group. We generally do appetizers to start off, (Wings, toasted ravioli, mushrooms or onion rings) and then we have 3-4 entrees that our employees can pick from. Our employees always love this event and the Trenton House makes it extra special with their cozy atmosphere. You can't go wrong! read more

I love the Trenton House. Great service, full bar, great prices and decent food. The burgers are too well-done for my liking, but they taste real. I love the big steak fries and the onion rings are the size of a spare tire. The atmosphere is family friendly, but still upscale considering the location. Trenton is not an upscale kind of place. But the tin ceiling and the massive mohagony bar add some character. Why anyone would go to Applebees when you can go to a place like this - and spend less money! - is beyond me. read more

Great Family dining restaurant. Although I'm partial to my home town, I just haven't been able to find the same service anywhere else! They have excellent specials and I love the Salmon although my steak lover family prefers the skirt-steak. They have a full service bar, and an excellent desert menu. I would highly recommend asking for Liz to be your server. She's great, and Todd, the owner, is very personable. From the outside it looks like a cheap diner, but on the inside it is beautiful and elegant and also has a private room for up to 100 which is perfect for a small wedding. The food is very very good and the service is up to par for fine dining. Their menu is ambitious and very well presented. The beautiful wood bar is breathtaking as is the rest of the well-appointed restaurant. You can't go wrong here--from a casual dinner to a fine dining experience it's a great place! read more
