For several years, I have been delighted with Mason Clinic and every person on its staff. My recent and terrible experience is the exception. I am a fit and trim male, 71 years old. Just over a month ago, there was sudden appearance of a painful lump just under the nipple in my right breast. It was causing visible projection of the nipple area (creating a very unwanted feminine appearance even under clothing) and made even turning over in bed difficult. Rather than waiting for an appointment, I went into Mason's walk-in clinic for immediate attention. Knowing cancer was a possible cause, I hoped for immediate needle biopsy, but procedures required interim diagnostic steps (mammography and ultrasound) which ended up consuming most of a month before the cancer scare was eliminated. Anticipating that result (and in extreme anxious to address what I correctly guessed would prove to be plain gynecomastia), I had in advance asked Dr. Soha to be poised, once that result came in, to rapidly address the gynecomastia issue (I loathe each and every day of living with this condition). I was expecting: (a) referral for surgical removal of the mass; and (b) a lab order for hormonal testing, given the absolute fact that my condition is likely caused by a hormonal imbalance. Just as soon as the result was posted (last Friday), I again messaged Dr. Soha, reminding of my request for rapid action. He ignored me. I called staff and they messaged him, relaying my request for attention. Notwithstanding repeated requests, he continued to ignore until, in a message last Tuesday, I complained, saying that it felt like he was deliberately ignoring me. He replied the next morning, condescendingly claiming otherwise, telling me a whole series of things he knows I already know, and still failed to take any action. He said he'd "be happy" to send the referral for possible surgery (why did he not just do it?), but outright refused to make the lab order. His claimed basis is that the finding of no cancer makes such testing unnecessary -- notwithstanding that, in fact, hormonal imbalance is specifically indicated as the likely cause of such late-onset benign gynecomastia as I've encountered. I replied back to Soha requesting, yes, by all means, please proceed with the surgical referral (just as I'd already repeatedly requested). He did not reply, and instead had his assistant call me to setup an appointment for over one month from now. So far as I can determine, it appears Soha is determined to delay any further action until after that appointment -- if he'll even grant it then. I feel like he is being purposely obstructive and dilatory. I can only speculate that perhaps he is offended when a patient seeks to aggressively manage his own care, but I've had it with Soha. Both my wife (who has likewise had unhappy experiences with Soha) and I have sought assignment to a different physician. We prior had a physician and PA at Mason who we very much liked. Any issue like this with either of them would have been unthinkable. read more

I've been to this hospital twice and both times felt my family received a high level of care. My family member was having a health scare last night and we rushed them to the emergency room here at Mason General. From the time we arrived until the time we left, I felt like we received a high level of care from professionals who were great to us. Everyone from the nurses, to the technical professionals who drew blood, operated the X-Ray and EKG machines to our doctor were excellent, caring and nice to us. I was extremely thankful for the level of care we received last night. I would like to specifically mention Dr. Ross who took great care of my family member and was excellent helping us through a difficult situation. I'd also really like to highlight our main nurse who was excellent and really helped us through this situation. My family member has notorious problems taking blood draws and our nurse nailed it on the first try perfectly, one of the most impressive things I've seen in a hospital. I'm sorry I didn't get his name but he was excellent. Thank you Mason General, we appreciate you very much. read more

Nurse practitioner did not listen. Went in for a sinus infection. I explained I have Chronic Sinusitis and have had numerous sinus infections and I know when I have one. I tried to give her a little history and she did not listen. She didn't check me out and then prescribed me meds for the nausea I DID NOT HAVE. Long 2 hour wait for nothing and left with no paperwork. At Providence Urgent care I get discharge papers noting the visit. I was disappointed and hoping for a good experience. I will say the clinic is lovely and reception competent. read more

The ER has always had issues. These ongoing hanging participles are never addressed by the commissioners or the CEO. The clinic on the other hand does better but still has room for improvement read more

If you live near MGH please keep going to Olympia to St. Pete's. After my wife's ER visit, we did everything they instructed us to do. Then they left us high and dry by sending a bill to collections that was uncalled for. Inproper guidance, bad information, bad communication. We did everything they asked for. Now they shrug it off. MGH mission statement should be 'We destroy lives!' Just don't go there! I would rather die while in route to another hospital. I have busted my butt to pay bills and be honest and have done a magnificent job. On a positive note though, the food in the cafeteria is great! read more

ER department is a joke; prescribing medication without even looking at the chart. Had they looked at the chart, they would have known not to prescribe the medicine they did. We don't have to wait for my family member to die, we can just let MGH assist. I have been sent home from the ER with a prescription bottle labeled for a Virginia. My son was left to wait in the ER waiting room for 4 hours, after being there earlier in the day having glass removed from his head and a 3" gash through his face that took 24 stitches to close. ER said to come back if his face was getting worse. He was in incredible pain with a VERY swollen face. He sat there 4 hours before leaving because he wasn't being seen. Billing tries to double bill you for "care" you've received and already paid for. It would be different if this happened just once, but it happens over and over; sometimes for services years' old. Oops, they "accidentally" billed Medicare twice. Blah blah blah. How much has MGH made off patients that don't realize MGH's "mistake". Referrals are never sent. Even getting an appointment is ridiculous. Orders are not dispatched to the lab. Our GP is great and MGH staff are great (except for a few ER doctors). MGH drops the ball so much, they'd perform poorly as a team. Oh wait. read more

If you are one minute late for an appointment they will TURN YOU AWAY! Regardless of the importance of your visit, your current health status, or physical ability to get from the parking lot to the building. !! PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES BEWARE !! I was recently turned away from an important visit. The person at the desk said "Your appointment was at 2:00 and you pulled a ticket at 2:02". She did not offer to reschedule. Her demeanor was cold. I would have liked to get a flu shot as well. I hope I don't get sick(er). read more

I am a veteran, so all the appointments have to be approved. Unfortunately, MG isn't equipped to deal with the VA. My experience there has been an ongoing nightmare. And I can't go back to the VA for care, because I've been authorized for Community Care because I live so far away in Shelton. read more

BEWARE - Before scheduling a visit at this Clinic!! My appointment at the Mason Clinic in Shelton WA was on June 2025. I was charged a $25 Co-pay for seeing my new in Network Primary Care Physician which took 6 months to get scheduled. After returning home I realized there was no Co-pay for seeing my new in Network Primary Care Physician. I called the clinic to get my refund and was caught in their voice mail hell system, unable to reach anyone to help me . A few days later I called my insurance carrier and it was confirmed there was no Co-pay fee. The gal that helped me placed me on hold as she contacted the Mason Clinic accounting department and after speaking with a gentleman at the department she included me into the three way call. I was told by the gentleman at the accounting department that they didn't do refunds and there was nothing that could be done for me. When I mentioned I would dispute the $25 credit card charge he agreed that it was a good idea. This man was not professional by any means and didn't really seem to care that the check-in system the clinic has in place is broken. At this point it isn't so much about the $25 which I have disputed with my credit card company, it's about the lack of quality service and no refund policy the clinic has in place. read more

My husband had a seizure and we were brought in by paramedics and the nurses had me leave him to "check him in" nobody talked to me while I was waiting and nobody kept me updated. When I was finally let back he had just been sitting in a room with no care so far. With seizures you lose muscle function so obviously he was weak after on top of being given drugs to stabilize him- after labs they gave him discharge papers and said "okay you're good to go" no unclipping of wires and no bandages for the IV pokes. NO WHEELCHAIR which is pretty standard especially after loss of consciousness and IV drugs... obviously no care and just throwing people out. Idk just crazy to me that my husband had to literally stumble out of the ER???? read more

What a wonderful gift shop! The volunteers, Patty and Linda, there were ever so helpful! I wanted to send a little, "thinking of you", gift from out of town. The nice ladies were so helpful letting me know what they had in stock. The ladies were able to run my card there. They even put the gift into a gift bag and hand deliver it to my friend's room! The one thing that MGH is good at is separating their patients from their money. The billing dept is a joke. They go out of their way to make their billing as complicated as possible, including billing for services already paid for. If you happen to have used more than one insurance provider, it puts them into total disarray, and you will have to do their job for them to sort it out. You will show up on time for your appointment, check in at the front desk (after taking a number), then wait (and wait) at the appropriate area for a nurse who will then escort you to a private room where you will wait (and wait) to see your physician. While health care in general is expensive these days, your doctor appointment will be very expensive. Any lab work will be very expensive. Any radiology will be very expensive. They will be more than happy to put you on a payment plan, while inundating you with the most confusing bills that even Einstein would be frustrated. This is a greedy, greedy establishment with shady billing practices that will routinely push for you to be provided services you don't really need. Avoid MGH at all costs. read more

What a joke. This place is awful. The awful patient care started at check in with the extremely rude person behind the plexiglass. She definitely shouldn't be working with the public. Maybe a work from home job that doesn't deal with the public. I avoid this place if at all possible. unfortunately my children's Dr came here. Two stars just because I didn't die. I had an accidental overdose Monday night. I dreamed I hadn't taken my pills and, in that somnambulistic state, downed the first container i grabbed -- which had all my pain pills. Immediately woke completely, tried to induce vomiting with no luck, called Poison Control who said call 911 and I will say those EMTs were terrific. Got to the ER and was given more charcoal solution to chug, got into a gown, was hooked up to monitors, and an IV. Here's where it went sideways in a weird way. The staff seemed nice enough, although there were lots of "sweeties" and such, which is actually infantilizing language used with elders on the assumption that we're toddlers again. As the mental fog thickened, my heart rate and oxygen saturation started to drop. At the lowest, my heart rate was 47 and O2 sats were 87 -- both dangerous. The first few times, they checked but after that, nobody did. It was then that the reality sank in that I would have to save myself. So I used all my strength of will to listen for the alarms, to check the numbers and counter the problem -- vigorously moving to increase my heart rate and taking hyperoxegenating breaths to bring the O2 levels at least into the 90s. Having survived the night mostly due to my own efforts, a nurse came in and in tones of utmost indifference told me I could go now. When I stopped to thank the nursing staff, they could barely be bothered to acknowledge the thanks. I was turfed out unceremoniously -- none of the usual wheelchair to the door, no "so glad you made it." Just indifference overlaid with shades of "go away." My takeaway from this attitude was that they didn't believe that it truly was an accident. I am not an addict and never have been. No, I am a retired computer programmer and current columnist living in a nice house in a good neighborhood -- not that any of that should matter. It felt as if they saw me as some drugged out old bat who was just lying about it. More importantly, though, was that they stopped checking when the alarms went off. What if I hadn't had such strength of will and became completely unconscious and couldn't do what I did to save myself? How would they have explained that to my grieving family? As it was, I toddled my still somewhat wobbly way out and caught the taxi the young woman called for me before behaving as if my brief attempts at basic friendliness were an undue burden. Had I been able to go to an Olympia hospital, I most certainly would have and I will make sure that I only go back if essentially moribund and unable to tell people to, for the love of mercy, not take me there! And no, I don't want to discuss it as clearly the slough of horrifying reviews from years back demonstrates that they have no interest in improving. read more

Granted this is how he was trained in western medicine however he will not think out of that box. I came from Olympia to Shelton for back surgery. There was a lot of paper work, since I was never here before. Long story for not using Olympia hospitals. All of the nursing, Dr and food service were exceptional. Gave me clear information and answered all my questions. They were all personable, professional and supportive. If you have a choice go to MGH. By the way food was good. read more

Extorted by my Dr. for an annual blood test, I went to visit our new Mason Clinic that our property taxes pay for. When I finally had my number called my care worker, KIM, was very easily distracted. When I asked KIM to "please focus" she refused me the service I require for my 5 medications. In short, always use the emergency room, not the Mason clinic. The worst hospital to go to if your in pain! They only care if something is broke otherwise they act like your faking it. Especially if your a person of color! They are mostly lazy racist Caucasian staff. Brought my son in who hurt himself at church camp, he's autistic so he's a little uncoordinated and clumsy and can't really verbalize where the pain is just that it hurts. The nursing staff talked AT him and didn't wait for his response and made it seem like he was lying about being hurt. After the scans we asked the nurse to talk to the doctor. The nurse couldn't find the doctor after coming in the room twice. She had attitude and huffed and puffed when we asked her questions. She said she didn't know where he was but she's just going to wrap his foot. My husband asked her to be gentle when wrapping my sons foot in bandages and she yelled at my husband that "I'm not" then he told her why are you yelling at me and she said "I'm not yelling I said it with a smile." Her name was NAT. This is THE worst nursing staff I've ever had to encounter. I will drive an hour to Olympia from now on even if I'm dying. Just stay away if your any color other than blonde hair blue eyes! read more

This place doesn't listen to their patients. My doctor is dr. Heung and he didn't bother to tell me 2 years ago that I had a kidney stone the size of my left kidney. He waited 2 years to get me a x ray for my back pain and the x ray dept. called a said I needed to go to a urologist stat because of the size of the stone. I did the performed 3 procedures on me to get it out of me. My doctor never said he didn't realize I had it done until I told him and his response was well I guess they took care of it. I was fortunate to be able to see a highly qualified Doctor of Osteopatic Medicine who took my urine sample and diagnosed me with a urinary tract infection. Later, after taking what she prescribed I was much better, no pain, no back ache, no strong smelling urine plus I was feeling much better, thanks to her. read more

Do not recommend taking anyone you care about to the ER here. During an ER visit for my 6 year old daughter, the receptionist said she could be seen after taking a urine sample. Being that I brought her here for excessive vomiting and being dehydrated, I asked them for a cup of water so she could get something in her bladder. They told me no they will not provide water and that we need to buy water from the vending machine(keep in mind I explained the situation for what it was). I didn't bring my wallet by accident and I figured having medical coverage that covers the entire ER bill, they would provide me with anything needed to move along the process of being seen/treated. I was completely wrong. After calling her mother with the problem, she brought her bottled water from home and inquired why they didn't provide their patients with water. They responded that they do not provide water to any patients that have been vomiting. The weirdest part about the whole experience is that when I took my son in 3 days ago for illness related to vomiting, the first thing they offered was water for him? 4 hours in and she was able to produce urine sample after having water delivered. We continue to wait to be seen as I type this review but I can say that it is much, much, much better to drive 30 mins farther to avoid the poor care this Hospital provides. read more

Denying access to my husband who is in private room day after surgery at 9 am. Complaint against Jacky the front receptionist Complaint against Megan, charge nurse at the Medical Surgical Unit. My husband had back surgery and he was expected to go home 9 am the next day. I drove to hospital to visit and help with his needs as I am RN and will be his care provider. When I try to visit, the front receptionist name "Jacky" act like all patients are in jail. She refuse to allow me to visit my husband. Jacky has authoritarian demeanor, tone, attitude that does not value family and lack listening. When I ask to speak with charge nurse from Medical Surgical unit, Jacky's response is "she is going to tell you the same thing?" and reluctantly calls the charge nurse on Medical Surgical Unit, and Megan the charge nurse said "NO" and telling receptionist that NO and DENY access to my husband. Megan did not take time to speak with me. I had to elevate to house supervisor to get access to my husband who was to be discharge that morning. Later, I went to nurse's station and I talked with Megan who is charge nurse, and she was rude, had bad attitude, and, unwelcoming and unpleasing personality, rude tone about having spouse visit after surgery. I did not feel it was positive working or welcoming environment that was created by the charge nurse, Megan. I felt Megan was cold and callus. I did not feel Megan value or had any understood the value having spouse present after surgery. Megan had authoritarian style demeanor and was argumentative and telling me that spouse has NO ACCESS in a private room before patient is discharge until visiting hours. She clearly lack understanding the value of spouse and relationship. For Megan and Jacky I would give 0 star. However, I gave 3 star due to fact the primary RN, house keeper, supervisor, and nutrition department and care was wonderful. I like to see some positive changes in how staff treat family members that is more friendly and welcoming. My husband was in a private room and no reason for the charge nurse Megan to be so cold and callus. I would not recommend Megan to be charge nurse as she does not create positive working relationship or environment. I did leave a message to Carol Williamson for her to call me with concern of Megan who is charge nurse at the Medical Surgical unit. As a charge nurse, I would never treat family member in a cold and callus denying access to spouse during post op on discharge day. With supervisor help, I was able to access my husband. I have grave concern that this hospital put receptionist like Jacky and Megan who lacks value of spouse access after surgery on discharge day. read more

I had a lab draw 1/25/24 at Mason Clinic in Shelton and the person doing the blood draw when done I asked like other times no band aid since my skin is really sensitive to them and this time she replied " the wrap has adhesive too that's how it sticks" so feeling very uncomfortable with her comment I said "ok then give me a band aid" and she proceeded to put the wrap on. Extremely unfriendly and in my opinion EXTREMELY RUDE!! Hope next time I go to the Lab I don't have her taking my blood. read more

We have been here several times, the exception being that today was terrible. And would recommend seeing anyone except Dr. Heartline. In April, just as the vaccines were becoming available for general use, I contracted COVID-19 - I had scheduled for the vaccine, but was too late. I went in to Mason General ER, and the intake person berated me for being there. She told me that I should be ashamed for spreading COVID there. I was masked up, and there for HELP. The doctor gave me a saline drip and sent me home. Had I listened to the woman at intake, I wouldn't have gone in. That might have been okay, for all the good it did me. A few days later, I ended up in ICU at Capital Hill Medical center and was there for 8 days. It was a close call. Mason General has still never put me in contact with their patient advocate. The head of billing was glad to call me back, but I asked to, and attempted to call numerous times, speak with a patient advocate. Who else was shamed into not seeking help at the ER? Did anyone die? I wasn't going to pay until I spoke to a patient advocate. I still haven't spoken to one, but my bill is in collections with a huge markup. Don't go to Mason General. Call an ambulance and go anywhere else. read more

I had bad experiences with this Hospital & some Doctors who left me with serious health issues. After dialysis in Olympia i was taken to MGH they destroyed my clothing, I am a senir citizen & handicapped, when I asked what they had found they told me NOTHING, when I asked if they coild help me with transportation they refused to help, it wa such when I asked for a bed pen, they told me you already wt your pants, I had to wear some paper wear and walked from MGH to the other end of town to get my car and I fell a few times. When I asked the PM & MGH personal who 'd pay for destroying my clothes ... they played stupid and they had the audacity to ask me If I join them . now I have a warning for the WSP Troopers NOT to take me to MGH nor the Silverdale Hosp. as they are just as bad. We pay taxes to feed these leaches and after that they send you a BIG BILL, Stay AWAY from MGH. one star is too much for these unprofessional & incompetent people. read more

If I had been correctly informed rather than scared into a long stay I would have been out next day! I will never go there again!! I have now been given the generic response. My bill was 40k for staying 4 days with antibiotics in an IV. I was charged 15k for a room! I disputed this because I thought it was fraudulent. I was NOT diagnosed with accute appendicitis! I was told by the ER doctor if he operated I could end up with a colostomy bag! I have talked to multiple health care providers who stated the procedure should have been simple and I would have been out next day! They abused me, my trust and my insurance! If someone at Mason is actually reading this, then give me a number to call to discuss this further. read more

I would take yourself or any loved one to any other hospital first, before this one. This hospital has no specialists and they would not even call in for a specialist when my loved one was fighting for his life. My loved one was neglected at this hospital and the Dr's would not give treatments the patient asked for and gave the patient medication that he specifically said NOT to give him. The Dr's hardly came by, the nurses did everything and the Dr's were cold as ice. read more

Save time and suffer in the comfort of your own home! I would recommend driving to another state before I would recommend this place! If you're on your death bed, just go ahead and meet your maker, it's the better option than going here. We were pretty much there ALL day and ALL night, just to be told to go home because they didn't know why my son had a temperature of 105. Told us to come back, if it got worse! The way the nurse treated my son was the WORST bedside manner I had ever seen. I told her my son's fever had spiked, and he was starting to get delirious, and she told me that he DID NOT have a fever, yet when I demanded she take his temp again, it was back up to 104.5. They should pay us for the waste of our time. Thankfully the Children's Hospital in Tacoma had staff that figured out he had a bone infection. read more

Billing dept not good. I was working with them on fixing bills and making payments. When I did make payments all of them they still sent my bill to collections saying they never received it. Yet I got credit cards that say they did get paid. Where is my money then.. time to get a lawyer and sort this out read more

My baby was born with a SERIOUS life long birth defect that went undiagnosed my entire pregnancy. How this happened I don't know. I had polyhydraminos that wasn't descovered until I was in labor and my water broke which is what made that obvious. This should be easily detected by drs. My baby was missing almost half of her small intestines, had meconium leaking into her abdominal cavity and was septic and had to be life flighted to Seattle children's as soon as she was born. This could have all been avoided and now my baby has to live with this for the rest of her life, I can't work anymore,she won't ever be able to go to school or daycare Because of this. Had they diagnosed this I would have had the chance to make an informed decision about my pregnancy or at the very least been able to be prepared for this. Instead they acted like this happened overnight and there was no way they could have know this was coming. I don't believe that. The x-rays they took of my baby when she was born prove that. I am seeking legal action. Don't get your prenatal care here, I could have gone anywhere else and this would have been diagnosed and avoided this nightmare for both myself and my daughter. The hospital nurses where very nice and the Dr that delivered her did nothing wrong. It was the woman that I had doing my prenatal care/ultrasound technicians that missed this. It's the little things that can't seem to accomplish. Took three calls to get them to call in prescription. Three months after first shingles vaccine they still had not updated National vaccine registry so almost impossible getting the second shingles shot anywhere but at their office. Not sure if it's all of the doctors and their individual staff or just mine. Not very professional. read more
