AVOID MASS MASONRY & STONE AT ALL COSTS!!!! These guys lie and cheat to get business. DO NOT TRUST THEM. Beware!!! John Ford is the manager of this operation and he will tell you whatever you want to hear in order to secure your business. That includes misinformation (lies!!). My elderly parents were manipulated and signed a contract based on an agreement with John. They trusted him and were let down. Mass Masonry & Stone (MMS) uses a MA Contractor's License that DOES NOT belong to them. According to public record and MMS marketing materials (flyer, website), MA license #192910 belongs to Miguel Reascos, who is NOT affiliated with this business. Miguel, the owner of MMS, is a FRAUD and has stolen someone else's information. The work done by Miguel (owner) and John's crew is incomplete. The work quality is poor as puddles can now be seen in a freshly paved driveway. Corners were cut and the results are glaring. In addition, it is worth noting that both Miguel and John Ford have very bad tempers. I experienced this directly, as did my parents, and my uncle. Their lack of professionalism is appalling, and an embarrassment to anyone in the Boston business community. Both are disrespectful, aggressive, uncouth, and vile. Aside from the behavioral issues, Mass Masonry & Stone did not properly complete the project. The work was faulty (see pictures) and needs to be redone. The primary issues with Mass Masonry & Stone: 1. Poor work quality 2. Incomplete work. Mass Masonry & Stone did not compete the agreed to work in the contract. Asphalt was laid and all other steps were not completed (includes 6" of modified stone, 2" binder blacktop, overlay driveway, fill major cracks, compression of all edges at 45%, etc.) 3. Defective work. After less than 2 weeks of the work being done there are puddles in the driveway. AFTER ONLY 2 WEEKS!!! (see pictures) 4. Payment. My parents wanted to use a check and MMS would ONLY ACCEPT CASH PAYMENT. It was expected that THOUSANDS of dollars would be paid in cash. Not check. Not money order. Not credit card. CASH. Additional Issues: 1. CHILD ENDANGERMENT. On the day the primary work was done, Mass Masonry & Stone had a 9 year old child on site near hazardous materials. This is unsafe and there are child protection and labor laws that have been violated. 2. Continuous LIES. It's become too hard to keep track of the lies, but I have text messages that show much of the misinformation that was shared. 3. TAX FRAUD. When a business demands cash payment you have to wonder about issues like TAX EVASION. 4. THREATS for bad reviews. Threats that insinuate harm by Miguel Reascos (owner), and the families of Miguel Reascos and John Ford. The threats were made by Miguel Reascos via text messages. These messages have been shared with the police. John Ford has also threatened me. Those have also been shared with the police. 5. Ongoing INTIMIDATION. John Ford has shown up at my parent's home after being told not to go anywhere near them or their property. My elderly father has asked John directly to leave them alone. 6. ILLEGAL BUSINESS OPERATIONS. The address for this business is in the projects of South Boston according to the Boston Police Department. This causes additional concern as government housing (BHA) is not to be used for business operations. I do not want anyone else to be treated poorly or tricked into doing business with John Ford, Miguel Reascos (owner), and Mass Masonry & Stone. NOTE: I originally wrote this review in June 2019. I was contacted by Mass Masonry & Stone and asked to take the review down, and they asked to be given an opportunity to fix the issues. Mass Masonry & Stone also offered financial compensation to my parents (my parents nor I asked for this). I agreed and then they started playing games. After weeks of dealing with their nonsense, and after giving them many chances to correct their wrongdoing, I have no choice other than to expose them. I have voicemail messages and hundreds (HUNDREDS!!) of text messages from both John and Miguel which I will not share here due to the graphic nature of some of the content. What I will share is that Miguel Reascos of South Boston, MA and John Ford of Dorchester, MA have THREATENED ME. I have taken the appropriate steps to protect myself, my family, and our properties (surveillance, etc.). I will continue to address this matter through formal and proper channels. To anyone who is considering Mass Masonry & Stone, please protect yourselves. The work quality is terrible, the business practices are fraudulent. If you complain, they will threaten you and show up at your home to enforce their intimidation tactics. If any harm is caused to me, my family, or our properties, then Miguel (owner) and John Ford (manager) of Mass Stone Masonry should be considered persons of interest and the likely culprits. read more

I reached out to these guys with yelp, in order to get a quote for my condo building. They were the first out to get us a quote and were also quick to get it to us, which is very rare! The price was very fair, too. They were able to start work almost immediately, which again is very rare. They finished the hard concrete work in repairing the facade and the stairs in less than 2 days, which is a big deal because you need to use stairs. We also ran into an issue where the color didn't match the neighbor's stoop, which had me worried because I've had negative experiences in the past. With MASS masonry, this was no issue and they came back and knocked it out of the park! I met John after checking out a job he was doing in the neighborhood that looked great. I asked him to come by and take a look at my stairs. The problem, the stairs were uneven, and the top step was much higher than the rest. John and I talked about the project, he had me pick out the type of stone I wanted, we worked out a fair price, and John told me it would take three days. I was very impressed with the skill and speed in which his team worked. In three short days they rebuilt the steps and you can see how beautiful they look. Before they could get the rails up my neighbors were impressed and I had a couple of people stop and asked who did the work. I just had my front entrance steps and back yard asphalt done this week by Mass Masonry and Stone. They are very professional and easy to deal with. They use less than a week to finish the two projects and did a beautiful job. John also offered me a good discount since I let them put their company sign in my front yard. I will happy to hire them again for future jobs, but since they have 5 years guarantee service I guess I won't see them in a while :) read more

I was looking for some work to be done on my property. I call John and came out the same day and give me a quote.

Putting aside emotions dealing with John, I will try to present only facts. In general, they build a reasonably good retaining wall. But the amount of unfinished work created during this constriction will require now a lot of efforts to complete. They dropped so much dirt and stones in our swimming pool. They convinced me that the wall next to the stairs would look okay but it doesn't. My friends who saw it said it is definitely unfinished (actually they used much stronger words, which I don't want to write here). To be fair to John, he said he would try to finish this wall. However, after my request to send the final receipt (which he had promised multiple times), he yelled at me that it was a cash prize and no receipt should be sent, and suggested never call him back. An hour later he sent me an SMS requiring stop putting "pressure on him" and promised to drop the receipt in my mailbox. This never materialized. So I assume that I have to finish the wall by myself or hire someone to do that. To summarize, these are the positive and negative about this contractor are as follows. Pros: They built a reasonably good retaining wall, though they haven't finished it to my opinion (you to judge - see the pictures attached), this is relatively minor. Cons: - John promises a lot of things that he forgets immediately. I recommend putting everything in writing if you decide to deal with him. For example, although he told me and my wife that he would take money only after everything is complete, he managed to squeeze more than 60% of the total sum from me in the middle of the work. He motivated it by spending too much on recycling of our old lumber (I thought that he would be thankful that because we agreed to keep almost half of the lumber with us for our future works). - It took a while in 10 phone calls before they removed the garbage. He was cynically frank saying that they didn't have time because they were working on other projects. In the end I was so tired, so we decided to finish with him and clean the rest by ourselves. - The work was done near the swimming pool. There were extremely inaccurate and dropped a lot of dirt and stones in the swimming pool. It is a substantial work to clean the pool now. The stones are a serious issue because they can start in the vacuum pipes during cleaning. - Despite multiple communications not to do so, they dropped a lot of stone blocks on concrete plates near the pool, which protect the piping. I feel we may have leakage now in the pipes. I do see some unusual behavior or the water level. I will see it more clearly after cleaning the pool (still ongoing). - At the end, it turned out that John meant cash price when we negotiated the cost. He never told me that until the payment was requested. Moreover, I almost twisted his hand to sign a final receipt which I had to write by myself. Despite all his promises, he never sent me the final official receipt. Moreover, even said by phone that cash price meant no receipts! - The price was higher than the other contractor quoted us. John convinced me that they would do stone wall when the other guys quote the concrete block wall. But it turned out John meant concrete blocks which were "stone like". When I found out that, it was already too late - they already removed the old wood wall. I okayed it because John promised 15 years warranty. Based on the above, I seriously hesitate it will ever be granted. - John saved on renting a portable toilet. So we got all remote corners of our backyard pissed. - They disassembled or damaged stairs. I agree it was very hard to keep them because part of it was rotten wood; but the amount of work now required to change it is substantially higher because they complete a removed one stairs - I was foolishly agreed to let them do that - and almost destroyed the other. As I see now, a good portion of the removed lumber was good, even has labels with lifetime warranty on it.. read more

I called John at MASS masonry when I needed my sidewalk replaced. The existing sidewalk was level with the street and I was getting a lot of water in my basement when it rained. John really listened to my concerns and walked me through his plan. He knew I wanted the sidewalk to be as high as possible while still being able to drive over it. It was a challenging job, but John and his crew were pros, and the sidewalk came out great. More importantly, the sidewalk keeps the water out of the basement! These guys are great at masonry, but they're even better problem solvers. I highly recommend them! read more
