Really cool speciality soda shop on Mass Street. Mass Street Soda is large and has a ton of sodas and other carbonated beverages available. They are right next door to Sylas & Maddy's Ice Cream, so it's your one stop shop for your sugar fix. There were a ton of sodas, you can just spend some time reading all the bottles. They also offer the sodas in float versions if that's your jam. They had some on sale, and some which they warn you are terrible. I probably should have bought some of the terrible sodas (see picture) but we didn't. Prices are a bit high for a soda, but most of this stuff is rare, and rarity does not typically mean cheap. They also have retro candy (think Necco wafers and Abba Zabbas) in addition to more "normal" drinks. This place is fun to look around and even if you don't get anything it's worth 10 minutes of your time to stop in and look around.

    Root beer in the back!

Retro is a business, whether it's 'distressed furniture' or bell-bottom jeans, and Mass Street Soda is yanking at our childhood memories using our favorite fizzy drinks. Remember the good old days, when soda came in 12 oz. glass bottles, not these dinky, airline-sized 7.5 oz. cans varieties? Many of my hot summer days were slaked with a cold bottle of soda pop, even though we called just about anything carbonated a 'Coke' (southern thing). Leave it to a purveyor of sugar water to capitalize on my nostalgia. Mass Street Soda has recently moved back into a larger, remodeled space, now expanding their footprint along with their selection and offerings. Are you a root beer fan, like me? Yeah, this place is for us, as Mass Street Soda has about 12 linear shelf feet of root beer varieties from all over. There has to be 100+ root beer choices! I love the opportunity to try by the bottle (I do the same with actual beer) instead of by a multiple pack. Of course, if you love a certain variety, then you can pack up a cardboard carrier and make up a six-pack. I love Goose Island's root beer, and this visit had me opting for a natural brew from Maine and another from Washington state. So fun! What about fruit-flavored sodas, or colas, or craft soda? Yep, they're all here, and like the root beer, there are shelves upon shelves of bubbly stuff, both familiar and new. Do you have a favorite soda from yesteryear, like Moxie or BubbleUp? Maybe you liked a regionally available drink like Delaware Punch or Fitz's sodas? Chances are really good that you can find it here. Their approach even says that if there's a soda they don't have, then just let them know and they'll do their best to get it in stock. They even stock a bit of retro candy titles, and that's just another reason for me to go back. Prices run between $1.00-$2.50 for most bottles, though the average bottle has to be in the $1.95 neighborhood, so pricier than normal soda, but for retro favorites, craft varietals, or the hard-to-find, that's super-reasonable. My last six-pack ran me about $13 and I was able to sample five that I had never tried before. I'll be back for sure, not only to feed my sugar jones, but just because they really offer such a unique opportunity!

Almost brought one home for a colleague who studied Russian history.

This is the place... for soda. I've been to a few soda shops before, but nothing like this! There are literally hundreds of choices. I love how they are organized by flavor. I zoned in on a root beer and had fun choosing from there. I ended up with an organic root beet from Maine. So, I felt healthy, while drinking soda. It's the same feeling that you get when you eat an organic doughnut from a fancy bakery. Next time I'm going for the mix & match six pack so I can try a few more flavors.

Missouri original sodas! Too bad they got bought out :'( This place still had them though!

Everything and everyone is just as sweet and bubbly as their sodas here! I highly recommend getting a six pack or more, to save on your soda purchases! And, turning one or all of those into a float! So yum!

Do you like soda?? Just plain old-fashioned soda?? Then this is the place for you as there are many brands of every flavor you might like! It's really a fun place just to browse, but do grab some bottles to take home. It's all mix and match. Most of the sodas are $2.95 each but you save with Mix & Match Pricing... Buy 6 & save $1.50, Buy 12 & save $5.00, Buy 24 & save $12.00. It's a great deal if you like old-fashion soda or have under age beverage drinkers in the house and most of us do!! It's a great grandkid or little kid treat. Even better, take them to Mass Street Soda to pick there own or treat them to a float! The floats are large enough to share !! Another great taste treat that's offered , make a float with your favorite soda...1 dip, 2 dips, more? Just like the old days there's an old fashioned soda fountain inside this shop!

Mass Street Soda is a perfect mix of a throwback idea, a soda shop, blended with a modern twist. I'll admit it up front, I don't drink soda. I mean, I probably have less than one a year - My non-beer related beverages are water and black coffee.. pretty boring. I'm certainly not going to be the best judge of a soda, but that can't stop me from loving this idea and enjoying popping in here from time to time. They have every single damn soda you could ever imagine! They range from old school classics like Dr. Pepper in a glass bottle, a million root beers, cream sodas, all the classics. Then you venture over to a corner and find beef jerky and other wild flavors. When I was in they were doing root beer samples that were fantastic. The bottles are arranged like you'd find wine in a liquor store, by style and region, and even the staff picks...makes me think of that Seinfeld when Elaine falls for the kid based on his movie picks matching up with her tastes. In the unlikely instance that you don't find what you're looking for just tell the crew behind the bar and they'll likely find a way to get it for you. Very nice staff and a good energy throughout, and I've heard that they're going to be opening a second location near The Legends in KC before too long.

    Great selection of ginger beers.

Fantastic selection of sodas!! Also super helpful and courteous staff. Highly recommend.

Excited to pop a top at home!

Back in the 1970's there were places that sold Pop Shoppe soda around Kansas City. They were short stubby bottles with about a dozen flavors that you could mix and match in these red plastic cases that held 24 bottles and then you would return then for deposit. Mass Street Soda is the same as Pop Shoppe if you multiply the flavor selection by about a gazillion and eliminate the deposit concept. Oh, and add an instant chiller, and a fountain bar that serves floats. This place makes me very happy, it's a little pricey at $2 a bottle, but that just helps me be more finicky in selecting a 6 pack to go. I have my 6 pack chilling in the fridge for a taste test tomorrow, and can't wait to go back to Lawrence to try some more.

Here is what we got. I would definitely recommend the Mate Mojito but NOT the spruce - tastes likes vapor rub soda lol.

Awesome store with literally all kinds of unique sodas from all over the country and the world. The staff are super friendly and knowledgable of what they carry in store. Most if not all the sodas are on shelves and are room temperature. You can get them chilled for additional charge. If you are thinking of taking it home to drink I would suggest skip chilling the bottles, but if you are drinking it right away on a hot day it may be a good idea. Definitely a unique store and worth your visit when you stop by Downtown Lawrence, Kansas.

Mass Street Soda is the perfect spot for both the soda aficionado and the casual Mass St. walker alike. Especially as we head into the warmer months, it's important to stay hydrated and, more often than not, caffeinated. Mass Street Soda's more than got you covered. Never have I seen more sodas in one place at one time. I guarantee that you haven't heard of over 50% of the items they have on their shelves. Want that random durian-flavored soda you grabbed in Beijing 5 years ago? They've got it. Looking for the best chocolate flavored soda, just because you're tired of having caffeine and sweets separately? They've got that as well. They even have satirical sodas, for crying out loud--most notably, "Leninade" and Yacht Club's "Donald's Populist Punch." For a guy who's pretty low maintenance when it comes to sodas, I was quite awestruck and bedazzled by the repertoire of carbonation variation here, and it took me forever to pick the best one to try. Mass Street Soda may be on the southern end of what is notoriously "Mass St.," but don't let that deter you. Sometimes, it's nice to throw out a beer and throw in a rare, delicious soda once in awhile. Good luck finding any of the sodas you see here in store--you're better off coming back to Mass and stocking up, cause that's what I'll be doing.

    My holiday soda selection!

I have never seen so many sodas in one place! Their prices are very reasonable, every soda there is $2 a pop, not being particular on others being more expensive. They have some sodas chilled, but they are able to quickly chill a soda for you if it's not available in there fridge case. Right now they are having seasonal drinks out for the holidays, they look like a lot of fun to drink! I created a four-pack as a gift for the holidays. Besides sodas, they have energy drinks, kombucha, and fruity drinks as well! Anything that fizzes!! Last but not least, you can create your own float or choose from their list of creations. I have tried one of their creations, a sweet looking and tasting float! Also the staff, I have been here three times and they have all been very friendly and helpful!

    The haul from my visit.

Finding a good old fashioned soda store is becoming harder and harder so I was stoked to see one opposite the Granada where we worked on Monday night. Thirty second walk down mass and was greeted by a really nice staff member who was eager to help me out. Of course I told her to leave me be so I could walk around and check everything out but eventually I called her back for recommendations. I told her straight up I don't do high fructose corn syrup and what I liked and she helped me pick out 3 root beers and 2 cream sodas. I still have 3 set aside for the remainder of the week but 2 in and I'm super stoked!

The variety of drinks was startling and a tad overwhelming! By some magic(a shaking ice contraption from what I could tell) my beverage of choice was chilled in 5 mins. The floats? I never wanted to leave! This was a successful little jaunt in Lawrence.
