Great store! Very reminiscent to the Fresh Thyme market back in the Chicagoland area. Not a big grocery store on the inside from how it's perceived on the outside which is perfect to me. Staff here was really friendly and it's particularly quiet here with minimal shoppers in the twilight hours. Found my favorite hard to find Sambazon energy drinks and found some items I never heard of like "dairy free" pudding. Prices are really high here for certain items that I know I could get for cheaper in the area. Overall, this store is a must visit since there's very minimal healthy choices in the area. read more

I want to like this place. It has a nice ambience and nice selection. But it has some veeery strange employees working there to the point of making one uncomfortable at the check out. Also the prices there are absolutely ridiculous. Multiple items are 30-50% cheaper at other stores (same item and brand). I asked if they would do a price match and they refused. Another problem they have is that they often have a wrong price in the system. One price is advertised under the item and higher price when they scan the item. You have to always double check with these guys. Unfortunately it's not the same store it used to be couple of years ago. I can see there are less and less people shopping there. Amazing delivery service from Instacart. Ordered groceries online this morning for delivery. The web site said delivery would be within 2 hours. Our groceries were shopped at the store and delivered to our house in 20 minutes by Katherine. Terrific! The store had everything we ordered. There were not substitutions or omissions. I now have an account with Sprouts, so can easily place orders in the future. The fee for Instacart delivery is well worth it. read more

My favorite place to grocery shop in Lawrence! It's very large for a health food store (esp. compared to the Merc Coop), and the place is beautifully kept. Sometimes you will find good sales here, so keep an eye out! I've gotten a pound of local sausage for $1 and 2 lbs of plums for $2 before. BUT, do not come here expecting to get Dillons' prices. I do not purchase all my groceries here, because there are certain things that are unavailable or overpriced in my opinion. But I also value the shopping experience and unique selection of things that are not available at other stores in Lawrence. read more

This is a difficult review to write. Sprouts is a great store. They are heads-and-shoulders better than our Mercantile Coop. There are things I LOVE about Sprouts and things I do not love about Sprouts. Kind of a fence sitter here. First off, I do not go here often. I live on the other side of town and traffic is so horrendous I do not trek to west Lawrence very often. When I am in the neighborhood, though, I do like to make a Sprouts run. This is a big store and they have plenty of variety available. They have a great deli, vitamins, a bulk food section, a meat and produce area. The deli is very good and I have a friend who raves about their meatloaf. The produce they have is always fresh and reasonably priced. In fact, they have some of the best produce prices in town. One thing I particularly like about Sprouts in that they offer unique items that you cannot get anywhere else. That is always a plus. The store is clean, the staff is friendly and items are easy to find. There is ample parking and everything seems great in Sprout-land. Here is the problem... OMG! Sprouts is expensive. You kinda get fooled by the decor into thinking this store is comparable to a farmers market but that is not the case. I was shocked at the price on many of their items. In fact, the last time I went I had my grocery list with me and ended up not buying a single item. They were just way too expensive. Seriously. Now I did find the produce to be reasonably priced. I think this is a good store for produce but I am wasting money to drive across town just to buy produce. There are other stores near me cheaper than Sprouts on most of the items that I regularly purchase. Despite the prices, the parking lot is always full and it does not seem to be a deterrent to west side shoppers. This is the only health food store on the west side of Lawrence, though. I am a die-hard sprouts lover. People who know me would wonder why I am not slapping 5 stars down here and writing a sermon on why we should all convert. My husband and I moved to Lawrence in August and now, in April, we are finally solidifying our grocery routine. Sprouts is definitely our secondary after the Merc. For produce, you cannot do better than Sprouts, especially when walking that price v. quality line. The Merc has more local/organic options but I don't exclusively buy organic and Sprouts often provides better (read: larger) options for less. Can't beat their bulk mushrooms, sweet potatoes, and kale. I also love buying bulk dry goods like brown rice and 100% Whey at Sprouts-- way less expensive. Here's the problem: I have MULTIPLE TIMES purchased meat from here to use same day and I get home and it's rancid. I have never tried to use meat here before the best-by date and I have had fish, turkey, and pork all go bad before the day even comes. I got so frustrated with it I just stopped buying meat here all together, no exceptions. The staff here are always sweet though! And you can't beat that corporate, liberal ambience. read more

The best place to get produce - especially if you buy organic (I don't but they have a HUGE organic selection). The bakery items are great. My favorite are the double crust pie, and cinnamon scones (which i haven't seen in months :( but I'm hopeful they return). The bulk section is huge and there are a variety of items to choose from - grains, beans, nuts, sweets and candies, granola, protein powder, etc. There is no bulk section as good as Sprouts' in Lawrence or Topeka. They have "health" items and products that you can't find anywhere else but for more common items you might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere. You can look up items on there website to see prices for stuff before you go. There frozen section is nice - lots of meat and seafood options. In general, there is a lot of wild caught fish and grass-fed meat options and there meat and seafood counter is good. Scallops are almost always cheaper at the counter than if you buy them in the frozen section so check the counter options before you buy pre packages meat and seafood. Lastly, they have a huge vitamin / health supplement / protein powder section. Not necessarily less expensive there but really convenient if you need any of the items and don't want to wait to get it. Sometimes they have really good sales for that stuff too. Overall, not necessarily the cheapest grocery store always but the best quality in Lawrence. read more

Being a grad student I can still relate to wanting to buy the cheapest produce/food available. I will state the fact that you will see higher prices at Sprouts than your regular Dillons (located right across 6th from Sprouts) but only on some items. To be honest I've found vegetables to be cheaper or just about the same price as Walmart/Dillons. Huge difference is the quality of the product at Sprouts though, much better than other stores in town. They do have manager specials on meats and seafood which can help some, but if you like to save money I would look at the weekly deals they have going on and take advantage of them. Most people complain about prices but they don't go their way to do price-comparison or even coupon to cut down their cost. Every time I have been to Sprouts they always have some deals, reduced priced items, or weekly sales. The service is great at Sprouts. The employees are well educated and super friendly. Plus I love the free samples they set out around the store, especially when they're still out by 9pm when I usually go shopping unlike Walmart where they would be out way before even midday. read more

Several reviews indicate the prices are sky-high. Apparently they've never stepped into a Whole Foods?! They typically have great sales on their produce and items are reasonably priced. Large aisles and properly working carts are a bonus (anyone else loathe squeaky wheels?). Great selection of cheeses. Really like their bulk items - great selection. Overall, like this store. Come expecting exactly what you think you'll find and you'll be just fine. Incredibly high priced goods, faux modern decor to make you feel like you're shopping in an old-time country market only with uber-pricey organic goods and the latest in modern hip grocery shopping. Beemers, Lexus, Mercedes, Honda Accords, SUV city shoppers ala soccer-mom/NASCAR dads who like their organic granola with the finest fresh organic ingredients from both coasts. Oh, and singer/songwriter muzak. Damn, that's hip. Harsh, but really, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that what's going on here. Corporate marketing targeted squarely at the anti-Kroger crowd that normally would shop across the street for the ever present wilted vegetables Dillon's is famous for. At least they look fresh here, but the Merc (equally pricey) and Checkers do equally well. Yes, I used those two words in the same paragraph: Checkers, Sprouts. Not hard to understand that decor makes people happy so if that's what you're after, that internal glow of the marketing team upon your shoulders, the food here is just fine. The parking was surprisingly aplenty on a late Tuesday afternoon. Hmmmm, maybe West Lawrence isn't Johnson County yet, but it's trying. I came here looking for something I couldn't find elsewhere, found it, paid and left with a small hole in my pocket. Didn't hurt, but wow, proud of those prices. I looked around plenty. Yes, you ARE going to pay more here, and you're going to ENJOY the experience. I think they'll do just fine here. There's plenty of market in West Lawrence for this kind of thing and, well, the bar is damn low with Dillon's and HyVee. Thanks, but I'll stick with the Merc for my overpriced goods. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They don't have official "greeters", but I can't think of a time that I have been in and a staff member didn't say hello and offer to help me find something. The other thing is that they have lots of good quality items in their store brand that are affordable. The real downside for me is that I have to schlep across town to go, and that they don't have quite the selection on some items as other stores. Still, there always manages to be enough there to make it well worth the trip. read more

I came by one unusually sober Saturday morning to pick up a few specific things. My needs are well covered by shopping at Dillions, Hyvee or WMT. However one should break the routine occasionally to find something new and even unexpected. This spot has good selections of just about everything. They even had 'Home Run Inn' frozen pizzas, probably the best. I got my figs. (Why are figs so difficult to get in KS?) I then picked up some steel cut oats that were on sale, a bargain. I didn't think the prices here were bad, some were really good. If you look around you'll probably find enough items on sale to make your trip here a success. The two let-downs from Sprouts was their website and not having fresh bushels of mint in the produce section. Mint is needed in recipes and of course Mojitos. For some reason Mint is sold around here (KS) in little plastic boxes, like a rare jewel. (In NYC I can get a bushel of mint for about $1or $2 bucks.) I'd have to buy 10 boxes to make a few pitchers of Mojitos. That's lame. The Sprouts website was wholly inadequate with regards to product nutritional information. I want to know what's in it and where its from or sourced. This is important info for any shopper and should be basic stuff for any 'health food grocer'. I can't eat NutraSweet and won't eat anything from China, so I need to know what I'm buying. read more

This is your average grocery store, just with prettier graphics. Not to say it's a bad place, but don't let the new shiny interior fool you into paying too much for their products. Like other stores, some things are a great price (lots of good SALES for the Grand Opening) and some things are grossly inflated. You still have to be smart and shop around. read more

This is the *best* place in town in price and variety for produce, bulk and dairy, natural groceries, clean meat and seafood, and health and beauty items. The Sprouts brand can really save you money, too, with just as high-quality ingredients as a familiar name brand. The sales are ultra-competitive and change every Wednesday. If they're out of a sale item, the cashiers are more than happy to give you a raincheck for an unlimited amount of the product. It's my favorite grocery store in Lawrence. I used to trek out to KC every two weeks to stock up at Trader Joe's. Not anymore. All my needs are met and then some at Sprouts. read more

Vegetables are almost always fresh and the prices very cheap! It's my number one grocery to shop for vegetables and fruits.

I can find no reason to continue shopping here for these two reasons: 1. Waiting to get checked out is a huge deal for me. There is almost always a shortage of employees at the checkout counters. Because of time constraints, I've had to leave the store twice before being checked out. I was thoughtful enough to put my impending purchases back on the shelves. 2. Prices are higher than I expected. Even sale items aren't as reasonable as I'd expect them to be. It seems to me that Sprouts would like to project an image similar to that of a small town local grocer. However, even small town local grocers have adequate help at the check out counter and they aren't nearly as over-priced as Sprouts. read more
