I had my first massage here about a year ago(spring 2009) and it was good. I like the fact that they sit down with you for a consultation before the massage and they keep a detailed record of your ailments. This is a level of professionalism that I think we should see more often in massage therapy. And unlike other Yelp reviews on here, I did not find the front desk people pushy at all. I recently went back and had a wonderful massage from Hercules. He was great! I haven't had a massage like that in years! I was so impressed by his massage I decided to become a member. The only thing I don't like is the fact that an hour massage is actually 50mins. They always factor out 10mins of your massage for you taking off your clothes and getting situated. read more

I came to this Massage Envy location as a first-time guest and paid $60 for a 1-hour massage with Patty, I believe the standard rate for a 1-hour massage here is $100. This place is well-maintained and my interaction with the front desk was pleasant. I'm never really good at identifying my needs to massage therapists because I generally feel tense everywhere, so I appreciated Patty just taking the lead. She identified areas of sensitivity for me and asked if her pressure was to my liking, although her medium pressure is what I would consider firm. She maintained a firm pressure despite our initial consultation where I indicated that medium is more my preference. I tensed up quite a few times when she went over the more sensitive areas repeatedly and had to ask her to lighten up the pressure because it was way too firm. It wasn't as relaxing as I had hoped it would be and I felt a bit sore the following days. She did, however, relieve a great deal of tension I was carrying in my neck and shoulders, so maybe her expertise is targetted relief rather than relaxing massages. For the discounted rate the massage was worth it, but I'm not sure that I would return to Patty for a $100 1-hour massage and that is only due to the fact that we just couldn't get on the same page in terms of pressure. She seems like a great therapist if you are looking for a strong approach to targetted relief. read more

Ambiance was nice. Massages were nice. I came because I received a gift certificate. I was a member there briefly. The only reason I became a member is because the second time I came for a massage; I was informed it would be $100 instead of $59 ($49? Can't remember) UNLESS I became a member. That is fine. Whatevs. I just get annoyed when places put pressure on you to sign up for this and sign up for that. I had automatic withdrawal from my bank account each month. It was just too much pressure (no pun intended) I hated feeling like I HAD to get a massage. It is certainly a nice treat, but like I said, there was too much pressure. I had a few good massages there. (One was extremely violent and painful, but apparently that woman was laid off) The whole tipping scenario is a bit awkward as well. Your masseuse will literally stand there while you are paying and saying what you want to leave for tip aloud... They also have a "tip guide" at reception that is really out of whack! Recommending tipping over 30%! I planned on leaving a 20% tip on my $50.00 massage. $10. When I stated this, the girls behind the counter seemed appalled. Apparently, according to the "tip guide" you should be tipping AT LEAST $15 minimum! Which is OVER 30% No sorry... And I should add that it isn't even an hour massage. If you read the teeny tiny print it states: One hour session, which consists of a 50-minute massage and time for consultation and dressing. LAME. Put my membership on "freeze" ugh. Can't cancel unless I move away! WTF? Not a fan of their membership rules. Obviously will not be returning. read more

I am a Massage Envy member originally from South Florida and transferred my membership to Los Angeles when I moved here 2 1/5 years ago. I'm a big fan of this location. The decor of the check in/waiting area is lovely. The private rooms are clean and quiet. The desk staff are attentive and concerned about my needs as far as the type of massage therapy I am seeking. They make a sincere effort to pair me with a therapist who excels in the type of massage I wish to have. I just recently had an appointment with Joyce and it changed my life. She specializes in Reiki therapy and I felt like I was in another dimension while she was working on me. I truly felt transformed after my hour massage with Joyce, and I HIGHLY recommend her. read more

This location did an amazing job from all angles. From the moment I walked in and as I was leaving. Overall, great customer service. PAY ATTENTION-The most impressive piece was my session with JOYCE. I would not call it a massage, it was blissful cloud 9. She knows what she is doing when it comes to the Japanese techniques and energy. I felt the energy going from my toes to my head, I swear she did something amazing to my Chakra's...I cannot stop talking about it. I usually like to rectify any negative experiences I have with a business in person so I don't have to write a bad review. Well, it's happened more than once now so I decided to make It known! Massage Envy offers an on line appt request service which I thought was great! I've used it in the past without hassle. This is now the second time I've sent a request and received no phone call confirming or approving my appt requirements. The first time I sent in a request I didn't receive a phone call after almost 8 hours so I called to confirm. They apologized and said they were just too busy but they in fact did receive my email. This time I sent an appt request Sunday morning for a Monday appt. I still have not received a phone call to confirm or reject the times I asked for. It's Monday night at 7:40pm. I received the standard email reply letting me know they received my appt request and someone would be calling me soon to confirm. Nothing! I signed up for the monthly massage package and gave them all my pertinent info needed. They have my phone # on file! I won't be back to this location nor will I be referring anyone to them. read more

If you love getting massages and are looking for a deal I totally suggest "Massage Envy". I found out about it when visiting my Gram in North Carolina. I got a massage at the one there and it was so great that I decided to sign up for a "once-a-month" massage deal that is a year contract. I am on my third month of massages at the Beverly Hills place and so far I must say it's been worth it. The thing about any massage place is you have to find your person. The person who works for your and your needs. Once you find that - things are great. My 1st and 3rd massage were wonderful -- I love Queen/AKA: Anita and Beverly (they both give relaxing massages that take you to just the right place of Zen) They know what they're doing and they listen to your needs. The 2nd massage I got there - I didn't specify what my needs were so I wasn't as happy with the result but that's my fault. The place is still great! Now, if you're looking for a place that's a full day spa, with bathrobes, relaxing room, rose petal pedicures, etc. this is not the place - Massage Envy is a place focused on just giving massages and nothing else. Now, I knew all that going into the experience that's why I am completely satisfied. When I want to go to a day spa I discover another place with all the perks of a full-day spa I will, and I'll let you all know what I think. Be sure when you decide to get a massage at this place you let them know your needs in advance so they can find the right massage and person for you. If you do that -- you will get great results! You certainly get what you pay for. I usually get massages at a local spa but they were booked up and I needed a massage so I went to Massage Envy on Robertson. The title of my massage should have been "the half-assed, i don't get paid enough and lazy massage" My therapist was 10 minutes late. 3 people arrived after I did and were taken in right away. I informed my therapist which areas I did not need treatment on and she ignored me and worked on them anyway. I had to tell her four times which areas to focus on. She could not have been any more unmotivated to give me a massage. She gently moved her little pudgy fingers around in small circles on one hand and probably had her iphone in the other hand. When I asked her to spend more time on my neck and shoulders this was clearly a tall order based on her reluctancy to accomodate. Clearly she was not a licensed massage therapist and took some kind of crash course. What should have been a 60 minute massage was only 48 minutes. I didnt even care I just wanted to get out of there asap. I wish I waited a day, spent a little more money and got the professional massage I wanted. I will never return here. read more

Deep tissue massage after a 3-day snowboarding trip. Oh yea. Fresh pow and 15 minute runs on the Tahoe slopes gave my body a workout. My knots had knots that I had not known about, but thankfully my masseuse eased them all out. Sean prepared my room and had both the air and the table nice and warm. His touch was firm was even, and his pressure pushed my muscles to a kind of painful euphoria. It was resistance and relaxation at the same time. It was hell and heaven at once. It was the best massage ever. The facility is small, but straight to the point and very clean. The parking lot in the back/street parking is ample during non-peak hours (after 6). HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. My gift card # (purchased in Ohio) was fraudulently used at this location and the management/owner will not respond or reimburse me. This has happened multiple times at this location to other clients and they obviously aren't taking any action. Apparently they think if they ignore the situation, it will go away. read more

The monthly membership is a scam. They tell you they charge twice as much as anywhere else, but if you are member, they only charge you the same as everywhere else. Oh by the way.... If you don't go, or move, it's still $60 per month. This is their core business strategy -- ink as many monthly contracts as possible and hope lots of people don't use their one massage a month. This equals more revenue and lower expenses. Can't go because you moved?....that's ok, we will still charge you! Too busy to schedule a massage?.....that's ok. We will still charge you! All of our members need a massage on a weekend when they have time? Sorry...we don't have that many masseuses, or rooms, or open appointments, or hours in the day......but that's ok. We will still charge you!! When you do cancel, they won't process it for another thirty days to make sure they can milk another $60 out of you. Great business strategy!!!! I have been to this location several times and I love it! They truly made sure to customize my experience each time. Once, I just wanted to relax. I didn't have much of a history in massage so I didn't really know what to ask for. The people at the front desk made sure that they asked me questions so that they could find the perfect therapist for me. They set me up with Vidal who was AMAZING! After that, I was hooked. Since then, I have seen Ellie, Terence, and Copeland. All of which were awesome. When I saw Terence I had a shoulder injury and he was so knowledgeable! Massage Envy is a hit or miss for everybody. But since I've been going here several times already, I kind of know who to request for. For a relaxing massage... I request Joey. He's a nice, short guy. Makes me fall asleep every time. After the massage, he will also give you tips on how to properly stretch certain muscles. He's very professional about it. For deep tissue... I ask for John. He'll ask how much pressure you want so you know he's not hurting you. I'm happy with his technique and I'm glad he's always working when I call for a same day appointment. The others are good too but I can't remember most of their names so I stick with ones I know. If they're not available, it's either I'll re-schedule or just take a risk with anybody. If you love being pampered with routine massages at affordable prices come here. I signed up 2 yrs ago and it was BEST gift to myself. For $59/mo you get 1 massage credit. It rolls over if you don't use it up. For an extra $10 you can convert it to a facial. I love deep tissue and the therapist here always gets it right. She uses a hot towel on my face/back at the end- so refreshing. Also ask for their freq user card. . . if you book your next appt when you are there after 10 the next massage is FREE. Their hours are also the best 7am-10pm. I can frequently squeeze a massage in before/after stressful day at work. Oh and some ppl don't get their tipping guide. Oh my God. Yeah I went there. I went to Massage Envy in Marina del Rey recently with a friend of mine. My massage was just okay, she said hers was one of the best in her entire life... So I thought, why not try out Beverly Hills? It's close to my work, their membership is really cool since I love massages and get them often. So let's give this a shot. The girl on the phone put me with someone she thought would be well suited for me. I told her I love deep tissue, I need a lot of pressure, and I've had a lot of massages in the past, so I am picky and have high standards (this makes me sound like much more of a b$3tch than I really am). So in I go to my massage last night with Vidal. From the moment it started I knew it was going to be good. Then it just got better and better. His pressure was AMAZING, his ability to find the trouble spots and work them out was just phenomenal. I felt like I was a different person after this experience. I could barely drive home afterwards I was in such a state of bliss. I signed up and became a member and plan to go to Vidal a couple times a month. Thinking I'd have the same experience at the BH location, I booked a facial with Staci and sadly, it was quite possibly the worst facial I've ever had. I went for the first time this week. The girl at the front desk that was helping me (I forget her name, but it started with X and was a really cool sounding name) was super nice. She was really helpful and was overall just great to deal with. I had Cynthia as my masseuse. She definitely focused a lot on my back like I asked for and after all the back pain I went through this week, it felt great the way she was sort of using these follow-through movements on my back. On the survey that I completed at the front desk, they asked if I wanted my feet touched or if I wanted a scalp massage. I said "no" for both of those, but to my surprise I received a foot massage. I was also asked if I wanted a scalp massage, even after I wrote "no" on the survey paper. It made me feel like they didn't read my survey at all and in which case, why do they even have you fill it out? They definitely did pay attention to the fact that I wanted to focus on my upper back, but did not pay attention to what I DIDN'T want. The other thing I disliked about this place was that the walls in the rooms were very thin. There were a lot of people in the halls (which also bothered me) and you could hear people opening and closing doors and talking in the hallways. I was able to focus myself away from that, but I can see how that could easily ruin the experience of a massage. There were also a lot of people in general sitting in the waiting room with you and that made it feel less personal, which I feel is important because when you're going to a spa, you go there for YOU and to feel great and pampered. I went to Massage Envy because a friend of mine is a member and gifted me a 90min massage. However, I have had better massages and experiences at other places, which is why I would not pay for a membership at Massage Envy. Also, I read through a lot of Yelp reviews to know which masseuse to pick and which Massage Envy location to go to (there are several equidistant from my house) and the reviews are very hit or miss. I need consistency when I go for a massage, which I get from other places. I would go back if I received another massage as a gift from my friend (it's impossible to turn down a free massage, let's face it). I had a massage at Massage Envy last year. My fiancé had purchased an hour and a half massage/gift certificate for me. We both had no idea it was a membership type of place. We both agreed best massages of our lives! I had Bryon and he was very skilled at his craft, really listened and just had "the magic touch"...... Unfortunately, I don't like committing myself financially every single month and even if you carried it over to the following month they won't let you book two sessions back to back, which is ridiculous. I did consider it but I might go 3 months w/out a massage. I'm sorry, but in this economy, Massage Envy should be like Touch or Massage Company and take the business they can when they can vs. running people away especially in this kind of economy! But to DOUBLE the price if you won't commit is just poor customer service. My friend went here but she's not on yelp. She asked me to write a review. She prepaid on Friday for a massage on Saturday. She went for a 60 minute Massage but was only given a 45 minute Massage after they wasted time asking her to show what hurts on an iPad after she told them that only wants a massage for her back and neck. Then the masseuse wasted more time looking for Massage lotion. Very frustrating when you pay for a 60 minute Massage and only gets 45 minutes. When she told the front desk why she was only given a 45 minute Massage they said that the Massage is supposed to be hands on only 50 minutes. But all the documents and papers say 60 minutes??? Yes, my earlier review mentioned that this place is either hit or miss with massages. Today was a great session with Patty. First time with Patty. My back was in so much need of a massage. I guess I slept wrong.. Anyways, I tried the 90 minute therapeutic session. She knows her stuff. Patty is very knowledgeable. I really appreciate the head and face massage. This place serves cucumber infused water. Love it! It's so refreshing to drink after a massage. The staff at the counter were very polite and easy going. I get massaged regularly and I usually tend to avoid these chain places like "Massage Envy". However, my mother was visiting--we were in the are--and we were able to get a last-minute appointment. This was probably one of the worst massages I've had in awhile (if not ever). There were too many sheets, the therapist seemed to spend more time fussing with the placement of the sheets than the hands on massage. She also cut my massage early to be only 45 minutes. There didn't seem to be any care in the massage--it felt more like a choreographed danced that she repeated from client to client--disregarding my personal needs. Also, I was rushed out of my room before I could even dress back into my clothes fully. Not to mention, the woman started stripping the sheets as she handed me my glass of water. This was my first time at a Massage Envy and while I have apprehension to chains, this location still delivered! Parking was easy, the facility was clean and the staff was very welcoming and thorough in explanation. My therapist was very professional and gave feedback or explained things through the massage. I typically like zero communication during a massage but I do appreciate feedback as to trouble areas or how to help certain things. I felt a lot of relief in problem zones that I don't always get with my massages so I will definitely be back! read more

I've been here three times now for a massage with Jonathan. I waited to give the review to be sure his work was consistent. He is awesome! I need & enjoy deep work & he does a great job with that. I feel much better the day after my massages with him. I highly recommend you get 90 or 120 minutes with him so he can work out all your kinks. I've had my massage envy memebership for almost a year now and it is one of the best monthly investments I make. I work long hours on my feet so I definitely don't mind spending $45 a month for a little relaxation I have a busy schedule and I love that they have "roll over" massages if you don't use yours for the month, I have about 4 built up. I just had 2 massages this week with Byron, he is the best masseuse I have ever had. He really cares about your needs and problem areas and always delivers. He always makes you feel great and relaxed, It's a bit hard to book with him since he's great at what he does but I would definitely reccomend you try and book with him. When Byron isn't available and am in need of a massage I go with Eddie, he's my runner up :) read more

I am a member in Pasadena near my house but I took advantage of the many Massage Envy franchise options and had a massage here when I was in the neighborhood. It is a smaller more cramped space than I am used to. The people who were working that day were new so they were a little slower but they were nice about it. Overall it was the usual Massage Envy experience. No pretension or snobbishness but still a nice relaxing environment and most of the therapists do a good job. The woman I had that day was pretty good, but not as good as the therapist I usually see in Pasadena. The good thing is with a membership you can keep trying different therapists until you find a good one and then you just stick with them. read more

Okay... So here's the deal... First, look at my check-in, and allow me to pick up where I left off. 5:20pm rolls around, and no attention whatsoever! Except for the occasional apology. AND I ended up leaving w/ no massage. After arriving 25 minutes early, to wait and watch a full hour of clients coming and going, you could say that I am disappointed! To sum it up, I booked an appointment over the phone for 5:00pm, only to find that upon arrival, I was not in the system. Fortunately they booked me a 5:00pm that was available, in which I wonder if there ever was a masseuse because I never saw them! I walked... I have a 6:00 pm business meeting and was going to show up 20 minutes late. Once it came out to being an 40 minutes late I threw in the towel. I'm out! No Shenanigans for me! In terms of services provided and cleanliness, no different or better than any other Massage Envy's I've been to (I guess I expected a little more out of the Beverly Hills location?). AMATEUR HOUR on the reservation side though. I scheduled two 5 PM appointments for my BF and I on a Thursday for the following Sunday, even got names of each of the masseuses we would be seeing. When we showed up on Sunday they had my appointment but not my BF's (even though they had confirmed over the phone both of our appointments???). They said there was an availability at 5:30 PM but because one of the people at the front desk was scheduled to leave they weren't able to book the 5:30 PM appointment because there would only be one person up front at the time of the appointment. How that has anything to do with the masseuses and their schedules, I have no idea but that was what we were told. And of course, because of the cancellation policy I couldn't cancel the one appointment they did have on their books so my BF had to wait around while I got mine since they were unable to accommodate him. This isn't the first issue I've had related to booking/payments at this location. Will not be coming back here. read more

Just have to say this place being remodeled did not look like anything was enhanced.. I checked in to get my massage (side note therapist was good) and as I walked in I was greeted by one young lady (nice and kind). I told her I was here for my appt and asked if I can get a enhanced therapy lotion that was provided through YELP as you checked in.. She told me she doesn't know if she can honor it because since they are under new management that they may not be able to. She went ahead and asked her manager which was right next to her and the manager quickly responded and said no.. That they haven't had time to contact yelp to take off the promotion .. Here is where the problem lyes, when working in a customer service field, you have to honor any promotion especially if it's in cold stone writing, typing, etc.. You do not shun off paying customers.. This left a bad taste in my mouth about the so called "New Management". Also I was told to go relax in the relaxation area inside, well it was not relaxing at all.. I had the manager talking loudly and the door opened and literally the Tranquility area was next to the entrance and exit (reception area) The entire setup here was not well thought out.. This is one location that needs to be revisited by Massage Envy itself and see what they can do.. Overall it got a 2 star rating because my Massage therapist was quite good.. The other three stars lacked Customer service, Tranquility room, loudness and overall layout.. This is Los Angeles. There are hundreds of spas here - for another 20 or 30 bucks you can have a much better experience. I only came here because I got a gift card. I wish I could tell the people that gave it to me not to waste their money on this place ever again. The room was freezing cold. The bed could be warmed up by whenever my body was out from under the blanket I was shivering. They can't adjust the temp because it's central air. The masseurs was very sweet but seemed fairly new to the industry because the massage felt like my 12 year old cousin was massaging me. Long story short. I went here for the first time last night. The good (why I even gave 1 star): 1. Front desk staff was nice/pleasant. 2. Check-in was quick and easy. 3. Facility was good, clean and tidy. 4. Parking spots in the back or street parking (pretty easy parking for LA) at the time I went (7-8 pm). Now the bad: 1. Not sure if all the therapists are like the person I got but if they are, it was probably one of the worst massages I received. a. I did not complain there because I was laughing at the experience as I was coming out. I had a feeling it would be bad and then just felt badly for the therapist (he was a nice guy but whenever I receive a massage and it is bad, I always feel it is necessary to provide my feedback for constructive criticism, thus, why I am here now). b. He used a terrible oil (smelled bad/old) and kept globbing it. c. He was talking way too much during the massage and kept on saying creepy things when he was going over the muscles incorrectly (as if he was doing something right, which he was not). At one point he did ask how it was/how he was doing and if it was bad that I should tell him. But telling him was pointless because nothing would have improved or changed the situation (because he is not a good therapist). I wanted to stop him as soon as I realized he is a terrible therapist but I wanted to give him a chance. Then just wanted the whole thing to be over. 2. It was too cold in the room. 3. Front is super disorganized. Been a member for a while now and booked two services, massage and facial. Showed up 15 min early to compete any paperwork. Moved to the tranquil room and watched 4 other people who came in after me get pulled. 30 minutes after my scheduled time I was asked what I was doing in the room. Then they told me they had to figure out which service was first (though I had mentioned when booking I wanted the massage first). Meanwhile I'm watching staff play and laugh up and down the hall. Finally I get pulled by the esthetician who rushed to finish her appointment to take me back. She was good but kept reminding me she had to rush. Then my massage therapist came in, no consultation or anything. Just went for it. He was rough and kept stretching my legs too far. Asked him to stop, he acknowledges and tells me I need to stretch more in my routine, and kept repeating the stretch anyway. Half way through my 60 min massage he leaves and says he needs to see if he has time to finish because of a couple coming in........ like I was the late one. Comes back 5 min later and tells me it's my lucky day which was eye roll inducing. Finished the massage and he just leaves without saying anything. I laid there for 5 minutes wondering what was happening. Got up, dressed, no one offered me water. Left. Contacted massage envy and got an email from their manager saying "Let me make it up to you in the hope to give you a better time with us. I apologize again and hope to hear from you soon." basically saying "oops we'll get em next time". I won't go back. Two stars for the esthetician and the parking being easy. read more
