For my money, I don't think anything compares to a professional massage. I had just gotten over a serious illness... bronchitis. I thought for sure, I was going to die. The week after, I committed to getting myself healthy. I needed a serious detox... including a juice cleanse and a full body massage. It was going to be my first massage, I knew it would be amazing, but I was still nervous. My massage therapist was really calming (kinda like my OB/GYN- no joke!!). She talked me through everything and informed me that if I was still sick, at all, it was a terrible idea to get a massage. Apparently, when you are rubbing your muscles, especially if you've never had a pro massage before, all sorts of toxins are being released. It totally makes sense, if you think about it. Toxins get absorbed into your blood and those crazy things are coursing through your entire body and getting settled in where they can. Heavy! I had, however, completed my regimen of antibiotics and had gone to work (waiting tables) so I felt comfortable enough that the sickness was out of my body and that the massage would enable me to flush out the yucky residues that all of those drugs (syzzurp) had left behind. I was right! So she set me up in the room and discussed my level of comfort. Can she touch me there? Do I need to wear a bra? etc etc. Now, I've nude-modeled for figure drawing classes before, there's no shame in my 200-lb game. So I let it all hang out. (Sorry for ya). She turned down the lights and put on some comforting muzak and commenced the rub down. It was amazing. Sadly, all I could think about was the toxins being released from my muscles....I mean, my brain didn't stop working at all! I felt like such an idiot because I couldn't simply clear my mind! Next time, I'm going to drink a Sleepy-Time tea or have some Calms Forte (homeopathic anti-anxiety supplement). I highly recommend you do too. The hour flew by so quickly. When the massage was over, I felt a little light-headed and just wanted to lie down. I followed her directions and drank a cart load of water and ate a super healthy lunch afterwards. Make sure you do both, as you need to flush out said toxins. That afternoon, I felt exhausted and had to take a two hour nap! The massage is seriously therapeutic BUT hard (and good) on your body!! The next day, my shoulders were a little tender to the touch but I felt soooo good. The one hour massage is a game-changer and definitely crucial to EVERYONE. My husband and I showed up thinking we were booked for a couples massage on one of his rare days off, thinking this was a great way to spend time together, but it wasn't a couples massage. We were asked to go in separate rooms. When I asked the front desk why we were misled, they said the manager made the reservation and they don't know. I left a note for the manager to call me. She called and very nonchalantly apologized for the miscommunication and that their couples massage room had been closed for years. When I asked about the person who made my appointment on the phone, she said she doesn't work there anymore. And that's it! She showed no remorse, no offer to make it up to us, no remedy, nothing. And just like that, I will never go back to another Massage Envy location. Horrible massage, a waste of time and money. I booked a massage for both myself and my boyfriend. I requested deep tissue and made sure they knew we both wanted very firm pressure. The guy on the phone said no problem and he put us with "therapists" who specialized in deep tissue. At the massage, I had gotten undressed and laid down on the table the masseuse came in and said that there was a misunderstanding, that she did not do deep tissue and there was no one else who was available.. She asked if aromatherapy would do instead. In what world are firm pressure and smelly oils equal?!? None. She said no one else was available but she could do as firm as possible. So I stayed, because if you're prepared to get a massage then it's hard to change your mind after taking off layers of winter clothing. I wish they would have mentioned that my therapist was not there before I got undressed. Well, I should've just left. Basically this girl give me an oil bath. She rubbed me all over with oil, barely using any firm pressure. She did give it her all for about 5 minutes when she used her elbows and it felt great. But then she was breathing so hard I thought she was going to pass out from overexertion after that 5 minutes. I was supposed to get 1.5 hour massage but cut it to an hour after I felt her "firm" pressure, which was medium pressure at best.... at best. The manager did apologize and offered me a complimentary 30 minute deep tissue right then but my boyfriend and I had dinner reservations so I couldn't wait on that, especially the time it would take to peel off my layers of winter clothes, once agin. So instead she did offer me a chair massage and I gladly took that 15 massage with Greg, who did do a great job! But it was only 15 minutes and I needed much more. After that I guess the manager felt like she made all right and she tried to sell us on their membership!! After politely declined she then tried to sell us on their short term packages, which is good for just "a few months." NO, NO, NO.... why would you think I would want that after this experience!!?? In the end we both paid full price for our massages, my 15 minute chair massage was free. And we left VERY DISAPPOINTED. I could write another whole review just on what my boyfriend told me about how bad his was also. Super average massage. I get a couple massages a month. I did belong to Massage Envy then stopped going there because I got spoiled from another massage therapist company that had a better service/product. My wife was nice to get me a massage for my birthday and set it up at ME. Got their at 1:55 for a 2:00 appointment. After filling out the 10 question form on a iPad and waiting about 10 min I finally got in at 2:15 (no sweat they were busy) I figure I got a 60 min massage and I wasn't in a hurry. Well about 40 minutes later I get " well we're finished with your massage" in the back of my head I thought that was quick. I looked at the clock in the massage room it was 3 o'clock. Figuring I had a true 45 minute massage not 60. Wasn't going to argue or complain (that's the whole reason you're there to relax). It's now 3 o'clock in the massage room, I get dressed and go out front and pay my $90 plus tip and leave. As soon as I get in my car I grab my phone to see if I missed any phone calls and my phone says 2:57. Well I start doing the math and I'm thinking that clock in the massage room had to be set forward 7-8 minutes. i'm not sure if this was an oversight or Massage Envy is being a little kinky on their labor time. All I know is a paid $90 for a 40 minute massage that was super average. I truly appreciate my wife setting this appointment up for me, but next time I'll have her go with my original massage therapist. On a sidenote I would probably bring my phone in with me next time when (or If) go to Massage Envy and set the alarm on my phone for one hour. At least I'll keep them honest! read more

Lisa was my masseuse and she was very professional. I asked for more of a relaxation type of massage with light pressure and she hit it on the nail. She even commented on how I hold my 4 month old baby because she could notice the difference on my left side. I will definitely be coming back soon for a much needed mommy break. My mom and I made an appointment for our girls day which was supposed to start with a massage. We drove 30 minutes to get there and as we pulled in the parking lot they called and cancelled ONE of the appointments. They said they couldn't get the other person in for a few hours. I had a membership there for about a year and I have to say overall I was incredibly disappointed. Some of the massage therapist were really good but it was so hard to schedule an appointment and don't even think about doing a walk-in. I was so frustrated when I was done I had 4 1/2 hours left on my membership which was a couple hundred dollars but to alleviate the aggravation of trying to schedule an appointment I decided just to forfeit that time. When I did have a scheduled appointment from 48 to 72 hours out I did get canceled twice and they gave me the same excuse each time of "the person got in a car accident". Now not to be a jerk they could be right or I just have the worst luck in the world and every time I schedule an appointment every employee they have gets in a car accident. Not sure if they were lying to me or not. Keep that in consideration if you're thinking about joining their membership. read more

Very displeased with my facial. Scheduled a 90-minute appointment from 6:30 to 8. I didn't even get on the table until 6:50, and then at 7:45 I was told I was done. The facial itself was not good - the treatment I was given wasn't wiped off my face entirely, and I was supposed to receive a separate décolletage treatment for $10 - she only applied it to my neck. When I went to the front desk after, it was a challenge to get the receptionist to recognize that I was done way too early, despite standing in front of her before my time was even up, and that I shouldn't have been charged the full amount. I was charged for a 60 minute facial with the $10 treatment, with a healthy amount of attempted product upsell. Would not recommend and I will not be going back. read more

What a joke place. I paid for a full body massage (couples) but all I got "massaged" was my back, calfs, and arms and barely my feet. It was more of a rub down of oil NOT a massage. She didn't massage my neck, hands, upper thighs (front or back), shins, front above my chest or scalp. You even fill out paper work before hand of areas you'd like massaged and the pain associated with those areas. None of the areas I requested had enough attention like I requested brought to them. Why have us fill them out if you're not going to massage the areas?! The lady massaging my husband was soooo loud during the whole time!! She kept running into things and falling over her chair. On top of it!!!!!! When she got down to my calfs she's pulled out her cell phone and used one of her hands the rub my leg but kept stopping because she was distracted by her phone. Granite she kept her hand on me but would constantly stop! I even counted her stopping for 23 seconds and she would move an inch or two and stop again for like 10 seconds!! Then to fill time she went back to my back but just the top potion and continued to be on her phone using only one hand! I paid the introductory price of $50 but it wasn't even worth $10!!!! I love my massage therapist at Massage Envy Spa in Chesterfield. Catherine is the best! She has so much knowledge, and is very in tune with my body. She can always tell if I've worked out an area too hard, and really helps me out there. I have back problems and she helps me so much, I can't even say. I always leave feeling amazing. I do 90-minute sessions because an hour just isn't enough. Actually, it's only 50 minutes of massage time for the hour, with 5 minutes before and after to consult with your therapist, undress, and dress afterward. I've heard a lot of clients complaining that they didn't get their "full hour massage." Just know that it's only 50 minutes. Or an hour and 20 minutes for the 90-minute session. That upgrade really gives you an extra half hour of massage time, which is nice. I've been going here weekly for more than a year, and I've seen a number of therapists. Catherine is the best match for me. Yolanda is great for a relaxing massage, but she can really dig in there! Tom is by far the deepest pressure massage I've had. Shona is fantastic for relaxation and is the sweetest person alive, I swear. I also get facials with Jane every month or two. She asks me what I've been doing for my skin, tells me the dry areas that I should hydrate, and her extractions are the least painful I've had--some estheticians are a little too forceful. Jane also recommends products that suit my needs exactly. I've never been unhappy after a facial with Jane. The front desk staff is very professional for new-comers. Once they get to know a client, and they do, quickly, they will joke with you and ask about your family, etc. They truly try to make every guest feel welcome and special. If you go later in the day on a weekend or in the summer or holidays, the rooms do fall behind schedule. This happens because sometimes guests take their time getting dressed after the massage. Don't get mad at your therapist--they do the best they can! As stated above, it's only a 50-minute massage for the hour. Now, if you start late, don't be afraid to remind your therapist of the time, and agree what time the massage should rightfully end. If you do get shorted, management is great about making sure you are satisfied with your experience. Again, don't be afraid to speak up. This is supposed to be a relaxing, positive, and therapeutic experience. It can't be if you're unhappy, in pain because the pressure is too much, or annoyed because your massage got started late. I have been receiving massages for over 20 years and it took that long to find a therapist like Gregory. Hopefully this review will save you some time in your search. Right off the bat you know he is a consummate professional, is 120% focused on your needs, and is not intimidated by any questions your throw at him. I have experienced a lot of therapists who simply tell me to SHOOSH and "try to just enjoy the massage" or don't ask many questions about my needs. Well I like to know who is working on me and why they are doing what they are doing and when a therapist gets nervous or silent I cannot mentally or physically relax. This was also the first time I had a therapist who was knowledgeable and honest about the practice and effects of massage therapy. Based on the review below I wanted to point out that clients are often told about how massage flushes toxins and lactic acid so it has become my litmus test for the competence and experience of therapists but Gregory explained in detail how that is just a bunch of nonsense that gets repeated throughout the profession, and not only articulated why it doesn't make sense physiologically but cited medical case studies that investigated and verified his information. For the massage itself I have never had a therapist utilize so many different techniques while requesting permission and giving explanation for what he intended to do. He seemed so excited to share his knowledge and even ended the session by thanking me for coming in and giving him the opportunity to work with him. That is my last praise to offer is how he phrased the ending of the session, that he was grateful to work WITH me. He didn't work on me, he didn't "fix" me, he didnt "attack my knots" or anything of the sort. I really felt like his only concern was improving the quality of my life and for more than 20 years of massages in more than 20 countries this guy really is a rare-find. 3 sessions down and I am a totally new person. This is my first Yelp review. I simply had to get on here and reach out to anyone else that needs a therapist they can trust and benefit from. I am very much looking forward to my future sessions with him. For being a Massage Envy location this makes for the rest of my positive experience. It is located right of HW64 and very easy to find. It is a large location with many rooms and therapists. The front desk staff was not as knowledgeable about massage but that is the typical experience with chain locations, they sell memberships and try to make you feel comfortable but don't know a lot about the 'product' they sell. I was definitely not comfortable being asked medical and personal questions from someone who wasn't a therapist especially being asked while sitting in a waiting area full of strangers. The location is very clean and calm, though you can hear doors slam shut quite often during the massages and if you're unlucky enough to be in their couples room you will hear quite a bit of conversation and foul language coming from the break room. Even with the little bit of bad, this is a great location and while I have not tried another therapist I can otherwise swear by the passion Gregory has shown thus far. read more

Massage envy has managed to take a business based on relaxation and turn it into a dishonest con game that leaves you feeling worse than when you started. On more than one occasion I've booked a massage with one therapist only to be switched to another when I show up. They use inferior quality oils that irritate the skin. They have stripped down the experience to the bare minimum then constantly try to upsell you with add-ons to the massage. They permit you to transfer a massage to a family member once every six months but charge you a transfer fee for the five extra keystrokes it takes them in the computer. read more

Today while visiting in St. Louis, I scheduled a massage at this Massage Envy. I am a member in Encino, CA. Ashley was my masseuse. I was concerned as I had to wait around 9 minutes for her, however, she made up the time and even had she not, she truly truly performed miracles to my body. Two weeks earlier I had a terrible fall. I am NOT a young person and already have had one hip replacement. When I arrived for the massage, I was experiencing left hip pain, lower and mid back pain, and sciatica discomfort. Ashley has strong hands, checked in with me regarding the pressure she was using, encourage me to breath out the discomfort and worked extensively on my neck, upper back and shoulders. The miracle is that I have NO MORE PAIN. No really, I am feeling back to my pre fall self. I had several trips to the chiropractor since the fall, but nothing did what Ashley's massage accomplished. I am so so very impressed and had to commend her in this Yelp review. I jokingly mentioned when I left the session that I might have to move to Chesterfield so she can do more of her miracle work on me. KUDOS Ashley. Thank you for restoring my body. I won a gift card to massage envy at a Trivia Night fundraiser so I decided to book a pre-natal massage (I am 23 weeks pregnant). My husband and I were members of Massage Luxe in the past and it was pretty good (I also had a facial at this location about 8 months ago and it was pretty good, too). We enjoyed the services, but decided to cut back after the holidays, so we cut the membership. That brings us to today.... I showed up 15 minutes early which I was told was for me to fill out paperwork, etc. When really it was to sit for a 10 minute sales pitch for the membership. I get it, that is the big money maker, but not interested. She was a little pushy but after 10 minutes she did lay off a bit. That brings us to the therapist...I had a male therapist, which was fine, but he was a tad socially awkward and didn;t really put me at ease...being 23 weeks and female and etc. In hindsight, I should have said a female was a must...my bad. The massage was not good. It was a waste of time. He was nice, awkward, and he was obviously unvofrtablle with me? It was just odd. He didn't really use any lotions or oils (a little) so the massage was rough. I actually felt like getting up about 15 minutes in because I felt a little...I don;t know...weird? The kicker was the end...he met me in the hallway, said about 2 words, and showed me the door. I kind of felt rushed out out of hallway. It was just again...awkward. At the front desk, I left a cash tip...the guy closing out my tab said the manager wanted to speak with me for a sec...again another 10 minute sales pitch...she asked "what is keeping you from saying yes today?" I told her honestly, I'd rather have a massage or a facial very 3 months and splurge on Ginger Bay (they are FABULOUS!) than spend $60 on an ok experience....I should have unleashed the weirdness of the experience but I just wanted to get out of there...I said maybe my husband would be interested? There are some good massage therapists there but the manager and the staff are very unprofessional. My regular therapist gave me a 90 minute massage on a Friday. She worked on my back and on only on my right shoulder and arm during that 90 minute massage - no other areas were touched. There was not time for my left shoulder and arm nor any time for my legs, feet, or scalp. Since I had to travel to the west coast the next day and returned late on Sunday night I booked a massage on the following Monday (3 days later). That much travel in such a short amount of time is very hard for me and I was relieved to know that I had a massage scheduled on Monday. I received a phone call confirming on Sunday evening confirming my massage on Monday only to receive a phone call late Monday morning informing me that my massage for that afternoon was being canceled. The reason given was that the massage therapist could not see me. I was so disappointed because after all of the travel I really was in need of a full body relaxing massage. Plus, on Friday I did not even get a good portion of my body worked on. So I called Massage Envy back to find out what had happened and was told that the massage therapist would not see me because she had just seen me on Friday. I was told that this was too close together and that if she worked a certain knot or area too hard that she could lose her license. This leaves me dumbfounded and I have never hear of such a thing. All I wanted was a relaxing massage. If the therapist did not want to work deeply on the areas that she worked on on Friday there were plenty of areas that did not get any massage and needed attention. Plus due to the travel I was really in need of all over relaxation. This caused me much upset and stress. I immediately canceled my membership and I have to say that the manager and staff were very cold and unfriendly when I came in and I have been a customer there for years. My husband plans to cancel his as well as soon as he uses up his sessions. I had planned to get my daughter a membership and had recommended this massage envy and the therapist I had to a friend of mine. I let her know what happened so that she can make a better choice. My husband joined at the Chesterfield location but gets his massages at the Wildwood location. I have learned that Wildwood and Chesterfield have the same owner. So we will all be taking our business elsewhere as there are plenty of other great choices in the St. Louis area. In summary, you can get a good massage there but I can't in good conscience spend my money at an establishment that operates and treats customers in this manner. They require that I give 24 hours notice to cancel yet they can cancel on me the day of because they think that my massages are too close together. Pathetic! read more

This massage envy is da bomb! The workers there are so professional and nice. They are so helpful there with figuring out what massage therapist is a perfect match for you. Also, the therapist are amazing! I have loved every one of them. They really listen to what your needs are and make your body feel like butter when you leave. Today I called to make an appointment and I was very polite with the man on the phone named, Evan, and I was calling to make a prenatal therapist massage appointment. I was on the phone with him and shortly after I discussed I was 25 weeks pregnant he still managed to be very rude. He told me that he could book me an appointment at 4PM for a prenatal massage, but after he asked me how old I was, which is 17, he told me I need parental permission. However, when you are 16 or older in the state of Missouri, my baby doctor told me this specifically, you are allowed to have emancipation minor rights when it comes to anything medical and prenatal therapy massages are medical. In fact, any massage is considered medical. Even if you are not filed as an emancipated minor, you are allowed to have anything medically done without parental supervision or permission. Then the manager, I believe, a lady, was on the phone and tried telling me to prove that I have this right... I said, "Do you want me to bring the pregnancy test I took 6 months ago to prove I'm pregnant?" And she replied with, "You need to bring the paper work stating you're an emancipated minor." What?? I have every right, medically, as a pregnant 17 year old to not have my parents consent. You can look it up. I forgot to mention, but I also started the conversation off with saying, "Hi yes my mom transferred me a massage through her account..." My mom is already the one giving me permission... she's the one who gave me the massage... And you might think, "Oh just brush it off they're ignorant people who obviously don't know what they're talking about, just have your mom come in and give you permission. However, my mom is gone all day for the PGA tournament and based on what I already told them, I shouldn't have to have my mom sign anything. Also, I'm already in the Massage Envy system, just not the one in Chesterfield... I have developed carpal tunnel in both of my wrists, especially my left side, it causes my entire arm to go numb and it constantly feels as if there are pins and needles in my hand and wrist. I would have liked that massage at 4 PM, today, I am very much in pain. read more
