The best kept secret at ME, Clifton is Claudine. I went into the massage with zero expectations and literally told her to just do her thing. I left my appointment completely blown away. I have anxiety and ADHD, so my mind is usually always on and it's hard for me to truly relax or shut my brain off. That was not the case with Claudine. I felt a level of calm I don't often experience. I was fully relaxed and even fell asleep a couple of times, which honestly shocked me when I woke up. At first, I thought the pressure was a little too light, but as the massage went on she gradually increased it, mixing different techniques and really focusing on areas with tension. I didn't even realize I had knots in my back until she worked through them. I've been a member for about a year and haven't gone to the same massage therapist twice, Claudine was my first therapist at this location. I found myself waiting for over 30 mins, even past my appointment time, which felt frustrating. Compared to other locations, this one really falls short. If you're looking to get value for your money, I suggest considering alternatives. Unfortunately, I felt the need to contact corporate about my experience here again. I called before coming to get my massage stating that i specifically need work done on my shoulder and lower back. They gave me an appointment immediately which i was very grateful for! It's a very pleasant office, everyone is very kind and soft spoken which is lovely. Again, i stressed about needing my shoulder to be worked on. I went in to the room, the one giving me the massage asked if i wanted to buy an additional muscle therapy for the areas hurting and i said yes. The massage itself was wonderful but i left with my shoulder STILL throbbing in pain. I felt that after expressing myself so many times AND paying extra for that muscle therapy fee, i truly assumed they would give me the treatment i needed, but rather, the lady behind the counter told me that NEXT time i should try a different massage, made for a specific body area. Linda did great with my RTR, she made me feel comfortable and at ease for my first time getting a massage. I was really looking forward to my 60-minute facial at Massage Envy, especially since it was a thoughtful gift from my daughter. Upon arrival, I chatted w/the front desk associate for about 5-7 mins. We went over a few questions and then I met w/my esthetician. She asked if I wanted to add an enhancement to my facial, and I agreed to dermaplaning. I was fully aware that their enhancements do not add extra time to the session, per their website. However, my entire facial - including the dermaplaning - was completed in less than 30 minutes. I was expecting a full hour, as that's what I booked and paid for. It felt like a rushed facial, more along the lines of a mini-facial. Had I known that adding dermaplaning would cut my facial in half, I would have opted for the standard facial to get the full experience. When you book dermaplaning session on their site, it clearly saids "1hr". I left feeling rushed and disappointed, and honestly, a bit cheated. I expected to receive the full service time I booked and paid for, and I wish the esthetician had explained how it would impact my session beforehand. Transparency is key in customer service, and unfortunately, that was lacking here. I have a love hate relationship with massage envy. Partly because they don't disclose their policies fully while you enroll for membership and they are very pushy in wanting you to be a member. Once you are a member you have 3 days from the day you joined to cancel it otherwise you are in a contract for a year and then it's month to month(which I still don't understand to be honest). While you are a member they tell you all rosy stories about how it's flexible after a year and you can make it month to month meaning you can just walk in and pay for the services but no it's not like that. Month to month in their "terms" means after a year you can cancel your membership anytime. Now depending on who you talk to this answer changes is what annoys me. Atleast if they were consistent with their answer then I would be a little less miffed. So the bad rating is for the management and the money making machine this massage chain is. In terms of the services, I also had best to ok experiences here. The massage which they have here is not deep tissue and the pressure is mostly medium to firm which is not good enough for me. Atleast their masseuse are well trained, professional and the facility is clean. In terms of facial I have had amazing sessions sometimes based on the aesthetician and sometimes after the facial I have also felt like nothing was done. Depends on which aesthetician you get so I would recommend try and stick with your go to person. Regarding the coupons which they provide, be sure to use them before the expiry which doesn't make sense sometimes as they expire within the first 2-3 months and if you don't visit the facility 3 times within that time then you lose it. Couple of times I was told by the masseuse that they won't be doing the hand exfoliation treatment during the session even though before the start of the session they agreed to do it. Also I feel it's really pricey for the service you get. At the end they don't ask you whether you want to tip or not but instead they ask you how much tip would you like to give, sometimes if you haven't gotten a good service and you are miffed you cannot chose to not tip. And if you tip anything less than 15% sometimes then the person at the reception kinda reminds you to increase it and make it 15%. Overall just waiting for my membership contract to finish to get rid of this stress in my life. read more

This Massage Envy location is very clean and the staff are friendly and ready to help. I came to this location for a facial. I like the products they use and was satisfied with my facial. What I'm not happy about is how if you are there for first time you get told how you need all this extra stuff, even if you really dont. Also if you are looking for extractions to be done, they won't do your entire face to get you to come back. I recently joined Massage Envy, at the East Rutherford location. I visited the Clifton location on 5/15/21 and had an appt with Juan. Lets keep in mind one thing first: i have had many massages over the years and had great experiences at East Ruth. the techniques used by Juan were not good. he was rough, lacked compassion in his manipulation of the body and didnt listen to what I stated at the beginning. I specifically stated medium, addressed siatica and frozen shoulder. These areas were ignored and the level was so hard that i was in pain the entire time and left in pain. I didnt arrive in pain. Listening to a clients needs is essential. Juan while during the massage while he kept tucking the cover, he pulled on my skin with pain each time due to his roughness. Pretty simple huh? Well, it was dreadful. Compassion, a gentle touch and relief are key when getting a massage. juan provided none of these. Go to East Rutherford. Pawel and lyle are great. Stay away from juan in the clifton location. In additon, the massage was scheduled and paid for for 60 minutes. it ended at under 45 minutes. read more

I've been coming to this Massage Envy in Clifton for over two years now and I must admit - I've only been disappointed two times. I figured it was time for me to write a review and provide the secrets to a great experience at this particular branch. (1) ALWAYS book a 90-minute massage. You are ensured at least 80 minutes of bliss and believe me, it makes a difference. Your therapist will spend all the time in the world targeting the areas that are troubling you. I find the 60-minute (really 50 minute) massages to be a tease. They're not enough and seriously leave you wanting more. Advice: Spend the $$ to get the extra half hour, or let one of your membership massages 'pile up' and use half for the next two sessions. (2) Stay away from the hot stone massage. Don't believe the hype. It's not fantastic and your therapist will spend more time placing hot towels and rocks on you than actually massaging you. Not worth it unless you're really into this kind of therapy. (3) Don't be afraid to tell your therapist EXACTLY what you want. If something is bothering you - speak up. He or she will target the area that is giving you pain and will work to relieve the issue. If you don't say anything, you can't walk away disappointed with your experience. Advice: As your therapist is working on you - if you need more or less pressure - say something. They will adjust to what you want. (4) Find a therapist you like and STICK WITH HIM/HER! It make take a few go-arounds, but eventually, you will find the therapist that clicks with you. Schedule appointments with that person monthly because they will learn what you like and attend to your needs. Recommendation: Liliana or Angela. Liliana gives you a deep massage and is not afraid to put pressure on the spots that need it. Angela is fantastic. She has been the only therapist that actually provided me relief from serious sciatic pain. Customer service at the reception area is wonderful. Friendly, fast and always helpful. Waiting room can get busy on the weekends, but schedule at off-times and you won't hit the crowds. Drink a lot of water afterwards and enjoy. Massage Envy may be a chain, but this one in Clifton is a gem. Search for your diamond in the rough there! read more

This is a hit or miss place. I am 2 for 3 on good massages. Costumer service has been nothing but excellent, polite and knowledge, especially Katherine, who is especially warm and welcoming. There are some masseuses who will listen to your body and really give you a good massage, then there are others who are less invested. There is complementary tea, which can get you relaxed, but don't drink too much before your massage as it can be uncomfortable to have a full stomach and get a massage. I am going here for deep tissue as prescribed by a sports medicine Doctor to help with posture. Chantay has my highest recommendation. She does both general deep tissue and more specific area trigger point massage which has helped my spasmed back muscles and knots in my neck/back. I am seeing real progress with her. So I had a 1 hour stretch and a one hour massage booked with this Massage Envy. After 15 minutes I could no longer bear the uncomfortableness. The therapist continue to tell me about all the books she read on stretching rather than actually doing any of the stretches. Even though the 2-hour massage was already bought and paid for I could no longer stand another minute of the uncomfortable torture. I tried to escape through the back but since this has probably happened before it was rigged with an emergency alarm. So 15 minutes into this 2 hour massage I finally escaped with no major scars but trauma about using this facility or any other massage envy ever again. read more

Like other Massage Envy locations, this one is just as clean, and just as nice. The one problem I have here, is that the lobby is VERY noisy, and not relaxing at all. I gave ME another chance and booked in Clifton with Mounia. I entered and was greeted by the front desk staff who were welcoming. My session went well. Mounia uses deep pressure and will focus on problem areas. She is receptive on pressure and wants you to find relief. I booked for another session and will be back on my monthly routine. read more

I have been a member at Massage Envy for 3 years now and I can honestly say that getting the month to month membership has been one of the most relaxing and indulgent experiences I have ever had. After an experience with some stress/anxiety issues coupled with sinus problems last spring, I convinced my husband to join with me. The man who was adamant that couples massage "wasn't his thing" has done a 180. After our massages this week he actually thanked me for the brillant idea i had to join month to month! I see alot of the other reviewers mentioned that the one hour massage is really 50 minutes and that is accurate; the therapist gives you the time to undress/dress or speak about your needs. My husband and i have have done 90 minutes massages as well and it's a real treat. i am having my first facial next week and I'm excited to review those services as well. I have always found the front desk helpful; they have been accomodating about any requests I have, they assisted me in transferring a massage to a family member from my month to month stash, they are concerned about making every experience great for their clients, and the manager, Howard, is amazing. I had a question on one of my billings and he patiently explained it all to me. He was so sweet and pleasant to work with; you can tell he cares about each client experience. My husband and I have used several therapists and they've all been wonderful - amoung our favorites are Ichika, Linda, Victoria, Halina, and Suzanne. As other reviewers mentioned, get there early. I can't stress enough that the parking at the promenade shops is difficult. The last thing you want to worry about is missing half a massage while driving through the parking lot. Massages are mediocre at best. They always start 10-15 mins late from appt time and don't make up the time. Also take note when you ask for 90 mins you are only getting 80 mins hands on. Had an appointment for a massage, however when she heard I was looking for a medium to strong massage because of problem areas she was able to accommodate me with another therapist whom was able to help. Massages were great, and the therapists listened to everything, working in the areas of need. However, it only takes one time, just one bad experience for me to not return, and I had that today. I called to make an appointment, when Joe answered the phone. I said I would like to make an appointment. He asked if this was my "first time or if I was a member". I replied that I was not a member nor was it my first time. I also mentioned that I had a gift certificate for this visit...He quite snarkily replied, "well then, even with the gift certificate you will have to pay full price." I told him I was aware of that and asked for a specific therapist....he said that she was booked at the time I wanted the appointment and continued in a very hurridly and nasty manner to say "aaannnd, she doesn't work on weekends and is only here till 2." Joe, you need some manners on how to speak to a client when they call and need to be respectful. The Massage Envy in East Rutherford will now be getting my business, as the very plesant person I spoke with today, was very accommodating and respectful. I've been a member at this Clifton location for at least 6 years. I've only had one not-so-good massage. There has always been a high rate of turnover here for some reason, and they don't have many male MT's anymore (I prefer male MT's because when you say firm swedish, you actually get a really FIRM swedish.) Out of ALL of the MT's that I've had since becoming a member only Radek, Marisa and Linda remain. They are wonderful so you won't be disappointed. Rating this location purely on horrible customer service. I can't even rate this place on their actual services because as a would-be first time customer, I never got to have my facial done. I walked in and was told my 11am appointment was cancelled and there was no one available to see me. Yes, I called the day before and asked if there was anything earlier, due to another conflicting appointment, but was told there was nothing earlier and I accepted my 11am. At NO POINT did I ask for my appointment to be cancelled . "It must have been a miscommunication over the phone" yes OBVIOUSLY.
