Last year, my husband and I decided to get a membership, at first the front desk receptionists were friendly and professional, but after a few months they gave attitude, were very rude and it seemed that they need customer service training. They need some more knowledge of the company's policy, and they need to have communication between them. All the therapists are great, but since we felt unwelcome, we decided to cancel our membership. I think is better to go back once every year instead of monthly service. read more

I've been coming here for close to a year and it's been a good experience. Today however, was probably the best experience ever! Sarah Bordash was an amazing masseuse who somehow, someway, worked a miracle on my neck that was killing me the last couple of days! She was thorough and would ask if the pressure was fine while really targeting my problem areas. Her advice and tips afterward were highly appreciative and she comes across very warm almost motherly :) Just overall good vibes from her along with the best 60 minute massage i've ever had! I love having the same therapist each time at this location. I first joined in 2008 in College Park when they were building it and had the same therapist for 5 years. It's very hard to find the right therapist. Melanie in Crofton MD is great. The front desk is always nice, and being in customer service myself, I have high expectations, but College Park and Crofton Knock it out of the Park. I have never been to a chain massage spa before but thought, wth, let's try it. You can't beat the price - $49 for an hour massage. Actually it's $49 for your first massage. I decided to try this place out because of the great review that my boss gave for Massage Envy. Also, I know it's not a groupon special where every Tom, Dick and Harry are going to book all the good time slots. I called for an appointment today and they took a credit card over the phone to book for an appointment scheduled for the same day. If you didn't come to your appointment, they will charge you. At first I was kind of skeptical giving my credit card over the phone that wasn't a pizza or Chinese food joint, but I was in need of a massage. I booked a couples massage and the receptionist told me over the phone that if it was okay that one massage therapist was a dude and the other a female. Of course not because I had first dibs on the male therapist! Initially, my husband didn't want to go because he wanted to watch the AT&T National on the tube (Go Tiger!) because of his obsessiveness for Billy Hurley. I told him to dvr it and get over it. Anyway, we ended up listening to it on the PGA channel on our way there. I was really glad that we went to to the massage because on our way there, he was freaking out about not finding that channel on Sirius. Then he said that he gets first dibs on the male massage therapist and I get the female one. I know it sounds weird, but I guess we both like firm, hard pressure when it comes to massages. I know females can give good massages but I guess we didn't want to be the test dummy if she couldn't. You fill out a questionnaire about your health, what kind of pressure do you want, do you want your belly, ass and torso massaged? Any health problems or problem spots? Scored parking in front, check. Clean, sterile front office, check. Bathrooms were clean, check. Staff, nice and sweet, check. My massage - holyfuckingbatshit Robin! Off. the. chain. I felt like jello after. Check. Needless to say, I ended up with the dude and my husband got the female. They probably made that decision prior or what I was thinking was that poor dude didn't want to massage another hairy guys back, lol. Prior to the massage, they asked you if you had any concerns... Do you work at a desk job, sit on your ass all day? You undress where you want your therapist to massage you. So if you didn't take your bra off, he won't massage your back. Y'all know I was naked under the sheets! He gave me a full body swedish massage and he was wonderful. The massage table was heated comfortably. He massaged me from head to toe! Literally! I felt sooo relaxed. In fact so relaxed, we bought the membership. When the massage ended, my hair was disheveled, my eyeliner was smudged and I said loudly, I wish this was a 90 minute massage! If I was a smoker, I would probably have puffed on one after, lol. Yes, it was THAT good. You won't be disappointed with Massage Envy in Crofton. I confess, I have never before had a real facial so I wasn't sure what to expect, but when my birthday plans changed at the last minute, I thought I'd take a chance and see if they had an opening so I could treat myself. I called on Friday and was given an appointment for Saturday, perfect! I went in for the 90-minute facial with Denise, who was very friendly and informative, explaining the process and all of the products she was using. She made some recommendations on products available for purchase (as they always do in every salon I've ever been to), but there was no pressure to buy anything. I ended up signing up for their membership, and plan to use my next visit for a post-road trip massage. read more

Tim Arey is the BEST! Ladies if you don't mind a guy giving you a massage, and like firm pressure I highly recommend going with him. He's excellent, and has these great little things for making sure you're comfortable - i always get a warm neck pillow :) love it! I actually went in for what I thought would be my last appointment at Massage envy (can't really afford or justify the luxury anymore), but he kept me as a client at Massage envy way longer than I had anticipated. My boyfriend was going to surprise me with a massage at this location for my birthday. There was some confusion with the location and confirmation and needless to say, I never got my massage. Even after the explanation of what happened, they still charged him for a service that didn't happen. We went back through his email to ensure if there were any email confirmation for the appointment. He never got the email confirmation(s). He was nice enough to schedule a new appointment at the location we ended up at. They basically gave us the spa's protocol on what they do when someone has an upcoming appointment and what happens when a client is late. As far as I'm concerned, he never got the email confirmation as they told us or the reminder phone call the day before, not days before. This was a true disappointment and I truly feel bad that he was charged for something that wasn't fulfilled. read more

This location is extremely well run. Everyone is nice and courteous...I hate that they try to push products after my facials.

Price is really good, and enjoyed the massages. They seem to go thru people though, in one year of going there, have gone thru 4 different people as they keep leaving? Also, they are a little timid as a good deep knuckle grind into the butt cheeks is the best part, but they have to keep the blankets on (corp policy?) which detract. The front desk was warm and welcoming. The massage was umm, different. I didn't realize the elbow technique was something therapists actually used. The digging of an elbow in my back for a deep pressure massage was not really what I was expecting. Needless to say, I am bruised from the "deep pressure" elbow my back was subjected to. There were times I felt like the therapist was scraping the skin off of my back, it felt like a rub burn. I must admit, the massage was subpar. I received a gift card for Valentine's Day. I had never received a legitimate massage before, and I was pretty excited. The receptionist was welcoming. I filled out way too many things. I filled out a form online of what I wanted, I filled out a questionnaire on what I wanted when I arrived, and then the receptionist asked me again what I wanted. Now I don't know if someone ruined this for everyone, but I felt completely ignored. I walked into the room, and the vent above me literally dropped dust on me. The technician watched this happen and just said "oh I'll let them know." We didn't switch rooms. My technician didn't actually address the parts of my body I told her to take more time on (which was clearly emphasized after filling out forms multiple times as stated before). I was supposed to have an hour and only received 45-50 mins or so. There's literally a clock in the room. All around terrible experience. I finally was finished, and went to pay, and the receptionist literally wouldn't stop mentioning gratuity. I've worked in the service industry for years so I was planning to tip 20% regardless. I did so, but ugh I was angry. I have leftover money on that gift card, will be giving it to a friend. What a bad first massage. read more

I recently had my first professional massage in over 20 years at Elements Massage, in Crofton, Maryland. My first contact with Elements was when I called to schedule an appointment. I was trying to figure out how to go about requesting a female vs. a male therapist without sounding like a pervert when the receptionist ask, "What would you prefer, a male or female?" Now that the question was asked and answered, we had to find a convenient appointment time for both a female therapist and myself. Amanda was available so she became my therapist for the day. Arriving at the facility, I was greeted by a receptionist at the front desk who was welcoming, pleasant and professional. I immediately was made to feel at ease. After completing the paperwork, I browsed though an Element's binder that displayed information and background on each therapist who worked there. I immediately looked up Amanda's background and experience. Amanda was very good. She made me feel comfortable. She asked if I had any areas of concern and she paid particular attention to the areas that I identified. The atmosphere in the massage room was clean and comfortable. The lights were dimmed and the music was soft relaxing. The massage table was warm and comfortable. Not only did I enjoy the 55 minute massage, but also I enjoyed talking with Amanda. Our talk mostly centered around the information obtained about her in the Element's binder and her questions about me. I asked her what type of massage I was going to get and asked if it was Swedish? She indicated that it was not going to be Swedish but closer to a deep tissue massage. I enjoyed the deep tissue massage much more than the Swedish massage that I had experience 20 years earlier. She indicated that my muscles were very tight and that I needed to stretch more and get regular massages. She also recommended drinking plenty of water after the massage was completed. I am thinking about signing up for one of Element's monthly massage plans and yes Amanda will be my requested therapist. read more

Celia is an outstanding massage therapist. Over a couple sessions, she has relieved neck and shoulder issues that I've had for years. She is one of the few therapists I have found that can apply a wide range of pressures as needed. Her knowledge of anatomy is also impressive and she was able to diagnose the issue and treat accordingly. Others have not been able to do this. Will continue to see her regularly. read more

My husband purchased a 90-minute massage for my birthday. My appointment was at 10am with Marissa. I previously had a membership at Hand and Sone so I am very familiar with massage. This was by far the WORST massage therapy experience. When we called today (04/22/2017) and tried to explain our dissatisfaction the woman we spoke to, Shannon, literally tried to ARGUE with us. As if my negative experience was not valid because "Marissa is an RN, we thought she would be a good match for you...she said you needed a 2-hour massage, 90 minutes was not enough" according to the notes. What did that have to do with my experience? I am the customer and if the customer was this unhappy, you don't try to argue with them. Horrible. Then Shannon said the best she could do was offer a 60 minute massage at a "discounted" rate of $50. So On top of the $90 we already spent you expect us to pay $50? NEVER, EVER will I go to ME again or recommend to anyone. read more

I tried to put in for an appointment online and received no response, I tried to call and was sent to a random voicemail, not one that even identified Massage Envy. So,I went into the location and asked if I could get an appointment for a massage, the young man next to the woman who was speaking with me was reaching into his shirt scratching his armpit. The woman in front of me appeared to have no idea that they even had an online appointment system and seemed to to be unaware of any phone calls. I have been to the Annapolis and Severna Park locations many times before, going once or twice a month for the past two years. I called the Crofton location since I was going to be in the area to see if they had an opening and they did. I always ask for someone who is better at deep tissue and the woman on the phone, said Amber would be great and they had an opening that worked. Amber seemed very since and we talked about how I like deep pressure which she said was not problem, had me point out any specific areas, where I told her that my neck and back are always tight. She went over her plan and told me to start face down. I always make sure I'm on time but my actual massage did not start until 20 minutes after my scheduled time. Then she started to work on my feet and legs while I was face down. Again, I have been to the other locations many times so I know what is suppose to happen. It felt like a child with wet hands was leaning on me and drawing letters on my legs. No pressure at all, so I asked for her if she could provide more pressure, which would be great. She "did" - not only was she not even pressing on any muscles but when she tried to "massage" my back, she was running her elbow over my bones, not muscles. I tried to point out a specific location but it was unless at that point. She was a very nice person so I did have the heart to tell her how bad it was. And to add to that, she only "massaged" me for 25 minutes when the normal massage should be 40-50 minutes during an hour long appointment. This was by far the worst massage I have ever received, I felt much worse after - clearly not relaxing. I still left a tip because she did provide a service but it was not my normal tip amount. I called and asked for the manager, I explained to the woman who claimed to be the manager what happened and how bad the massage was. I was not being rude and stated a couple times that Amber was very nice and polite but maybe she needed more training or should not do deep tissue massage. Where she rudely said, "that is funny because she is one of our top three requested." I expressed my doubt and was told the general manager would call me in 1-2 days but three days later nothing. I was not even going to request a refund or write a post on here but the management at this location is a huge problem! I hope the proper changes are made and the staff receives more needed training and better customer service. I will never return to this location and I will tell everyone I know to never step foot in this location but travel to Annapolis or Severna Park, where the manager Lisa is often there and very personable. read more

The front desk staff needs extensive training on their scheduling and payment systems and the managerial staff needs frequent customer service training. The massage therapists and estheticians are the only ones effectively doing their job well. My senior citizen mother is a member there and will occasionally gift me a service, by either purchasing a service for me (that's kept on file in their system) or by transferring one of her member services to me (also kept on file). EVERY SINGLE TIME I'm there I'm ALWAYS told there's nothing on file showing that my mother has paid in advance for my service and that I would have to pay. And every single time I end up staying extra long asking them to please troubleshoot the situation because the payment and all relevant information is in their system somewhere. Usually, after about 20 minutes they'll find it in their system and I'll hear, "Oh, here it is." Then, I'm finally able to tip the therapist and leave. However, last weekend was the last and finally straw. After my service, I was told ONCE again that the system showed no advance payment. The employee searched and searched and found nothing. I was frustrated, yet very patient with her because I knew the info was in their system, but she never found it. I reluctantly paid and left. I explained what happened to my mother and we did a three-way call with the assistant manager, Shannon. I explained the situation to Shannon and she agreed to refund my credit card because the mistake was on their end, but she was also quite defensive and implied that since she found my mother's payment information in their system with no problem, then surely the employee saw it too and so it must have been my fault if I pulled out my credit card and paid because I didn't have to. HUH? I'm pretty sure if the employee saw that my service was taking care of she would have told me that and would NOT have taken my credit card. Shannon then acted as if they were doing me a favor by saying, "Well, the system shows you were gifted a service a few months ago at the introductory price, so technically your mom's gift should have been at the regular price this time anyway." So, basically we should have just been happy we paid less and not worry about a credit card that was swiped unnecessarily; or the fact that she just discovered yet ANOTHER employee error (by charging my mother the wrong price for my gift). And, nevermind the overall inconvenience of the experience I went through for the THIRD time. Be advised, they are ONLY helpful when things are going well. As soon as there is an error on their end, or they just can't "locate" something simple in a system they ALL should be proficient in, good customer service flies right out the window.
