She started late, ended early and was literally huffing and puffing during the session (not very relaxing for anyone) she also didn't use any pressure and it was obvious she must have had a long day because she was rushing and hardly applying any pressure which I had paid extra for. The gm Tim had called us after I placed a review and claimed he would get us another session but nothing ever came of that... just steer clear of this place and go to a private massage therapist instead. The worst customer service I've ever experienced. I booked two appointments for the same time: one for me and one for my husband for a special day for him. The morning of, Massage Envy called to cancel my husband's appointment. He was the whole reason we were even doing this. When I tried to call to cancel my appointment, I spent an hour getting transferred around and having no one pick up (someone must have been there to have called and cancelled my husband's appointment). When I finally did speak to someone, she said I was going to have to pay the cancellation fee even though they were the ones who cancelled one of the appointments. I understand having a cancellation fee policy, but this woman was rude and completely unhelpful. After she hung up on me, I started the whole process again of calling back. I finally got through to someone who took care of it after apparently the first woman talked to her. I had reservations about going to a chain like this in the first place, and this proves why. Staff is completely unfamiliar with services or prices. I showed screen shots from the website and they were clueless. Tech was wearing a smock/lab coat that looked like she slept in it and needed to be washed. Confirmed appt via text more than 5 times within 2 days. The day before I spoke to a receptionist at this location and she did not know anything about the service I wanted. When I referred her to the ME website she still did not understand. When I actually was taken to the room for the service the tech did not understand what I wanted (again it is all over their website) and then finally said "oh we do not do that at this location". Even after I spoke to them directly they again sent a text confirming appt. Really pathetic on all counts. BTW they are all about trying to sell over priced products. read more

I was a member at Massage Envy in Niskayuna since 2018. I decided to cancel my membership in October of this year and was given till 1/1 to use up my remaining services. I used up a few but my last service has been cancelled by massage envy four times in a row this month. The manager claims an extension to use my service cannot be granted. I am very frustrated and feel as if my appointments are being cancelled due to the fact that I cancelled my membership. Very disappointing customer service. Due to this experience with the management I would not recommend a membership here. It would cost a business nothing to provide me with a few more weeks to use a service I've already paid for. They can see that each appointment scheduled based on my availability has been cancelled- squeezing me into an inconvenient time slot is not good customer service. While I planned on still using their services in the future this end of membership experience has definitely changed my mind. read more

I needed some help cause my muscles were all strained and I was stressed. After a bit of research I decided to do a full hour body stretching session with Jessie. She's a fitness/yoga instructor and really into what she does which usually goes along with being good at what you do. At the end of my session my headache that I was sporting disappeared and my neck ache felt a lot better!! I would definitely recommend these guys especially since I went ahead and signed up for a 6 month membership!! Added bonus I was actually visiting from out of town and forgot my scarf. I told them to cancel my contract and what did they do? They continue to take money out starting three months ago again. I was a member there for many years (Niskayuna NY site), and up until now would have given them a decent review. Not 5 star by any means, but decent. I was lucky and found a good LMT (if you find a good one, it's a good deal, but you have to deal with the corporate BS - not wellness first, corporation first). A year ago, I asked to cancel my membership due to a health issue. Just found out, after they charged my account TODAY that my membership was only frozen, not canceled. They said they left me a voicemail in January telling me that I will be getting billed, but I don't remember seeing it and if I did I probably deleted it because I probably thought it was a robocall. Anyway, now they won't refund me my money...despite the fact that I was a member for many years, always on time for my appointments, sent them other members, was a high tipper... unless I have a doctors note (from my surgery last year), AND CANCELED MY SERVICE 1 YEAR AGO! I guess I should be lucky they are letting me cancel. Don't let the cheap massages sway you...it ends up costing you more in the end. I am a frequent spa goer and received a gift card from a co-worker to this establishment. I called and gave my credit card number over the phone as I was told this is required in order to hold an appointment and it will be charged if I am late or a no show. I was advised to arrive 15 minutes early as I did, and filled out the required paperwork. I was then informed that my aesthetician that I was originally booked with was "running late to work" (I was the first client of the day). So I was given Sara. She was very nice as a person, however her work was not. I received a facial and could barely feel anything. I asked if she could apply more pressure and she did not recommend that stating that "it is not good" I was laying there thinking what a waste of time and that I was bored. Next was the extraction process, I was surprised that she used her bare hands using her fingernails and a tissue to remove blackheads! She informed me this was the "policy of the salon as needles and lancer tools can cause scarring and lawsuits if someone is injured". This was the longest hour ever, this was not relaxing or enjoyable at all. Upon leaving I paid using my giftcard and tip in cash, the associate Meghan G. forgot to enter in my giftcard and told me the total. I explained to her I had handed it to her, and she had a look of confusion on her face, and then realized it was in her hand. Meghan then said that I needed to call the number on the back of my giftcard to get the balance, and they could not get that information. Luckily another girl overheard and came to help, she said there was a way to do it, but wasn't exactly sure how to. So I waited almost 10 minutes for them to figure it out. Finally I was able to leave. When I arrived home, all of my blackheads were still present and my face did not have that usual spa glow that I get. I am so glad I did not have to fully pay for this visit as it was a complete waste of my time. There are many other Spas that charge less that have exceptional service. This Massage Envy Location has a new manager. You will find the establishment clean like you have never seen, even the 1/2" of dust is gone That was all over the walls,the floors, and the carts. If you were accustom to walking into this establishment and not smelling perfume you will be surprised by the stench of perfume that emanates out of the building as you open the outer front door. I was forced to stand outside in 90° weather due to the heavy perfume inside the building. But after five minutes I went back in and asked if I couldn't sit in a room that had air-conditioning until my appointment. I was told no and I was forced to go stand outside. I wonder what the two women who are there for massages thought when they saw what had transpired. The woman in charge came outside to talk to me and told me why didn't I go sit in my car? I told her that I paid $3.21 a gallon for gas and I'm not wasting it when she has an air condition building. She told me that in the future to not come early and I should arrive at the exact time of my massage so that they could clear a path so I could run through the building to a safe area where I could breathe without taking in the chemical odors. I suffer from Cough Variant Asthma which is triggered by chemical odors. Apparently when the woman took over, she started using aromatherapy per the companies guidelines or so she said. It's much further than I would normally go, so I told them up front there was no way I was going to become a member because it's just too far away. That seemed to stop them from the hard sell. Joel was my massage therapist and he did a great job. I really enjoyed the massage, even though their hour massage is really only 50 minutes. Like some of the other reviews say, they will try to sell their membership to you, but in my experience they were not pushy about it, they just told you about the benefits and did not keep going after you declined. I had the pleasure of a friend gifting me a facial as she is a member here and can gift out a massage, facial for a certain amount of money. I booked an appointment for a facial with Kim, who was wonderful by the way. When I booked, they asked me all sorts of questions, who gifted it, their phone number etc etc. Finally after 10 minutes it was settled. They booked me a 90- minute facial . The day b fore they called me and confirmed the 90- minute facial and I made sure to ask, it's gifted correct? Yes was their response. The day came and I was so looking forward to it. Got there and checked in at the front desk. Said they had no record of my booked facial. I had to sit there and explain how it was gifted last year to me blah blah blah. After 15 minutes of waiting, they finally agreed to the facial although I'm not sure they found it in their system or not. The facial itself was wonderful and Kim was very professional and nice. I tipped her well and proceeded to the desk to check out. They asked me how everything was and I said lovely and they said, your balance is 20.00! I said, WHAT? This facial was gifted. Their response was , an hour facial was gifted, you had a 90- minute facial !!!!! Now, mind you, they never told me there was a charge for 90 minutes nor did they tell me I was gifted an hour facial. This is why I am giving the sneaky place two stars. The gal at the desk was very rude to me! I threw my 20.00 at her and said, this place is very sneaky to your own advantage. This place is awesome. The staff in the lobby is great. They communicated very well with me about what i was looking for out of them. This was the first time i ever got a professional massage and i walked out of there feeling excellent. Totally refreshed relaxed and almost like a new person. I would go there once a week if i was able to. The staff is great and very friendly. Also very knowledgeable. They were able to answer any and all questions i had. I get that it's their thing to push programs for repeat visits, but the woman who was with me used incredibly pushy sales techniques and was borderline rude, and definitely abrasive. Wish I remembered her name so that I could call and speak to her manager. I'm bummed because I would think about going back another time, but I get a massage to be pampered not to be harassed. Don't be lured by promotional introductory pricing. This is a high pressure contract driven outfit that you should avoid. Turnover in both management and staff is horrendous. Most massage therapists are inexperienced and don't provide satisfactory sessions. Contracts they try to force on you are very onerous and they will not let you out based on their poor service. read more

That being said, the sales lady who forces you to meet with her immediately following your services is so pushy, annoying and abrasive, you instantly lose any feeling of relaxation. After dealing with this lunatic for 15 minutes and repeating over and over that I didn't want a membership, I decided to spend all my left over giftcard money on murad products because I knew I would never come back. Terrible! Terrible massage with no pressure and terrible facial, no extractions and layed there with a mask on that was starting to drip into my eyes as the girl was writing in the recommendations packet what she used on me. I heard about the products the whole time and never relaxed. The girl asked if needed more pressure and I said yes and never got it. The big kicker is this: Got the whole speal (I was prepared as I had a previous massage) about joining, etc....THEN..... I went to pay using my gift card that my daughter purchased for me months in advance two cards, one for a facial and one for a massage and they told me because I already visited (the massage) I was now a non-member and would have to make up the difference. The card for the massage is $49.99. I had to pay another $40 to make up the difference. My daughter was NEVER told this when she purchased both cards at the same time. Never! I paid the amount and left. I called my daughter and she was so upset. I have since put a call into speak to management. The girl who answered said management was available but wanted to know the issue. After explaining, she put me on hold to speak to so called management. Then she came back on the phone and said someone would get back to me in a few days. I asked why in a few days and she said no one was there to speak to. This place is so UNPROFESSIONAL. I would not recommend going to massage envy in Niskayuna, I was excited to start my process in pampering myself in feeling relaxed and refreshed because I work long hours. I was sold on some membership where I would get discounts and benefits ( never was TOLD this was a 12month fee ) . Long story short my first day there was the WORST, the staff was rude and talked about their holiday party at lucky strike the whole time, once one of the rep noticed I was sitting there for over 20 mins , she then greeted me and asked if I had apt, advised I did and she stated ohh your a new member you have to fill out paperwork , which I had to rush through because I felt that my therapist was already late 15 mins from my appt. After my message I felt really bad tension in my back and neck and I complained how it smelt like smoke in the room ( because I think the therapist came back from a smoke break , prob why she was late ) anyways nothing was done . so I complained about service another time and was advised to try a different office, which I did in Slingerlands and I decided to do a facial since my back hurt so much after the first experience. This person was on time , but I did feel rush , the facial session on lasted 30 mins, and she never cleaned my face , after I told her I still had make up ,.. I felt pushed into things that I wasn't comfortable in , when I keep explaining I have sensitive skin , but you don't clean my face before your using the machine . TERRIBLE service all around.. So then I speak to business manager FRANK and Lindsey and wasn't being heard at all . Went in for their intro rate of $49 for a 1 hour massage. The girl at the front desk was friendly. She informed me that my therapist Anna was running about 5 minutes behind, but I was fine with that. About 10 minutes after my massage was supposed to start, Anna came out and brought me to one of the rooms in the back. I've had many massages and know the procedure, but she was very thorough in explaining everything to me. The room size and decor was typical, nothing elaborate but nice and clean. I liked how there was a clock in the room. It turns out the 1-hour massage is only 50 minutes. She did an ok job. I prefer slow long strokes, but her movements seemed too fast and it was difficult to get that relaxing feeling. I would go back, but would ask for a different therapist. read more

I was in the process of canceling when I told the front desk woman i was already charged for this month. I requested a refund as I was not going to be able to use any services that month. buyer beware!!!! massage envy is the biggest rip off!!! i treated myself for a facial and massage for my birthday. needless to say, prior to the services i relentlessly and vulnerable signed up for their membership. the facial estetician was a girl seemed to be about 16 years old and fresh out of school couldn't feel that i was getting a facial. the products they use are off of a info mercial and try to push their products for 20 times more than if i bought off of TV. i broke out in a rash and the products smelled so0000 bad.. couldn't wait to get home and wash that crap off my face but i had a massage scheduled right after wards. big sigh!! the massage therapist was also inexperienced and awkward for me having such a young girl touching me. those products stunk in odor as well. i couldn't get out of there quick enough. as i was trying to escape they tried selling me the crap they used on me. to top it off they discussed in front of poor victims in the waiting room my problem areas. wtf??????? just let me out of here!!!!!!! now I'm stuck in a membership and provided 3 doctors notices why i cannot continue my membership. they will not refund they 2 months which they charged me for and to transfer to friends or family they charge an additional $10.00 each. again, wtf?????? oh and you only have one month to use them. all i can say is do not, let me repeat, do not sign up for membership!!!! if you want a fantastic facial go to runi's on western ave.....for massage go anywhere but here!!!!! go to groupon and you can get great pricing and professional services from reputable spas...... buyer beware!!!!! read more

I did not like my experience at massage envy in niskayuna. I was told to get there 15 minutes before apt. To get basic medical background information. After filling out form and going over any concerns or point of massage interest, I was told to sit and wait for my massage therapist. Well wait and wait I did. Three other people came in after me and were taken in to their therapist before me. Eventually (10 minutes) into my massage hour I was taken to my room. The room was typical massage room with dim lighting and relaxation music. I went over specific points of interests I wanted worked on and unclothed and laid under sheets on massage bed for what I thought would be a relaxing massage. Long story short.....my specific points of interests I wanted worked on received little to no atention all while being told that I would benefit from a deep tissue massage and that I may wamt to consider coming back for that. To which I asked if two areas of body work could be worked on during deep tissue massage. I was told no. I'd have to come teo more times. Anyway, my biceps, triceps hands, upper quads or hamstrings were never touched. What the heck is that about?Also, the therapist kept looking at the freaking clock as to make sure she didn't go over that magical hour. Mind you, I lost first ten minutes of massage due to center feeling like a factory line with people being told to sit and wait. The therapist also felt mechanical. Her strokes were short and stacatto. No long strokes and short time spent on muscle groups. It gets better. I added a ten dollar sugar foot scrub which took up last five minutes of massage or less. Your feet get wrapped in hot moist towels which was the only nice experience of foot scrub. Then a simple scrub is applied to feet and rubbed only one time and removed. In other words, the therapist only made one circular motion on each foot and proceeded to remove sugar. This massage did nothing for me. I felt as if the therapist was rushing the hour, looking at clock non stop and avoided important parts of my body. I felt cheated and my boyfriend felt horrible as he purchased this gift certificate as part of my anniversary surprise. Last but certainly not least, the girl that checked me out dragged my chech out experience trying to get me to become a member where i would get great monthly massages at lower cost.s. NOT!!!
