I'm giving this place 3 stars. I had feet problems that accumulated from years and years of stress and ankle sprains. The lady that massaged them REALLY did a very good job. It did hurt sometimes, but like I said, I had years of stress and ankle sprains, so that was expected. The only thing that stopped me from doing a 5 star review is that they claim 20% gratuity for an hour body massage, that's $40, is $12. My 1 hour foot massage was $35, so 20% of $35 is $7, so I gave $42 to them and they looked at me weird for not doing a $12 gratuity. They did tell me not to worry and I went on my way, but when I did some math on the way home, I noticed that they're claiming 30% gratuity as 20%. They really need to fix the gratuity pricing cause it seems like they're scamming people more than 20% for gratuity. read more

This massage was great! Definitely not as fancy as other spas I have been to, but I will for sure be going back. I got the 90 min deep tissue massage and it left my body feeling much less tense. The massage therapist was very thorough, and spent time on each part of my body, knowing where to give extra attention without me even telling her. I opted-in to the hot stone treatment which was lovely. Throughout the massage, she made sure I wasn't in any pain, which is very important in a deep tissue. Overall amazing experience. I am really grateful to have found this place! :) There is a very simple intake process on their site, allowing you to enter info about what is needed and schedule appointments readily. Appointment confirmation is received quickly via SMS or email. I have been to see Jessica twice. She is very strong and skilled. I extended my 90 min massage to 120 minutes mid-massage because it felt so good and I was getting so much relief from my muscle tightness. The excellent pricing didn't hurt either! She was also good enough to add hot stones (no add. charge) and incorporate some stretching/body lengthening techniques. Most staff there, including my therapist Jessica speak only words of English so you will need to be a bit patient. I do not mind this as my objective is to experience a therapeutic and relaxing massage. They deliver on this in spades. Don't be shy about asking for greater or less pressure either. They do understand this (harder/softer) and will adjust to your liking. The salon is clean and decor is simple. Massage rooms are warm and tables are heated. My first time there it was quiet except for low relaxing music. The second time I found myself a bit annoyed by two ladies who work there carrying on a full conversion within earshot of my massage room. Since this is such a simple courtesy, it is my primary reason for rating 4 stars, instead of 5! Normally, I would have just asked them to keep it down, but doing so mid-massage with a language barrier would have been more trouble than it was worth to me. Massage prices here are very low, but they do expect a sizable tip so they are fairly compensated for their work. I do not mind this at all, as even with a good tip, prices are super affordable. I came in for lower back pain on my birthday. The massage I got focused on other areas, and minimal attention given to my lower back. Almost no work done there. The quality of the rest of the massage was excellent though. But I walked out of the massage still unable to walk and move easily, excruciating lower back pain. Would add one more star for massage quality except people weren't kidding about them being pushy about tipping! They wanted a 30% tip at minimum! I was told I could pay with credit card for a fee but no - you can only withdraw cash with an ATM card for a fee, and I didn't have one with me. So I gave them all the cash I had in my wallet, a 25% tip, and they still shoved their stupid placard in my face. Birthday shame was not what I wanted. I carried that feeling around all day! Also only one employee speaks English. The rest have very minimal vocabulary, so maybe that's why I got an upper back massage when I needed a lower back massage? Either way, not the birthday present I expected to give myself... Do not get the first room closest to the desk; you can hear literally every single thing. read more

Highly recommend. The process of booking a massage was very easy. I filled out the form online and was able to get a next day booking. I didn't realize when I booked that the parlor is cash only - there is an ATM right in the lobby if you find yourself in the same boat as me. The parlor itself is fairly minimalist, but it was clean so I'm not complaining. Okay, to the good stuff. When I got there, I was checked in on an iPad, at first they struggled to find my res but after a moment it was located. When I was shown to the massage room the masseuse let me in, didn't say anything, and was about to leave the room. I asked what I was supposed to do (I was assuming take off my clothes and get under the blanket, but I'm used to being told that.) Turns out we had a minor language barrier. She was eventually able to communicate to me that this was the time to disrobe and get under the blanket. She left the room, allowing me the opportunity to do so. I got under the blanket and it was heated!! It's winter - so that was a plus. She came in and began massaging and, I have to be honest, it was great. Even though we couldn't communicate much, she found all of the issue areas and worked them out. She also did a hot stone massage which was so nice. My only minor complaint was that some of the rubbing left my skin feeling sore - I'm wonder if I might prefer the 60 minute massage (instead of the 90 minute one I got). I would say the massage was ok, nothing great. The issue I had is that they count the time from when you get there & not from when the actual massage starts, which means my 60 min was actually only 45 min. There are a few different rooms but they're pretty thin walls, you can hear other people talking & since right on Mass Ave, you hear all the noise outside since there is no music or white noise for relaxing. I think they probably do the same type of massage on everyone no matter what. There was not the much being done aside from long back & forth movements primarily on your back. Not sure why that was the focus but doing the same for a long period of time wasn't great. There are so many different type of massages of course & each person has a different way of doing it. Since English is not the primary language it was hard to communicate certain things. So take your chances considering cost & massage ebing alright. read more

Great, cheap massage. That alone probably deserves a 4 star rating. One thing that turned me off was that (upon learning that I was Korean, not Chinese), the two women who were giving me and my friend massages started talking in Chinese about our bodies and called my legs fat. Apparently, they didn't think we knew any Chinese. Ain't NO shame in fat legs, but it turned me off that they decidedly commented about them after trying to ensure that we didn't understand them (although, uh, fail). I've had other massages here that didn't come with those comments and probably will visit in the future, but it was certainly a disheartening experience. Massages should be relaxing, not a reflection of societal beauty standards! UPDATE: I went back to this location a few months ago. I think they marked me in the system as having written this review, because the masseuse (upon seeing my name) started talking to me in Chinese. Booked a 60 minute massage and everything started out great. Massage ended up being VERY deep tissue, but it's my fault for not asking them to lighten up on the pressure. The real issue was when we went to check out and we tried to tip $12 on a $40 massage and were told that was "not enough" and that the "recommended tip was a minimum of $14." We only had enough cash to give $12 tip, but a 30% tip for the no frills massage, we considered extremely generous. The woman basically told us we had to take more money out of the ATM because we should be tipping on the Massachusetts massage rate average of $70/hour. If you want a higher percentage, then raise your hourly rates? Don't bully your customers into giving you an extra $2 based on some fictional market rate you're citing. Would never return. read more

I had this lady name Jessica to gave me a wonderful massage. Jessica is very professional and actually pay attention to what she was doing, I'm glad I had her and I would definitely come back. I had so many massage experiences but this time was on the dot, I had read some comments about this place or the workers. I came here for deep tissue massage. I liked hard massage to release the stress in the muscle and this place is perfect! The masseuse was really skillful and applied full strength to all the spots that need to be relieved. She was nice and we had good conversation. I forgot to ask her name but she was from Yanbian, a northern city in China. Therefore, she practiced very traditional Korean-style massage. The price is really affordable even with tips. Just got a massage tonight and realized I never updated my review so now's a good time. I have to say.. I go a few times a month probably. I love it very much - it helps with my autoimmune condition and also with how I'm a fitness instructor and just need to loosen up the muscles. Quick update: I've been back about once per month and continued to have good experiences. I still highly recommend Massage Ultra to anybody who is okay with it not being a high end spa experience. Great massages at a great price! ------ I typically get a handful of massages per year, but normally they are at hotels or spas, so I wasn't sure what to expect. My massage was amazing! The location is clean and pretty new, but not fancy like a luxury spa such as Pyara in Harvard Square (also good massages, but 2-3 times the price). There weren't perfumed oils or hot towels as I've sometimes experienced at other places, but on all the most important ways this was just a great experience. The massage was fantastic, firm but not too firm. The price was incredible. My masseuse didn't speak much English, but she was friendly. Slight downsides: - Music turned off a couple times - One time a coworker opened the door to ask a question of my masseuse, didn't bother me but I could imagine some people might feel uncomfortable - Limited English - Cash only Upsides: - Online booking through their website or Yelp - Good location - Awesome massage - Incredibke With these great prices and quality I think I'll be getting massages more often. read more

I had a 60 minute deep tissue massage and enjoyed the experience. The environment was VERY clean and quiet and was greeted by my massage therapist. You will get a quick moment to review your intake form (which you need to complete to proceed to the actual appointment) before you are escorted to your room. One thing I especially liked besides the attractive pricing was the fact that I was able to get a quick appointment within 24 h of booking. My massage therapist was very pleasant and thorough, but I wish there had been more consistency with pressure and a bit more pressure overall. I'm a deep tissue 'veteran' and I usually feel the results immediately and then the full effect the next day, but this time around it felt more like a firm Swedish massage than a deep tissue massage. I left feeling relaxed but not like my muscles had really been worked through. Massage Ultra accepts cash only, and I'd recommend calculating your tip based on a typical 60-minute service. She listened carefully about how hard I needed the massage for my shoulders, and knew to adjust even more than what I communicated flr softer on my calves and glutes, based on my body's reaction. This was probably the best massage I've had in memory...My back feels healed and like a newborn baby's skin! The massage parlor was very clean and well maintained. I waited approximately 5 minutes to be shown to a room and in the meantime filled out a survey on where I would like the masseuse to concentrate and at what firmness. I indicated my legs and lower back at a hard strength, and it was indeed hard. The masseuse really dug deep into my muscles, which was much needed, and I had one of the best massages of my life. I am not new to massages, and a lot of mine have taken place in Asia, and I this massage was very much similar in style. The masseuse started warming up my body with a massage through a bedsheet and then transitioned to using oil for the deep tissue portion. The price of a 60 minute massage was $40. The massage itself was great, but you cant advertise a 90 minute massage for $70 and demand that a customer tip you more than 30%. If you are going to demand a certain amount then you should price the massage accordingly. I came here to have a nice massage and leave what I thought was a nice tip of $20 on $70, well over 20% and the two women demanded more and tried to make me feel bad. It got to the point when I said what amount of money will make you happy so I can leave? It was ridiculous. They had a sign that said to tip 20% which I did. Then when I referenced their sign they said it was old and from before the new year. I told them they need to change the sign to reflect that they demand a 30% tip. And they only accept cash. I don't know what this business is up to but I have never been a bad tipper and have never been hounded so badly for more money. And they try to play it off as a language barrier so you feel awkward not giving them more. Totally unacceptable. And no one in their right mind gives a 30% tip. I ended up giving the woman $100, and the woman offered to give me 5 dollars back. Wish I had read these reviews beforehand because it's clear that this business is exploitative. Despite the nice massage, I will never go back. Bring your business elsewhere. No one should be essentially guilted into coughing up a 30% tip. And they even watched me as I took the money out of the atm (which they conveniently didn't have a fee for, so that they could continue to make you go back to the atm to give them more money.
