I canceled my membership because I was having a hard time booking appointments with my preferred therapists. I had 6 massages on my account. I had two months to finish these out. I scheduled on time. Massage envy canceled 5 times in a month the massages I scheduled!! Clearly because I am no longer a paying customer they give my appointments to other customers. I saw Teng Zing and she was absolutely amazing. I've been working from home since the pandemic and I'm very much glued to my desk so my shoulders have been killing me. Teng Zing would make sure I comfortable, relaxed and warm in the heated sheets/table. She would adjust the lighting to be more dimmer at times and the music also made the atmosphere much more relaxing. She would ask me about the pressure and if I wanted more pressure. In addition, she knew my back, shoulders and neck were much more tight so she put more time and effort into those areas. I felt like I was in excellent care with her. read more

I had a rapid relief (30 minute) session with Tenzing and she was incredible! This location is clean, and the session was relaxing and helpful - Tenzing focused on my problem spots as requested and was responsive if I needed more/less pressure. The man who was my massage therapist burned my feet with the hot towels, exposed my genitals throughout the massage, and left out treatments that I had asked for in the reception. Not only was the experience bad, but upon complaint, management did nothing to fix the problem, and blamed me for being a "last minute customer". As if this person was doing me a favor. Marla, Marla, Marla! You've done it again my friend. What you ask? Worked your MARLA MAGIC to melt away all of that stubborn tension in my upper back & shoulders. The only thing that would be better is having you 24/7 (in my back pocket) and being able to whip you out whenever the tension starts to jack me up. I started my membership (4 year ago) at the North Station location but decided to go try Cambridge when my first therapist had to reschedule. Let's just say....my old former North Station person was "fired" after my first time having a session with Marla. At times when I'm unable to get an appointment with Ms. Magic fingers (she is booked and BUSY), I'll begrudgingly book with another location - only to come back to Marla laughing like "I don't know why I even tried, because they suck". You either have "the juice" or you don't. Marla has it, no question. *Please note* I have not tried another therapist at this location. So this review is biased and based on Marla. Preliminary review- First session was today and it was great! There was a short delay in starting as the session ahead seemed to run slightly over, but I could tell it was because Max was taking extra time to talk the customer through future appointments/needs. Max was knowledgeable, patient and clearly communicated through out the (60 min stretch) session. I was impressed and not surprised when, while checking out, I saw his name on the therapist of the year plaque at the counter. I read some less than stellar reviews but after doing some of my own research all the policies people took issue with are pretty clearly outlined on the website. I didn't feel pressured into a membership and when I mentioned I was interested the front desk was very helpful, clear and friendly. I'll be heading back for more. Thanks! read more

I feel like today is my massage review day. I just did one for another place and felt like I should do one for here as well. I don't hate or love this place. This place serves a purpose, fast and cheap-decent well put together space!!! Get in get out (50 minutes hands on). I don't feel nurtured here, I feel rushed and sometimes I felt like my therapist was overworked herself... I kept asking her for deep pressure and I didn't get much of a difference.... It's bad when you can feel that your MT is drained during your massage. It's not very relaxing. After my first massage I was bombarded with questions about membership... agh! Don't you know I am in my zen zone right now? Couldn't you ask me before hand so I could contemplate while I was on the table... and why try and hook me in? Let me think about it for a day or two, the chic just wouldn't take no. Well needless to say, I did sign up for the membership because at the time there was nothing else around with a better deal. I went to this facility when they first opened and then again a while after. I liked it better when they were newer, they tried harder and put more effort it. The therapists I liked had all left and moved on and they wouldn't tell you where they were going. Not very cool business practices. Massage is a very intimate experience and it's important to stay with therapists you are comfortable with and look forward to coming to see. After my last experience, I decided it wasn't for me. I had some membership issues. I noticed I was not on the optimal account type within hours of signing up, and tried to rectify the problem by phone, to no avail. I submitted this concern online and received a return email that proceeded to lay out multiple excuses and to why they could not provide me with any help. I only wanted to change to a different membership type, which would have been slightly cheaper but was NOT explained to me when I signed up. I was told "Once a membership is processed, there is no way to go back and edit it so unfortunately, there is nothing we can do..." They are attempting to use this arbitrary policy to absolve themselves of any responsibility to provide anything resembling customer service. It is now a week later and they have refused to fix the issue. At the very best interpretation, this was a miscommunication that ME refuses to fix. At its worst interpretation, I was purposely tricked into paying more $. Either way, ME has refused to provide even the minimal level of customer service needed in order to rectify the problem. read more

HORRIBLE customer service here! DO NOT sign up for a membership. It is a scam. I have not been able to book a session here for 6 months! They just charged me for another month outside of my contract and refuse to reimburse it regardless of the fact that the manager on duty told me my membership would expire after its last billing cycle. I called with the charge dispute last Thursday. No one responded; It is now Monday. Each time I called today the manager, Marquita, avoided my calls or left me on hold. I gifted my sister a massage from my account and they charged my account for the transfer as well as her card and still have not reimbursed her for the error! It has been 2 months. We have called many times to follow- up on the status of our claim and the manager only says she will "look into it". BTW- They recently lost a class action law suit against them because they did not honor existing massage credits once a membership is cancelled. The owners, Tony Marneza and Elise Tashigian refuse to assist their long-term patrons and it show. YOUR MONEY IS BETTER SPENT ELSEWHERE. read more

one LAST update to let people know about.... So I did not want to renew my membership. After all, I had not been happy with the service. So I went to cancel it. Then what was I informed of? Tat the FOUR HOURS of massage I have already paid for, i COULD NOT USE unless I extended my membership. Yes, even though they were already paid for, and I was unable to use them yet (oh my, sorry I blew out my knee), I COULD NOT use them, and woudl lose FOUR PREPAID HOURS AT $60 AN HOUR unless I extended my membership and KEPT PAYING THE $60/month! Was it in the fine print on the contract I signed 16 months earlier? Sure. Legally they had themselves covered. Were they doing the best thing for their customers for an independently owned franchise trying to maintain a customer base? Clean and cheap. The location's between a Trader Joe's and a computer supply store, so I wasn't expecting TOO much; good not great would've been fine. This massage was spectacular. I mean, knock your socks off, one of the best I've ever had, spectacular. I'm kicking myself, because I can't remember her name. I'll have to update w/ the info later. Her focus was sports, though, and she was really great. A few quibbles related to the front of the house being a little rough around the edges: you can have water before and after, but it comes in a little plastic cup (looks like a shot glass); reading material is all family circle, etc (I can't be the only guy coming here); ads on the wall instead of art. After reading several of the reviews here, I was skeptical about trying this place. We had a couples massage booked and there were several things that was great and a few minor things that I believe can be better worked out. When we first arrived, we were nicely greeted by a gentleman. He gave us our paper work to complete, asked us about our area of focus which was nice. He also asked in advance if we needed to use the restrooms before we got started which was a good idea. One of my smaller complaints about the couples massage room specifically was that the massage beds are so far apart from one another. You literally have to scream to hear the other one when having your face down (one star deduction). The room was also very cold. A chilly breeze was coming from the top which wasn't great even though the beds were warm. MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT: the one hour massage is not actually one hour but rather a 45 minute massage (for us at least). When my partner asked her MT, we were told that's 10 minutes is assigned to actually getting changed (5 min before and 5 min after), so what about the rest? This is pretty unacceptable . It will not take anyone that long to simply undress and get under a sheet. Also, our MT were a few minutes late to start and a few minutes early to end according to that tiny digital clock in the corner. (One star deduction) As for the massage it's self, (side note: I am chiropractor so I am very familiar of the anatomical land marks on the body), I have to say that my MT was on target with exactly what I needed to be done. I'm not sure, maybe because she knew that I knew every specific muscle I was asking for, it made her pay closer attention. She did an amazing job. I believe her name was (Jenay). I was more than satisfied with her work. Once we were done, we were nicely greeted again outside and given a glass of water followed by our "problems noted" or general diagnoses of what they thought was wrong. Well as a physician I am very aware of specific issues I have. After all I have been treated by my fellow colleagues. To be told the things I was told seemed more like over exaggerated to make you think you have those problems and you need to come back. At the end, we were once again greeted by the front desk and I was getting ready to battle the "NO THANK YOU I DO NOT WANT A MEMBERSHIP" but thankfully we were only given a pamphlet about membership information which I thought was so much better than all the reviews I had read about pressuring customers into signing up. I also was happy to leave a gratuity separately for both me and my partners MT without feeling pressured to do so. I would certainly be happy to come back as a regular but I would be willing to do that if my one hour massage is one hour and not 45 minutes. read more

Let me give you a breakdown of the massage I got from David. 50%: your basic run of the mill rubbing. I give myself an equally good massage when I apply sunblock. And his hands felt like sandpaper so this rubbing had the added benefit of giving me a body wide exfoliation. 25%: elbows. this is too much elbow. This category should max out at 5%. ESPECIALLY if you have a rough elbow. 10%: some halfhearted massaging going on. 5%: ended early. 3%: getting oil/tangled up in my hair 2%: getting poked by his ring? fingernails? an extra hard knuckle? not sure but I definitely noticed it. Now, having said that, 5% was incredible. It was all from the neck up. I get a ton of massages and this neck/head massage is in my top 5 - shivers down my spine good. I would hire this guy to do nothing but massage my neck and head. Too bad his title is not "Neck Up Masseuse." Also, this is the second massage in a row from Massage Envy that ended early. 3 minutes early. It's only 50 minutes, and I'm paying you a freakin' dollar a minute. I DID keep my old promise to myself and not tip 25%. From now on, if you want to gyp me, masseuses, I am taking a dollar amount equal to the lost time out of your tip. ha HA! read more

The staff were very pushy about arriving 15 minutes early to fill out forms. I arrived ten minutes early, at 8:50am, and the woman said, "we don't have a lot of time". So she gave me the medical release form to just sign the bottom. Then they sent me to wait in the waiting room for ten minutes. I wasn't given the option of having a masseur or masseuse, either. I got a masseur. He was really polite and had good communication skills, which are important, but he was kind of sweaty , possibly from biking or traveling to work. The massage was ok. It wasn't a $78 massage, but possibly more like a $50 massage. It was definitely worth the introductory rate, but I would not pay the full rates since the service, by the front desk particularly, wasn't very good. One either needs to fill out the form or have a full consultation before the massage. EDIT: Since I can't place a comment reply to the owner: 1) Contrary to policy, I was not told who my therapist would be at the time of booking. 2) I also mentioned AT THE TIME that I had ten minutes to fill out the form. The staff member stood over me while I at least tried to fill out the bottom half of the last page. So, I had ample time and was pressured to NOT fill out the form. I have a lot of experience with this form, I have been to other Massage Envy locations in Texas and other massage places. read more

This Massage Envy is much like all the other Massage Envys. It is not upscale or fancy, but it's pretty good for the price and will do for the occasional massage. I started booking appointments at the Cambridge location when I had tons of issues with the Brookline location, which I used to love. After having the Brookline location cancel my appointment on 2 different locations (without offering to help me reschedule) and were constantly changing out their therapists, I came to Cambridge and at the very least the scheduling was much easier. It is a bigger sized ME, therefore their flexibility and availability is so much better. Their therapists seem to stick around longer, which makes for better relationships and better massages. My favorite therapist ever was Julia, and even when I had her while she was VERY pregnant (which was a little freaky) she was always thorough and great. I was already a member, so I did not have the pushy sales people on me. I did, however, think their front desk girls were friendly and pretty knowledgable about their therapists' strengths, therefore pairing you with the right person. And as a side note, the parking is plentiful, and their "serenity room" AKA dark waiting room is much bigger and more comfortable than other locations. Also - the sign that gives examples of gratuity percentages provides higher tip suggestions in the Cambridge location than it does in the Brookline location. Weird, right? read more

I've always had a positiv experience at this location. I've been a member since about 2008 and have been to many locations. Here they are always prompt and have a nice quiet room. I always do a massage with Caroline or Sheryl and they are fantastic. I think Sheryl left recently, but I'm not sure. Caroline is not only an expert but also understanding and professional. I've also had the facials and she therapist was amazing, I can't remember her name but it's worth to get a facial there. Enjoy! read more

I've been a member over six years and to be honest if it wasn't for my favorite therapist I would have canceled my membership much earlier. I've tried a few other therapists when I first signed up, but I've had the best experience with Marla. I have continued my membership since I've had her. She's always on time and is very consistent throughout the session. She will always begin each session with a quick check in on what problem areas to focus on, if needed, so she can best customize the appointment. She will also check the pressure levels throughout the session and also check if additional work is needed in any particular area before she moves on. I've noticed there continues to be alot of turnover. This location has worked best for my schedule. It's been hard to find a great therapist that works for me. I hope that the owner/management will work hard to take care of their staff especially ones who have been there consistently and in turn has been providing such great service and care to recurring customers. read more

It was so relaxing, the pressure was perfect, and she really worked out some knots without making me feel like she was. The Good: I get a massage here about 3 times a month. This makes their membership worth it. 39 bucks for an hour is a very affordable price in the city. The place is very clean, ambience is great (not a 5 star spa but great), warm neck wraps, super friendly staff. Some Improvement areas: My massage sometimes ends 3 minutes early and this is on top of being 5 minutes late. This happens frequently when I book longer (1.5 hour) massages. Their deep tissue therapists are very different in terms of technique. Some are amazing but some just don't get me fully relaxed. As a workout fiend and a runner, I constantly have lower back and leg pains and I really need therapists that understands the physiology of the human body and really knows how to alleviate. Only a select few of their therapists really go the extra mile. For instance, I appreciate the ones that do the following. 1. Stretching and bending the limbs to achieve optimal stretch and to target a specific muscle better. 2. Understand the lower back anatomy - a select few of the therapists I have tried here have really hit the deep lower back muscle pain. 3. Work out every muscle group. Believe me, I can feel if you ignore my pecs or my tricep in the work out. I noticed that this place has a moderate turnover rate. Therapists that I liked usually leave thus making me try new folks again. I wish they allow 2 hour massages again. 1.5 is not enough for me :(. Preferred Therapists: Right now, my preferred therapists are Lisa and Caroline. They do an amazing job, in my humble opinion. I received a gift card for $100 at the holidays, and I live close by, so I thought this would be a good experience, and got a reflexology massage. I haven't had a massage before (I don't like people in my space), but I thought this would be an opportunity to have my legs and feet worked on, as they don't always feel 100% from prior ankle surgeries. I explained what I was looking for to the front desk attendant who assured me everything was fully customizable, and the therapist would do exactly what I asked. Once I got in with the therapist we basically had an argument in friendly tones (my spa argument voice?) about what she would and would not touch on me. She insisted she had to do my back. I insisted I just wanted my legs and feet done, and that I did not have any pain in my back, and this was my comfort level and customization. I even got a little nervous. I finally said I would just pay her for her time, and leave. When she realized I was ready to walk - she agreed to just do my legs and feet. She seemed off-put by this, but she was getting paid the same amount, plus I still tipped her. I have to admit, after the first 5 minutes interacting with her, I had a hard time relaxing. The work on my feet and legs felt fine, but it wasn't worth the hassle. Also, when leaving, her recommendation form listed a full body massage, plus legs and feet - so she clearly didn't listen when I basically told her she had a better chance of seeing Jesus, than ever getting me to have a full body massage. I didn't appreciate the hard sell on the way out the door. I still have $60 left on my giftcard, but not sure I would ever go back. read more

I've been a member of Massage Envy for two years now. Cambridge location is very convenient for me. My favorite therapist is Marla. I've had few others before but Marla is the best. She is always on time, asks what is the problematic area that she needs to spend extra time on, and if the pressure is OK during the session. My shoulder and my back is like new after the session!! There has been a lot of turnover lately, my husband has to switch his therapist several time in the past six months due to this. I hope the management can keep their staff happy! I have quite an extensive experience with massage therapy. The 'deep tissue' massage was everything but a 'deep tissue' massage. It was among the worst top two massages I've ever received. The therapist had a routine, and she was just trying to complete that. That's it! She didn't listen to what I wanted, nor did she 'feel' what the problem areas were. She kept moisturizing me. :) Not worth it! The therapist name was "Camille". On the top, they were trying to sell a membership with a 12 month commitment with a 'car salesman' pitch! please.... This is a review for massages only. I haven't tried any of the other services here. The place is nice - well decorated, clean, relaxing atmosphere. I was impressed the first time I walked in. I'd say the massages here are as good as at most other spas. I do wish that aromatherapy, or at least a scented lotion, was included in the price of the massage. I tend to book last minute so I go with whoever is available, and obviously there is some variation between the massage therapists, but they have all been pretty good. I have recommended the place to a few friends and haven't heard of any bad experiences. read more

Update - after asking Massage Envy to freeze my account for six months to use up all the sessions, and with specific instructions to cancel my account after the freeze time period was up, this Massage Envy continued to charge my account for SIX MONTHS and only contacted me once my credit card information changed. They hounded me for updates information for a week and finally I spoke to a manager and demanded my account be cancelled. I asked why my account was not cancelled per my request months prior and was informed that "they don't do that" (not what I was promised earlier). Not to mention - why wasn't I contacted to set up one of the many appointments I was accruing? When I mentioned that I hadn't been contacted to set up an appointment to a manager she told me that they had been in a "busy period" - yeah right, from February to the beginning of August? Are you kidding me?? The customer service is as bad as the massages. Stay far away from this place unless you'd like to be hurt both physically and fiscally. Advice to the management: please get your act together. Being friendly and kind will net you a lot more money overall than scamming your customers. read more

I have to add another review complaining about getting effectively scammed by their membership plan. The massages I did get were pretty good on average, and I hate to think I might affect the masseuses' incomes with this review...but since I apparently have no recourse to recover my money, I have to turn to the harsh justice of yelp... Familiar story: Got what I thought was a year-long membership...after the year passed they stopped informing me of my 'purchases' but continued charging my card (I'm embarrassed to admit for how long). I eventually realized and called them to plead for some kind of refund (of course not), and in the end let myself get talked into "freezing" my account for six months so I could use the credit, with the EXPLICIT ASSURANCE that I would not be charged for any additional membership services after the freeze ended.... ...but here we are, six months later, with this fat charge on my credit card bill, no way of getting the money back, and another annoying and probably unsuccessful call to make to escape this nonsense. I haven't even stepped foot in Cambridge or a massage Envy for months and here I am, still dealing with the fallout from taking their greasy offer at face-value. TLDR: if you need a discount massage one day, sure, maybe go to a Massage Envy. But DO NOT give these people your consent to issue a recurring charge or they will do everything they can to trap you in it. read more

I'm not entirely sure what all the bad reviews are for? Yes, they ask you to become a member. If you get a massage or two a month, it's a completely reasonable price for Cambridge. I was paying twice as much just for 1 elsewhere. I signed up and think it's a good plan if you get regular massages. It's not a scam, ME just operates through memberships...aka research a place before you go there! Gavern is great and knows what he's doing. Really helping my neck and shoulder tension.
