I really like this deli. They always have quality fresh ingredients. I like to get sandwiches from here during the week. My one criticism is I think they can have better bread, other than that this place is pretty solid and worth going to. read more

Uh-huh! They make their own deli meats and they do it to perfection. I have been going here forever (previously Gino's). Me? I'm good with one of their small roll sandwiches. All are in the 5-6$ price range and they are monstrous. Pretty sure the bread comes from Hoboken daily and it's serious. I do not like spongy rolls. Theirs are golden brown with a little crisp on the outside and then you fall in love with perfectly soft inside. They shred the lettuce but they don't ruin that crisp it's supposed to give the sandwich. They make their own mayo (wish I had it for my home) that is kind of heavenly. A family owned business and they are all just so nice there!! Now - let's talk Massimo ravioli's. If you are ever in that area stop in and get box. You won't be sorry. I can't say enough good things about this gem on the Boulevard in Kenilworth. Absolutely delicious deli! Small place backs a mighty punch. Sausage, fresh pasta, dinners, Italian bagged cookies, bread, antipasto, long hots, subs, you name it! Always older ladies shopping in there (tell tale sign the place is legit) and guys chatting in Italian...the Heroes can't be beat. Love this place. Always get my cold cuts here. The best mortadella and sopresatta in my opinion. They make their own eggplant slices I'm obsessed with them I put them always on my sandwiches. I was in the mood for some crunchy bread on a nice, big sub. So I sent the boyfriend off to Massimo Deli and had him pick up their prosciutto and mozz sandwich. I like that they don't automatically want to put onions on your sandwich (I hate onions). Just lettuce/tomato/oil/vinegar. Just how I like it. Except, their oil & vinegar tastes a little weird. My family has been going here for years. Their sausage is the best in the area, hands down. You may be wondering, then, why I rated Massimo so low. The last few times I've been in there, the men behind the counter have been extremely rude. To the point of rolling their eyes and getting exasperated with me asking them a question. It has turned into the "Soup Man" of butchers/delis. The final straw was when my husband was stuck in traffic and luckily made it there 10 minutes before closing. He walked up to the door and they saw him. Yet they proceeded to lock the door and close the lights. How rude! He was really upset and said he's never going there again. If you say your hours are until 6, then you need to be open until 6! If you aren't going to stay open until then, and you want to close up shop, then choose an earlier closing time. Sorry Massimo, you lost my business. I'll be sure to tell all of my family members about my experience, too. You are losing some loyal customers that have been going to you for years. What a shame. Might consider going back if they change their ways. I know for sure I'll miss their sausage. :( read more

This is a excellent local Italian delicatessen. They serve unique sandwiches and hot lunches. They also have amazing looking meats. I have enjoyed all the food that I've tried from here. I personally order the Umbria sandwich with an extra bit of balsamic on it. That sandwich is like my guilty pleasure in life. That being said there are many other great sandwich combos on the menu. How this place has only 25 reviews is beyond me. As someone who spent many years living in Brooklyn and Queens, Massimo has all the familiar trappings of a neighborhood Italian deli you'd find in outerboro NYC: Long deli counter with 4 or 5 Italian and Italian-American guys behind it (this place is family owned and operated), regular customers hanging around chatting up the staff and other customers, soccer on the lone TV hanging in the corner, and a ton of imported Italian treats (pasta, cookies, taralles, etc.). Sandwiches are out of this world (I recommend getting something with prosciutto or soppressata), salads are great, and while I've never tried the hot food, I've seen plenty of people order plenty of it. Then next time you have the urge to hit up a subway or Jimmy John's, I'd suggest you to stop by Massimo instead. But note the hours - the latest they stay open is 6, I believe, so if you don't work in the area, it's more for a weekend lunch than a quick weeknight dinner (sadly). read more

I got half a massimo special. The meats were SUPER salty, but otherwise the flavors were great. The bread had a good amount of chew without overpowering the meat. My only big complaint, and I should have known when the regular in front of me said like 6 times "a little little little little little little bit of vinegar." I on the other hand said "oil and vinegar" and proceed to watch my sandwich get an absolute bath of both. My office is 13 minutes away, and half the bread had gone mushy from the volume of liquid it absorbed. Inexcusable- ruined half my sandwich. read more

Formerly known as Gino's, the name changed when it passed to the next family member. There is a good selection of imported meats and cheese as well as dry goods. Where Massimo's really shines is in the food they produce themselves. The sausage is good especially the kind coiled into a spiral. I don't know the name, but it is a real treat cooked on a grill. They make mozzarella and ricotta -- both delicious. My favorite is their sauce. I don't bother to make my own any more, it's not as good as I can get here. BEST Italian deli around! Their homemade mozzarella is the creamiest and melts in your mouth. The dried sauage (hot or sweet) is delicious and they slice it for you at no charge. They make all their sausage and have different flavors-try the basil-cheese. Massimos is the best in the area and I don't think it's that close. I tend to rotate between the Massimo Special Sub (which is like an old Italian style sub) and a roast pork/broccoli rabe/sharp provolone but I'm sure anything on the menu is going to be delicious. read more

I read the other posts before visiting, and I was very disappointed after eating the chicken cutlet roll I ordered. I gave 3 stars because the roasted peppers and mozzerella were very fresh, and the chicken was not overcooked. That being said, the bread was tough inside and out, the breading on the chicken was soggy and cold, and the peppers obviously hadn't had the "italian treatment" (i.e. a good soak in garlic for a couple of days). They were also out of the roasted pork that is shown on the menu board - apparently they only have what you see in front of you that day. Portion sizes are enormous, but honestly, if it doesn't taste that great, why do you want a big portion of it? read more

As authentic as it gets! The guys in Massimo are friendly, funny, and very accommodating. The sandwiches are OUTSTANDING. A favorite of mine is chicken cutlet, fresh mutz, prosciutto, and roasted peppers with balsamic. Their cold bar has an awesome selection of tasty sides. We have also picked up many of their frozen prepared meals which are great! really doesnt get much better than this place. we order from here at least once a week at work, and on fridays i usually stop by and pick up some pasta and sauce for the weekend. Everything is delicious and you can tell that they put alot of love into what they make. The vodka sauce is unbelievable but the broccoli rabe has almost become an addiction. Ive always loved it, but I cant find anywhere that makes it this perfect. When you walk in its usally packed, so if you know what you want call ahead. Been a customer for a number of years but was very disappointed with 1 of their staple items "Italian Sausage" recently. It seems they changed how the sausage meat is prepared. Previously the sausage meat was prepared using a fine meat grind. Apparently they switched to a very coarse meat grind with the sausage now containing large chunks of white fat some up to a 1/2" in diameter. Very disappointed with the new sausage recipe. read more

Based on the reviews I would have to say that they are mostly from family members, (not cool). The deli is pretty good. I lived in Italy for most of my life and can tell you that without a doubt, the mozzarella is the best you can get here. The fresh pastas are typical, nothing to be writing home about but still worth it. The arancini are a bit tasteless, the bread is good, the home made sausage is good, and the imported prosciutto is excellent. The prices are outrageous so be prepared to spend approx. $10 for a sandwich with mozzarella and prosciutto. I am not sure what one of the reviewers was talking about in re. to the roasted peppers which should be soaked in garlic for days (?????). Each deli will reflect the region of origin. I believe these gentlemen in the deli, are all from Puglia. Not everyone prepares roasted peppers in the same manner. I, for example, do not put any garlic. The store was renovated a couple of years ago, after being owned by the same man (GIno) for decades. read more
