I loved this store until I developed a medical problem. Shoes became difficult to buy and often within a few hours I was in significant pain. This was a new problem and a learning curve was involved. Unfortunately, within the first year, I ended up returning five or six pairs of shoes, worn only for a few hours and only around the house because they causing pain. I did not take this lightly as I know they do not sell for full price once returned. On about the fourth pair I had to return, the manager waited until I was looking at him, looked me straight in the face, closed his eyes, and shook his head "no" from side to side several times. No other way to take it than as a condemnation for returning yet another pair of shoes. After that I initially would only shop there when he was not working. Ultimately I started shopping elsewhere. I am typically very loyal and will pay more for good and helpful service and patience. I bought MANY pairs of shoes that did work - repeatedly. But he embarrassed and shamed me as I was dealing with a frightening and painful medical situation. I do not have money to waste on shoes I only wear for two hours. Ultimately, no way I could continue shopping there and maintain my self respect. read more

My husband went in there to get shoes. Several sales people chatting amongst themselves and ignoring him. The only person he could catch the attention of was the person who said he only worked in Women's shoes. We left after being ignored for over 15 minutes. Wouldn't recommend. read more

These people are experts and professionals. There is a great selection of shoes and those wonderful wool socks (WoolSmart-?). The prices are up there, but the quality and service justify it. I took my 80 year old mother there because she has rheumatoid arthritis and her feet are distorted and it is hard to find comfortable, supportive shoes. They were very professional, they treated her with respect and worked patiently with her to find comfortable shoes for her orthotics. They measured each foot and were able to assess her needs make her comfortable with the process. read more

I have been to Mast twice now, and it's a totally different shoe buying experience than any i have ever had. The first time, i walked in and started browsing. I got the "what can i help you find" question, but it was ... more. The salesman listened to what i was looking for, found the shoes and used a shoe horn to put BOTH shoes on my feet and do up the straps. Amazing! I felt like a millionaire! They work with you to find the right shoe(s) for your feet, and make sure they fit appropriately. No guessing about "will this break in" or "is it supposed to fit like this?" They tell you! Great experiences, very helpful and knowledgeable staff, though you do pay full price - unless you find something on the clearance rack. In my opinion (and i'm usually a cheapskate!) it's totally worth it! read more

The selection is OK. My reason for this review is my dissatisfaction with the salesman. I came in looking to buy a $60 to $70 pair of shoes to counter blisters and sore heels. I soon found myself trying to escape a relentless, sometimes inconspicuously rude salesman trying to throw in deals and persuade me to purchase an expensive pair of shoes. Overall, the fact that I came in with little to no knowledge on how to combat my feet soreness, and came out with a handful of useful information was great. The "salesy" feel and uncomfortable tactics thrown ruthlessly at me overshadowed any positive aspects of this place. read more

Traveled 2,300 miles to find a few pairs of shoes! REALLY I live in San Diego and have narrow feet, looking for narrow shoes is next to impossible. I was visiting my relatives in MI. and I "Yelped" independent shoe stores, which are few and far between. I called and shared my frustration. They were very kind to me on the phone and mentioned they did carry shoes that fit narrow feet! We drove 2 hours and I felt like I hit the lottery, shoes from Germany, water proof for walking in the rain when we travel to New Zealand (certainly not for San Diego) and an Italian shoe for pants, unique and classy. I took my mother shopping here and had a very good experience. Good selection of comfortable shoes, they are also relatively stylish looking. They have many quality brands such as Dansko. A lot of sales too. What particularly endeared the store to me though is that my mother is suffering from dementia. The personnel were extremely kind and compassionate and assisted us in every way with finding the perfect pair of shoes for her, which is difficult because her feet are quite wide and her behavior is unusual. Would definitely return here with mom next time she needs shoes. read more

This was my second visit today. I like to bring my sister to shop here because it's difficult to find her shoes. She has special needs so her feet and her gait can make it difficult to find a pair that she can wear. The sales women that we have encountered at the store have gone above and beyond to help us find a comfortable pair for my sister. The shoes we bought have been both fashionable and comfortable. This store is great for those people who need a specialized shoe. I buy my work shoes from here, and I've brought my parents in for fittings and shoes. Prices are a bit high, but I'm willing to pay for the proper fit. I've always had a great experience with the sales people. However, I wouldn't shop here for fun or cute "young" people shoes, as the prices are a bit too high and the selection not that great - go to Kohl's or DSW for that. But if you need a good pair of work shoes or if your parents need a proper fitting pair, go to Mast! read more

My only problem with Mast is - I'm the type of customer who needs a lot of looking around time. I feel somewhat accosted by the sales people every time I go in. i think it must be in their training to speak to customers the moment they walk in, before they've had a chance to look. A couple times they followed me around as I perused. I almost never shop at Mast anymore. read more
