I had my first experience with the running lab yesterday. Had an awesome experience in store, knowledge staff member who helped me (thanks Keith), cool tech to help with the fitting process, and a thorough process to make sure I found the right shoe. On top of this, Keith was able to provide a couple pointers on my stride that could be tuned up a bit. Today I took the new shoes and fresh tips on my stride out for my first run. I needed new walking shoes and have a hard time with fit due to my orthotics. The fitting process was thorough and Toni made sure the option we tried were a good fit. I had purchased lock laces to go with the shoes. I ended up pulling one end out and couldn't fix. When I brought them in, they were fixed on the spot. Due to the service, I brought my daughter in from out of town for running shoes. Keith provided the same thorough service and my daughter was pleased with the evaluation with stride, pronation and running tips. I recently visited a podiatrist, based on my foot problems, he recommended getting Hoka athletic shoes. In turn, I visited Running Lab in Brighton, MI. Toni helped me, she was wonderful. She knows her stuff. She knew what shoe would best help me with my foot problems. I work in a warehouse environment and walk over 14,000 steps a day. At the end of the day, I could barely walk to my car. My feet would be screaming pain. After visiting Running Lab and speaking to Toni, I'm excited to wear my new Hoka shoes at work. First time going into Running Lab. I had been a customer of Running Fit prior. I walked in, not appearing to belong in a running store, as I was wearing clothes that I had been wearing while working in a barn. I did not want to chance not getting there before they closed on Sunday, so went as I was, knowing I would be taking a chance of not being taken as a serious customer. Paul had an armful of boxes and set them down as soon as I entered and asked if I knew what I was looking for. I gave told him what my running consisted of and what type of support was needed. He immediately made a recommendation and sized my foot. When he evaluated my gait he asked for someone else to give a second opinion, to make sure of what he was seeing. The other person without knowing our conversation said the same thing which resulted in me finding out I have been in the wrong type of shoe. WOW! Well worth the 45 min drive. I had heard wonderful things about the store and the attention they give to every customer. I have been wanting to make the trip out and have been putting it off for months. I have had this it band injury for months and had a gut feeling my form, gait and shoes were contributing to this. My husband gifted me a pretty substantial gift card to a well known running store in Birmingham and couldn't bring myself to purchase anything because of the way I was treated in the store. Today I had an appt with Keith and he was unbelievable (and the sweet young lady shadowing him). I wish this was every running store. The people there love running and it shows. Decided to come here after my last experience with a different local store, which left me with shoes that gave me huge blisters. Not good. I'm currently training for the NYC marathon, and just getting into more minimal drop shoes. That's where my technical expertise ends. Having a store like this around is immensely helpful. Their whole goal is to get you into the right pair of shoes for you and they don't cut corners. Mike, who was awesome, listened to all my needs and concerns, looked at my old shoes, watched me walk barefoot, looked at my arch, measured my feet and brought out several pairs to try on. We slowly whittled that group for 6 down to 2 and then he had me hop up on the treadmill. After I was satisfied, we watched the video analysis to see how my foot was landing and the responsiveness of the shoe. He also gave me a few pointers on my form and suggestions for gels, socks, and blister prevention. The entire time there was no pressure, and he was really patient with my indecisiveness. Selection was great and offered a wide variety of brands and styles. Personal attention was fantastic and it seems like they foster a lot of regular customers, as Mike knew a couple by name. Return policy is out of this world. Returns within 30 days even if worn! I have actually never had a better experience at a running store. I heard about the Running Lab from a friend at the pool who had also suffered from plantar fasciitis. I was having too much pain to walk. I went to the Running Lab that very day. So glad I did! This place is amazing. Regardless if you are a new or experienced runner, the staff here knows what they are talking about. I love the simplicity of the store and how they get straight to the point. They ask you about past running shoes, if you've ran before, etc. They then watch you walk to see how your feet react normally and bring out a lot of shoes that they think would be great for you. Once you narrow it down to ones you like, you can run on the treadmill to try them out but they will also evaluate and videotape your run. This is where they will help you figure out areas that you need to work on to improve your run. Additionally, you have 30 days to return/exchange the shoes if they don't work out. And you can actually wear them outside and still return/exchange - pretty sweet. I definitely recommend going here! Oh, and they don't have just shoes - they have socks and accessories as well! The bar for me had been set high with Playmakers in East Lansing. the Running Lab watched me walk, talked about my running and gave me some interesting options with shoes that I hadn't seen before. The guy I worked with there was sharp, a collegiate runner. He put me on the treadmill, filmed me and analyzed my moments. He had some great tweaks to my foot strike that made a big difference. Similar to playmakers, they also promote the Good Form Running technique, so the feedback was very familiar for me. read more

I was so happy to drive a little longer than normal to check out Running Lab in Brighton. My friend and I went on a Wednesday morning to get fitted for new running shoes. I purchased a pair of Brooks running shoes (Dyad) on the advice of my doctor because I'd been suffering with planters fasciitis for al most three years. After having my first surgery I was told to buy a better shoe. Thinking my foot issues were behind me I bought these Dyad shoes, sadly my feet issues never healed so all I used these shoes for was walking around and after 4 months I developed a small hole on the side.
