I heard about this fish store online and on Yelp, so I paid them a visit. At first, finding this store was quite an adventure. Surrounded by mechanic shops made it a bit of a hunt to find. The doors are unassuming and there are no windows, so at first I wasn't sure if they were even open. Once I got in, you'll be surprised by the size of the place! Quite spacious than some of the LFS i've been to. They have a plethora of different types of Bettas. Beautiful, healthy-looking. Even the size of the containers that house them are decent compared to the typical plastic cups you would normally see them in other stores. They even have king Bettas which were pretty cool to see! Such a nice variety of colors and types. I would definitely purchase one if only I didn't already have a Betta in one of my nano tanks. Not to sneeze at are the variety of different community fish they have as well. They have quite a selection of fish that are hard to find elsewhere. All kinds of corydoras, dwarf cichlids, killifish and even some monster fish are available for purchase. Had to get me a group of gertrudae rainbows for the nano. This charming place is well hidden and located across Honolulu Community College. The store is pretty clean and simple. There are a lot of fish that you can't find anywhere else and staff are helpful and friendly, there is a large variety of fish they offer but not a lot aquarium decor. They have the largest selection of beta fish I've seen so far, hence the name of the store implying they are beta masters There is very limited parking so prepare, it's a one way street to get to the entrance with most of the surrounding businesses being motor vehicle repair shops which takes most of the parking spots. If you can't find certain fish, come give this place a try. read more

5/5, best fish shop on the island. The workers and owner knows what they're doing and will give you amazing advice on fish care. The owner goes above and beyond for his customers. Whenever I have issues or questions about my fish and text him, he would get back to me even after hours which I really appreciate. Fish and other products are good quality and is very affordable. They make sure their fish is good and eating before selling them to you. I wanted a puffer fish once, but it ended up getting ich. So they told me they would quarantine it for a few days so the ich would go away and I can come back for it then. Really appreciate the care they put in. Highly recommend for anyone. read more

Super Friendly Staff, the BEST selection of bettas and other hard to find fishes and plants. Parking situation is a little rough as it's in a industrial warehouse area but their selection, especially when a new shipment comes in is totally worth it. Always having Sales and Giveaways so if the price feels too high, just wait for a sale! (but if you DO wait you may miss out on the colors you want) Hours are sometimes inconsistent usually because they're grabbing a new shipment of fish, but their IG is always updated. read more

Don't be deceived by the name. MastahBetta is the real deal. It's serious business, fit for hard-core hobbiests, or people like me who just wanted one or two fish. I've never been to any other pet store that took such good care of their fish. All the tanks are clean, and the fish are happy. Josh is extremely knowledgeable and will provide great advice if you ask. A lot of pet stores, like Petco, only sell male fish. If you want to breed, MastahBetta sells both male and female bettas. Some fish, like the medaka Japanese rice guppies, are sold in pairs - one male & and one female. What I respect most of all is their high standards for quality. Each new shipment is quarantined and monitored closely for a few days before they're sold, and they will not sell a fish that is unhealthy. The fish are sourced from the various farms from around the world. There are very unique breeds and colors that are very hard to find elsewhere on-island. They're at a new location on dillingham blvd now. There's parking stalls available. Super spacious with a wide selection to choose from. There's bettas, cichlids, community fish, goldfish, and they even have mud skippers which I've never seen before. They also sell fish food and huge Indian almond leaves. My ohana and I recently went to Mastahbetta's grand opening. My husband loves making Aquarium. I purchased a beautiful galaxy koi betta for him as a gift for our wedding anniversary. I was pleasantly surprised when I showed stumbled upon this shop. Their fish were beautiful! Got my girlfriend a shiny blue betta for her new apartment. I didn't want to accidentally kill the fish LOL so I asked them a lot of questions.
