The work performed was neat, clean, detailed, and perfect. They also provided an estimate before services were performed onsite. Tasha is by far, one of the worst business owners / customer service people there is, if not THE worst. I hardly ever write bad reviews, or many reviews at all, for that matter. But she is so awful, that I had no choice. She is the EXACT opposite of what an exemplary, customer service professional should be, and it's sad that she goes on and on about how hers is a company of understanding customers' needs. I have experienced the worst customer service from her and it's evident to me that she's essentially just trying to float her own ego. So enough with the fluff, because I can go on and on about the negative experience. But facts are, she charges $25 just for an initial consultation, or walk-through. Then if you decide to do the service with her company, it's $500 for four hours. That comes out to $125 per hour. Otherwise if you don't hire Checklist, you've lost the $25, whereas other companies simply provide the consultation for free. For handyman services, their rate is quite expensive. If you look through Yelp a bit more in the same service area, handyman services are generally anywhere from $50 to $85 per hour. Her business is grossly marked up, and she provides one of the worst customer service experiences. I'm not sure what the mark-up is for, but the false bio that she has written here on Yelp states her "strength in operations," fine-tuning Checklist's scheduling, maintaining Checklist's "premium" service, foundation of trust and consistency, blah, blah...all of this, I could not further disagree on. She says she's the owner of the company and apparently charges a premium for a level of service that I have not seen from my initial point of contact. Worst, from the first moment, you will reach an answering service, and from which point, you will have to be left wondering if you'll ever get a call back. She can basically just choose whom she wants to return calls to, as she's already charging her premium prices! Please don't waste your time with them. There are so many great fully five-star rated handyman services out there, as I've discovered, and you'll be saving yourself a decent amount of money. With Checklist, you will basically be paying more than what you need to, so that this business owner can answer a few customers' requests and reap all of the benefits, thus providing you with her version of "great" customer service. You will very well have either a) wasted your valuable time, or b) paid a "premium," which then effectively enables her to waste others' time. Update: Now Tasha O has responded to my review. This is the fastest, most record-breaking time that this business owner has ever responded to any of my concerns or efforts to reach out to her. From my very first experience and point of contact with this company, starting with their answering service, I would leave follow-up messages day after day, and never receive one phone call from Tasha. You would think that this business owner does not exist. That is the type of first rate customer service experience that one could expect from this company. For those of you who will be using their services, this is the service for which you will be paying premium prices for. Note: She eventually highly recommended an outside flooring specialist, and never sent one of her specialists out to me from her team, even after telling me that they do have flooring experience and would send out their technician. It took me weeks to initially be able to get a reply from her. She spent majority of the time on the phone distinguishing from other handymen in how they are unique in their customer service experience. She also promised me an email outlining the time and goal of my initial consultation, since they are so highly organized, and exercise such great "attention to detail." Can you believe that I never received any email for the appointment consultation (which, by the way, was a no-show)? Isn't her follow-through and being a main point of contact, offering a supposed seamless communication, what we expect when paying premium?! However, after over a month of back and forth, I can honestly say that the only thing that she did do was give me the run-around. I always know I can get excellent work at competitive prices, and I don't have to worry about no-shows, sketchy people, or lazy estimates. I contacted these people thinking they were different from other non-responsive handyman. It took them 3 days to respond to my online request. Their only response was to ask for my phone number and address which I had already provided. After that they waited 1 day to call and schedule a handyman to come and look at my list of things (which was pretty basic) and give me a quote. Finally 5 days after submitting a request I got a quote that was 3 times the amount of another handyman. As a fairly handy and self-sufficient business owner, hiring anyone to take care of the several not-so-minor things left on my check list was a slightly frightening concept because I also happen to be somewhat of a control freak. But my list of things left to do has only grown over the last couple of years, while my available time has not. After doing some research. It was important to me to have a local business with a stake in doing a good job. Sure, I could have hired a day laborer through Craigslist, but I'd have to watch them like a hawk, thereby nullifying any potential time or work savings. No, I needed someone local, reliable, trustworthy, and with a record. Checklist met all these criteria easily. Their website made it super easy to request a bid based on the specific projects I had. Project #1 was to install a backsplash, Project #2 was to re-grout the shower walls and Project #3 was to remove an exhaust fan that was no longer necessary. All three were done inside the timeframe described, and the workers were not only efficient and pleasant, they even cleaned up after themselves, which was a pleasant touch I truly wasn't expecting. As far as cost is concerned, they are admittedly more to hire than the day laborer off Craigslist, but you have to know what you are getting, and in this case it's a fully-licensed business that has a great team of people who won't take all your money and then leave the job half-finished. Read around, there are plenty of nightmare scenarios, and as someone who is frugal enough to do most of my work myself, when I am going to hire someone else to take care of stuff for me, they must not become a whole new project; I need my checklist taken care of! All three jobs were completed inside the time window proposed and professionally handled all the way. I find myself becoming more and more dependent on Yelp for guiding all aspects of my life. Should I be concerned? Nope, just one of the massively happy conveniences of the 21st century. But I resisted using yelp for construction jobs. And so...It's always kind of nerve racking when you are trying to find someone to fix small (or large) projects in your home. Yelp scores again, with Checklist Home services. Great company. I had two guys come by today for half a day, and I actually got everything I wanted done and done very very well. Everything about Checklist is professional. From setting up appointments, to receiving estimates, to communicating with folks in the office about getting the work done, to the actual work itself. Just class acts. We originally contacted them back in August to do some work in an apartment we had just moved into. We waited until the last minute and basically needed the work done in a jiffy. They were flexible in accommodating us. 1,003 crazy e-mails from me later, we basically had to tell Liz that we had to hold off on the work for now. I would have been *annoyed* if I were her, but she was totally cool and said she understood. She told me they'd be there if/when we decided to do the work. This is what made me remember them when we decided we ready to have the work done last week. Guillermo is basically like having a really chill, competent, soft-spoken, generous, punctual, tidy, and thoughtful husband (not to invoke gender stereotypes, but I feel like this is the shortcoming of my lesbian marriage). He did every single thing on our list, plus things we didn't ask him to do; for example, he noticed our toilet was running, said we had a bad flapper (maybe? yeah? is that a thing?). He went to the hardware store, got a part to fix it, and fixed it. Since we had him for the whole day (at a super reasonable rate), we just kept cooking up more stuff for him to do. He was so proficient and knowledgable and finished the work early. He hung things, unclogged the bathtub, cleaned the airvents, etc. We received other estimates for the same work. One from a really gruff and sort of cranky guy, who, while probably talented, I couldn't imagine having in my home for 8 hours. His estimate was also really high. Another estimate from a guy who came 4 hours late, and then tried to undercut his boss's company and do the work himself under the table. Shady. It's scary when you don't have the know how or the experience to be able to evaluate contractors yourself. It was reassuring to know that we had Guillermo and Checklist doing the work. They're very "What you get is what you see." The costs were transparent, Guillermo worked hard and fast, and our work was done to our satisfaction. We have them coming back in a few weeks to put in a tile backsplash and will remember them in the future for any repairs we need our "husband" to do. read more

When my son turned 7 months old and nothing on the list had been completed, I realized it was time to call the professionals. The Checklist team was amazing. They reviewed my list, provided an estimate, and scheduled an appointment in a timely manner. So what did they do? -fixed a leaky sink and wobbly faucet -hung two flat screen TVs -painted my bathroom -hung towel racks -hung 3 light fixtures -cleaned my dryer vent ...and basically saved my marriage by completing all of this in one day. We scheduled 8 hours of handyman time, and Brian arrived promptly at 9 am. I bought a building and had a number of renovations I needed to do on it - not a gut rehab, but the walls needed to be replastered and repainted, the carpet needed to be ripped up, the wood floor needed sanding and refinishing, and there were a bunch of other little things that needed to be done to make the place rentable. I got three bids. Checklist Home Services was competitive, and I felt very comfortable with Liz Picarazzi, the owner. They were far and away the most professional and detail oriented of the bids that I got, and for that matter of any contractor or handyman I've ever worked with. The work they did met the high expectations that I had. Liz was great - she sent photos of the work as it was progressing, gave regular updates, and bent over backwards to make sure that we got the main work finished on schedule and that everything was done to a high standard. She also didn't nickel and dime us on change orders - lots of small things that came up they just did without charging us, and even a few larger things as well. The doors they got were three inches shorter than the frame, and they said it was their bad they didn't catch it, and ate the cost for fixing it by lowering the door frame, which was an extensive chunk of work and which came out looking great. Ultimately, there was a change order we contracted with them for, but I felt very comfortable doing that considering how far above and beyond they'd gone. The before and after pictures for our place are dramatic. They did a great job making a mess into a home. I think our project was a little larger than what Checklist normally does, and I'm pleased to say they handled it seamlessly. Guillermo was also fantastic, and so were all the subcontractors they worked with. I'm looking forward to working with Checklist in the future, on projects large and small. read more

We hired Checklist in the past for some miscellaneous work, such as installing dryer ducts, and it was done well and efficiently, so we decided to have them come back to paint and do some minor repairs in our rental apartment. I was a bit tentative about having a handyman service do painting instead of hiring a company that specializes in painting, but since we needed some smaller repairs done at the same time, I decided to go with Checklist. Steve, the head handyman assigned to the job, did a beautiful job on the painting - even better than the painters I had hired in the past. It made the space look and feel so much brighter and more pleasant that we rented it within a day of the paint job being complete. I worked several times with a self-employed handyman who was inexpensive but was very unreliable so I went on the hunt for someone who could help me hang a few pictures, mirrors, install lighting, etc -- just a few small jobs. I was initially turned off by the 3 hour limit required by Checklist, but in the end found it to be well worth it. Not only did Guillermo and Alvaro arrive early and ready to work, they finished so quickly that we were able to use the extra time to install a dimmer switch. They went to the hardware store and returned with receipts. Overall, they did a great job! The pictures look great and the lighting even better! I would definitely recommend them. I was disappointed with their quality of service and level of professionalism. Relying on the glowing and positive reviews, I turned to them to do some minor repairs around my home. From the beginning, beginning with the in-home estimate and consultation, the service was quite disappointing. Guillermo showed up over an hour late to the appointment. No phone call or message saying he was running late. I didn't think he was even going to show. But I wasn't going to write them off just yet. He was apologetic, but didn't start off with a positive impression. After walking him through our checklist needs, we booked their services. Checklist ended up sending Moses, an inexperienced handyman. He wasn't the most thorough or confidence-instilling person. He didn't strike us as someone with good attention to detail, precision or professionalism. They were flexible with scheduling and reasonable with price, which is why I'm willing to give them two stars instead of one. However, I would not recommend them, and doubt we would go with them again. read more

Checklist Home Services completed a number of small jobs for me in my condo in Cobble Hill. I really appreciated that they took all the guess-work out of the pricing. The quote was fairly close to the final price and the only variation was because of some additional (but not entirely unexpected) repairs that needed to be done behind some loose tiles. The largest and most complicated project was dealing with loose tiles in a shower stall. They determined that the sheetrock behind the tile had gotten wet and that the entire bottom two courses of tiles needed to be removed, new waterproof board installed and tile re-installed. Since it was unlikely that we were ever going to find exact matching tile, we decided that they should try to find a contrasting color. They took the time to find a complimentary tile and installed it. They also grouted the shower stall and caulked around the seams where the stall met the walls and floor. Additionally, they fixed a slow but persistent leak from the toilet tank and installed a new electrical outlet in the kitchen and a ceiling fan in the bedroom. I was grateful that one call was able to get this wide variety of projects done. I was impressed that they showed up exactly on schedule and worked with a bear minimum of questions or needs for supervision. I would use them again in an instant. read more

Reasonable, great quality work with friendly and responsive customer service. We needed some grouting and caulking work done in our bathroom. I sent a request for a quote via email and received a response the next day from Tasha telling me to send photos for a quote. I sent in photos a few days later and got a quote back toward the end of the day from Tasha. The quote was very reasonable compared to some of the other places I called. Our job was estimated at 3-4 hours and there is a 4 hour minimum. The price for the 4 hour minimum was $395 in Brooklyn but we are in Manhattan so it was $500. I had a few other questions and Tasha answered them promptly via email. It took a while for us to be ready to schedule the work but when we reached out to Checklist they were able to schedule us the very next week on the exact day we requested even though it was close to Christmas. We are in a co-op so we needed a certificate of insurance. At that point I started communicating with Christina. She was amazing and went out of her way to make sure everything was handled properly and quickly. The first insurance certificate was missing a piece of info and Christina got it corrected and reissued within a few hours. Leif arrived on time, was friendly, and did a great job -- we were very pleased with the quality of work and it took less time than we were quoted. The one issue I had was that I needed an invoice by the end of the year for tax purposes and a week after the job had been completed I still had not been billed. I spoke with Christina again and she made sure I got my invoice in time to pay it in the current tax year. Working with Checklist was a pleasure and super easy with great work results by Leif and stellar customer service from Christina and Tasha. I'd highly recommend using Checklist!!! read more

Professional, easy to work with, can take care of all those little tasks that are needed to decorate and maintain a home. I am an interior designer and have worked with 2 different crews to hang art, paint a small room, complete a cabinetry installation that had been abandoned by an earlier bad contractor, fix old cabinets that had come apart or weren't functioning smoothly, and attach a new piece of furniture onto a wall. The crews are courteous and committed to completing their tasks. The back office is really on top of things and turn around COIs very fast. You can pay them online with a credit card. They show up when and where they say they will. Pricing is fair. Just the fact that you can always reach them and they show up, puts them ahead of a lot of their competitors, sad as that may be. Hard to know where to rate this. On the one hand, the work the handymen actually did was great. Very satisfied with that. On the other hand, my experience with the company wasn't so hot. The workers were almost 50 minutes late to our appointment - apparently they'd been given a different time than I had. I tried calling and emailing the company, and even five days later, not a single person has responded to me. This is typical - they take at least two days to respond to anything (yet interestingly, when I once took too long to write back, I got a lecturing email back about needing to be fair with promptness of reply). Additionally, when I sent them my initial request, I felt they indicated to me that "the handyman" said the ceiling fan installation would take two hours. Based on that info, I decided to take the ceiling fan installation off the list so that we could get the rest done in four hours. As it turns out, two guys showed up, and they were done with the rest of the list in 2.5 hours. I had nothing else for them to do based on my emails, and so I essentially paid $544 for 2.5 hours of work. All in all, maybe it's just a lesson learned, but I can't help but feel negatively. read more

At first, I was really impressed with the prompt speed at which Checklist set up and completed the estimate, which happened on a Friday. I was trying to get quotes from a few other companies who also came out on Friday and had numbers to me by Monday. I hadn't heard from Checklist the following week, so I called them on Wednesday. They told me that they'd be finalizing the estimate by EOD. On Thursday, I stil hadn't heard from them and left two messages. Same on Friday -- left a message asking for the estimate. The finally called back the following Tuesday as if nothing had happened. "How's it going, have you made a decision?" When I told them I hadn't even received the estimate yet, they were surprised and told me they emailed it on Wednesday, blaming it on my spam folder. I don't think it's the very good business practice to not call someone back after leaving 4 messages saying "I've not received my estimate" and not know anything about it when I finally do talk to someone. I can't speak to the quality of their work. They might be great. I just had a bad experience. read more

I am happy to update my Checklist review from 5 years ago and still give this business five stars! In the past year I have called Checklist for the routine stuff - air conditioners put in the windows, air conditioners taken out of the windows - but also for the less routine: the shelving holding all my dishes collapsed and needed to be re-anchored more securely; we wanted an exhaust fan installed in a bathroom where it needed to be snaked through the ceiling and out an old inaccessible window; we decided to re-do the wallpaper in one of our rooms. In each case, Steven (my new favorite handyman) went above and beyond to make sure each of those projects was completed to our satisfaction. He even managed to fix an antique faucet that others were afraid to touch. Checklist makes communication easy and their pricing is fair. I highly recommend them. read more

I took advantage of the handyman-for-a-day special rate and was very happy with the service and the reasonable price. Luis Miguel worked hard for 8 straight hours, doing a variety of electrical and handyman tasks that had been on my list for a year! Whew. He was professional, reliable, and a good communicator. In brief, from the first time I contacted Checklist to the completion of the job, I was floored by how seamless the process and correspondence was among Liz, Guillermo, and me. Guillermo is taciturn but I think its just a part of who he is and makes his work even more impressive, since he doesnt feel the need to chit chat or bull shit. He guided my ideas to make them more structurally reasonable and I now have a beautiful closet with exposed brick, two shelves, and two hanging rods (that is also a walk-in)! Love Brooklyn over Manhattan for the space and character of the buildings. I've always lived in apartments that were more or less closets in their own right and every one of my belongings would join a heap, lost or ruined for months. Now I feel like a big girl with my own space that is elegant and functional. Owe it all to Checklist. Will be using them again for blind installation and other mini projects. PSS - Guillermo also affixed my curtain rods and hung 6 coat hooks perfectly in a zig zag pattern in my entryway and removed the ugly door stoppers and leftover junk, because they weren't pleasing to his aesthetic sense (nor mine!)
