Was here recently with my girlfriend and our family for her birthday trip and came across Masterpiece Escapes after a quick search for nearby rooms in Charlotte. I am beyond glad to have come across this place as they make all their rooms from the ground up and have full original stories for each of their rooms ( which are extremely entertaining need I add! ). Joseph was one of the guys working during our visit and he delivered great energy and definitely set the tone for the upcoming challenges we had faced! A group of six went to try out the escape room called Deadwood Saloon. Passing each room they even have the outside of the rooms to match the theme inside...awesome idea! I like how they have a skit at the beginning to get you in the mind set of the room...an unexpected surprise. We entered the room and everyone was impressed by the theme with the decor in the room matching. Someone took the time to make it look good and not just thrown together cheaply. Everything in the room was specific to the puzzles and game play, except for a few distraction items...I will let you figure those out. The staff monitored our progress and would offer comments of encouragement, not hints, if you are doing something right or politely tell you to stop if doing something wrong....oops sorry. Our group of 6 came from out of town and completed all 4 of the rooms at Masterpiece. We were super impressed by the quality and great design of each and every room. Uriah and his staff were super friendly and helpful all along the way. You can tell they really have a passion for ensuring their rooms are well designed, unique, and most importantly, fun. Each room featured wonderful theming and design, creative puzzles and an immersive atmosphere, along with some really fun twists and surprises. We had a ton of fun and were able to escape every room. Me, my sister, and my 16 year old niece went and completed the "missing" room. We had SO much fun! Everything was great from the very beginning all the way to the end. This room had some great puzzles and a great story line as well. Also had a few jump scares which made it that much more fun. We revisited Uriah and did the rest of of the rooms at Masterpiece in January - every other room is just as awesome as the first and their Missing room is one of the most well-built sets we've seen. Two secret doors in the experience and we didn't spot either of them before their use! It was the final trip for a member of our team before she moved away and the staff customized one of the experiences for us so we could give her a going away present, made the entire experience even more memorable. This really is one of my favorite spots and I can't recommend it highly enough. --- Original Review --- Don't let the exterior (or even the interior!) fool you, Great things are going on at Masterpiece. Of the 20+ rooms I've done so far, Metro Mayhem is one of my favorites. The puzzles are fun and original and the experience just gets more and more gonzo as you go on. They had a few tech failures, but were quick to step in and make sure they didn't impede our experience. We stopped by Masterpiece to fill a 2 hour gap in the other 4 rooms we were doing on Saturday. So glad we did! My group is already planning to re-visit Masterpiece on our next trip to the area to hit up their other rooms. read more

I've done several escape rooms in the Pigeon Forge area, but Masterpiece Escapes was our first Charlotte area adventure. This was hands down THE BEST one that we've done so far! My husband, twenty year old son, and I decided to attempt the "Missing" room. The waiting area is sparce and might make you second guess your decision to choose this particular venue -- DON'T WORRY! The owners have poured their love and expertise into the actual rooms themselves! There are so many things that I'd love to share about "Missing", but don't want to give anything away. I can say that you start outside a cabin in the woods at night and Masterpiece Escapes has done a great job of setting that mood! Creeeeepy! I can also say that "Missing" had more rooms than we had encountered at previous escape rooms and at times had me saying, "You expect me to go where?!" This particular room made great use of sound as a tool for building suspense as well as for heightening your urgency to complete the tasks quickly -- all in all, a totally immersive experience. My son and I said later that not one time did anyone feel compelled to look at a cell phone or even think about anything other than what we were trying to accomplish. The room provided us with a fun opportunity to come together as a family to try to meet a common goal. The puzzles were tricky, but solvable with the items at hand and there were several that could be worked on simultaneously -- which would be especially nice with a larger group as there's not much fun in just watching a few people solve a puzzle. Love this place! We tried all four rooms here and enjoyed them all. We have about 40 escape rooms under our belt from fla to sc to nc , tenn... Masterpiece Escapes definitely tops my all time favorite escape rooms. My favorite rooms here are "Missing" and "Metro Mayhem" .. the decor and story of these rooms is absolutely mind blowing!!! There's a lot of thought and creativity that goes into the rooms here. The staff is very friendly and humorous and accommodating too. This was our first experience with the escape room concept. The plot was pretty cool and we enjoyed the occasional clever humor. The group is supervised and hints are offered if you get stuck on a particular puzzle. This was a nice alternative to dinner and a movie. WOW! Simply awesome. My family of five has outgrown the bouncy places, the roller skating, the laser tag. We wanted something we could all do together as well as SUPPORT a LOCAL business. Paintball is great but messy and painful. As the only female in the house that takes away video games and cell phones as punishment, I just know I would be THE MOST painted person on the paintball field. We wanted a mental challenge, something we could do together. Masterpiece Escapes in Indian Trail is in a little strip mall just to the northern right of Walmart. If you sneeze, you'll miss it. (There is a noodle Thai restaurant that is said to be really delicious.) We signed up for "Missing", a "scary" mission but hey, that's what the teenagers wanted! This place is just starting out, they have four themed rooms and are planning on building one more. "Metropolis Mayhem", "Missing", ""Deadwood Saloon", and "Art Heist". Without giving anything away I'll explain from my "Missing" experience. You are greeted by a friendly associate who welcomes you with an old legend about people missing and possible theories. You are escorted to a door that resembles a shack type entrance. Upon entering you are transferred out of daytime in Indian Trail and are now outside of a decrepit house in West Virginia at night. The setting was straight out of "Stranger Things" concurred my boys. You have no direction as where to start. You need to find clues to locate a key to open the door into the "house". There are many locks, codes, and encryptions to decipher. At first I felt a little overwhelmed but my kids and husband came alive using all their wits and communicating with each other as a team. Once we proudly got through, we were warmed up for the challenge. The next room had many more thought provoking tests of critical thinking. My kids have been conditioned to not touch anything when we go out and especially not in other people's homes. I had to tell them that those rules did not apply here. You MUST search and uncover clues from a crime scene. Leave no stone unturned, no page unread, look high and low and most importantly, think outside the box. I was so impressed with how each person in our group brought different talents and skills they nor I knew they had. For a mom, it relieved me that their thinking was not just video games, memes and sibling rivalry. So worth the money for that reassurance. It took us a little over an hour as this was our first foray into the world of escape rooms. My 17-year-old was the only one who has participated in another escape deep in Charlotte. It took 45 minutes to get there meanwhile this place is so close and just as great. The only criticism he could muster was that the place in Charlotte was more established. Again, Masterpiece Escapes is a new locally owned business. One of the owners, and I'm definitely spelling his name phonetically, O-rye-ya, is a warm welcoming man that just wants to bring some creative magic to IT. His excitement is only doused by the inability to comprehend why people think they have to waste gas and time to drive far away for what they have so close by. What a great group event to partake in an escape room at Masterpiece Escapes then walk over to Chokh Di Noodle House for delicious Thai food. Check out Google, FB, Yelp and Trip Advisor reviews on both these gems tucked away in a hole in wall strip mall on Independence Hwy right outside of Walmart. You will not be disappointed. read more

This was the first escape room experience for my family and we had a great time, escaping with thirty seconds to spare! We ranged in age from 7 to 74 and everyone helped contribute to solving the puzzles. Just when we thought we were done, another door opened to a new room with new challenges. The story line and clues were well thought out and challenging without being too frustrating. We were all impressed that a group with our age spread could do something together where everyone had a great time and where everyone's opinion was needed. The kids also really enjoyed solving some of the puzzles before the adults. We are already planning which room we want to do next. read more
