This is a well done escape room with a neat theme. Decor was very well done and clues were great. We had a great time as a family!

Ask the Community - Waxhaw Escape

How many different escape rooms do you have?

We will offer two traditional escape rooms – the first is “Alice’s Dream”, based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland stories. The other is “Train to Nowhere” (this is, after all, Waxhaw, where trains run right through the middle of downtown!)…

It was challenging but it is just the one room. You don't escape into another room like I've done in previous escape rooms. Now let's talk customer service. We came in with a 10year old soccer team for a team building event. When I booked they were very nice and knew we would be coming in. Yes they were excited and loud. However, the staff member could have been nicer about it. Especially towards the children. The staff member checking us in was condescending but pretending to be nice. I could tell they were annoyed with us. Another staff member yelled at one of the parents for taking a pic of their time before they left the room after the game was over. As I was leaving I was looking for my kid, she said I'm here mom to let me know where she was. I told her to not be so loud. Then the staff member said in a condescending way "You know you're inside right?" Other than the interaction with those two staff members the kids had fun. I doubt any of the families will return though due to customer service.

Fun escape room located in the mall. We booked the room in advance on their website. It is pricier…read morethan other escape rooms in the area and is more expensive per person if you have only 3 people. That being said, the theatrics, room size, props, and attentive staff make the price worth it. The employee running our room was incredible. They kept up with everything and provided assistance as needed. While in Charlotte, we chose to do the Wild West room. Some of the items in the room were previously broken, but at least the employee running the game was aware and warned us ahead of time. This removed some of the excitement involved with solving a clue but did not prevent us from enjoying the room. I also did not like how our group was separated in the beginning. Seemed pointless to set up the story in this way. The people separated in the beginning are at a disadvantage since they are not able to do anything for about 5-10 min and don't know all the items that were found before joining up with the group. If there was something to do in that separate area then it would make more sense. Additionally, there isn't a great place to set things. There are many props (which I like) but we didn't know where to place them when finished with them since they would block other clues. In other escape rooms, the moderator/host have informed us of a table or chair not part of the game where we can set personal items or used items. That being said, this escape room is a step up in theatrics from other rooms. The story was good and the clues were tricky without being impossible. Plus it's easy to reserve a room online, we started on time, and the mall bathrooms are close by. Overall we recommend this escape room to others!

Escapology Escape Rooms Charlotte has some strong points. The room themes are well-designed,…read moreimmersive, and visually interesting. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell short compared to many other escape rooms we have played. My group has completed every escape room in Charlotte, along with numerous rooms in other states and several overseas, so we have a broad basis for comparison. One of the biggest issues was the size of the rooms. They felt cramped and crowded, and while the advertised capacity may be higher, the rooms seem best suited for two to four players at most. The puzzles were also frustrating at times. Many of the clues felt overly convoluted, and the room lacked a clear sense of progression. Rather than flowing naturally from one puzzle to the next, the challenges often felt disconnected and lacked cohesion. The game management also impacted our experience. We were told that the game masters were monitoring multiple rooms simultaneously, which appeared to contribute to delays. At one point, we successfully completed a piano-based puzzle multiple times, but nothing happened. After repeating it several times, a game master finally noticed and advanced the puzzle. Situations like this can be particularly frustrating when time is limited. Overall, Escapology Charlotte offers attractive themes and creative room designs, but the small room sizes, inconsistent puzzle flow, and game-master oversight issues detracted from the experience. With some refinements, it could be a much stronger escape room destination.

It was very well done, and much more challenging than we were anticipating. We had a good time and thought the staff was great as well. Looking forward to coming back to try another room.

If you've ever wanted to know what it's like to float in space without the whole 'gravity doesn't…read morework here' situation, this is for you! The Infinite made me feel like a legit astronaut (without all the math). The VR spacewalk? Unreal. I got up close with ISS astronauts, saw jaw-dropping views of Earth, and may or may not have tried to reach out and touch a star. Totally worth it--if NASA isn't calling you anytime soon, just book this. BUYING TICKETS Use promo code 'ONTHECHEAP' for 25% off adult admission (available as of this writing) also be aware there is a processing fee upon checkout. YOUR STUFF There are first come first serve lockers for jackets, water bottles, purses etc. Other than money for the concession stand or gift shop, you don't need anything else. UPON ARRIVAL You'll scan tickets (or provide your confirmation number to be printed on demand), proceed with your group to a staff member for a quick tutorial. Then you'll gear up and get your VR headset complete with built in audio. They'd then scan your entire party (bar code on VR) so you can find each other during the activity designated by a golden yellow light. Other guests will be blue, staff will be green. Then you are off to space! Those who are unstable or uneasy with heights will benefit from a 'buddy' to hold their hand as they adjust to the virtual reality. They can step out of the activity easily at anytime and are surrounded with helpful staff. Just keep reminding them they are on a flat surface and what they are seeing is an illusion. You'll navigate through the space station, the ship, stunning views, and feel as though you are part of the crew. You'll then be directed a seat clearly marked just for you for a remarkable grand finale. After the VR Tour you are welcome to visit their gravity exhibit, the giant earth, multiple selfie stations, the gift shop ($8 for astronaut ice cream) and concession stand with tables to rest and enjoy. Overall our party of 6 (ages 9-72) enjoyed the experience. Definitely something different from the status quo.
