I've only recently started spending more time in the Redmond area for work, and Matador has quickly become one of my favorite spots to unwind after a long day. Most of the time I'm dining solo, and this place just has a great vibe. The music is always on point, the artwork and decor throughout the restaurant are awesome, and it's one of those places where you can relax, enjoy a good meal, and feel comfortable whether you're by yourself or with a group. Daniel (I believe that was his name) was outstanding. He made sure I was taken care of the entire time, stayed on top of drinks, and checked in just enough without ever being overbearing. Great service like that doesn't go unnoticed. As for the food, I always order the Carne Asada (steak) Burrito and have them add guacamole inside. It's become my go-to and has never disappointed. Favorite Mexican food date night place! They can be pricey but the entrees are super big and great for sharing with a few apps. Personally, I come here more for the happy hour deals. Came for a "post long-run" meal on a Sunday, must have arrived after the lunch crowd because the place was almost empty, and whenever I pass by here otherwise there's almost always folks waiting outside. ‍ Opted for bar seating, chatted with the bartender about the menu and settled for the grilled fish tacos. Didn't check the actual menu item, so I was quite surprised when they arrived with rice and beans. Ah well, I needed the calories and carbs for sure. Place was almost eerily quiet due to so few patrons, and most were either on their phones or reading a book, so not sure how the ambience is on a regular day. The Matador in Redmond is one of my favorite locations. The space is bigger than the Ballard one, so it feels a lot more comfortable when it gets busy. It's a great spot for dinner with friends, group outings, or even just sitting at the bar for drinks. The atmosphere is always fun and lively without feeling too crowded. The food here is always really good, and the portion sizes are great. I almost always end up taking leftovers home, and a lot of the dishes are perfect for sharing. Their happy hour menu is also one of my favorites. Good prices, good portions, and it's nice whether you're going with a group or just stopping in for something small. They also have a really good bar with lots of drink options, and the margaritas are always solid. Service has been consistently good every time I've gone, and everything usually comes out quickly even when it's busy. Matador pleasantly surprised me! The place has a really cool vibe with a serene, relaxed ambience, and the service was excellent. Our server Andrew was awesome and took great care of us. We decided to try this place, and it was a great choice! They have outdoor seating, but it's only available until sunset. We started with a watermelon drink , it was refreshing and really good. They also served complimentary nachos, which was a nice touch. For appetizers, we couldn't decide between the shrimp options, so we asked the staff for a recommendation. Since we wanted something spicy, they suggested the Haba Prawns, and they didn't disappoint! For the main course, we had the Enchiladas Divorciadas and the Habanero Enchiladas. A downtown Redmond classic! The interior is mood and classy, and the service is always prompt and polite. Great for a special occasion dinner, but my favorite way to go is their happy hour. If you go during happy hour, the bang for your buck is unmatched. One order of nachos (with extra chorizo, thank you very much!) is the perfect amount of food for a few girlfriends, if you add one or two other small bites. I've only ever been to Matador for their Happy Hour, and it's my go-to place if I need a big meal late at night with friends. The prices for the HH menu items are *such* good value - the quesadilla is large and definitely enough for a meal, and the nachos (also less than $10) are honestly enough for 2. I also like their brussels sprouts and tacos, though I get them less frequently. The main downside for the food I have is that it's a bit oily, so be aware of that. read more

Love this place for late night happy hour, they're open until midnight on Fridays and have a great happy hour menu that starts early with cheap eats around $6-7. Compared to RBG down the street that starts HH at 11PM. However, it is very difficult to accommodate any groups over four people. I will say seating is very limited and they often have a long waitlist so you have to go early, give them your phone number and they text you when the table is ready. We haven't been able to successfully accommodate a party larger than six people at a single table and often have to break the party into 3-4 tables or wait 30 to 40 minutes. Sometimes we have to wait 30 minutes for a table for four! They have a small parking lot right behind the restaurant that we often get parking at or could park on street or one of the other empty lots. That being said, compared to all the other late night happy hour options, matador definitely has the best bang for your buck and quality of food. We always get some variation of their $7 grande nachos with added meat on top for an additional $3.50. The portion sizes are massive and 3 to 4 people could easily share if not that hungry otherwise two people could easily just get full on sharing one plate. read more

The wagyu top sirloin was incredibly tender and cooked perfectly, honestly one of the better steaks I've had in a while. My party of 6 came at 6pm on a Friday and were quoted a 45 minute wait which we didn't mind so we gave our name and number to the hostess to get on the wait list. 45 minutes later we still hadn't gotten a text so we walked back into the restaurant to check in (there is no waiting area inside). A different host said they tried to text us twice 15 minutes earlier and gave up our table when we didn't show up. I never got the texts so I asked them to confirm the phone number and it was different from the one I provided. The host tried to gaslight me by saying he read it back to me when we put our name in. However, (1) a woman, not a man, took my name and number and (2) she did not read it back to me. After that, he proceeded to say we would be put at the bottom of the wait list again and would have to wait another 30 minutes before we could sit. As someone who used to work in multiple customer service positions including as a hostess at a popular restaurant, I was completely shocked by how rude and unaccommodating the host was. He made no attempt to provide any sort of apology or make the situation right as this was an error on their part. I had an okay meal with VERY LITTLE service (maybe understaffed?). But when I left I noticed an $85.00 parking ticket from Diamond. I received zero notice from the staff or saw signs to pay for parking! (Typically in a restaurant you don't think about paying for parking in their lot, and it was not on my radar.) The manager was extremely rude and constantly interrupted me as I was trying to suggest they do a better job letting their customers know about the paid parking/validation system. I hope this helps you from getting a ticket, I learned the hard way as this restaurant did a very poor job of letting customers be aware of the pre paid and the validation process. We came for happy hour on a Thursday and were seated immediately. Baja Fish Tacos ($7 for HH) were delicious, as were the Steak Tacos ($7 for HH). The Matador is always consistent with what you can expect with their food, and service. We came in after a long day at the office, about 30 minutes prior to close. We grabbed a few seats at a high top table by the bar and were quick to order our drinks as we were being mindful of the time. We were brought chips and salsa, and drink orders were taken promptly as well. Our server was a little cold at first but, after a bit of conversation she warmed up and was a pleasure. We stopped by for lunch after visiting the licensing office nearby because it was a beautiful day and close enough to walk. The ambiance was pleasant, seated right and the service overall was excellent. I had the lunch special which is soup (chicken tortilla), choice of salad, I had a wonderful crisp romaine salad with a delicious cilantro dressing and topped with toasted pepitas and 3 main choices that I don't remember but I chose the wet burrito very delicious.
