Met a friend for lunch. Sat on the patio, very nice. Very prompt service. Had the so and Fish Taco Special. Very good. Good came very fast. Or server was a sweetie. Good menu, lots to choose from. And not too busy or noisey.

Out and about this afternoon, looking for photo ops or at least telling myself I am. My growling stomach however told me that perhaps I should sit a spell first and have some lunch. Being that I was downtown and parked near the waterfront it seemed like checking out the new place, Match Eatery & Public House in the Playtime Casino (adjacent to the Delta Grand Hotel), would be a good choice. I sauntered in just after 12 Noon. In the Casino are a couple facilities to eat, maybe more. My choice was the new pub just off the upper gaming floor. I walked in and at first thought I missed a "Wait to be Seated" sign but a server quickly approached me and said I could sit (almost) wherever I wanted to. A buffet was being prepared so my seating choices were somewhat limited, however there were many larger (bar height) tables and a number of booths still free. I easily found a table by the roll-up doors to the outside however and sat myself. The inside of the Eatery is nicely appointed and welcoming, warm yet cool decor if that makes any sense. Lots of wood on the walls with windows and/or roll-up doors facing Prospera Place. I found later that these are for creating that 'open to outside' feel. There is lots of outside light in the pub, which I like. I ordered a Stanley Park Pale Ale to start. It appears they have 10-12 beers on tap with an extensive hard drinks list. I chose a fish/chips to eat, usually a safe choice and a dish that allows me to compare to a degree. A standard if you will. With the fish & chips came the obligatory lemon, coleslaw, which is yummy, french fries and dips of ketchup and (house?) tartar sauce. The presentation was good and the food came quickly and was very tasty. My server did a good job of tending to me and was quite gregarious. The server and everyone else were very friendly, perhaps too friendly, and it made me wonder if they know what I was up to. I know there are cameras everywhere and security is apparent. Wouldn't surprise me they were/are looking over my shoulder and checking out my actions. Numerous employees stopped or passed by with a 'hello'. I thought of taking photos of the food but for me it isn't a priority, food is often just food and most dishes look much alike. Instead I asked about taking photos inside the pub of things I saw as interesting. The hostess didn't know but went to find out. A few moments later a couple more official employees came by to ask my intentions. They stated that no photos of the gaming floor, patrons, or security cameras could be taken, but most other things in the eatery could be photographed with prior notice to the server. Interesting, and certainly their call. I was a bit surprised when the bill came. I didn't really think my beer should be $7 but I guess in some of the higher end establishments that's what it is. C'est la vie. The fish & chips was just under $16 so that's not too far off the mark. We always pay for the atmosphere! Coles Notes of my visit to the Match Eatery & Public House are: 4.0 for service, 4.0 for food (4.0 for drinks), 4 for decor, 3.5 for price. Overall a 4.0.

On April 12th, 25 we attended Boomers. It was a very nice day and as we approached the restaurant,…read morewe noticed an unoccupied table on the patio. It was the only open table, no one was sitting at it. It was two tables pushed together, it easily could have been two tables for four each, or as set up, it was a table for six. I went inside the restaurant and asked at the bar if it's ok to take an open table. There was a server and the bartender present. They both said yes. I went out and sat at the table. Another gal came and apologized that the table needed cleaning. She wiped the table and removed two empty beer bottles, two half full bottles and an empty plate. She told me my server will be right out. I thanked her. Shortly thereafter, she returned with two men. The men sat at the table and the gal told me I couldn't sit there as the table belonged to these men. One of the men was a bit rude, so, not wanting confrontation I got up and went into the restaurant. My wife arrived at this point. I told them this wasn't ok. I was offered a table inside and they apologized. The restaurant inside was very loud/noisy. I didn't want an inside table; besides, how would I know that any other table offered wouldn't end up the same way? I told the bartender that I'm not ok with how they are handling this. The excuse given is that the men went for a smoke. They abandoned the table. No coat, no food at the table, it appeared empty/abandoned by whomever had used it last. If the men had just gone for a smoke, why was I given permission to sit there, why was the table cleared for me, and why was I told a server would be with me shortly? Additionally, why weren't the two tables separated to accommodate everyone? We spoke to a server and the bartender and when we asked to speak to a manager, they called her, but she never did come to talk to us. She was busy with another table. I speculate something was wrong there too. It seems they were too busy to provide appropriate service. Beware, if you go to dine there, you may be asked to vacate your table? We chose to leave because of how this was handled. It seems there are challenges with staff/service here. (None of the staff identified themselves and there were no name tags)

Anyways, we came here for some wings and the wings were not great. The flavor was ok but the ways the wings were prepared was a bit off. The outside layer had a slight crunch to it but however after eating the third one, you would notice it to start tasting gross. The wings tasted funny. You can taste the thick fat in between the skin and the meat. The wings tasted like frozen wings that were baked in the oven. I am really big on wings but the correct way to do it is to either fry or bake the wings till the middle fat is gone and what you would be left with is nice crispy skin before tossing it in the sauce. After the second wing, all I can taste is the fatty or slimy skin with a slight crunch on the outside. This was not tasty at all. I don't think I will be back.

The bar is really nice and it was approximately 3/4 full at Happy Hour. There are TVs everywhere with various sports on, a pool table, and the atmosphere was buzzing but not too loud. I ordered the local draft lager (pint $6) really nice and perfect for cool for a hot day like today, and the happy hour chicken taco ($7). I overheard a local asking about the dinner special which changes daily based on what is available ($25). Chicken taco came out hot and fresh. It was a deep fried crispy chicken breast with a cold slaw mix and a mildly spice sauce. Very tasty. The pub is very clean and open. I felt immediately relaxed and could see myself as a local coming here often. I will definitely be back.
