I wish I can give it a higher rating! In fact I did hear that they are pretty ok... Checked into Match for a quick lunch, the place was empty on a Thursday afternoon around 12ish. We were greeted by a very sleepy hostess and soon after we sat down our server came and delivered our menus. Picked the following items: Tropical Pizza; we specifically asked for the pizza to be "well done" meaning to have the Chef to bake the crust a bit crispy. It came out soggy!! The toppings are your usual pineapple & pepperoni type, nothing really worth CDN$17.00. Blackened Halibut Burger; when the burger arrived, the bun looked like it had seen its days, and was all wrinkled up, with closer inspection, I found that my blackened halibut had turned into a grilled chicken breast!? After waiting for a while our server finally came by and upon telling her that my fish had turned into chicken, she was totally in disbelieve and took the burger back to the kitchen, after another 10mins, the burger came back out, this time it is Halibut, but the fish was sliced so thin that you cannot even qualify it to be sushi thick!! Anyways, at least they put tonnes of coleslaw, lettuce, and fried onion that you at least have some texture. Also, totally not worth the CDN$19.00!! Oh, and the accompanying "Caesar Salad" is over "vinegared"! I hardly consumed any. It is always too bad to have a decent venue but the food really does not "MATCH" the decor!! I hope they will work on the food quality and the menu to make this place worth the location it is situated in!!

It was Tuesday night and we came here before the casino. It was trivia night, so we decided to play. I ordered a frozen spiked frapp, but the server didn't know what it was. I offered to look it up for him. I then thought I would make it easy, and told him to get me a B52 coffee, but have the bartender put it on ice, then blend it. He couldn't wrap his head around this, thinking that the coffee would melt the ice. After trying to explain what to do ( not that he had to do it as he wasn't the bartender ) I got flustered and just got the B52 coffee. I So badly wanted to tell him, to bring me a large glass of ice, pour the coffee over it, then tell him to go throw it in the blender ; ) But I refrained as I was playing trivia. Well round one and we came in second place ! We won some beer pint glasses, some sun glasses, and some food coupons for free entree and free appetizer! We had ordered the pesto and prawn pizza. It was a thin crust pizza, but when i asked for it to be a pan pizza, this time my request was granted. I was so glad as it was EXCELLENT!! The crust was perfect. Could of just eaten that alone it was so good. JC also ordered the 3 chicken street tacos $6 and a Bullfrog to drink. They were really good he said. ( side sauces On to round 2 of trivia and we came in second place again. This time we were given 4 large boxes of dish wear as our prize. It was actually the first place prize, but the person who won, had won this prize before, and gracefully offered to let us have it ! Thank you ! We also got a 10$ off coupon for more food. Besides the drink mishap, we had a great time and a great meal. We will return to use our food coupons - mabey again on trivia night ! Fun times !

Large and often overlooked sports bar next to Starlight Casino. Parking is plentiful in the attached parkade, though it would make the most sense to park on the upper level if eating here. The place is divided into several large areas, with the bar section in the middle and several lounge sections along the perimeter. Staff were friendly. I had the phatty melt. Basically 2 grilled cheese sandwiches with a burger patty and fillings in between. Sounds deadly but I was able to polish it off without much difficulty. Only real problem is trying to count the calories. To be honest it was a novel idea, but didn't taste very good. Basically it tasted like high school studnet food. Comes with fries. I also tried some of their pasta. Tasted decent. The sad truth though is that nothing stuck out here at all. Might be a good place to watch the game on the big screen, but personally I don't find any compelling reason to come back here. They have to up their game (think Cactus Club) if they want to compete.

Burned Chicken, thin slice, crappy and tiny portion fries. Poor presentation. Server was handling more tables than usual. Not even came ask how was the food. Not worth money to eat there. Boring place.

We came on a Tuesday night and the place was pretty quiet. It was a big place with many booths and tables, plus big screen tvs to catch any games. The food was pretty good. We ordered from the seasonal menu (i.e. dishes they were trying out to test the diners' response) as we wanted something different. I had the cajun radiatori which was a pasta dish. I learnt something new - radiatori pasta which looked like fusili and rotini but was shorter and fatter and more like a radiator. It was tossed with cajun cream (not too spicy) with sausages and shrimps and peppers and onions. It was yummy, not too creamy that you got tried of it halfway. My friend had the Phatty Melt which looked like a sandwich on steroids. It was huge! It was a burger patty held together with grilled cheese sandwich instead of a bun, plus bacon and more cheese and onions etc. A knife stabbed through it to hold it all together. Get it if you are famished. Tuesdays meant special price on drinks. $5 highballs with well liquor. Tequila was not included in the selection.

Fried calamari with house-made tzatziki sauce

Calamari is evenly battered and fried well. The house-made sauce is a nice touch. The calamari is slightly over seasoned making them a bit salty. Restaurant has a great ambience, and kid friendly with an entrance connected straight to the casino floor.

We always enjoy "appy hour" at this place. It's between 3-6 pm Monday through Friday. Appetizers are $5 less than the regular price. Nothing really special except you get value for your money. Instead of going to other restaurants serving the same pub food you might as well just come here to save some money. I find the place clean and the service is ok. If you like live music come on Thursdays for Dueling Pianos. It starts at 7 pm.

This place is pretty fun! I received coupons in the mail for a BOGO promotion on entrees. I noticed that on Thursday, they had duelling pianos after 7 pm. How exciting! So we decided to have a meal here before entering the casino. It was lucky I made reservations on OpenTable for a Thursday dinner, because when my friend and I showed up, the place was packed. We heard people being turned away with 1 hour wait times! Every table was full in the main area - around the bar, in the booths, and the high tables. The lounge area in front of a giant TV was also full. The atmosphere is very sports bar-like, with TVs everywhere and loud speakers. In addition to that, the piano performance in the background was awesome - live singing and piano! I could really feel the energy of the place. The menu had typical bar food at reasonable prices. With the BOGO promotion, it was really affordable. Socal Taco 9" Deep Dish Pizza ($15): this was definitely not "deep dish". They could have been a lot more generous with the toppings, but I will say that the toppings were very tasty and were well matched. The portion would be good for one person. The Manwich ($15): this is a steak sandwich. We told them we were sharing and they were super considerate and split it for us on two plates. It basically tasted like a steak I could make at home, thrown on a bun. Fries were average. We still have coupons for more BOGO entrées so I think I'll try to come back. Prices are very reasonable, it's fun, and food is decent. I probably prefer it to the other food option in the casino - buffet. Upon exploring the place, I saw that they have various rooms that you can book as a venue for events. One of them had a bar inside too! Very neat!

Went to Match tonight for a retirement party. Was impressed by the service and the food. I had the beet and cheese salad with prawns. Delicious. Husband enjoyed the beef dip and fries. Sports playing on the TV. Pool tables. Nice outdoor patio area.

    Interior

Match Eatery & Publish House is a modern gastropub located outside of Starlight Casino in New Westminster. The interior is fairly dark and industrial-looking but they do have some skylights which lets in some natural light. I was actually surprised at how large this place is and it's filled with large, flat screen tvs. I'm sure that it must get busy here during weekends or sporting events but it was fairly quite when I came here for lunch during the weekday. When I came by on a Tuesday, they were running a special on their tacos ($6 instead of the usual $10) so I couldn't pass that up. The Crispy Fish Tacos were pretty good. Although the wrapper was a bit dry, the battered fish was crispy and topped with a mango salsa, crunchy slaw, and a slightly spicy chili cream sauce. I came back for a revisit to try their Pulled Bacon Mac and Cheese ($14.75). Given how dim it is in some parts of the establishment, I decided to sit at the bar so I could get some sunlight coming in from the skylight. This dish is pretty much as it's described... which is partly unfortunate. I would have preferred crispy bacon to go along with the cheesy macaroni noodles. Instead, there was a fairly generous amount of pulled pork which is chewier and leaner (and somewhat dry). The macaroni was okay and had a bit of bread crumb topping to it. But although it was cheesy, it lacked any significant cheese pull. Overall, fairly average eats but not bad considering the lack of dining establishments in the area.

Chicken waffle sandwich & yam fries... hold the syrup

A much better version of Shanks... I hated the previous get-up at this location, so with the makeover and a new 'modern/hipster' menu, it's definitely in the rotation for spots to catch a game. Interior is a lot nicer with booths, communal tables, bar seating & plenty of tv screens. Food is a definite upgrade based the items I tried & what my friends had. Chicken waffle sandwich was what I saw on their flyer, so I gave that a go... satisfying, but I'd probably never order again. Sandwiches & pizzas are around the $12-15 range. Beer is ice cold & service is friendly... the place is new so it can only get better.

First week the place is open. Two bars so i tried both. Bartenders are awesome. Attentive, informative and friendly. Exactly what you want. Happy hour is perfect at 4-7 but the later happy hour at 10:30-11:30 really adds to it. Expect $3 hiballs during those times and food specials throughout. Its a little confusing for food and drink but they will work that out. The real high point are the servers. Staff are trained to give you the best experience. Three days in to the opening and the bartenders are very friendly, asking names and genuinely wanting you to enjoy your experience. Bottom line is that March may be pricey at regular times but their happy hours are awesome and their bartenders definitely make you want to return. The room is huge with lots of bar seats and triple that in other tables. Food is pricey but good during their happy hours. Give it a try.

Overall I'd give this place 3.5 stars. First time I came here, we made a reservation and placed our order prior to arriving. This way for sure we can make it back to the office in time. We got seated right away and there was about 10-15 minute for our meal. The second time we didn't pre-order and the food took at least 30 minutes to come. We were starving and I guess that made up for the time crunch. Food: -Mini Yorkshire (2.5/5-$12): Bite size yorkshire pudding with roast beef on top and gravy dressed around the plate. Don't let the price persuade you into thinking this is equivalent to a meal. Definite an appetizer and if you wanted something more filling, it is better to add a buck or two to get a sandwich. It didn't taste that great either. -Chicken & Waffles (4/5-$14): This was delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly and absolutely love the maple bourbon aioli. The hot sauce was a bit lost. This dish came with fries and you can upgrade to yam fries or salad for an extra dollar which I did. I did not like the yam fries. One of the worst yam fries I've had! It was overly salty and not crispy. The sauce that it came with was utterly sour and watery. Totally not worth upgrading. The burgers looked good. I might come back to try that or get the chicken & waffles again. They also have an extensive list of cocktails. If it weren't for the long wait for our food, I'd say the ambience and vibe of the venue is pretty nice.

Ordered one order of Ebi Prawn platter and one order of the Southwest Salad (that includes chicken). The server took our order and asked if we wanted Chicken or Prawns. I said chicken. The food arrived a short while later but with a double order of chicken. My wife was about to comment and I told her it wasn't a big deal, so she backed off. The Ebi prawns tasted yummy but the salad was absolutely gross. We took no more than 2 bites and told the server when he came to check in how everything was, that it tasted off. He said "I'll let the kitchen know". He didn't ask if we wanted anything else and to be honest, nor did we suggest an alternate as we were completely put off. Now here's the clencher.....when we got the bill, not only did he charge us the full amount, we paid for double the chicken! Feeling uncomfortable asking for a lounge manager, we simply paid and left. In hindsight I wish I hadn't left a decent tip. The server, although pleasant needs more training on the lounge menu (I've seen him work in the adjacent Noodle Bar area) and needs help in how to handle problem situations or at the very least call the manager. Aside from drinks, that'll be the last time we ever go there!

I got my drink early and was given a food menu and I only took about 3 mins to look at it when I knew what to get. There was only one bartender and she was hustling. Not gonna lie, I was a bit concerned there was only one bartender for the entire bar on a Canada world cup game day. She was so busy she didn't have a chance to take my order. I asked another server to order but she told me the bartender will help me. It took over and hour before I got the bartenders attention and managed to order. I got the honey stinger wings. They were fresh and good, although not spicy as it says. When I wanted another drink I found it so difficult to get the bartenders attention. She was SO BUSY. She was pouring drinks for literally every single person in the restaurant. She had no help. I felt bad for her but I also wanted to be enjoying the game. I felt like some of the drinks the other servers could've probably poured themselves, like the bottled beers or pour their own tap so the bartender could manager her own customers. Regardless, we still had a good time, I had a good seat, wings were good, and the bartender worked her ASS OFF. Gaslight is a strong accusation, but fitting when the host decides to deny your reality, despite given factual proof. I originally made a reservation for 10:30 PM, then moved it to 10:45 PM so that our group could make it on time. My group arrived at 10:44 PM, but the host had to assist a group ahead of us. By the time they finished seating that group, it was 10:47 PM. At that point, the host told us that we "arrived at 10:47" and that they would no longer be able to seat us for a meal because the kitchen was closing. The host completely disregarded the fact that we had arrived before 10:45 and claimed there was nothing they could do. We then asked to speak to the manager, Seerat Dhanoa. She provided conflicting information, which made it quite obvious that they were trying to justify closing the kitchen earlier for convenience on a long weekend. She gave the following explanations: "Ever since COVID, it hasn't been that busy, so we decided to keep the kitchen closed earlier at 11:00 PM." This does not make sense. If we had been seated between 10:47 and 10:53, we would have been able to place our orders before 11:00 PM. Instead, they chose to prolong the argument until 11:00 PM, effectively wasting 15 minutes of our time. She said she tried calling to inform us and left a voicemail stating that if we were not there by 10:45 PM, they would not take our order and would close the kitchen. This allows zero leniency, even if customers are 1-2 minutes late. The call was made around 10:35-10:38 PM, when I was driving to the location and unable to answer. Nowhere on their website or reservation system does it state that a 10:45 PM reservation would result in being denied food before 11:00 PM. I showed her time-stamped messages from all group members confirming arrival at 10:44 PM. This was essentially ignored. At that point, it felt like she was just trying to cover for her team so they could close early. The only response was an apology and an offer for free drinks. In conclusion, the staff at this location deny clear facts and attempt to shift the situation onto the customer to justify poor service, showing no courtesy or accountability. I included photos that show - arrival time - reservation time - Calls made from the manager's phone "Seerat Dhanoa" even before my reservation time. (Also, expecting me to pick up a call while driving, especially when it wasn't identified under the business or company name, is quite unprofessional.) If management decided to close the kitchen early, they should have been upfront about it. Instead, the way this situation was handled is something future customers should be aware of. Side note for Vancouver residents: I typically bring my business to higher-end establishments in Vancouver known for strong service, but for my birthday I wanted something more relaxed and fun. I wasn't expecting that same level -- just basic service, which made this disappointing.
