    1pc cod + chips
    Damien M.

Went to try since previous fish'n chips place(pajos) is gone. I was never one to wholeheartedly like pajos as others have it was just a place to get fish'n chips. That being said I wanted to see if this new establishment was decent or not. I ordered the 1pc cod with chips. Waited for my order as there were 2 orders before mine and it is cooked to order. When i received it my first thoughts were that the fry on the cod looked very nice, fries portion was generous but the portion size of the cod was imo on the smaller side but still acceptable... as I have seen way smaller. To the tasting, I took my first bite without any tartar sauce, I did squeeze the lemon juice over the entire fish with the provided wedge. Boy what a crunch. Super crispy and the fish inside nice and hot. Flavor was for me spot on, nice taste of acidity from the lemon and of the cod. Paired afterwards with the tartar sauce was quite nice and added the fish'n chips flavor you crave for. The fish I don't think was overly battered and obviously cooked well with such a beautiful crunch. I usually do not like this particular style of batter but done correctly I'm absolutely fine with it. Which this was done correctly. The fries were seasoned perfectly .. not too salty and were cooked again perfect. Crispy on the outside hot and fluffy inside. I have no complaints to make about the new Garry Point Grill & Fish'n Chips. The cook obviously knows what they are doing and if you don't get full off of the fish portion the fries will definitely do it for you. That is one thing the other aforementioned establishment lacked as their fry portion was regulated to that paper cone it was served in. All in all very decent. I give the food 3.5 as this isn't fine dining... you'd have to blow my mind to go higher, service was good the girl at the ordering front was friendly and helpful as I witnessed her helping a couple of ladies in front of me. The atmosphere... hey your at Garry point park it had to be a 5 for atmosphere.

i had the Cheese burger for about $10 with tax and it was delicious. I love that the costs are lower than the overrated Pajo's that was there previously. The service was kind and with a smile. They seem to be very grateful to have that privilege to open the business in such an iconic spot. Lots of vegetarian options & they have gelato ice cream on top of all that.

What kept me as a now repeat customer is self-serve ketchup, mustard etc, and the burger comes with a very sad 1/8 slice of pickle. But it's dill pickle so a little grace. Give bigger pickles!!! For me, I abhor any "house sauce" on burgers bc it's either 1000 island or chipotle mayo. Nope! I want my burger classic w ketchup, mustard, pickle. Bonus if I get lettuce & tomato. Well, they give you baby butter lettuce & tomato as well as "Rock sauce" (nope) and raw onion (nope). The burger was really thick: I'm guessing 1/3lb. It was made to order & took a LOOOONG time bc my friend ordered bacon on her burger (bacon takes a long time to crisp up on a flattop). But kudos on making everything to order! They give you a "side of fries" which was too much for me to eat, but equivalent to a fast food small. The bonus is skin on fries!!! Plus the condiment tower has ketchup, mustard, Asian hot sauce (NOTE: we need western hot sauce: I recommend Tapatio), malt vinegar, regular vinegar, Wing's plum sauce (IYKYK), and soy sauce. I didn't snap a pic as I was starving, but know it was delicious & filling. Delicious bc I cut up my pickle & put it in the burger...I don't know why so many burger places don't understand the savoury/tangy contrast of beef & dill pickles & why it's necessary (along with mustard to give savoury & tang, but then the sweetness of ketchup. It's simple & classic!) ...but I'm SOOO happy they had mustard packets!!! I went through 7 on my burger & fries (no ketchup on fries, only mustard!). I'm giving 5/5 bc burger was made-to-order (tho they should have asked how well you liked it cooked). There are a few missteps, but I think the quality was there. Yes, I had to custom it using the condiment tower, but that does not take away from trying this place! Come for the burger, stay for the gaming! LOL

There's a full bar service with a bar tender, and a couple waitresses. We sat down with no wait time, and the server brought the menu right away. We each ordered a truffle mushroom blaze burger, with some sides of onion rings and yam fries. We also shared a crispy chicken poutine which was delicious. The crispy chicken was a little over fried, but the poutine and cheese made up for it. The truffle mushroom burger was very yummy with big portions. They are also flexible to customize the orders, with extra toppings, and switch it up for kids menu. Or perhaps better yet, should I be asking - are people today craving burgers from 74 years ago? After all Johnny Rockets, came to town for a few years then suddenly up & left. I have fallen in love with Smash Burgers over the recent few years due to the high quality offerings of some really prime burger joints throughout Metro Vancouver. See my pix & review & look for Burger Crush, Mozza Burger, Blaze Gourmet Burgers, etcetera. Upon walking into 50s Burger, I was wowed by the decor & art. However, there was no music playing from the old juke box inside the restaurant. How can you not have the 50's hits of Buddy Holly, The Drifters, The Everly Brothers, Brenda Lee, Fats Domino & even Elvis playing in the background? Service was friendly & welcoming. The burgers, fries & shakes however, need some serious attention & work! To be honest if I compare the offerings here to other burger joints, it would be a bad matchup. The burger lacked that certain umph you'd expect after each bite. The fries did not excite me. Compared against the thin cut fries at Burger Crush & there's no competition The shakes we had were just ok - nothing special. Again for comparison sakes - try the Choc Shake at Crush Burger. I hope things turn around here sooner than later. Throughout Metro Vancouver, businesses & espacially restaurants are having a hard go at it. You must bring your A+ game into this business if you are to survive. I would seriously encourage those running 50s Burgers, to check out the competition!
