I came here to freshen up my pre calculus skills before taking the calculus series at UCSD. Doug was great at making sure I got the 1:1 support I needed from his staff and flexible with the times I could come in due to my busy schedule. Carlos and Vicente primarily helped me and I am extremely grateful for the quality of instruction they both provided. Although other tutors there were not always able to help me with my specific questions, I witnessed them being attentive and helpful to every student who walked through their door. Mathnasium in Eastlake has really helped my daughter. She is in 6th grade and was very behind in learning due to the current rigorous teaching in math. Mathnasium provided a supplemental teaching in her math skills and her confidence has grown this past year. What we liked is that they go back to basics and teach it in a much simpler way to ensure they first get the concept before teaching them the common core methods. Absolutely the best decision we made for our 8th grade son! Our son sailed through school with straight A's up to the end of accelerated 7th grade Math, no problems. 8th grade accelerated math in tandem with a horrific and disengaged math teacher landed our son with failing test scores and C/D grades within the first few weeks of school. We were concerned and looked for solutions. Reviews and feedback brought us here, thank god! Doug and his team are phenomenal! Right when I walked in I knew I would be taking my son here. Doug spent plenty of time listening to my son's situation, explained his thoughts on the matter and the way forward and what happened? Yup, weeks into tutoring our son was back in the A category. Our son LOVED the tutoring, said the tutors explained math and solutions differently and clicked with him in a way he could understand. He finished the year with an A in math and we expect he will place high on the state testing. You get what you pay for. Mathnasium in Eastlake ROCKS!!! My son has been going for a few months now and has benefited from this great program. Doug quickly made an assessment on the needs of my 1st year San Diego State College student taking calculus in the summer and injected him with immediate confidence. After struggling for the first couple weeks with 2 test scores of below 60%, his staff took the next 3 test scores into the 80% and closed out his final with a 95%! I held off for years thinking my smart child doesn't need a tutor, then a friend's positive experience with this tutoring center encouraged me to give it a try. I'm sure glad I did. My daughter struggled with her Precalculus material and method of Common Core instruction. Like many, she needed someone to teach her the material. Upon her first night at Mathnasium, "It clicked" and she received 100% on her quiz the following day. This review is solely based on my emails asking for information. As my daughter attends public school she is on division this year despite never having memorized her addition and times tables. I won't go further into the absurdity, but I emailed Mathnasium general email address on their website, and within a day Doug responded back. We corresponded a few more times over email, never waited for than a day for a response, and the info was exactly what I needed to know every time. The people who said they couldn't get a hold of anyone need to try harder, I had zero problems. FYI, Also reached out to San Diego Learning Center in Chula Vista once over email, never got a response from them. read more

I've taken my nephew here before years ago because he started attending a different school system that was a lot tougher. His math comprehension improved and when he was re-tested at another tutoring location due to my contract ending with Mathnasium he tested and scored a "B". Also, he was in the high end of the average in the state testing in Elementary school. Thinking about bringing him back here to go over middle school math because he fell below the average for the state testing. read more

My son began attending Mathnasium twice a week for an hour per session. He has been going for about 3 weeks. In that time, his High School Algebra grades have gone from a 21 (yes a low F) to an 88 (B+). Why we waited so long to get this help I cant explain. I took my daughter here for tutoring because she had always suffered with math. I met with Doug and signed her up for a year. It was the best decision I ever made. My daughter came out of her first class with her eyes wide and smiling from ear to ear. For the first time ever she understood what they were talking about. I decided that I should let people know about my experience with Mathnasium in Eastlake so that other parents don't waste large sums of $ on a center that has potential but is run by a man who at times has very little patience. Especially for someone who is running a childrens learning center. Mathnasium, I guess has a rule, you have to do your 1/2 hour of Mathnasium work before you can work on personal homework for the last 1/2 hour. My son learned the hard way. When he was working on his personal homework 1st, Doug, the programs owner and director, told my son he had to do the Mathnasium work FIRST and then he could do his homework. When my son told him that he felt it was below his grade level and that it wasn't what he was learning in his class, the owner went and got the folder for my son and put it down on the the desk and told him he had to do this FIRST. Sounds like a power struggle to me between a 12 year old and a grown man. Then he told my son, that if he didn't want to do the work that... it was a waste of his time and that he could JUST LEAVE. So my 12 year old son left... with no one to pick him up in a very busy strip mall in Eastlake. When Doug, the owner, called me to tell me this, I was appalled that he would let my son leave 40 minutes early without any of knowledge of where he went or who was picking him up! I was 20 miles away. Thank goodness, my son had the smarts to call his grandpa to pick him up. I don't know what you think... but this didn't give me much faith in how he is running his business! We spent $600 for 20 hour sessions and I don't think he is any better off than when he started. I hate wasting money that everyone in my family helped pitch in to support my son with his math struggles. Very unfortunate. We have 4 sessions left, however, we will not be going back! read more

My daughter was really struggling with math, so when her teacher suggested tutoring we figured we would give it a try. We chose Mathnasium, and could not be more pleased with the results! In a short period of time, my daughter went from struggling with and hating math, to consistent A's on her tests and being proud of herself. I won't go so far as to say that she enjoys math now, but she is confident in her skills and doesn't stress out or complain about it anymore. She told us that Doug (the owner) as well as the other tutors at Mathnasium, are all very nice, are patient, and are great at explaining math in a way she understands. She is one of the best in her math class now, and other students have started asking her for help. She's even encouraging our older daughter to go to Mathnasium. This has been the best investment in our daughter's education! I highly recommend that you go meet Doug and talk with him, he has figured out the right formula to help these kids learn. Tried getting in touch with these people several times. Always told they were busy and would call back if anyone answered at all. Once we finally got in touch with the manager, he said he would send for our daughter's records from a previous Mathnasium she attended and would call us back. He was not friendly at all and seemed annoyed that we did not already know exactly what areas our daughter needed help in. No surprise we never heard back and just gave up. There are many other options. Disappointed as the Mathnasium in Idaho was great. read more
