This is a tourist trap and you will be paying mostly for eating near South Beach. The best thing was the host. He was really nice and did his best. The waitress was like something out of a porn movie. Maybe she thought if she spoke in a fake sexy voice and shook her body, she would get a tip in addition to the 20% gratuity that is added to the bill. She got on our nerves more than anything. When the $115 bill came, she explained that a kid's chicken quesadilla was $15 and that there was no kid menu for chicken tacos. My grand daughter tasted the food and threw up at the table. Our fish tacos had no flavor and my grandson, just made faces and said it was disgusting. The salsa was mostly water (more sauce than salsa). I'm pregnant and had a craving so I ordered dessert from an 'authentic' Mexican restaurant. The tres leches and flan were literally in a plastic container that says 'manufactured in' and 'like homemade taste' - almost like the kind from a convenience store. The churros were oily and fried very hard... and were def not homemade or even close to the pictures on yelp's menu. There were a few careless drops of hard caramel sauce that managed to make it into a plastic container, but it was unscoopable. I think it would be different if the restaurant actually made this and I didn't like the taste, but I feel like there was zero effort put into this dessert. I was a typical tourist to Miami on a stroll around South Beach, and I came across this taco joint at just the right time on a lovely April evening, so I took a seat and had three super tasty tacos to feel like I had a proper Miami Beach experience. The seating is outside-only, but you can see through their windows that they have fun decor going on. I wanted to explore their taco menu with a sampler, but they told me they would only serve three of the same kind of taco. I requested no onions on my Carnitas tacos and they neglected that request. There were a few salsa options and my server apparently took one look at me and knew she needed to effusively assure me that the mild salsa is NOT TOO SPICY. I did indeed get the tame-enough-for-white-Minnesotan mild salsa and it wasn't spicy and it was actually delicious. That food was a little pricey, though probably on par for the area, but it did taste great so if you want some yummy tacos at a sidewalk patio around here, you will not regret trying this place. read more

Super-expensive tourist trap, sitting next to one of the busiest and filthiest avenues on the beach, you'll sit next to the road and eat your food while getting blasted by exhaust fumes. 16$ margaritas with barely any tequila in them. Expensive tacos that are nothing special, fish had a non-fresh taste, carnitas flavors didn't mesh well together. Guacamole was not worth 10$ and portion was tiny. To top it all off, 20% forced tip -semi hidden- on the bill plus a 18% suggested "additional tip" that's going to mislead a lot of folks into thinking it's the main tip. Waiter was either stoned or utterly bored with existence, looked like he should still be at school with his head down a fucking toilet. Never coming back. In a city of expensive food and big plates, Matilda's is an oasis. Never expected to find such a good Mexican food on Miami Beach. I loved almost everything about this taco bar: location, food quality, prices, service. We ordered barbacoa burrito, shrimp tacos and carnitas quesadilla and everything tasted just yummy. Michelada also was super good. Service wasn't very fast, but was very friendly. The staff added a service charge of 6$ and he didn't ley me customize the tip ,he put it straight on the bill without my permission that end up 40$ for 6 tiny tacos and 2 soft drink and left hungry . I've the the pleasure of dining here with a family member and we loved the ambiance and the menu from other reviewers here at yelp. HOWEVER, it became clear the menu was not what it once was. We were REQUIRED to order 3 tacos minimum for $18, which we got 2 of and we got an app for 12$. The bill was $62 BUT the payment DID NOT tell you it added 22% gratuity soon mistakenly added 7% on top of that. Learn from me and read your bill on South Beach.
