Oh the flavors. So much flavor. Really enjoyed this place. We wanted to try something new so we tried these recommended things (don't know what to call them). They had a crispy shell with runny yogurt that was somehow spicy and refreshing. It was odd but we got a kick out of trying it. I got the chicken kolhapuri and it was phenomenal. Leftovers were even better. Was so happy to have papadam at the table since it's my favorite. Would recommend this place!

The food was deliciously flavorful, the service was attentive without being overbearing, and the decor is unmatched. It was my first time here and will definitely be back! My only criticism is that what I ordered (chicken & olive samosas) are no longer available but weren't crossed out on the menu or anything, so they just brought me the regular chicken samosas (that have green peas in them, which I despise). When brought to their attention, they did explain and attempt to make it right by substituting for something else, but still would have been nice to know up front.

Food was outstanding! Had to wait a little bit to get it but was worth the wait. Prices are reasonable as well! Will be back!

I've been waiting for spicy, flavorful, Indian and this was it. This is hands down some of the best Indian I have had! We were given Matkabar as a referral and I'm so so glad we were told about it. The chicken 65 is amazing, the chicken tikka masala had some onion and peppers but it works. The rice, naan, all of it is perfect. I enjoyed the spicy-level, it still had flavor but got me slightly to have some eye sweat. My friends enjoyed their biryani and were glad to have leftovers. The five of us left with full bellies but totally ready to come back. Lastly, it is decorated nicely and has a great vibe to it. Highly recommend!

My dinner was excellent! I ordered a lamb dish and it was incredibly flavorful. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful as well as the table settings. The service is very nice as well. If I stayed in Alabama longer I would return again!

I've only been in Montgomery for a couple of weeks, so I haven't tried EVERYTHING there is to offer .. but out of all the food I have tried so far, this was hands down the best! The restaurant shares a quiet parking lot with an Indian Grocery, and the interior is beautifully decorated. I came for lunch with my husband and 12 month old on a Tuesday. There was only one other table and a couple of people grabbing to go orders the whole time we were there. We were greeted and seated right away and handed an iPad for the menu. While we looked over the options we were brought out something that I think is called poppadum, or Indian crackers, with a trio of condiments - Indian pickles, mint chutney, and tamarind. My 12 month old loved the crackers. We ordered the samosas to start. They were fresh, the pastry was perfectly flaky, and the potatoes and peas were fluffy with the right amount of spice. I ate mine with the tamarind and mint. We're vegetarians, so it was nice to see a full vegetarian section on the menu. I pretty much always order the same thing at an Indian restaurant (what can I say I know what I like), so it was paneer tikka masala (level 5 out of 10 spicy) and Kashmiri naan for me. My husband ordered the Kaju paneer (level 6 spicy). I'm glad I didn't go any higher than a 5, because it packed a nice lunch, but I think anymore would have had me sweating. My husband ate all of his rice and kaju paneer and shared my naan, but the portions are big enough that I had enough leftovers for another full meal. And the price is overall pretty reasonable for the quality and amount of food. I think we paid about $50 before tipping.

We have been wanting to try Matkabar for a few weeks now, and finally made the trip from Greenville. The restaurant is absolutely GORGEOUS! Gorgeous to the point, I want a photo shoot here! The most beautiful pillows and wall murals and lamp shades! Service was also amazing. Our waitress ( Pitha?) was really attentive and helped us make decisions on the menu. We ordered a few new things to us off of the street food menu, and some old favorites of veg pakoras and samosas. The sauces were yummy, and the apps were delectable. Our mains of Tikka Masala were good, but I should have gone higher in spice level, as it was slightly bland in spice for me. But overall a fantastic meal! Will definitely be back!

Upon the recommendation of some locals we ventured out of the city to this Indian restaurant. Overall it was just okay. Not the best Indian food I've had and the service was a bit lackluster. We ordered a ton of food to share and everything was just okay. The ambiance is fun but the food lacked the pizazz one would expect, flavors were a bit muted overall.

Chicken Tikka Masala - OO and Garlic Green Chili Naan

The taste of the food was really good. I had the Chicken Tiki Masala and Garlic Green Chili Naan. The servers were friendly and polite. However, service was slow and I watched several people wait a long time for their to go orders or pickups. The restaurant decor was nice and the everything very clean. I would try again if back in the area.

Only one time have I had any issues, where the provided rice tasted and smelled 'sour,' upon arrival home from a takeout order. Otherwise, food has been up to standard and very good. Service is typically good, although there was a time when I walked in and the gentleman at the counter did not seem to be able to speak English. The restaurant is brightly lit inside, definitely giving it more of a lunch vibe than a dinner one. The sheltered patio space on the wing of the building is darker. India Palace would benefit greatly from reducing prices 2-3 dollars on their main course items. As a college student living in a college town where cheap alternatives to fine dining are everywhere, there has been many a time where I have opted to not choose India Palace over somewhere else, due to the relative high prices of common items. The same way I wouldn't pay $18 for General Tso's Chicken is why I hesitate to choose an $18 Chicken Tikka Masala, or even the $20 Chicken Tandoori, with chicken being a cheap commodity in the Auburn-Opelika area. Prices are the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars. The restaurant feels more like a pricy lunch spot that you eat at and leave rather than go out for enjoy the time you spend there. Other than that, great restaurant when you're looking for something different and well-made.

But definitely come as you are. The interior was gorgeous, I wish I took photos but wanted to be respectful of others who were dining and eating! It did take us a bit of time to wait for our food, but the fresh and delicious food definitely is worth the wait- more on the $$ side. Food = divine. This is coming from a Houston girl who's surrounded by incredible Indian/South Asian cuisine. You're given the option of a 1-5 spice level for most of their dishes- we went with 3 and it was perfect! Enough heat to still be able to enjoy the great flavors, and enough heat to give us a bit of a kick- definitely a comfortable spice level (but my boyfriend and I have a pretty good spice tolerance). Loved their mango lassi- a mango + yogurt drink- I can't ever pass up an opportunity to get a mango lassi. Their garlic naan was thin, buttery/garlicky, and absolutely divine. Definitely can't get better than eating fresh naan, they definitely came out fresh and piping hot, and very soft/strechy, you have to get the garlic naan- one serving is 5 pieces. Their chicken tikka masala was so delicious- I know, it's a more common dish to get. It was so incredibly creamy and nutty, definitely one of the better chicken tikka masala's I've had. If you're new to Indian/South Asian cuisine, definitely a must! Kind of like a butter chicken if you're slowly branching out. I'm a lover of paneer, their Saag Paneer was pretty good- paneer itself felt a bit flat but it was still delicious. Their lamb shank was pretty good- it was a bit more on the dry end, still moist, but a bit dry. Typically like a lamb shank that falls off the bone, but the flavors were still there, and loved the sauce and definitely loved the spinach that it came with. Chicken samosa's were okay! Mostly filled with welll/seasoned shredded chicken, nothing super special but it was still delish- will likely try to veg samosa's next time. It was super crispy! Service was overall pretty good- a bit slow in getting our food out, longer than an average wait I feel, but I noticed that there was also a large gathering around when we went so it likely took some time but no biggie. Our waitress was nice! Staff all seemed very friendly. Food came out all piping hot and fresh so definitely no complaints. Will absolutely be back!
