I can't recommend Jhoomar Indian Cuisine enough, their food is incredible. The ambiance is also so very nice- similar to other reviews, definitely has a fine dining/banquet feel! But definitely come as you are. The interior was gorgeous, I wish I took photos but wanted to be respectful of others who were dining and eating! It did take us a bit of time to wait for our food, but the fresh and delicious food definitely is worth the wait- more on the $$ side. Food = divine. This is coming from a Houston girl who's surrounded by incredible Indian/South Asian cuisine. You're given the option of a 1-5 spice level for most of their dishes- we went with 3 and it was perfect! Enough heat to still be able to enjoy the great flavors, and enough heat to give us a bit of a kick- definitely a comfortable spice level (but my boyfriend and I have a pretty good spice tolerance). Loved their mango lassi- a mango + yogurt drink- I can't ever pass up an opportunity to get a mango lassi. Their garlic naan was thin, buttery/garlicky, and absolutely divine. Definitely can't get better than eating fresh naan, they definitely came out fresh and piping hot, and very soft/strechy, you have to get the garlic naan- one serving is 5 pieces. Their chicken tikka masala was so delicious- I know, it's a more common dish to get. It was so incredibly creamy and nutty, definitely one of the better chicken tikka masala's I've had. If you're new to Indian/South Asian cuisine, definitely a must! Kind of like a butter chicken if you're slowly branching out. I'm a lover of paneer, their Saag Paneer was pretty good- paneer itself felt a bit flat but it was still delicious. Their lamb shank was pretty good- it was a bit more on the dry end, still moist, but a bit dry. Typically like a lamb shank that falls off the bone, but the flavors were still there, and loved the sauce and definitely loved the spinach that it came with. Chicken samosa's were okay! Mostly filled with welll/seasoned shredded chicken, nothing super special but it was still delish- will likely try to veg samosa's next time. It was super crispy! Service was overall pretty good- a bit slow in getting our food out, longer than an average wait I feel, but I noticed that there was also a large gathering around when we went so it likely took some time but no biggie. Our waitress was nice! Staff all seemed very friendly. Food came out all piping hot and fresh so definitely no complaints. Will absolutely be back! read more

This place is amazing. We were in town visiting and came for lunch. We were the only people here surprisingly because, wow. The service from Alexis was excellent. The food took a minute but it's all made to order fresh and delicious. My husband got the tikka masala and I got the coconut curry with butter naan and beet salad that comes with the lunch. First, the good. I did an online order, and the staff were all so friendly as I waited and apologetic when it took longer than expected. Its a beautiful restaurant, and had really lovely music playing. Now, the not so good. I am pretty disappointed in our meals tonight. We all got butter chicken. It appears they use thigh meat and not breast, so it was pretty fatty. It wasn't as flavorful as I have come to expect butter chicken to be. The naan was really under done. It wasn't busy inside but I think there were quite a few to-go orders like mine. Absolutely amazing food. I live in Los Angeles and am visit my in-laws in Columbus. I eat Indian food 3-4 times a month at home and have eaten Indian food in London on a number of occasions. Since my mother in law loves to eat Indian food with me when she visits L.A., my wife suggested that I take her to eat somewhere in Columbus and walk her through the menu. While I was fairly skeptical, the food was extremely good. Not just extremely good for Columbus, but really good Indian food compared to all Indian food I have eaten (including London which has some of the best in the world outside of India). For appetizers we had the cauliflower, samosa and fried okra. All were good with the chutneys served with the samosa being very good. For mains, We ordered lamb biryani, chicken tikka masala, paalak paneer and cheese haryali kofta (but with korma sauce). All were outstanding. The lamb was very tender in the biryani and the tikka masala sauce and korma sauce were both great (one of the better kormas I have had). The naan was also good, though I do like my naan a little thicker and fluffier. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. read more

It's more like a 3 1/2 rounded up to four. The space is beautiful and inviting. Our server was great and answered any questions we had about the menu. The areas that are lacking are: too expensive for what you get and the kitchen was slow. My group of 5 came in a Saturday for lunch. I was taken aback that they didn't have a lunch menu so it was more than I planned to spend for lunch. Most of the entrees were $20 and up. We ordered pretty quickly and didn't get our mains for another 35 mins or so, our small plates came out sooner. Overall, I enjoyed everything I ate. First, this restaurant is beautiful - the wallpaper, the tables, the plates. But most important, the food is delicious. I had Chicken Tikka, and it was a large bowl of generous chicken chunks in a tasty, spicy sauce. You can choose your spice level (1 to 5); I chose 3 and it definitely had me drinking water between bites, but I love spice so it was fine. My son, unfortunately, order a dish that had 2 at its lowest level, and he (who is not a spice lover), couldn't eat it at all. He was allowed to order another entree at the zero spice level, which he liked very much. I have been wanting to try this place so I took myself for a birthday lunch. They have a lunch menu and I ordered from the pick your own sauce and protein section of the menu. I had saag paneer mild spice level. It was good and a good value for the price. It comes with naan, rice and soup/salad. The restaurant itself was very nice looking. The service however was a bit lacking. There was only one server for the tables who was also at the host stand and doing take out orders. There did appear to be a bartender at the bar but he was on his phone most of the time. There was one other what appeared to be server who seemed to just have one table but I later overheard him tell that table he was one of the 2 owners. He stood talking to that one table the entire time I was there and did not speak to any other table which might be understandable if they were regulars or old friends but as I could hear their entire conversation, they were just passing through town and happened to stop in. My waiter did a decent job was pulled in to many directions because as soon as he would try to clear a table either someone would walk in or the phone would ring or one of the tables needed something. The table beside me ended up walking up to the bar to ask for a drink menu because there was neither an alcohol menu or regular drink menu given to any of the tables which I find odd for a restaurant that does so much advertising around the bar. I got take out and did not dine in, so maybe that's why the food quality was so poor. The food did not taste fresh and tasted like it had been prepared earlier in the day. The chicken in the chicken tikka masala was mushy. Not tender, mushy. Tikka masala sauce was decent. The crispy okra was not crispy. It was all soggy and chewy. Servers were quite knowledgeable and willing to communicate if you ask (so don't be afraid to ask questions if you're not sure about something on the menu). So, I had a weird experience but don't want to take that out on the restaurant, who I don't think is entirely to blame. Long story short: someone affiliated with the restaurant was using the only van accessible spot as a general purpose "VIP" parking area, and when a friend who needed the spot asked about it, it was brushed off and suggested that it was okay for them to park there without an offer to move. We eventually got into the restaurant, with some additional positioning, but my friend was still fuming and refused to order. To keep the peace, I offered to leave and just pay for my drink. But when we went to leave the FOH staff freaked out, fetched the owner, who apologized profusely and talked us back to our seats. The food was good, as was the presentation -- you definitely get some "wow" factor when something is put in front of you. Besides the initial awkwardness, we got the sense that they were afraid of a negative review and checked in with us seemingly every 90 seconds. This wasn't entirely a bad thing, but it lent a sort of anxious energy to the evening, and we never totally relaxed. I still give this place 5 stars, not because it was a 5 star experience, but because the food and presentation are valuable and I want local places capable of this originality and quality. read more
