A Russian market and language school all in one :) (well not formally a school, but the employees have always been helpful in putting my DuoLingo lessons to real world usage.) For my most recent stop to grab dessert after dinner nearby, to other times when I have enjoyed savory dishes in their adjacent sit down restaurant, Matryoshka was one of Sunny Isles' first delis stocking a wide variety of authentic food from Russia, Belarus, and various other European countries. They also have Mediterranean dishes for sale. It is mostly a grocery store, along with a well stocked (and clearly labeled) buffet of entrees and desserts. Since it is in the corner of a shopping plaza, they have outside tables along both sides if you want to enjoy your bites with a view of the Sunny Isles skyline. I have been living in Miami for 6 years and come to this store for food. The food is 100% delicious, the staff is polite. There is a problem: the sellers systematically do not put all your purchases in. You paid, but half of the goods remain in the store, even if you are on the side where the cigarette stand is. I complained twice, they always say, "Sorry, it was an accident." Today is my 6 time when half of the expensive products were left in the store again. They don't respond to complaints here, because they have traffic and they don't care. read more

It is a good size market. The place was very clean and it had some interesting things to try. I was not there very long. I was impressed with the buffet displayed. It was a lot of food. I would have tried a lot of it if I did not have plans. The area where they have desserts had some amazing looking chocolate desserts. I am coming back for them. The market is in a shopping center. The deli here is out of this world! So many items for sale, including cabbage rolls/stuffed cabbage ($9.99 a pound), different cheeses, and different kinds of kielbasa. My favorite is the long skinny dark colored smoked kielbasa sticks. The aisles within the store also have many different European items, as well as a cold section with meets and cheeses to grab for yourself. Staff here are friendly. English is a challenge with some, but still they understand what you need. read more

Nice and clean store with a great selection of Eastern European/Russian groceries and alcoholic beverages. Their deli section is pretty impressive as well (I've heard that it used to be a self served station but they had to adjust due to covid safety measures). Their prices are a bit higher than at similar stores in the area but they do have everything needed in one place. I went for the pryanik (or "Russian spice cookies") a.k.a. my latest foodie obsession. I blame Francisco V. entirely for this. So much have I raved about these cookies that I was dying to go and get more at Matryoshka where he got them from. Ended up going impromptu and was amazed at the amount of goodies I saw. It wasn't just about the sweets, although we did end up getting a few (one that I have already used FedEx for, so my friend in Tallahassee gets to try them), but I'm digressing here. Point is I've been driving everyone crazy about these cookies. Apologies to Sean M. especially, but seriously, these cookies are THAT good! That being said, if you're not familiar with Russian cuisine, you're bound to be impressed at Matryoshka. They have their own deli and hot food bar. Not to mention that they make bread and sweets in house, although there are plenty more that are imported. While the staff speaks English and will help you, it is obvious Russian is the preferred tongue. That and a lot of the products have labels in the language, so if you don't feel like Googling, I heavily suggest taking someone with you who knows Russian (just in case) if you're unfamiliar with the language. The place has a lot of variety, even things that you may not necessarily expect. I, for one, was surprised to see both duck and rabbit there and not frozen at that. The prices were economical, too. I may consider getting the rabbit there once I finally figure out what exactly I want to cook it with. I don't think, though, that I would make this a regular in my rotation of markets. The cashier we had was efficient but cold, and quite frankly, that was off-putting. My friend loves beets but never tried borsht. So, I suggested meeting to have lunch on the weekend. In this Sunny Isle shopping center, there are two Russian/Eastern European Deli. We compared two places, but this place looked clean, and the food they had was appealing. It was our first time, and We had no clue where to start. The ladies behind the counter didn't speak much English. We were observing some customers see what they were doing. The guy at the cashier spoke English, and he was very friendly. We ordered a stuffed pepper, two different beets salad, and two different kinds of soup. All food was so yummy. I had pickle soup, and it was delicious. My friend enjoyed her first borsht too! This place sells many kinds of beer and wine. You can buy it and have it with your meal. Oh, you can heat your food in the microwave by the cashier. There are tables outside the deli, and you can enjoy your meals with your beer. I definitely will go back to try more delicious food. read more

This is a great little Russian grocery store with a hot food buffet. They have a great selection on Russian delights. Candies, beer, pastas, juices and fresh homemade food selection. They also have a variety of Russian deli style meats and cheeses. Great ambiace you can do some European type grocery and sit down and enjoy an ice cold Russian beer or juice. Larry S. ate here for lunch a few weeks ago and raved, so when we were in the area over the weekend, we couldn't resist a stop. We were ravenous, so on our first pass, we headed directly to the food bar. TONS of Russian delicacies! Dumplings, fish, salads, pickled items and soups are laid out for your perusal. We loaded up and were checked out efficiently by the friendly Tatiana. It was a really pleasant day, so we opted to sit outside and enjoy the breeze with our lunch. Everything was delicious. I particular enjoyed the dilled pickled cukes and the roasted vegetables. Our hunger sated, we went back inside to browse the aisles. They offer a great selection of eastern European foods. The prices are high, and much of the packaging / instructions are in Cyrillic, so you really have to be a curious cook or an eastern European to get the value out of it. We then took a second pass at the food bar so we could take home Matryoshka's delicacies for dinner! The only two negatives for me are the styrofoam containers and the abundance of meaty items (but I understand that is par for the course with this kind of cuisine). My favourite Russian restaurant in South Florida I've been here many times and the food has always been delicious, they have a selection of Russian foods you can choose from behind the counter , including rabbit which I didn't get , but I got Kasha - buckwheat, ground chicken , ground lamb , sweet roasted duck legs, roasted eggplant, beet and mayonnaise salad , the famous Korean carrot salad , fried fish of some kind ; and fried shrimp. They also have a wonderful assortment of Russian pastries and desserts . Very good price and great atmosphere . They also have a market selling al kinds of russian products including mushrooms, smoked fish, breads , cheese , meats , juices , everything you can think of . Really fun and nice place ! read more

Matryoshka is just one many businesses on my list that that I needed to review. Though I've been coming here for months, I'm actually glad I didn't write a review beforehand. Reason being this past month they moved to a new much bigger and nicer location in the same plaza. Outside of having a bigger diversity of foodstuff from Eastern Europe and produce, the aesthetic beauty of the place has improved astronomically. I'm not going to lie, what stimulated me to shop at Matroyshka was not the food per se, but to rub shoulders with beautiful Russian women. Occasionally while in the aisles I'll ask a Russian damsel a random irrelevant "food stuff" question just so I can hear her alluring accent. Women with foreign accents are the ultimate turn on in my world, when they speak it sounds like a Classical masterpiece. Even though I guess one could say I came to Matryoshka for the wrong reasons. I feel fortunate that I came because the cooked food is really tasty, fresh and reasonably priced. Interestingly most people think Russians are meat mongers, but as evidenced by the many fruit & vegetable offerings in the cooked food section, Russians have a very diversified Paleo diet. When I come for lunch or dinner, I typically pay about $9 for a decent sized plate full of vegetable, fruits and proteins. I always top it off with one of their 100% freshly squeezed juices, my favorite being grapefruit. Customer service is excellent, if you have a question they will answer it or aid you in anyway possible with smiles! ++ the cooked food section is much bigger and organized ++ they're actually putting English signs on the cooked food and hot soups so you know what the hell you're buying ++ there are more registers = more beautiful women working the registers ++ deli, meat, and cheese sections are much bigger than at the previous location ++ they take all CC's ++ you can eat inside at the counters or outside at the tables ++ lots of Russian layered cakes and bakery items read more

The buffet was actually pretty good. I would recommend it, if you want some quick yummy Russian food without the hassle of cooking it yourself or making your mom do it. I got literally a little bit of everything. My favorites: Mushrooms in sauce (but I grabbed a few to try literally amazing but when I came back they were gone and I was super sad) Mashed potatos Backed chicken (I forgot the name but it was a round meatball looking thing) Cucumber radish salad Vinegrette Olivye- this was actually okay. Not amazing Salmon- #1 fave! My not favorites: Chicken tabaka- lacked garlic flavor and crispy skin Roasted potatoes- I would have loved to see some zharinaya kartoshka Pickled veggies Honestly most of the food was under seasoned and lacked flavor which I understand. I speak Russian and the service at their little side hole in a wall cafe reminds me of the old Soviet Union - "what the hell do you want" type of service. Yesterday we drove up at 9:33 pm - "kitchen closed", though they close at 10 pm. Today we came at 8:30 pm - "we don't have this or that or that, and move aside". OK so it's definitely a Russian restaurant buffet style / grocery store. I came down with my friend she's describing that tastes are pretty authentic. I cannot pronounce what I had but I did have a pickled fish and Violet looking soup with many vegetables and potatoes I also had the mushroom with chicken and sour cream sauce everything that was on my plate was good although I would've liked the food it to be warmer than what it really was We are in sunny Isles Beach I think that for the quality of food and the price was more than what it should have been but like I said been in sunny Isles Beach it's expected to be at the price that it is. I understand why they have a grocery store within a buffet line and there is a lot of Russian this area that continuously shop in the store they want to feel has a little part of Russia is in the United States which is perfectly well I actually enjoy the experience I thought it was marvelous to be able to see another cultures food and ways of preparing food. The taste of the foods that I had her we're good nothing tasted bad I'm sure that you have had experiences where are you gone somewhere whatever it is that you was not texting it to you therefore you were left with the option of me and behind this experience did not happen to me I enjoyed my food completely. This is was my first time coming to a Russian market!!! First thing I noticed was the amazing smell upon walking in it was a mix of savory and hearty scents mixed with a sugary deli bakery smell.... It was a quite bizarre and unique smell that somehow worked together in perfect harmony of aromas LOL I pretty much just walked around and saw that they had they had amazing rows full of jams soups dry food such as pastas huge rows of chips and crackers and a massive wall of chocolates and candy imported from Russia... In the middle of the store they had what was similar to a take by weight deli I didn't notice anything in there that I had seen before lol it was bizarre! I couldn't even put my head together to decide what could be in some of those dishes and the labels were written in Russian. Although I could've asked to simply find out as maybe there would've been something I wanted to try however none of them seemed appetizing to me. The was a hot section as well as the cold section and I stared into for a while lol In the back of the store there was the meat section and on the opposite side was the bakery. I did get some pastries although I don't recall what they were called. They were covered in sugar and they reminded me of Mexican pastries when I ate them which I was expecting a sugar donut but it was more of a dinner roll over in sugar. Lol my friend hated them I found them so so. I also bought a Russian soda which was an interesting mix between cola and club soda. Yum! I also bought some loose gunpowder green tea. Being Russian I have to love this place! I usually come here before seeing my grandma to get her essentials from the homelands! What's nice about this place it's a market restaurant bakery fusion! You can really get it all here! Great selection of hot & cold foods, deli meats and an amazing bakery! Tons of international candies and dry goods. If you've been to Europe you know the Bueno candies they have them all! My favorite is the bakery! The have huge cakes! The napoleons cake is out of this world!
