FOUND HAIR IN MY FOOD! Started off as a great experience with good customer service. Than we received the food...... We ordered a couple of things. First off we ordered chicken teriyaki as an entree which my fiance was able to pull out a long black hair from his mouth that was cooked with the chicken. That was pleasant. We also ordered Gyoza which looked appetizing. However we also found another hair. Lastly, we had 2 sushi rolls, one lion king (thankfully no issues) and a special California roll. Which thankfully had no hair but the tempura covering the roll was not cooked thoroughly. Quite honestly was the worse $60 I've ever spent on a meal. I understand a hair can slip in here and there but the odds that its on 2 things i ordered is crazy. Which i shouldnt be surprised since none of the cook staff had hair nets. If I wanted to eat hair and uncooked batter I could do that at home for free. Avoid this place at all costs!!! read more

Tried 4 different rolls here, all were good and had no complaints. Nothing over priced and during our visit was attended to quickly.

Anyone saying this is the best sushi place in Tracy has overlooked Mikasa down the street by Raley's. I took my wife and son to Matsuyama because it's in walking distance of our house. We usually go to Mikasa. I thought for sure this is a smaller cafe style place and would be less costly. We ordered almost exactly what we usually order at Mikasa. Here is the breakdown: 1. Chicken Teriyaki - Very good, just as good as Mikasa. 2. Grilled Mackerel - a little burnt, but we like it like that. 3. Shrimp/Veggie Tempura was average much like anywhere else 4. Rice was unremarkable much like anywhere else 5. Miso Soup unremarkable much like anywhere else 6. Salad was fresh 7. Chicken Tatsu was average 8. Nagiri was sub-par, tiny ball of rice under an averaged sized piece of fish 9. Rolls were tiny, about the diameter of a quarter, and not rolled very well, and not much substance other than rice.... Mikasa's are huge more like a half dollar, and expertly rolled, with large portions of stuff inside. 10. Service was ok, server got little defensive when I raised concerns over Nigiri. 11. Prices are about the same or a little more than Mikasa's, when Mikasa is clearly superior in quality, service and ambiance (Bistro style). Overall, this place is just ok compared to Mikasa. I have to mention one more time, prices are too high for a cafe style sushi place. Mikasa offers the Bistro style ambiance and service. If the prices were 20% lower, we'd make this our regular sushi spot. Instead, we'll stick with Mikasa, the price matches the service, food and ambiance. Overall price was $66 plus $10 gratuity, about the same as Mikasa. read more

I have had a lot of sushi, at a lot of deferent places, but this is by far, hands down, my new, all time favorite!!! Best in Tracy, in my opinion! Stopped in here because we were looking for a good Japanese cuisine place to eat dinner last night. We were deciding on heading to Mikasa but my wife mentioned that Matsuyama had just opened here in Tracy and we should head there. We are a family of 5 so we had to wait for the server to put together two tables but that wasn't an issue. Very friendly staff and hospitable. I'd advise to call ahead for seating if you have a large party (6 or more). I ordered the bento combination with ton katsu and teriyaki chicken. Both items were really tasty and the katsu sauce and teriyaki sauce complemented the entree perfectly. The food portions were adequate to fill your belly. Probably even more so since I did have an extra bowl of rice. I loved the dressing they used on the salad. I'm going to have to call and see what they use unless any yelper here can help out with that. I'm guessing the soup that was included in the bento combination was a miso soup. I am not a big soup person and I definitely don't have soup on a daily basis but man...either I was just really hungry or that soup was super tasty. Everything food wise that came out of the kitchen was fast. hot, and ready to eat. My family had various sushi dishes and nothing was left on their plates when we done with dinner so I am assuming that they loved their choices. All the dishes that were prepared were appealing to the eye and very delicious. My gyoza was excellent and I could just eat that with rice and be full. The only issue I had is how much little sauce they put for the gyoza and ton katsu. I am a big sauce person and I'm sure if I would of asked they would've had no problem with that. Actually it's not even that big of a deal. I wish I liked seafood so I could enjoy the sushi but there are other choices here so I can't complain. Friendly staff, good food, and decent prices. A couple of months ago when we recently moved to Tracy we tried another sushi place and were highly dissatisfied and disappointed. And last night we came to Matsuyama and let me tell you there was a huge difference in quality. The food was great and the customer service was also on point. I get take out here often. The food is always excellent and freshly made. Their tempura is light and crisp, their teriyaki chicken is very good. I've never had a problem with any meal that I've ordered from this restaurant. The people are always friendly and welcoming. The food was just average. The service was very bad, they never came back to check on us or offer refils on drinks. We also had to get up to get noticed to get our check. Hand down best sushi spot in Tracy. I've been to all of the restaurants in the area and this place has the best quality fish. Everything tastes fresh like it's supposed to. I really wanted it to be good, it is clean and very convenient. The only problem is the FISH IS NOT FRESH! I even gotten eel roll with spoiled eel. I am not sure how is it possible. It is packaged and frozen. I have tried again and got another clearly not fresh fish. I guess it is not popular enough to have a stock of fresh fish on hand. To make someone come anywhere again in my opinion, is good customer service. No matter how great the food is, if they have bad service, i won't come back. This place out of all the sushi places in Tracy (actually even beyond Tracy) that I've ever ate at, Matsuyama has the BEST customer service. The people here all greet you when you come in, have a positive attitude, etc. they have everything. Food wise, the food is great! I came here many times & every time I come, I've had a good experience. I came here with my boyfriend today. The boss took our order & was very friendly! He even gave us ice cream on the house because we were the first customers of the day. My boyfriend is leaving to the army today. I won't see him until Christmas so we decided to get lunch before he leaves & I'm very very glad we came here. He's really sad he won't be able to come here as often. I like this restaurant since it's a 3 min drive from my house and 10 min walk. There is plenty of space to park your car and the restaurant is priced fairly cheaper compared to other sushi restaurants. The quanity is perfect and the quality is good. The inside is slightly smaller but cozy. I usually end up ordering a bento box but the food doesn't really come in a bento box. Everything comes on separate plates. I like their tempura vegetables, it's crispy and the size is decent. I tried the mackerel once and the flavor was delicious but be careful because there are some bones in it. The miso soup and house salad are on point. With your bento box comes with 4 small California rolls. The sashimi is slightly smaller but it tasted fine. Service was friendly and fast.
