    Omakase Chirashi(chef choice)

OMAKASE CHIRASHI..... is an absolute MUST TRY! There was such a wide variety of quality sashimi pieces included that it was beyond what I expected. The dish presentation was so on-point! I personally think Matsuri has the best Chirashi on Oahu (when weighing the quality and quantity to price) . If you order a couple other small dishes/sushi items along with the chirashi, it is enough to feed two people. The ambiance of the spot is nice and cozy. There aren't too many seats, so going before prime dinner time is recommended. Parking is right in front but limited.

This is a tiny hidden gem! Great sushi & sashimi! Happy Hour till 6:30pm

Finally we returned to one of our favorite sushi places! I spoke to owner Julie on their new phone number 808-745-5858. You can also Text your Take Out Order after reviewing their website. MatsuriHawaii.com They have a New Online Menu! Sadly, they no longer have Happy Hour Menu, but everything was still exceptional quality! Owner / Executive Chef Yoshi always impresses us! He has many years of experience and his creativity and love shows through in his food. We were so happy to see Julie and Yoshi as we picked up our food order. It was Saturday night and they were open for dine-in with limited social distancing tables. Reservations are suggested. We ordered Ikura and Salmon Nigiri, 1 Large Hamachi Kama, 2 Butterfish Misoyaki, 1 Thunder Roll and 1 Kotobuki Roll. The Ikura and Salmon nigiri was super fresh and tasty! My Dad loved the Large Hamachi Kama! He said it was really good and wants to order again. Reuben and I enjoyed our Butterfish Misoyaki - WOW! I have to admit, this is in the Top 3 Best Butterfishes I've ever tried! It all reminds me of when we visited Japan. The Thunder Dynamite Roll was a nice, crunchy shrimp tempura with seared spicy tuna and dynamite sauce. The Kotobuki Roll was seared Ahi (tuna), Ika (squid), and shrimp tempura topped with thinly sliced jalapeños and dynamite sauce. Everything was AMAZING and we look forward to the next time! Mahalo ~

This was an exceptional dining experience, all around winning location, service and sushi. A fantastic date night in a perfect setting. We started with one of my favorites; oyster shooters. They were amazing, I'll take an entire dozen next visit. My husband had a baked lobster roll which he said was out of this world. They were kind to exchange his chop sticks so he would not contaminate our sashimi with shellfish since I am allergic. We ordered the 5 kinds sashimi, chef's choice. King salmon was fresh and delicious. The ahi blue fin was melt in your mouth perfection. Shima aji, was flounder (as my notes say) and I enjoyed this thinly sliced sashimi. Gen saba is high end sushi but it was my least favorite of the bunch. It is thick and meaty, very dense and has exceptional flavor. The texture is just not my personal favorite. The hamachi was out of this world, my favorite of the assortment. The small and intimate restaurant is just what I needed here. I feel like I'm home and this is my local spot. Maybe now it is! Julie our waitress, (who is also an owner and her husband is the chef) was phenomenal. I adore her! If I don't come back for the food I'll come to visit her, just kidding we have to come back here it's a gem and the sushi is top notch. Mrs. Julie's Blue sake recommendation was perfect. The other waitstaff was also attentive and I felt like the dining experience was one of the best I have had in Hawai'i.

This was my second time at Matsuri, and once again, they didn't disappoint. The atmosphere is always great, and the service is friendly and attentive! I started with the agedashi tofu, then followed with my favorite crab salad, and it was AMAZING. Super fresh, with a perfect balance of flavors and a dressing that tied it all together. If you're into crab, you have to try this one. Of course, I couldn't miss out on my all-time favorite: the crab tempura hand rolls. These are honestly the best part of the menu for me, and I could eat these every day. To end the meal, I had the tempura ice cream which is crispy and warm on the outside with creamy ice cream inside. Overall, Matsuri remains a top choice for sushi in Oahu. Highly recommend coming here!!

So good I am conflicted. This hidden gem is so good i want to keep it hidden. This is the second time I have been here now and it was not a fluke the first time. Great quality food at reasonable prices for what you get. This place is hidden in an office building on a side street so you will not know about it unless you are looking for it. Lived in Japan for 2 years and this is solid food. If you want the westernized rolls they have that too but that is not why you come here. Come for the misoyaki sea bass or the home made tofu dishes like the tofu salad. There are so many Japanese restaurants here but not many good ones. This place is so good i don't know why more people don't know about it. Try it once and you will be back. I promise.

Dinner was my first time here! Delicious. Great chef and staff, his son lei our waiter, was on the ball and took good care of us. The food was tasty and enjoyed everything we ordered. Especially the Nodoguro or Deep Throat fish! Haha that's what I call it. Go try this place out call to make a reservation.

After coming here with no expectations, I always come back because it is always up to par. The fish is great quality and honestly the omakase chirashi cannot be beat, it has everything in it that you would want to have. The cooked dishes are good, the crab is special, and the speciality rolls are always fun. I've taken multiple people from out of town here and it always is a hit. I'll be back!

We found this place while searching a sushi spot and we are so glad we did. Very authentic, fresh and everything tasted so delicious They have great service, you can make a reservation but walk-ins are welcome Loved the simple decor, clean and super cute serving dishes It truly satisfies your sushi cravings

My other half and I love trying new sushi restaurants and this place was perfect for us to spend an early Valentine's dinner with each other. We made reservations for a Saturday night and it was surprisingly not that busy! Tucked away in what seemed like a random building, we were able to find it with the help of signs. Staff were helpful in sake recommendations and attentive throughout the whole meal. For appetizers, we got the wagyu carpaccio--delicious, but for $38 I do wish it came with more than just 4 pieces (granted, it is *wagyu*), a braised kobucha, and an extra large hamachi kama! Also chose to share the Matsuri nigiri set and omakase chirashi. The sushi/sashimi was super buttery soft and fresh and worth the price in my opinion. My favorite of the night would have to be dessert since I have a huge sweet tooth. We got the sake crème brûlée and added the house-made sake ice cream as recommended. I would definitely come back just for that!

My wife and I had dinner here for the first time and we loved it. I recommend this place for the seafood. The fish quality for great. Sashimi was so soft and buttery like. I recommend the crab. It's a bit pricey tho but it is really prepared nicely and very easy to eat without any work. We also had the sashimi platter. It was so fresh and soft. We asked the waiter to deep fry the shrimp heads and it was so good eating it. Chrunchy and tasty. I would for sure come here again to treat ourselves.

Matsuri has become my favorite place for sashimi & sushi. Their omakase sashimi or nigiri always has my favorites when I'm looking to treat myself. MP but ends up around $110. I love the convenience of being able to make a reservation on Open Table and they even take text messaging 808-745-5858. Some of my favorite things to eat are the oysters, wafu steak, fish is super fresh and high quality. Just tried their deep fried baby shrimp. That was delicious. Save room for dessert. Their creme brulee is divine. Small and quaint place that feels like you are in Japan. Service is always terrific.

We ordered Seafood Paella, Mushrooms appetizer. The second time we added different menu. Seafood Paella, added Shrimp Ajillo with fresh homemade bread, Arugula beets salad. The third time ( this time ) we added another different menu. The more we come, the more we can try new menu and enjoy new tastes. Honestly El Cielo, all menu we tried even wine and draft beers, were top class, I love to nominate as the best restaurant in Hawaii. I am so glad I found the great restaurant, I was seeking for. Prices were not bad, as inflation everything costs are so expensive nowadays. Everywhere!! Their services are great too. If I live close by I would go El Cielo once or twice a week. Thank you so much. I will love to come back soon again.

Better than I expected.... Waikiki? I expected it to be expensive, touristy and overhyped. And yes,…read moreit is pricey and touristy. But the food is solidly good... I really enjoyed the octopus. Not too soft. It came with a nice chew and sat on a bed of thinly sliced potatoes. I could've eaten the whole dish by myself...No sharing next time. The egg custard was light, with a hint of bacon flavor. It was served in the shell in a high heeled shoe dish. So cute! The entrées were a bit of a different story... I ordered the pork shoulder at first and the waiter recommended it be done, medium rare. I have to say I am no longer a fan of bloody meat so I asked for it to be done medium. Honestly, it arrived and to my palate was a bit tasteless.... given that it was almost $60 I thought twice but was encouraged to send it back. The waiter was accommodating and I ordered the lamb chops instead. Two thick sliced lamb chops arrived about 15 minutes later and were a perfect medium served on a bed of potato and sweet potato. I really enjoyed this.... I like my lamb chops usually grilled, juicy and fatty. These were refined, trimmed of the fat and beautifully plated. I'd like to try the paella next time and more of the appetizers. Really good choice of fancy little cocktails also. I would reserve the back room for sure next time. That room has high ceilings and feels elevated. The front room where we sat was OK. I'd also opt for the outside seating area on a breezy evening... Otherwise it can be rather humid in the summer. Overall, excellent service and delicious food offerings. A bit pricey to be expected given the area.

I mentioned that it was just a general question and i wasn't coming that night. They informed me that it's validated for two hours and it's first come first serve. After the 2 hours its $14 an hour. Getting into the valet area was stressful enough as there was a car parked right before you turn and pedestrians that walk back and forth from their main driveway entrance. I also had to wait for valet for a bit too as there was 2 other cars in front of me and probably only 2 valet on duty trying to move cars forward. Reservations can be made on open table, but there was really no point to doing that since it's open seating during happy hour times. We ended up just picking a table that was in the shade, and noticed they only have their menu by QR code which is kinda annoying. The server was pretty nice tho and he brought my dog some water mid way. Their happy hour runs from 2-6 and the menu is slightly less expensive. The food was kind of standard hotel type of food and nothing really stood out. Otherwise the vibes at the restaurant was nice and i do like that they allow dogs to join you. it seems like they have live music after a certain time. I was even more annoyed and stressed with the valet when i went to pick up my car. They literally just handed me my keys. My car was parked along the wall probably 20 steps away, but they could have at least taken out my car cause it was so hard to get out, but i guess it's nice they trust that i wont bang the car in front of back of me i guess even tho im a pretty terrible parker. at the time they didn't look as busy as when i first arrived, so i dont know why they couldn't have just done the bare minimum with just pulling out my car from the stall.

I on the other hand had asked for a non-alcoholic option. Unfortunately, they ran out of ginger beer, all the sparkler options, and didn't serve any soda. The bartender looked pretty irritated by that point, and didn't even provide me with a glass of water. We would've grabbed a bunch of food to compensate for taking up a seat, but by then, the bartender had already dropped the check, and we hadn't even sat there for more than 5 minutes. The most interesting part was that an older couple sat next to us, similar situation. The gentleman asked for a glass of wine, and his wife asked for a non-alcoholic beverage. Though a different bartender came back with a sparkler option for her. Needless to say, I felt pushed aside and I don't believe I'll be back to this location any time soon. We also got the fried calamari and it was perfectly golden and tender, not rubbery at all. Light, crispy coating and super snackable -- especially dipped in the sauce. But the sleeper hit? The smoked ahi with lavosh. So flavorful and fresh, with that smoky richness balanced by the crisp lavosh. It felt light but still packed with taste -- a perfect contrast to the heavier fried stuff. Honestly, everything hit. Great mix of indulgent and fresh, and I'd order this exact combo again without hesitation.

We stopped in during their happy hour from 3-5 PM, and it immediately stood out as an ideal after-work pau hana or easy date-night spot. The space is relaxed and inviting, with a calm, tucked-away feel that makes you forget you're inside a hotel. The happy hour menu is impressively priced, with starters beginning at just $6, yet everything feels thoughtfully prepared and elevated. Highlights included the toasted bread with sun-dried tomato pistou -- warm, crisp toast paired with a deeply savory, herbaceous spread that's simple but incredibly satisfying. The mini poke bowl was fresh and well-balanced, showcasing clean flavors and quality fish without being overly heavy. The fish tacos delivered exactly what you want: crispy island fish, bright flavors, and a great balance of texture. We also tried the fish and chips, featuring lightly fried island fish, hot fries, and a creamy house remoulade that tied the dish together beautifully. The standout for us was the empanadas -- flaky, crisp pastry filled with tender braised beef and potato, finished with a bold aji rojo sauce that added just the right amount of depth and gentle heat. Service was friendly and attentive without feeling rushed, and the overall vibe made it easy to relax and enjoy the experience. The cafe had a nice inviting feel that extended towards the back, the ambiance was dark and chic. The cafe was adorned with Halloween motif. We placed our orders at the counter which was towards the front section and our food were served at our table. I chose the Spinach Mushroom Goat Cheese Omelette and Lemonade for my drink. That homemade lemonade was so refreshing and delicious! Loved the delicious spinach and mushroom in my omelet. Hubby ordered a classic breakfast of Two Eggs w/ Bacon and Roasted Potatoes... wow! the bacon was crispy and yummy and just how I like my bacon cooked. He gave me 2-pieces, maybe because he saw me drooling over it LoL! but I'm telling you, Therese's Wagyu Cheeseburger on Brioche with French Fries looked mighty yummy too! Thank you, Terry, for inviting us to join you for a Sunday brunch. We had a wonderful first time dining experience here with good food and company! Review #3585

They only serve natural wines, which made everything feel really intentional and thoughtfully chosen. We had a Pinot Noir, a super funky orange wine that was honestly really cool to try, and Coenobium -- a beautiful white wine made by nuns. At one point, a bottle of red wine was opened and poured as a little salute for the room -- a simple, unexpected moment that was really wholesome. For food, we shared the venison pâté with bread and a Caprese salad -- simple, but done so well and paired perfectly with everything. It wasn't just about what we had, but how the whole experience came together. There's something really special about what they're creating there. We are already planning our next visit!

The staff is so sweet and accommodating and make excellent recommendations based on their understanding of their wines and your palate. Will definitely be back as they routinely add new wines to the menu throughout the month. The food menu is limited especially if you aren't a big meat eater but there's something for everyone. Low intervention and organic wines with such great range from light and bubbly to heavy with tons of body. Come for the wine and make friends with the staff and others around the bar. The setting is intimate so get comfy.
