TL;DR: Homemade udon noodles has a good texture but their special dipping udon is very mid. The other dishes like chicken tempura aren't too good either. 1/FOOD: We were excited for another homemade udon shop, where we could appreciate the chewy udon noodles either in hot soup or dipping form. Yonpachi offers a special dipping udon, with a rich hot pork broth. However this special wasn't all that good. The portion was small, the dipping broth was super oily, and the thinly sliced pork were all clumped together. That said, it was flavorful. I definitely recommend the dipping udon with the pork (not chicken) with mushroom. We also got the chicken tempura. It's a bit heavy and tasted like a chicken nugget. The edamame was pretty standard. 2/SERVICE: Service was OK. There was only one server when we went. As 10 other people arrived, service did get a bit slow. 3/LOCATION: Lots of free parking in the strip mall.

Came for lunch and the sets had good variety. I got the nikujiru set which is a dipping udon with a rich mushroom and pork broth. The udon was the perfect chewy texture! In addition to the udon/sauce there's seasoned rice, gobo, and pickled veg. Our sets came out extremely quickly. The staff were so friendly too! Also got the takoyaki, which didn't have the traditional soft/chewy exterior. It had a more fried shell around the batter itself. We tried their green tea and hojicha sorbet for dessert. And the texture was a bit unexpected. It had an icy consistency, which we thought maybe would've tasted better if we ordered their fruit flavors (peach or yuzu). They came in these really cute single serving disposable cups!

What a little gem! I mean, it's the kind of place only locals frequent because of the location. Super friendly greeting when we walked in. We opted for the bar since it was just the two of us. K has been here before so no surprise they knew him. I didn't know what to order so I decided on the curry rice mini udon set. We also got the torched mackeral appetizer and a pork shabu salad. Great way to start our meal. The curry with chicken was delicious and really hit the spot. The small udon was a nice compliment! Next time though, I will get a full udon set. The pitcher of Sapporo was nice and cold, just the way I like it! The whole staff was great! Looking forward to coming back! Mahalo Yonpachi!

Person was nice who took my order. Take out menu different than inside menu. It seems more expensive since ala carte and no lunch special or set menu. The udon fries was suggested by a friend but I'll pass on that since it was too salty for me. The udon and tempura was tasty but better to eat in the restaurant for better prices.

Perfect udon. Al dente texture , delicious light broth. Just want sh they had one with natto or ume and wakame. I guess the m just missing Jimbos.

After working out at the gym for nearly two hours, we cleaned up and changed into clean streetwear, then wanted to eat comforting Asian noodles or lighter lunch entrees. My husband suggested having soup noodles at a Chinese restaurant in Kapahulu's Market City. Still, McCully's Udon Yonpachi struck my fancy more because I remembered reading an article written in Honolulu Magazine's October 2025 newsletter, about their silky, slurpy yet chewy udon noodles and lighter izakaya-style dishes. Plus, we could get to Udon Yonpachi faster since it's closer to our gym than Kapahulu. When we arrived, there were several open parking spaces in the private, shared parking lot in front of the restaurant on McCully Street. Upon entering the restaurant, we were surprised to find it wasn't busy at all, and the female server welcomed us with a hearty "irrashaimase!" And motioned to us to sit anywhere in the restaurant. She quickly brought over the menus and asked if we wanted any beverages besides iced water. While she left to bring us glasses of water, more hungry diners entered, and we chuckled about getting our lunch order in quickly as the restaurant filled. Our server was friendly and offered to explain the lunch menu since this was our first visit, but we figured out what we wanted and ordered before the larger groups who had just entered the restaurant could. FOOD: -Niku Kinkorojiru Tsuke Udon Set: I was attracted to this Tsuke udon set because I enjoy eating dipping noodles. I could see from the menu photo that this set would be healthy, delicious, and generously portioned. I chose chicken as my protein source instead of pork to be added to the clear, umami-tasting beef and dashi broth, along with earthy, nutty shimeiji mushrooms, fried tofu (aburaage), and other tasty ingredients. The in-house-made, room-temperature (not icy chilled) udon sat on a bamboo mat (takesudare) within a larger bowl. Side dishes included a tossed green salad, kinpira gobo, asazuke (lighly pickled vegetables), and a scoop of mixed rice. The broth remained steaming hot even as I dipped the noodles into its bowl. $21 -Shrimp Tempura Udon Set: my husband selected this menu item as he was drawn to "tempura shrimp" or deep-fried shrimp. The battered, deep-fried large shrimp were delicate, crisp, and airy, but my husband regretted not asking to have them served separately, since the bottoms of the airy shrimp tempura, which were touching the broth, got soggy. However, the shrimp meat was tender and succulent. The clear, steaming-hot broth was clean-tasting, not overpoweringly seafood-flavored, and umami-rich, yet didn't detract from the delicate shrimp. Of course, the silky yet chewy in-house-made udon was luxurious when slurped from the bowl of hot broth. His lunch set also included a mini salad, kinpira gobo, asazuke (lightly pickled vegetables), and a scoop of mixed rice. $22.50 We were impressed with Udon Yonpachi and would love to return for their izakaya dishes and sake for dinner.

We went here for lunch on a weekday, was not super busy. Service was quick and love the vibe. Food was good. We got a lunch set that came with all those extra dishes for reasonable price and one curry udon by itself, good portion for 2 people to share for a late lunch.

Finally stopped at Udon Yonpachi for lunch and I'm pretty sure I found my new favorite curry udon on the island. I ordered the curry udon as a lunch set and it was dialed in -- the curry was the perfect consistency (not too thick, not too runny) with a bold, comforting flavor that actually hits. My wife got the Nikujiru tsuke with mushrooms and that was also super good -- rich, savory, and really satisfying. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel easy, welcoming & casual. Only heads up: the parking lot is tiny, so plan accordingly. Overall, definitely a repeat spot for me. I'll 100% be back.

Udon is the slurps... I've been wanting to give this newbie a visit though giving it some time to settle is nice so the the newness can settle with that I still feel the newness of this place and you can find them right on one of the busiest spot McCully Street can be stressful as the parking is right front of the restaurant getting out can be hard during the busy traffic time. We arrived just at opening in fact was worried about parking and arrive early to grab a stall and found it nice inside with lots of holiday decor along with some Japanese decor which felt quite cluttered giving it more of an izakaya vibe the staff is nice and friendly greeting us and getting us started but seem a little unsure with some of the items. I did get something that I normally don't see is "Spicy Niku Kinoko Jiru Tsuke Udon) ya that's it but it's spicy with beef and mushrooms and tsuke is to dip so my noodles was plain and the sauce had all the goodies in them along with the spicy seasoning right on top...mixing mix mix and dip it was a nice chewy bite like sanuki udon a thick and mochi texture bite as dipping just one noodle at a time was a sufficient bite. Kitchen is fast and efficient and the staff was nice and kept our water coming as this cozy spot was nice and I do love udon so you know I will be back. Thank you!

Goodbye to 2025, this will probably be my last review unless I try something new tomorrow. I don't see any place for reservations so got here before 11am and stood in line like the old fashioned way. Parking is limited and shared between Territorial Savings and another Japanese takeout next door. It seems like dinner time maybe more ideal for parking since Territorial Savings is closed. I got the dipping in Udon with pork/mushroom flavor since that's what this place is known for. I kind of wish it was in soup instead of dipping. Flavor was good though. It was a set lunch with some rice. Not sure why we need more starch when Udon is a starch. But I did like the Gobo, salad, and some Ume flavored pickled veggies. Excellent service and lively vibe. I hope to return and try their regular Udon.

Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... Located on the busy main street of McCully, one can't help but notice this new restaurant that used to be an izakaya. Udon Yonpachi has about five parking stalls right in front. After hours, feel free to park in the stalls that belong to the bank., We arrived a little before the 5pm dinner hours, so we beat the rush. We didn't have a reservation on a Tuesday evening. Service was efficient, polite, and attentive. Our water glasses were filled several times without needing to ask. I ordered the Curry Udon... it was perfect! The meat was thinly sliced, the noodles were chewy, and the curry wasn't spicy, but very flavorful! I would go back again! This cozy place was bright, clean, and nicely decorated!

Thanks auntie Nadine .C for recommending this restaurant located corner of Young St. and Mccully. Very tasty and reasonable I ordered their curry Udon set . Comes with chicken or pork Curry Udon along with a toss salad and a small bowl of rice with some Japanese radishes. Service was friendly and efficient ordered and our meals and it came out pretty quick. Next time I probably ordered their shrimp tempura udon my sister ordered it and it looked delicious. They also have a Izakaya dinner menu as well looked delicious with all kinds of sides appetizers. Will definitely be back . Support local

We attempted to make reservations, but they were completely booked until the following month. Since we didn't want to miss out, we decided to order their most popular tonkatsu meal to go instead. When we arrived, there were already a lot of people waiting outside. I went in to check on our order, and they let me know it would be another 10-15 minutes. Since it was a hot day, we wandered over to the crystal-themed shop next door while we waited. It had lots of interesting items to browse, although we ended up leaving empty handed. About 15 minutes later our order was ready, and we Ubered back to our hotel, which only took a few minutes. When we opened everything up, the portion felt a bit small for the price. The tonkatsu itself was tender, but for us it didn't quite live up to all the hype. I did appreciate that you can choose clam soup instead of the traditional miso soup, and there are different rice options as well, which is a nice touch. Overall, it was a good meal, but not one that completely wowed us given the price. It's possible the experience would have been different dining in, but with the long waitlist and the hot weather, takeout was the better choice for us.

Not only that, but I have to bring my significant other along to share in the deliciousness! I don't know how I'm just now talking about Marugame Udon. When I first came here, my friend and I decided to give it a try because we saw the longest line and wanted to see what all the hype was about. There was a couple in front of us who said they come here every time they visit Hawaiʻi and that it's a must-do stop on every trip. When you walk in, it's a small place. You can watch a team member washing the noodles and portioning them into bowls right in front of you. Then you choose your bowl size, small or large, and select your broth. After that, you get to choose from a variety of fried items and other à la carte options displayed on a warmer. Seating can be limited because of how busy this place gets. You line up to get your food, pay for it, grab your condiments, utensils, and a cup of water, then find a seat and enjoy. I've already been here twice, and after writing about my experience, I need to make a third visit happen very soon! There are not enough days off in a week to enjoy all of the amazing food on this island, but I'm going to do my best to experience as many places as I can. This place is totally worth the 45-minute commute from Wahiawa.
