That was my mistake. I ended up actually hiring him later to repair a different chimney at my house. He gave me a quote for $3500 to repoint it which was less than other quotes and I again thought he seemed responsible. When they started the job, they removed the entire top and it was at that point that they said I needed a new flu. They said the original was crooked (slanted inside - even though it was actually straight on the top above the chimney) and smoke was escaping creating the crumbling brick. He quoted me $9000 and told me it had to be done or the repointing couldn't happen. I was trapped because they had now dismantled the top but he assured me it would all be fixed. They ended up repointing only 90% of the chimney because he claimed the bricks couldn't be repaired in some spots which was never disclosed at the beginning. They put the new flu in and it is now completely crooked outside AND inside and worse than the original. It looks like it is going to fall off. He claimed that's the way it was and couldn't be helped. His crew, which consisted of a number of young kids also left garbage and cement piles all over my yard and debris on the roof. So I paid for something that appears to now be in worse condition than before he started and while he assured me it was now fully functional and he would give me a warranty if I paid him I have yet to see that and he is now not responding to my texts.

He had done other minor plumbing projects for us with which we were happy but this one did not work out as well. It became clear he did not have experience with this type of system and initially did not install the pipes to,the boiler correctly which became apparent after we finally consulted a " senior" plumber who advised him how to redo the piping. After the installation was correct 1/3 of the radiators in the house were not working which had been functional with the old boiler. He was unable to figure out why so we had to hire another company at several thousand dollar cost and it turned out that Andrew had not properly skimmed the oil out of the boiler used to attach some of the pipes which spread throughout the system and this oil clogged radiator steam traps which made the radiators nonfunctional. This added several thousand dollars extra cost and he did not respond to our request to discuss the findings of the senior plumber. He told us he has been in independent business for 5 years but clearly has not encountered all the problems one will find in old houses around this area and did not have the knowledge for this sort of job.

The service call went smoothly, two plumbers/technicians did get to the root of the problem and a new electronic board needed to be ordered. I was immediately charged $320 for a service call that lasted about an hour. Several days later two plumbers/technicians returned with the new electronic boards and some other items that needed to be replaced. I was presented with a bill/estimate for $2,100 with no itemization and when asked I was told their customers like things to be "kept simple." In this way they can supply as many technicians as needed without worrying about costs... Logic does not add up. So, they are competent and have fixed my problem, but I have issue with their honesty. You can make your own decision but, be sure to get a few estimates for your job.
