I had an issue with my toilet. I had a new floor put in. the guy who did my floor did a great job, but he wasn't a plumber and my toilet was not attached to the floor right. I called McGough Plumbing in Lynn. The were right on time and finished the job in about 20 minutes. One of the workers overheard us talking about how my outside hose had been turned off by another worker. Before they left, they went in the basement and turned it on for me and even tightened it, because it was loose and leaking. They didn't even charge me! They were very inexpensive for the job. Coming out of 'yelp retirement' again to give thumbs up to Bob and his mate, from McGough's. The old (out of warranty) boiler burst at 7pm, I managed to turn off the gas and water and do some flood damage control. I called McGough's at 9 am on Christmas Eve (!), and Kelly at the office had Bob come around to quote. $1,100 for a new 50 gallon gas-fired water heater INSTALLED. Came back 30 mins with a new boiler, and by noon, all done. Great service, 5 stars. read more

Hello there, If you have a plumbing problem, save yourself money and headaches, and go elsewhere. I don't know whether I will be able to upload photos of my basement that show the aftermath of McGough plumbing's work. The work is not up to code and I must have it redone. Yes, you read correctly: not up to code! And this was a $1000 job. I was sold when I spoke to the owner who assured me he can get his guys the next day to fix a problem in my basement--a broken cast iron pipe that flooded my basement. He agreed to send his men the next day which was a Saturday, and on top of that, he knocked $200 off the original quoted price. I was grateful, and appreciative. Now I realize that I was cheated because I am about to pay another $1000 to fix what they did! Do not waste your money and do not give them your business. If I am unable to post the photos here, feel free to contact me and I will share them with you. What you'll see is a PVC pipe protruding from the concrete floor, which is damp. It is damp because they did not seal the work properly. Based on the work they performed in my basement, these guys are not professionals, and I regret giving them my business. I always hire locally because I like to encourage small and local business, but I regret giving McGough my business. Shame on you McGough! read more

I had a very distasteful experience with Paul McGough recently that prompted me to come here and post this review. Two of his employees recently installed a washing machine in my basement. They successfully installed the appliance but noted an overflow drainage issue that may or may not be a problem - only time would tell. They told me that if there was a problem, they would return to look at it for free. Unfortunately, two weeks later the drain overflowed quite a bit and left a large amount of water on my floor. I called and Paul McGough reiterated that he would send someone out to look at it for free. Paul's men came out and could not replicate the problem, thus could not fix it. The men then became awkward and informed me that Paul wanted to charge me $85 for the visit. Baffled, I reminded them of our verbal agreement for a free service call if there was an issue with installation. I had also just confirmed with Paul himself the day before they came that the visit would be free. At that point I called Paul directly and we had a very distasteful conversation. At one point Paul used a metaphor comparing a plumbing service to a hospital, and said that even if a doctor doesn't do anything you still have to pay the copay. I tried to remind him of our standing verbal agreement but he acted as if it never happened. We agreed simply to not do business with one another and he did not ultimately charge me, but the fact remains: Paul McGough is a dishonest individual who does not honor his verbal agreements nor stand behind his work. The first time they came it was b/c our hot water heater was leaking. Bob and his co-worker came and were great. As far as replacing a hot water heater goes, pricing was better than others. They were fast and helpful. Gave me some tips for flushing my heating system when I mentioned I had been trying to do that [with the help of youtube] to see if air in the line was my heating problem. Great tip b/c our system was different than the ones on the videos I had watched. Unfortunately flushing still didn't work so a few months later [now that it's cold] I just had them back. Again Bob was great: kind, helpful, shared some other maintenance tips, and the price was surprisingly low. All this and now we have heat on the second floor - yay! Recently I had a plumbing emergency at a 2 family rental property I own. I had to replace a boiler for an ederly tennant. The tennant needed the heat restored immediately due to a health condition. They got the job completed immediately. Their price was competive. They were on time and professional. Not to mention very clean. Did not have a good experience with this company. Called these guys after having a drain blockage. They sent out two ruff looking guys that didn't even acknowledge me when I approached them in the basement. Even worse was the fact that they used my wet/dry vacuum without my permission to suck up all the water that was all over the floor. I thought that was extremely unprofessional. We had a crack in our sewage pipe and we had McGough, as well as a couple of other plumbers, come out to give us an estimate. Their estimate was the lowest and they said they could fit us in the soonest of all the plumbers. They did excellent work. They were very nice and polite. We had a leaky pipe running from our upstairs sink through the walls into our downstairs. Not good. I called McGough Plumbing since we used them last year for our burst pipes over the horrendous winter. McGough Plumbing arrived on schedule, fixed the leak and went above and beyond because I asked if they could also install a faucet while they were there and they kindly obliged. Great service! Very disappointing experience and bad ethics by owner Paul McGough. Paul McGough has taken advantage of a senior VA widow who trusted his A+ rating and had him install a gas furnace, and waterless heater which he stated was available for the Gas Network Refund and that the model was an energy efficient which would help her out being on a fixed budget. After having boiler and waterless tank installed in December 2013 for $11,500.00 , Paul refused to provide proper receipt and documentation showing model number which was assured to be a model eligible for the Gas Networks Rebate. After No response from Paul and his neglect to give proper documentation in July 2014 Gas Network came to my house and photograph the Model to bypass his neglect of giving me the model number and receipt needed to process the claim. A decision was made in August stating that the Model was Invalid and did not qualify. The install and equipment totaled to $11,500.00 and now is not even an accepted model . Paul clearly had no intention of installing the proper equipment and lied to a susceptible senior VA widow ,who know has been duped of a rebate by this unethical man. Caveat Emptor !!!
