WOW. One of the best decisions my now husband and I made were to book a videographer for our wedding, and one of the ABSOLUTE best decisions was booking Matter. Videography was the most important thing to me for our wedding. I can't tell you how much research I did into different videographers, and all I could think about was Matter Video. I could not be more happy booking them. I know I'm a bit biased here, but I've seen quite of few friends' wedding videos, but nothing compares to ours (well, our teaser video, at least). Dan and Johnny shot our wedding, and they were phenomenal (incredible, amazing, funny, fun, perfect, etc.). My wife and I hosted an intimate wedding on the California coast cliffside overlooking the ocean, and let me tell you, the video came out amazing. We weren't able to have all of our friends and family there due to COVID-19 and the footage from the ceremony and edited video truly captured the emotions of the wedding day and all the highlights. This review is long overdue. Dan and his wonderful sidekick Tony were our videography team for our wedding in June. I honestly wish I could give them 10 stars, Dan is AMAZING. Our video was beautiful and fun and completely captured the all of the emotions of our wedding day. He has a beautiful contemporary style that is unlike any of the other videographers currently out there. Trust me, I looked at almost every bay area video team. So what makes Dan so special? To start out with, he's got a great mix of professionalism (he is easy to get a hold of, the quality is excellent, and he is SUPER FAST in getting you a sneak peak and the full video) and laid-back/flexible attitude. When Dan first arrived and started capturing video I immediately felt awkward and nervous. Dan's great personality had me relaxed and laughing in no time. He hadn't worked with my photographer (shout out to the amazing Jasmine Lee!) before but it didn't matter. Dan and Tony were not intrusive or demanding but still managed to get some amazing video footage in between and during all the photography. No pictures had the video crew and vice versa. Dan is also just a really great guy. I totally goofed on the second payment date and Dan was very kind and flexible. My mom had recently had an accident with a significant injury and Dan and Tony were total gentlemen about it. Dan also nerded out about all sort of sci-fi books and movies with my (now) husband and I, and it was so much fun! We had maybe 40 minutes of time after the ceremony that was just the two of us with Dan, Tony, and our two photographers and it was some of the most fun we had at the wedding. When budgeting for my wedding, my mother asked what I considered were the most important areas to account for. At the top of my list was cinematography and photography, which I consider a package deal, because IMHO without them the day didn't happen. 10,000 stars if I could to Matter Video. Dan and team are second to none. Videography was something that was extremely important to me in planning the details of our wedding - and I am SO glad that we took the recommendation of our family friend to book Matter Video ASAP. All I had to do was watch a few videos off their blog, read a few yelp reviews, and I was like, "YEP!". Dan and Johnny blew my already high expectations out of the water. I hadn't actually had the opportunity to meet Dan until day of wedding, but as soon as they walked in the door, I knew I had made the right choice. Even in a room of 12+ girls drinking champagne and talking over each other, Dan was directive but blended in, easy going and incredibly personable. As a bride on your wedding day, you're trying to manage the attention of about a million people at one time, and I was so grateful that I didn't have to worry about keeping up with them - they were complete naturals and were where they needed to be when they needed to be there. Dan and Johnny also worked flawlessly with my other vendors - especially our videographer Karey (Hazy Lane Studios - book her fast too!) since they do a ton of work together. They have an awesome rapport where they know when to get in and out of eachother's way, have the same vision for photo/film, etc. This is weird, but I wish I could be friends with them both?!? And, the cherry on top, I woke up the NEXT MORNING to a 45 second teaser video (complete with a bunch of flattering instagram tags!!). And ONE WEEK LATER I got the surprise of my life when my completed video was sent to my inbox. I've watched it only about a hundred times, and every time I find a new detail that I'm amazed at. First off, it is incredible to see how many shots and tiny tiny details they can capture in each of their films. While they spend the most time on ceremony, dances, etc. you definitely get your fill of contextual detail shots as well. They also made Jon and I just look GOOD. I don't know how, but they do it. Let me start by saying a videographer wasn't a "must have" on my wedding list, but it ended up We were lucky enough to have both Dan and Travis make the trip to Tahoe for our wedding. They were incredible. Fun, professional, creative, and results that far surpassed any expectation. If you have all your vendors meet expectations, you're very lucky; however, you should seek out vendors like Matter Video because they have the ability to make your wedding better...just by being great guys. I really hope I keep in touch with this team and have recommended them to everyone we know. It may sound ridiculous, but seeing the product of our photographers and videographers... I would have adjusted the wedding date had their been a conflict. Thanks again and please look below for more detail on why they are the best. Equipment: Matter uses top of the line equipment that will ensure you get stunning images others will miss. They have the best drone to capture angles that has every one of our guests mystified (done discretely). All cameras are set on gimbles and slide rules to give you the effects of smooth movement like out of professional movies. They use a mixture of cameras including the super sony A7s capable of shooting incredibly accurate in low light. Point being, it was a very difficult setting to shoot (storm clouds, water reflections, candle lit hall, tight spaces), but they came prepared to capture all the key moments along with the knowledge of how to get the most out of current technology. I could list off much more, but you're getting a LOT. Professionalism: Dan was extremely easy to work with heading into the wedding. They were reasonable, flexible, and needed very little (if anything) at the most hectic planning times. Rumor had it these two were running around like madmen all weekend working; however, you would have never known. They were early despite surprise snow flurries, prepared, had a strategy that they worked out with our photographers, and guided us through our day...leveraging their knowledge/experience to get the best video results. They are full of energy, calm, funny, and felt like guests I would have there anyway. Vendors and guests with which they interacted came to both my wife and me with positive stories of these two. Final surprise, they get pictures and video done fast... I've heard of long wait times, but these guys put themselves in your shoes and like pros, get you your stuff right away. Creativity: We all look at way to many options in this process. Matter stood out to me because they take unique angles, had well balanced effects (slow motion, time lapse, field vision transitions, etc), and capture personality. Prepping is so much of your day your guests don't get to see... they do an awesome job of integrating it in. I had never heard the song they picked, yet.. it fit real well with the day, our emotions, and the core of us. Matter is an expert at reading you, interpreting your love quickly, and then putting it to film. I will forget from time to time the nerves, the watered eyes, the scenery, the laughs....but in just 4 min, I revisit this video and get to re-live it all over again.
