Gainesville , VA to Bend, OR: So, I'm going to start this review by saying I was immersed in quotes from 2 nationwide, (and they hate being called that) "brokers" for two weeks prior to looking at this company. I had a first quote from a "binding" company (for 10.5k lbs) which was on the very high side, and could have gone higher, if the local movers "felt" they were doing more work than was estimated. Hmmm, not comforting at all. They could actually stop the packing process. The quote could not have gone less than originally estimated. I had a second quote that was "non-binding" that was a full $6K less for a thousand pounds less (for 9.5k lbs) that could have gone higher based on the weight at the scale pre-load and post load. Both companies are under the Sirva umbrella of companies and would be well recognized by name (but if you did a yelp review search they rate at 2.5 or less). I just had an uneasy feeling about both when they each estimated upwards (and the second company by $4k) after I questioned their pricing models. This is what really had me concerned: They don't like to be called "brokers" even though they farm out the loading, the trucking, and the unloading. Additionally, you are often loaded with other customers along the way, which could result in damage (when off and on loading at the warehouses) and other obvious concerns when multiple people/companies are looking at and handling "your stuff". The latter part of this equation is what concerned me most. I have NEVER done a coast to coast move on my own, and had zero assistance from anyone in my family, plus being from the east coast I do not innately trust others. So, two days before I needed to make a decision, I "yelped" "nationwide movers" and Matthew's Nationwide Moving popped up. Lo and behold, they had a 5 star rating from DC to Bend, OR. I'm like, "no way, that's AI", but I left an email and a voicemail and thus the journey began. I got a call from the company, got emails from the company, got a call from Matthew, the owner, and in two days he was at my place to give me a quote. Jessica is who I dealt with mostly for the communications. The moving quote was straightforward, but the packing (labor and materials was not) so I called and emailed to get a "good enough for government work" estimate for a house my size and weight. I felt comfortable enough because even if it exceeded the labor and materials it would still be less than the other estimates of the two established companies I was pondering for over two weeks. One other thing: each of the two other companies required a $200 deposit- which was no biggie in a move of this magnitude; but they required full payment prior to either the truck unloading, or the truck even actually showing up to unload. What business and what a dummy you would be to pay for something either not yet delivered or not yet received? That is not proper business protocol and something that really made me think twice. Matthew's Nationwide Moving asked for a $200 deposit to book , and nothing until after they unpacked and made sure everything was delivered as agreed upon. That's what sealed the deal for me. Fast forward to 4 weeks of prep for me and the last 7 days of packing, moving into the truck, and delivering, (we drove for 5 days with our cat George- so definitely traumatizing). Obviously they drove the same distance! I can say that it was all and more than I could ever had hoped for in a team of utmost professional and truly caring men who fulfilled my husband's dream of moving to this new place I now call home. That I know the people who packed me out, drove the load, and packed me in is and was the guarantee that sold me on this life altering journey. Matthew, Tyrone, and TJ- (and the others) you are my heroes. Thank you for helping me with this very emotional and physical transition to my new life. If there were a Nobel Prize for moving services, Matthew's Movers would have it on their mantle already--probably wrapped in a moving blanket and secured with professional-grade tape by Alex and Aden. These two moved us from DC to Oregon without so much as a dent, a ding, or even a sigh. They handled our stuff like it was priceless art. They were very careful--so careful I half expected them to tuck my couch in with a bedtime story before loading it onto the truck. The price? More than fair and fully transparent. Honestly, I would have paid extra just for the peace of mind. Excellent experience overall. Stephanie is a pleasure to work with. Matthew runs a solid, honest business. Moving team: Dominic (the driver) was awesome. Given the complexities & dynamic nature of a distance move, there will be snags and there's really no way to avoid that. It there was a pattern that was disappointing. Low on supplies, tools, tape??! Also, the initial team dropped the ball on a few occasions (didn't keep hardware to my furniture together). As a result pieces to my dining table were missing on the other end of the move. My TV was disassembled and the screws were just left out on the floor - I happened to see them and made sure they got bagged up. On the other end of the move, one guy flaked out and left Dominic and the other mover to finish the job so it took a bit longer. I cannot sing Dominic's praises enough - he drove there & back and was communicative throughout. He also made sure my car was secured well and padded in the trailer. Post move--- I received a response from the company regarding the hardware and the movers were not forthright about what happened. They claim everything was handed to me. Wtf! No one wanted to own up. Not cool. I took care if this crew and treated them with the utmost respect. I tipped them well - $40 each and Dominic got a $100+ tip. Not to mention I gave them some nice household items. Absolutely no excuse for that BS. In the end, Matthew was on another job in my general area and offered to make everything right, he (and a fellow mover) picked up the hardware, assembled the table. It all worked out. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! We contacted over a dozen companies for our local (Alexandria to Alexandria) Move from a storage locker to our home. We had a piano, and some HEAVY antiques that were irreplaceable. The team from Matthew Nationwide Movers started with our interactions with Stephanie via email, texts and phone calls. They knew what we needed, and were clearly understanding of our needs - when we said "Piano board" - they knew what we meant, and repeatedly answered all our smallest questions, clearly and concisely. Next, we made the down-payments, and everything was sent to us in a clear contract/estimate. Then the help (three, TJ's team) showed up on time, even though there was some oddities with the location of the storage locker. Then -they got right to work, even though we provided pads and shipping bands - they brought packing tape and plastic wrap. They dove right in, and watching them - it was AWESOME! They took care of it all quick and professionally - including using masks and distancing from others. We saw other mover teams at the storage lockers working without masks - but Matthew's team worked with masks the entire time! Next they handled everything professionally. At one point, a chair cracked, and they told us immediately! Ended up it was a previously repaired break that the crack ran in the woodgrain- NOT THEIR FAULT! They were still very apologetic. So look - they were being 110% honest. They felt bad. They treat your property like it was their Mom's. "They get it." You should too. They moved a piano, a crated grandfather clock, a redwood live edge coffee table, and a lot of priceless antiques. Everything was unloaded as carefully as it was loaded. The price, not the cheapest - but far better than anyone else we considered - including some "upscale" moving companies. Being local, there was no "extra hourly charge" to get to the storage location or to get to the delivery location. We have another move planned in a month or two - and yes, we will be calling them for a repeat business! In the end, we gave them each a nice tip. They obviously worked hard. I was dripping in sweat most of the time, and they were working a lot harder than I was. They got right to work and informed me of things as they came up without doing so excessively. When the move got thrown a curveball they were able to adapt on the fly. We used them this summer for our move fro the DC area to WI. They were great! They were very flexible when I kept changing the move date. Also, all the other guys will give you a highly inflated quote based on the need for a semi. They estimated a 21-foot truck, which was half what it would have costed us to use a semi, and it wasn't even near full. the movers were highly dependable and worked very hard to make the move quick and painless. the only small snafu was one of their guys had a family emergency and called in sick over the weekend. This delayed their arrival, but they still showed up and did all the moving in a very short window. very little of our stuff had any sort of damage. nothing even minor. there was one scratch they left on a hardwood floor. but the company paid us for it. The other day my husband and I hired MNM for our big move from Capitol Hill to Alexandria. I did a ton of research on moving companies and called around for quotes. Right away I really appreciated the "to-the-point" email from MNM. I filled out a quick quote on their website and very quickly received an email from Stephanie the Office Manager. She included all the information I could think of in her email. I was happy with the proposed price (which did end up changing because it took longer than proposed), it was a lot less than other quotes for the same service. On the day of our move, I got a call from Kinte and Dialo. They told me they were on their way and they ended up getting to our place a half an hour early which was greatly appreciated. Once they got there we got the truck parked and took them on a walkthrough of the house and which items needed to be packed up. They started to wrap up all big furniture items and breakable items. They had a ton of tape and equipment, we really didn't have to pre-wrap anything before they got there, they actually preferred that we didn't. The only thing that could've been better communicated was that Stephanie should've told us to have all our smaller items put into bigger boxes, it could've saved the guys' energy and our time... but Kinte and Dialo were so kind and flexible, they were never stressed or anything they were just go-with-the-flow attitudes and it was so great because on moving day my husband and I were stressed out enough... as the guys could tell... ANYWAYS - they guys kept their cool and literally turned into hulks as the carried like 7 giant boxs on their backs - it was actually insane and I have no idea how they do that. They got all the items in and it was time to head over to the new house. Unfortunately, it was rush hour so we should've factored that in when we told them to come around 12, we should've started earlier BUT it all worked out. We got to the house quickly enough and the guys quickly laid down their blue carpets and moved everything in painlessly. It was honestly so great having these two because of their personalities and work ethic. They were chatting football with my husband the whole time as the moved everything. It deff could've gone quicker if we didn't have so many random things laying around but other than that, we were so grateful for MNM and Kinte and Dialo. Between my wife's military childhood, her Navy career and my Navy career we have about 30 moves between us. Matthew's Nationwide is by far the BEST moving experience/company we've had. If Matthew's isn't on the preferred provider list for military moves, they should be. Our pack up/load out crew included Alex, TJ, Tyrone, Antonio and Junior. Most of the team was in on the delivery from Fairfax County to rural West Virginia. Throughout the process the gentlemen were personable, highly professional and very respectful to us and our belongings. My wife took delivery on her own and the guys were extremely careful with moving in furniture and fulfilling all the requests made by my wife. It should be noted that a the move in was to an almost fully furnished home so they were moving around things. The move-in also took place during a rainy day, they ensured that the house, floors and house hold goods were protected from the wet weather. They placed heavy pieces of furniture with care and reassembled everything that had to be taken apart for the move. We are about 50 percent unpacked and nothing is broken and we are amazed at the care in packing. And the cost was extremely competitive compared to other companies' quotes. I chose Matthew's Nationwide Moving to help with a local move based on the Yelp reviews. I must've caught them on an off day based on others'experience. It was very easy to book and get everything set up. On moving day, I had requested a four person crew, but at first, only two showed up. Eventually a third person came. They only charged me for those that came, which I appreciate, but it still made it an extra long day. I wanted movers primarily to help move the furniture from one house to another. The team worked 12.5 hours and yet they still left furniture at my old house. People arrived at 9 am and the truck didn't arrive at the new house until 6:45 pm. My children's furniture wasn't ready in time for bedtime, so not only did they go to bed way past their bedtimes, but they did so in our room. It took over a week for us to get our toddler to sleep in his room. Because of the time and significant expense, we decided to assemble the furniture ourselves (starting with the toddler's bed while the truck was being unloaded.) The furniture hardware was wrapped up in plastic wrap and not labeled by piece. We have not found the right hardware for two beds even after 10 days. We were also disappointed that our furniture and things were just placed places without paying attention to them. For example, the shelves for a bookshelf were not put in the same room as the bookshelf and the pieces of our modular sectional were all put in the same room, but two of the three pieces were left laying in their sides inside of with the furniture legs on the floor. Most disappointing is that not all of the furniture made it to our new home. We are having to rent a truck and finish the job ourselves. We knew we still had packing to do and boxes to move, but were surprised to find so much furniture left behind. I would have guessed that professional movers would have either communicated why some things were left behind or asked us for our preferences. In hindsight, we should've been checking behind them to make sure they did the work. My experience seems to be the exception, but I was disappointed based on what others described as their experiences. read more

I used this company for an in town move a year ago and had a good experience. I called to see if they could pack PODS for a move across country and they said sure. They did not offer moving with storage at my destination which is why I did not use their freight. They were super accommodating, arrived on time at short notice. Well, I got my PODS and the contents had severe damage. Many items were not wrapped but thrown in boxes. Antiques had parts missing, 6 inch pieces of wood scraped clean off. The upholstered headboard and bed have cuts and holes in the fabric. Lamp shades were tossed in, no packaging, wardrobe boxes were crushed in half from thinks being stacked on themI called to speak with Matthew re the damages. He told me it was my fault for not using his company across country, that I had more than anticipated in my house, that it was my problem and responsibility. He was rude, unprofessional and totally unsympathetic to my having paid over $800 to his company and having incurred severe damages. Photos included. I believe Matthew's response speaks for itself. I used Matthew's Nationwide Moving for a recent move from DC to CO. I received 5 different quotes from movers and Matthew's quote was so low that I sent it to a previous moving company we had used and asked, "Can you match this?" and they said, "No. You should go with him if he seems solid." (For context: I've moved 6 times in the past 8 years and have seen my fair share of moving companies.) I made the right decision. Matthew (the owner and company namesake) is professional, courteous, and experienced. His office manager Stephanie is responsive, helpful, and organized. They were flexible and customer-oriented: when we needed to store our items on their truck for a week while awaiting our housing to be ready, they were accommodating and understanding. We used their packing services as well. Our items were carefully packed and nothing broke. Matthew's team members Mike and TJ were awesome: they worked tirelessly to make things just right, and were always courteous. I appreciated the care they took to protect freshly-painted walls from scrapes and the expertise with which they disassembled and reassembled our furniture. They were professional, through and through. Moving is stressful. This is a company that went above and beyond for me to make a stressful situation as easy as it can be. I can't recommend them highly enough. P.S. Matthew's does not provide auto transport, so they referred me to a company that they had worked with in the past.
