We have used four different storage units at Backlick Storage over the last several years and I have to say we have been very pleased. Our first unit was a small climate controlled unit. It was well maintained and easy to get to although it was on the second floor. The next three were larger and outside. The management worked with us to have one of the units temporarily after we experienced an apartment fire and then to do it all again after our second apartment fire. I rented a unit from Storage Partners LLC at their Commercial Drive location. I chose this storage unit not because they were the cheapest but because they are a small veteran owned operation. Unfortunately I have been absolutely appalled by how they have handled themselves and their business. My husband and I placed ALL of our belongings in one of their outdoor garage style units while moving from our current house to our new house. On May 27,2018 I received a call at 4:00 pm that our storage unit was one of several units that caught on fire. I was out of town at the weekend, so could not get to the space until the following day. Storage Partners LLC provided me very little information regarding the fire. Luckily, I had a relative in the area that could go to the unit to see the damage. What was not communicated to me by Sorrage Partners LLC that everything I owned was gone. I also learned the fire started at 2:30 AM. A passerby called the fire in at 7 am and Storage Partners LLC did not call me until 4 pm that day and provided NO information regarding the severity of the fire. Why the delay in the call?? I also learned that when my relative went by the space one of their employees was smirking and making jokes about the fire. How someone could make jokes when tenants lost everything they owned is just completely repulsive to me. When my husband and I arrived the next day to see the unit. It was completely boarded up. No notice that this was happening. Which leads me to that Storage Partners has not reached out once to my husband and I to follow up, provide their apologies or give us an update of the fire investigation. I emailed them twice (to ensure everything was documented)with no response. After two weeks no response, I called and demanded a response. I did get one, but was provided with very few updates and answers on June 12. I have not heard from them since June 12. However was notified by our insurance company that there is a cause of the fire being pursued. On July, I noticed they had the audacity to charge my credit card when I have not had access to my unit since May. I am 7 mos. pregnant and they have caused my family and I a great deal of stress and shown us no common curtesy or respect. Very dissapointing. Their lack of communication around the management of this situation has been appauling and demonstrates a poorly run business. Also i want to add this is my only negative review of a business ever but I have been so frustrated with their lack of communication and common curtesy in this matter, I felt compelled to leave a review. read more

We only needed it for a month. We had no problems with them. We're from CA though so when we saw the gates shoot up, instead of slide to the side to open, we were stunned for a moment. My son thought it looked like some transformer arm shooting up or something. At first, we thought this was the only place that did it this way and wondered why they did it this way but when we were driving by other gated properties, we realized that they all do it this way. read more

We've had a very good experience here. Like many people, we've stayed there far longer than we thought we would. Almost a year now. The storage location is very convenient for us, and its been very easy getting in and out and park by our storage unit. Whenever we had a question or minor issue, the manager (Mark, I think) has always been friendly and helpful. Never any problem. I'd highly recommend 'em to anyone needed to store stuff. read more

It's a nice storage facility...reasonably clean, well-kept, nice-looking, secure, and everything works. They have a bathroom which is acceptable. The elevator and moving carts are available and they work. There are trash cans to use. There is a gate that raises and lowers when you use your code upon arrival and departure in your vehicle. They have a moving truck you can use within a few weeks of a move-in (provided you have auto insurance), auto-pay, and climate-controlled units. Would be nice to have a broom availabe for sweeeping the moving carts, which are pretty dirty. read more

I do not recommend this facility. The last few times I've been there, it has been hotter inside than out (spring-summer in NoVA). My unit is in the climate control bldg and it is almost too uncomfortable to be there. I asked about it & was told they have no control over the temp. (??!) 90% of the time the bathroom is trashed & there is no TP. The dumpster has been overflowing for the last couple of weeks. To top it off, there were bugs scurrying about on the 1st floor. I see there was some kind of compound in crevices of the door the last several weeks- I assume b/c of bugs or other critters. I'm getting my stuff out of there ASAP. read more

Clean facility with plenty of carts to help move your stuff to your unit. Very helpful staff that made the "move in" process very easy.

The best. Clean, relatively new, secure. My unit is a little smaller than advertised when I measure it. Mark, the general manager is communicative, personable, responsive, fair, interested in making happy customers, and just a nice guy. We have been customers for a year, and will be customers for a long time. read more
