No one REALLY likes the car-buying process, right? A car is a major purchase, and difficult because it is emotional - balancing the numbers with style and comfort. You want to buy something you love and not feel cheated! I am female in my mid-forties, consider myself an educated consumer, and had a wicked enjoyable car purchase experience. Car shopping is hard for a lot of people because it puts them out of their comfort zone - I'd like to share my experience to help anyone make a decision to visit Mattie Imports. My boyfriend and I just purchased a 2013 VW Turbo Bug together and the Mattie team was able to make the experience as special for both of us, as the car is for me. The bf hates buying cars, and stresses hard about it based on previous experiences elsewhere. I have good experience, both from dealers and private parties; I know what to expect in the process, and I work in sales in a different industry. I love sales. I love salespeople. I understand them, am sympathetic to the career stress, but won't hesitate to call someone on poor service. Won't hesitate. Patience is the weakest link in the sales process, because it is a process with many steps. We walked in close to closing time on a holiday weekend eve, and I was watching for the typical signs of irritation or eye-rolling at the dumb late customers trying to buy a car on a Saturday night. This was my personal test and Mattie passed with flying colors - I trusted them enough to come back. We were greeted with smiles, handshakes, introductions all around, and we were offered coffee, water, or Gatorade. Our salesman, Ryan Loura, was friendly, welcoming, and enthusiastic. I listened to various salesmen and managers work with their customers. For a salesperson to successfully work with a wide variety of customers on the level they require is a challenging thing, and I was impressed not only with Ryan Loura, our salesman, but others as well. Personally, I researched and drove and educated myself to the point where I was comfortable walking onto the lot for a first conversation. If a sales team can tell you've done some homework and know a little about what you're interested in buying, and you walk into a good dealership, they are able to give you a better sales experience overall. I feel like this is a great dealership, because we were treated respectfully and with an eye toward what we really wanted and needed in a car. This purchase was a really, really, really big deal for me, because I haven't had a vehicle in a year, and the last one I had was a pile of junk. Mattie didn't know this, but they treated our purchase as if we were customers of the week. Tom in finance was efficient, straightforward, and respectful. The price was more than fair, and I didn't even feel like we had to negotiate - Ryan Loura addressed my questions before I asked them, and provided awesome and enthusiastic follow-up. Mark Campellone provided outstanding education and follow-up direction as to the car features; he sensed I needed additional time and had more questions, and drew them out of me. That was so rare I had to write a review. It was great, professional attention and, overall, this was the best car-buying experience I have ever had. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed my experience buying my 2012 VW Jetta from Mattie Imports. I had already been to Balise VW and Scott VW in Rhode Island and had an awful experience at both. I went into Mattie, immediately someone came to see what they could help me with. I dealt mostly with Mike Stenstream who was a knowledgable, friendly, no pressure salesman. And that is even after I misspoke and had him bring the wrong car around to test drive. He didn't give me attitude, just laughed it off and grabbed the right one. And he had to wipe 5 inches of snow off of both cars due to my mistake. He let my friend sit up front with me during the test drive and was only there to answer questions and let me know what the best loop to drive was. I messed around with the radio and he explained pairing bluetooth and how everything worked. It was the first test drive where I actually felt comfortable. During the finance talk, I wasn't pressured into buying additional accessories I didn't need, I wasn't hassled about what I wanted my payment to be - we talked about the price of the car, and when it came to financing options they were super helpful. I also worked with Brian Farrington during this. They both were great guys. This all happened in February of 2012 and was by far the best experience I've ever had. I've been back for my regular scheduled maintenance and I've had no problems with the car, the service, or any aspect of buying a car. Then to top things off, I literally just got home from work and grabbed my mail. I see two envelops handwritten addressed to me. I flipped it over and saw Mattie Imports on the back of the envelop. Not only did Brian Farrington send me a card wishing me Happy Holidays but I also got a birthday card from Mike Stenstream wishing me a happy birthday, holidays, and new years. If this doesn't scream customer care, I'm not really sure what does. After getting these cards, I realized I failed to write a yelp review about Mattie Imports and got on the computer to do just that. I can say I'm pretty upset about the reviews that are up here because they don't speak to what this dealership is really all about. The first way you can tell is that they give you one line saying the dealership sucks but don't have the time to go into detail because it's a bullcrap review. They are definitely a 5 star dealership and if you need a car, go talk to Mike Stenstream and tell him Garrett M. sent you. Hopefully you guys will have the experience I've had. read more

SALES REVIEW ONLY - My wife and I drove to the dealership from 45 miles away because they had a particular CPO used Audi we wanted to look at. I called in advance to make sure it was available, and spoke with the salesperson Chris Clark. He confirmed the car was available, and said he would have it ready and out front and gave me his cell# to contact to let him know we were close. We arrived and the vehicle was ready for a test drive. Chris was no pressure, and answered our questions. We decided to move ahead with the purchase which involved a trade in. They evaluated our trade pretty quick, and came back with a offer that we knew was fair due to our own research. I believe the sales manager who did the evaluation and worked with Chris for us was Jon, who was also good to work with. (note:as with many dealers these days, the sell price of this preowned vehicle was set -and matched the internet sale price.) We decided to purchase the vehicle and the process was smooth. Tom in Finance was good to work with and was able to get us a competitive rate. We bought the car on a weekend and had to contact the insurance company we deal with on Monday to get the binder, (our choice-not Matties) and return Monday afternoon for the sticker and reg. The paperwork was ready and the car inspected/stickered, and even washed again for us. Overall a very good experience, and would travel back to them if they had another car I was interested in purchasing. Thank you! read more

Dot your I's and cross your T's. After settling on a price that included rubber mats for our new A4 Allroad we took delivery but had to sign a contract that stated Mattie Imports owed us for the mats. When we picked up our mats we found that we got the front and back but not the cargo mat. After a phone call on the issue my wife was told that the sales man would look in to it, he came back with an offer for us to buy the cargo mat at cost? After she reminded the sales man of all the statements she made on wanting the cargo mat that included groceries, the beach and THE DOG he said he would look in to it........ not hearing from them for over a month I just decided to stop in and had a very unpleasant conversation with the Sales manager who proceeded to show me how the contract for the mats was written, it seems a floor mat is not considered a cargo mat! I told him what we expected from the deal and asked him if he was going to stand by that thought pattern that we didn't specifically ask for a cargo mat. After he said he was I let him know that we were done doing business together and that I would use every option available with social media to show their business practices. read more

I love my TDI, but hate this dealership! I brought my TDI in at 70k and asked specifically about extra soot coming out of the exhaust and was assured that it was fine and that it was just what diesels did. When i came back just after 80k they told me that my DPF had failed and that the car was just out of warranty. When i read up on the issue i found out that excessive soot coming out of the exhaust is not normal and is a clear indicator that the DPF is failing. This system costs ~3K to fix and is a regular problem on these TDI's. I am extremely frustrated with VW and this dealership in particular. They were either playing dumb about the problem or are actually not knowledgeable enough to diagnose a very common problem with these cars, either way it ended up costing me in the long run. Due to this incident and their complete disregard for me as a regular customer, i will not be using them again and would not recommend them to anyone else. read more

I have purchased a car from Mattie Imports, gotten two cars serviced their regularly and had a relationship with the dealership for 6 years now. First off my buying experience was excellent. I purchased a used VW Passat wagon and got an amazing price. The car was cheap to service and reliable. I also own an Audi A4 from another dealership. I have had it serviced at Mattie and always been satisfied. The one time they did not resolve my problem fully they allowed me to bring the car in and they re-did the service for free (a $600 value as it was a break job). They always drive me home if my car will be in for more than an hour, provide it back to me clean, communicate well, and are under their estimate (and that is before I use coupons they provide). I have worked with multiple other dealers before for VWs, Hondas, Toyotas and Audis and I have to say Mattie is my favorite for the service they provide! read more

No No no! The We heard him chewing out one of his service for giving the customer his car. I was not at the desk but my hearing is great. The filth does everything to increase how much you are billed. It is also Germans fault. The rear brakes can not be changed unless a computer disables the parking brake. The engine light comes on for a huge list of things from water temp sensors to spark plug misfire. Engine problems scare people! They should be informed only if it is serious problem otherwise they should get a message that says unless you want to damage your motor... many women believe when the light comes on their motor needs to be rebuilt. My ex was terrified it would cost $10K and she would have to buy a new car! Fact is it was brakes and spark plugs what was an outrage was the 4 digit bill! My wife just leased a 2014 Jetta TDI Premium/Navigator. From our 1st email inquiry, to walking in the door to meet with Ryan [our salesman], our experience has been 5 STAR all the way. On the turn over, Ryan spent over an hour slowly and carefully guiding my wife through all the intricacy of the car, especially the NAV package. He took the time to not only set up the basics, but took care to make sure the Blue-Tooth connection for her cell phone was operating properly. I must say that I am very disappointed with all the reviews this dealership got. I shopped three states and 7 VW dealers for the best price on a new 2011 VW Jetta S. I was surprised at the LOW PRICE They have on the Internet. I called, Spoke to the Sales manager Tim Foley. Tim was very help full assured me that the price was real and never once made me feel pressured or uncomfortable with having to drive 2 hours for a my new Jetta. He was able to email me a quote in writing. I brought it to my local dealer and they told me that it would never happen. Purchased a 2011 Audi A8L from Mattie. This was certainly one of the better car buying experiences I have had. Great people to work with. I drove in from a fair distance away on Labor Day weekend and was running somewhat later than I expected. Brian and Jon as well as two other staffer stayed well past closing on a holiday weekend to go through the features of the car (very detailed demo) as well as take a test drive. I could not have been more pleased. This is an outstanding dealership that I would recommend to anyone. I just bought a VW from Mattie Imports, and will most likely be a customer for life! Colin DosDantos sold me my car and he was so knowledgeable and honest! He made the process easy and quick, the manager Rick Sullivan was honest and upfront with me and was extremely polite. The finance manager is Tom Wallentin is great and he took the time to make sure I understood what I was signing. When I come in for my services they have snacks and drinks for free!. They have a very nice waiting area which makes me feel welcome. I feel that the service I receive is always personal, top-notch, and efficient. I'd recommend Mattie Imports to everyone! read more

steer clear of this dealership, they have a reputation for purposely screing up cars to keep you coming back!!! i read all the reviews, including the ones that yelp doesn't recommend, wow, how is mattie's still in business? the service advisor is a joke, he is rude and unrpofessional, they walk around with all of their tacky tattoos and ear extenders showing, it looks like a ghetto dealership. i actually witnissed them throw out an elderly person becuase she "dared" complain about their lousy service. rude, unprofessional, unethical - that's matties. the place should be shut down by vw america. i hope it closes, its just horrible. read more

We have leased one car and purchased another from Mattie. Most recently, a 2017 VW Tiguan for our son. We worked with Derrick and John pitched in on finalizing the sale. Derrick was great. Straightforward and informed. He showed us everything we wanted to see and there was no pressure. We went back the next day and purchased the Tiguan. John worked extra hard to finalize everything and make the car available as soon as possible so our son could go off to DC. Just came across job ad for a service advisor for the horrible Mattie Imports. Ironically it comes after huge complaints against the dealership for false customer service and several complaints against the dealership. Again Volkswagen needs to revoke their license to sell the product. Their dealer principle has no idea how to run an honest dealership. A great dealership with the auto supply and choice of a larger dealer, but with a smaller feel of a family run business. Sales staff, especially Mark , and the management under Brian, make buying a car reasonable and fun. The service department is busy, the cars tend to be expensive to maintain, but they are ultimately reasonable, especially in contrast to other dealers I've dealt with. read more
